Senapathy of rajaraja chola: Balakumaran

Novelist Balakumaran has written a 6 part epic novel 'Udayaar' on rajaraja chola's reign, rescue of thevarams from chidambaram temple and planning and building of brahadeeswara temple. It is an interesting and riveting book. This novel says a lot about the status of brahmins in the chola period. Raman krishnan, a brahmin, was his general. The link gives his full interview in dinamalar.

* கிருஷ்ணன்ராமன் யார்?

Who contributed for building the temple? From an inscription:

"நான் கொடுத்தனவும், நம் மக்கள் கொடுத்தனவும், நம் பெண்டுகள் கொடுத்தனவும், கொடுப்பார் கொடுத்தனவும்'ங்கற ஒரு கல்வெட்டை, கையில புத்தகம் வைச்சுக்கிட்டு தடவித் தடவி படிச்சு முடிச்சேன்"

.....
I still would like to be known as a Hindu first, than a Brahmin, since Hinduism is bigger than Brahminism.

Most honorable mr.indianassault,

i would be most happy if you aspire to be a human being first, human being next and a human being last. IMHO being a HUMAN BEING is greater than being a hindu or brahmin.

True. Mr NRN started with a capital of Rs.10,000.00 in the year 1981. Their motto, 'Powered by Intellect. Driven by Values'.
K what you say is true. But I got disappointed that he has fallen into trap of bhai-bhatijavad trap plantiing his son in his company and grooming him for the top post. This is the first step to doom. lot of senior executives are quitting in disgust from the company. In india it is family first .

K ji it is easy to be recognised as a human being or Hindu without much effort. however to prove you are a brahmin ignoring the ritualist aspects of worship, marriage and death is not easy. Defying the community and varna system in matters such as marriage calls for a bit of effort. But the plus part of hindu religion is it tolerates a lot of dissent and there is concept of pariharam for minor and major actions of dissenting behaviour. It is attractive to stay within this community. many from other religions would be too happy to marry our TB girls and do anything to get accepted by TB community

people of delhi also thought so in the beginning. they brought about a change. Youth and women will change things. Brahmins are concentrating on education without your saying so. Women are prepared to pawn their jewellery for kids education. business requires a mindset. brahmins are a service class . they lack enterprise building skills . youth can of course try. some can succeed . why not

There is no gene called business gene. Business ethics can be obtained by practice.

Some 50-60 years back, Nadar community was not affluent. By sustained hard work and co-operation they are dominating in business throughout Tamil Nadu. Their achievement has to be taken as an example for our survival.

I do not like discrimination in favour of brahmins in TVS group and NRN planting his son inis group.Where is professinalism and recognition of merit in these companies

I do not think so....Since I worked in their company, all the senior management are from other communities not from Brahmins..Be it Nayar or Murugan or Augustine in Lucas for example..Even Iyers are also there..But only by merit..Not by caste..

In anna univ campus interview ,TVS preferred to take brahmins .In one of the recent interview for a senior executive they selected a brahmin relative of mine .these are two random samples I know off. i do not know if i can generalise on this basis. my relatives reason for joining the company was that he felt more secure in a brahmin company

Will you put the same in the case of College Admissions.

Funny. Aren't we all human beings. What has that to do with brahmanas or Hindus?

Are you saying that other candidates were not selected because they were non brahmin...I don't think TVS will fall into such gutter...Were you sure that the guy selected was not meritorious?

Why can't we think that the guy was bright & therefore he was selected on merit...

I think narayanamurthy is not a brahmin, but his wife is.

Last week he said his son rohan is brilliant, but was not sure what he will do for infosys.

I am not for a moment doubting the merit of the candidates. I was talking of preferences. I am also not talking of any bias against non brahmins. all in anna univ govt colleges are meritorious.the admission process assures this.if you have to make a choice of almost equals whom do you choose in interview .brahmins because of mastery over english present themselves in a better way

Will you tell your husband the above i.e. to be human first and then Christian next?

there is a case for midcastes not to have reservations. the reservation policy requires a revisit to remove the affluent and educated midcastes out of reservation list. because they are the ruling class it is still there
