Bangalore: In a huge blow to the AIADMK, the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday denied bail to former Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case.
Denying bail to the convicted leader, the HC said that there wasn't sufficient ground for awarding bail to her.
Supporters of the AIADMK had earlier begun celebrations in Tamil Nadu after the prosecution in the case told the court that it had no objections to conditional bail to the AIADMK chief.

Shaven heads, pujas and prayers: Amma supporters call for Jaya's bail through 'divine intervention' in 'show of strength' outside Bangalore jail

Amma supporters are now seeking divine intervention for her release.

With the hearing on J. Jayalalithaa’s plea coming up before the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday, the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s followers on Monday performed special pujas, tonsured their heads and organised an all-faith prayer meeting in front of the Bangalore Central Jail where she has been lodged.

The "show of strength" baffled the local police, who were caught unawares by the sudden surge of supporters. More than 100 followers of Jayalalithaa tonsured their heads.

Why did it fail?
Is it a signal that the outcome of prayers is not guaranteed?

NO sir. She is denied bail, even though the SC has not said anything about granting bail to the accused in corruption case. This perhaps is left to the discretion of the judges of HC/subordinate courts. The Karnataka judge has played it safe by refusing bail. Now, on to the supreme court. Some learned lawyers opine that there are lot of inconsistancy and bias in Judge Cunha's judgement. This will come out at the time of appeal.

I am not on anybody's side.
But, it seems to me, that JJ has majority public sympathy and not hatred. Which itself has stunned the opposing parties.
She has turned around in the past 18 years and has done good things for TN rather than increasing personal wealth like other parties.
This is quite evident from absolute silence from the other 'major' party since her arrest. Days are counted for somebody else too.

Now its upto Ram Jeth to show his prowess. It is a slip for him too, with the bail getting denied.

Is the following acceptable:

"....AIADMK had allegedly also put up posters threatening to hold Kannadigas residing in Tamil Nadu hostage if Jayalalithaa did not get bail on Tuesday..... "

Will the Panneerselvam Govt. protect non-tamilians in the state who are innocent and remotely associated with the verdict?

Sir,

It is true that she has done plenty of good. but how does that absolve a person from guilt? how does that give license to a person to be corrupt, to amass wealth by corrupt means?

P.S: I am also a neutral person. I am not on anybody's team too.

One of the chief spokesman of AIADMK Sri Avadi Kumar has told openly on TV that it is not the work of AIADMK or it cadres but the mischief of some others and AIADMK does not approve of the same .

well, to be honest with you, I am in a dilemma too!!!

One has to reap what they sow.
But in Indian scenario, I get reminded of this "Pericope Adulterae"

"He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."

Now should we rely on who swindled less to pass on the judgement? There are folks who swindled thousands of crores and still not apprehended.
Look at the wealth of all politicians - who is poor? Who is well educated? How did they amass so much wealth in that short time? I have almost all degrees possible, still it hurts my hand to even write that many zeros for crores. And these people have stacked up elsewhere.

What about the law itself? How come it is a coincidence for people to get arrested just the last working day in a week and particularly before long set of holidays? Was the judge impartial? I am not sure.

So as per Jesus above, let's see who is without sin to cast the first stone.

I am given to understand that one SISWA prakash, the bishop of the Pentecostals in Madras, is a close friend of jj, who even appeared in jaya tv's rabi bernard interview @ 10 pm on the sunday prior to tn assembly elections and appealed to christians to vote for admk. obviously he would have ordered all christians to pray for jj. i am also given to understand that their God, the God of Israel, always answers prayers, only that the answer is not always yes. sometimes the answer is no, but an answer is certain. i conclude even the God of Israel has answered the christians' prayer in the negative.

P.S: This post is not intended to chide Mz. K, honestly. Please trust me.

Mr drb,

this has reference to your post #14.

not everyone in india, including judge john cunha, is a disciple of jesus. how would the biblical law (rather grace) apply here in india sir?

Definitely, I did not bring in 'religion' in this discussion. I am not spreading christianity.
I was quoting the good essence from them. Shall do it if Hindu, muslims etc religions have it.
I am impartial to religion too.

So humbly, without bringing in Jesus in the picture, say, I said this personally and posted a revised sentence with the same pith -

"He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."

would that be ok for Cunha?

drb sir,

I understand your motive and intent behind this quote. your quote is the jewish law given through Moses by the God of Israel when they were in the wilderness, which the Lord Jesus challenged the accusers of the adulterous woman, for the accusers to introspect, examine themselves and then apply the law which they quoted for stoning the woman, to convey the message that none in the world is righteous to accuse another.

but i think neither the indian law nor hindu dharma forbids any sinner from appealing against another sinner. perhaps the authors of the indian and hindu laws were aware of the fact that none is righteous and if jewish law were incorporated into indian law or hindu dharma, none could appeal against another and sin would galore. perhaps hence the indian law cum hindu dharma leaves it to the craftiness/cunningness/shrewdness of either the appellant or defendant/respondent to win/lose a case by twisting/sqeezing the law as cleverly as he/she could/would.

don't you think so?

by what virtue was jj acquitted by supreme court in the tansi case? please contemplate sir, also on the verdict and statement by the judges then, for jj to examine her conscience and her reaction in returning the tansi estate.

It is unfortunate that JJ had been denied bail. But of course it is legal. Whatever be the case, one cannot be against justice; one can be aggrieved against justice. It is irony in this instance that justice is selective. There are thousands of politicians all over India alleged in mountainous corruption. The powers that be should heed to Shri Deve Gowda's suggestion that JJ should be shifted to TN. There is sense in it and will mitigate bad blood between two neighbours. Nobody can question justice nor can we celebrate violence and riots bearing out of misconception.

I completely agree with you if you think that in terms of law. And I wouldn't even to dare to proclaim that I am an expert in law. That's beyond my expertise.

Without knowing the true facts firsthand, legality etc and solely depend on media for facts (which gets swayed any way - as an example - you watch Sun TV - JJ is bad. Watch Jaya TV - DMK is bad. Watch Captain - swings all sides. and so on), I am beginning to hesitate to say which politician is better. So whom to trust?

My view was solely based on deontological side. Who is guilt free to accuse her (whether she is guilty or not)? What right has God given to judges, other politicians etc to judge her? Are they free from guilt?

Again, please clarify me - which politician is a middle class citizen now? How did they acquire so much wealth in that short time? If somebody is dirty themselves, it is even belittling on themselves to laugh at other's dirt.

That's what I am saying.

If somebody else is a pick-pocket, does it give you a right to be a pick-pocket? Which legal principle is this?

All this talk about forgiveness etc. Has JJ confessed to her crimes and begged for mercy?

If tomorrow Sonia Gandhi is convicted, will you be singing the same tune?

Whatever the merits in her bail application, JJ's support among the Tamil populace is growing in leaps and bounds! The man with black spectacles should be ruing his comments supporting the conviction!

Are you sure you read my post carefully before asking me to sing the tune of your choice?

Maybe you selectively read or in a haste.

I never argued for pardoning, forgiveness etc for anyone!!! You can see that from my previous posts too.

Let me rephrase the gist of my post for you - My question was all these politicians are corrupt and they control the law and govt, hence do they have the right to find fault when they aren't saint themselves? Do they have to pack the conscience separately for this action?

Hope that helps.

I do not believe in dramas and begging for mercy is one of those dramas. In hindu religion there is no confession and Holy Absolution. Karma theory says there is results for each action. And you are right, just because others are getting away, is not an excuse.
