It is a happy augury that it is celebration time. The nine-day Navaratri festival is on from 8th October and concludes on 18th(the dates of Navaratri are determined according to lunar calender). All of us, honour our Mother Goddess in all her manifestations by keeping Kollu. It is a festival of worship, song and dance. Navaratri festival is flamboyant in Western India, Maharashtra and Gujarat with garba and dandiya raas. In West Bengals, it transforms to Durga Pooja. During Dassara, Mother Goddess is worshipped as Durga(who destroys all negative tendencies), Lakshmi (who bestows good virtues and fortunes) and Saraswathi (who confers wisdom and spiritual knowledge. Maha Navami is celebrated with gaiety and devotion. Our childhood days at Anavathil, Kochi, all of us go from one Brahmin home to another, to get a handful of hot hot chundal, when young girls render music/kirtanas/ragam, is a heart rendering scene. Past is always beautiful.

Welcome Col RGS.
I am also a native of Coimbatore but settle down in Bangalore for the past 44 years. When ever I hear some one is from my native place I feel happy. I know about Saibaba Colony from the days it was formed by Municipality. At that time it was very much out side the Town. My father was an original allottee of site in R.S.Puram where he had built our house in 1939. I have written about my memories of Coimbatore in my Blog:

Namaskaarams to all all fellow Tamil Brahmins,

My name is Ravi Narayan Subramaniam, son of Shri K A Subramaniam.

Born and brought up in Mumbai, I now run a business based in Dubai. My wife Pushpa Narayan and only daughter Lavanya Narayan have been here fro the past 18 years.

We hail from Kollengode in Pallakad district of Kerala. Both my parents are from Eastern Village, Kollengode. My wife (also born and brought in Mumbai) is from Ottapalam in Pallakad, Kerala.

My brother Shri. S Ananth Narayan lives in London with his wife, Shanthi and son Ashwin.

I am keen to build our family tree and trace our ancestory beyond my Great, Great Grand Father Shri Ananthanarayana Iyer (Antharnan).

Best wishes and greetings for the festival season ahead,

Ravi Narayan

welcome ravi.

just a thought, which can be applied to all tambrams. it is said that one needs 2.2 children for one's vamsam to continue (please don't ask me about the 0.2 part).

not only you, but your brother, and almost everyone i know of your generation. have almost willed the decline in numbers of our community.

i am going to start a thread, 'declining tambram numbers'. pray, if you don't mind, and if it is not an imposition, please give your input and feedback.

much appreciated.

welcome to the forum and hope you stay, participate and contribute.

thank you.
