Hi

I am Srinivasan, a resident of Tambaram. Presently employed in Ministry of Defence at Kolkata. I am very proud to be a Brahmin and I like this site dedicated exclusively for brahminism. For a Brahmin, only a Brahmin can do help and no other people will come forward in the present day circumstances. We must unite together and this is an ultimate forum for the purpose. Thanks.

Due to several compulsions we are forced to used English for posting and for majority of our day to day work even. However, I sincerely feel that expressions like 'Hi', 'Hello' etc. could be avoided and we can use Swagatam, Namaskaram, Pranam etc. This is my humble opinion. Somehow, such
Western style of addressing is not very pleasing to hear. I hope that this suggestion is taken in the right spirit. I for one, do not say Hello while receiving phone calls and greet with 'Jai Shri Ram'. There are many in US who greet with 'Radhe Krishna'. My intention is not to hurt anyone's feelings. If it has hurt, then my humble apologies. While on this Western Style, another very common thing we find is to blow candles and cut cake. In our culture, we extinguish light when someone passes away. Why cannot we avoid this blowing of candle on a birthday? I had read about this in Vaidikashri a couple of years back. One Subramania Shroutigal used to write about how we are moving away from our culture, particularly the brahmins. I had told my children to desist from that practice of blowing candles and they are following it. I try to tell those I come across. Listening to what I say is their choice but at least attempt is made. Once again I wish to clarify that I have absoultely no intention to hurt anyone's sentiments but I feel that as a brahmin we should follow what are all laid down for brahimns to follow to the maximum extent possible. If we elders set an example, the youngsters will follow and the tradition will be continued.

namastheji !
your good intention feeling is understood and will tell people.
i am celebrating our family members birthday (nakshatra ) only by doing pooja in Siva temple.my wards are celebrating their birthday on their DOB going to temple & donating to charity.my grand children celebrate both in our tradition & western style
with best wishes,
narayanan
