Introduction to Vedic Astrology

As already said, each planet is destined to give certain benefic points (bindus) and malefic points called Rekhas with reference to its mutual relation to placement in the chart from one another. Thus each planet is supposed to be benefic from the other planets in certain positions (or placement in the Rasi Chakra) . Thus we get a chart called Bhinnashtaka varga.

Each planet contributes a fixed number of points like

Sun gives 48,
Moon 49,
Mars 39,
Mercury 54
Jupiter 56
Venus 52
Saturn 39

making a total of 337.

Minimum required benefic points in various bhava are:

Lagna/ Ascendant 25
2nd house 22
3rd house 29
4th house 24
5th house 25
6th house 34
7th house 19

why this thread on the back burner now?

Now the details being provided are for some advance level and thorough scruitiny is required before they are posted here. Any mistakes here from my part will not serve the purpose what this thread is opened for. Other occupations not permit me to spare enough time for this area. That's the reason I am lagging behind.

If you see my post no 458, I have added words "benific places"in brackets. this should have added to all posts in respect of bhinnashtaka varga tables which I forgot earlier.

For creating Ashtaka Varga chart and calculating the values we may further need some other factors called Rasi Gunakar ( Rasi Multiplication factor) and Graha Gunakar (Graha multiplication factor). Rahu and Ketu are not considered while charting Ahstaka Varga.

Rasi Multiplication Factor :-

Aries : 7
Taurus : 10
Gemini : 8
Cancer : 4
Leo :10
Virgo : 5
Libra :7
Scorpio : 8
Sagitarius : 9
Capricorn : 5
Aquarius : 11
Pisces : 12

MEERUT: A devout Muslim, Haseeb Khan (62) is popular among the people as ‘acharyaji’ for his knowledge of ‘grah’ (planets) and ‘nakshatra’ (constellations) which he has acquired from Vedas, Puranas and other religious texts.

■ Traders in Muskan market have given Haseeb Khan a working space, from where he helps people in distress.Impressed by his knowledge of astrology, the traders of Muskan market in Hindudominated Budhana Gate area have provided him a free enclosure to help the people in distress. For over a decade, he has been practising in the enclosure which has photographs of Lord Krishna and Ganesha.

“All religions are beautiful and talk about the welfare of mankind. I am trying to serve humanity with the little knowledge that I have,” says Haseeb who originally belongs to Bijouli village in Meerut district.
“I suggest remedies to the people keeping in view their religion and their financial condition. I avoid suggesting expensive remedies,” he adds.
For example, he does not tell Muslims to feed the cow and asks them to distribute biryani among the poor or some other remedy which can be easily done.
Khan learnt the nuances of astrology from his father Aziz Khan.
He read books and met scholars to enhance his knowledge. “I made the first horoscope at the age of 14. I was in class 8 then,” he says.
“Besides local residents, people from Bollywood and politics also approach me. Educated Muslim families from Pakistan and other countries seek advice as they have also started showing their inclination towards astrology,” Haseeb says.
An office-bearer of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Ajay Mittal is also an admirer of the astrologer.
“It is his knowledge and dedication for astrology that has made him popular as ‘acharya’,” says Mittal.
Sitting in his single-room house in the village, Haseeb says he attended RSS ‘shakha’ for many years as the organisation’s views on discharging duties for building an evil-free society and nation impressed him.
He, however, clarifies that he never joined the RSS but admires its viewpoint on certain issues.
He also remained associated with ‘Gau raksha’ campaign till 1984.

Chandra Grahanam or lunar eclipse is a spectacular event in astronomy. In Hinduism, lunar eclipse is considered an inauspicious event and the Shastras advise to consider this as a ‘Sutak’ period when certain recompenses are advised and certain acts are prohibited. The effects of the lunar eclipse differ from eclipse to eclipse depending on the other astrological conditions surrounding the event. Also, the effects of the eclipse on different zodiac signs vary from favourable to unfavourable and from mild to intense.

In 2018, we will witness a lunar eclipse on Wednesday, 31st January. The timing of this lunar eclipse will be from 17:58:00 to 20:41:10. Notably this lunar eclipse starts during the moonrise and lasts for 02 Hours 43 Minutes and 10 Seconds.

The eclipse starts at 5.58 pm on 31st January. This is a full moon day. The Nakshatra of the day is Pushya. During the emancipation of the eclipse, the prevailing constellation will be Aslesha or at Cancer moon. Hence this lunar eclipse is expected to bring harmful results to the Cancer born natives.

During the 2018 January eclipse, the inauspicious period starts early in the morning. As per astrological conventions, sometimes the inauspicious period starts 12 hours before the eclipse. Hence the actions prohibited for the lunar eclipse must not be done during this inauspicious period.

I have a question...why is the word Vedic Astrology used?
Jyotisha is a Vedanga isnt it?

Vedanga Jyotisha is more of astronomy..Calenderics..mathematical and used mainly to determine most conducive time for Vedic rituals.

Jyotisha is astronomy and not astrology.

It seems to me astrology as in predicting the future or horoscope of a person is not really Vedic.

I might be wrong..could you correct me as how Astrology is Vedic?

Astronomy ( Jyotisha) is Vedanga but I cant seem to find evidence for Astrology to be Vedic.

Feedback please.

I don't know Astrology or astronomy.

But if jyotisha is astronomy then what is nakshatravidya?

then nakshatravidya must be astrology. (or vice versa, your choice).

both terms are found in the oldest upanishads.

Jyotisha is Vedanga. Jyoti means light and Easha means lord, in simple terms it is Lord of lights. Astrology is more or less the method or application of astronomy. Astrology was practiced not only in India (Bharata) but elsewhere like, China, Rome, Greece and the western world etc. as well. However, only Hindu religious text or Vedas have the clear references of Astronomy or information on celestial objects are concerned. So the astrology practiced in this part of the world was based upon the Astronomical calculations, which is part of Veda and hence Vedaanga. The title Vedic distinguishes it from Western, Chinese, Greek or Babylonian systems. I wont call it an evidence, but surely believe there is enough logic in it.

What is the use of doing Parikarams suggested by astrologer when original shape position of planets will remain as it is even after parikaram
