Ref Post # 81
There have been a few posts now criticizing the usage of the term "pappathiyamma" in the movie.

Let me point out that terms such as "paarppaan" etc have been used in this forum by some members gleefully as a taunt/ ridicule. The usage of such terms could not be prevented in this very forum, started in the name of tamil brahmins and with the purpose of benefitting brahmins. Given this fact, how are we going to make KH, who does not care two hoots about our community, remove the offending part?

I like member Sarang's suggestion. The best one can do, if offended by the movie, is to boycott it.

But we will know whether the movie is offending ONLY after we see it.
So where is the question of boycotting it??

Thanks visa. Enjoyed the video of madisar mami’s antics.

I always suspected that the madisaars are more earthly than what it assumed to be. Especially these days, when the tambrams shun it, except on certain occasions.

The fact that our grandparents and beyond that, had large families is a tribute, I think, to the versatility of the madisar – sexy enough to attract, and functional enough for a quickie. Eh!

dear Mr. Kunjuppu!
I redirect your message to my sister.
I am yet to see the video clipping even
to know what you are talking about!!! :)

This objectionable dialogue about brahmins is widely publicized in media! Members write in our forum. So... easy to boycott!

But I don't think anyone will do it. Brahmins have been teased and taunted for their practices and they enjoy them too without

getting offended! In a popular junior singer competition, the children were asked to sing 'agrahAram songs'. I felt very bad when

teen aged girls and boys were wearing 'madisAr' and 'panchakacham' respectively to sing and dance! Is it fair to make these kids

wear the dress which they are supposed to wear
for the first time ONLY on the wedding day? No one will object to any sort of nonsense

if it is about brahmin folks!!
P.S: One fat mAmi from the audience too danced for a minute with her 'showy' madisAr, revealing her mid region.:faint:

BTW many members are saying they saw the film?
Did you guys see it the moment it was shown in the cinema for a few days or you guys are watching it through some other means?

I hope no one is watching pirated CDs!

We spent a pleasant and happy four years in CBE a few months after the serial blasts. Everything was perfect - job, location, weather, people and traffic free city. It had more foreign banks, more luxury cars, modern petrol pumps and most important - more cell phones than any other non metro city of equivalent size then.

All my temple trips to kerala, karnataka (north and south), south tamilnadu were possible because of the location of coimbatore. Day trips to ooty, kodai, madurai, guruvayur, srirangam, palani - well the list of places is endless.

I still have not ruled out choosing CBE for senior-senior citizen home.

Do you also live in Coimbatore or a nearby place???

Dear Mr. sarang,
Good that you too love the cool Coimbatore!!! :)
I want my husband to book an old age home since :couch2:

he is free from his duty of looking after his brother

who was physically challenged by the cruel fate .

But he is afraid that it will give me more time to read/ write and spend in the forum

and in blogging. For that sole reason he refuses me the carefree (or duty-free) life we

can actually have from now on.

Dear VR ji,

What lies beneath is the question?

Often when I see a person covered head to toe with body outline or shape not visible..I myself wonder.."what is the actual body type of the person?? Ectomorphic(slim/skinny)..Endomorphic(over weight types) or Mesomorphic(muscular types).

I personally feel Salwar Kameez is the cause of OBESITY among young Indian girls cos the body shape is not visible and the increased body weight goes unnoticed.
So they do not take action when they gain weight cos the Salwar Kameez covers the body just like how a cloud covers the sun.

When people wore sarees they were slimmer cos body weight abd waist size is visible when a saree is worn...so people would have been more conscious to remain normal weight.

Ok now back to story....what I am trying to get at is..when we do not see something..we start to wonder what lies beneath..and for a male that translates to fantasizing of the Unknown..rest I think you can understand!

So middle path is always the best..don't cover too much or don't expose too much.

Dear Mr. sarang,

I would very much prefer you use alternative terms like physically challenged or physically/ partially disabled etc. in lieu of the existing word. The word "handicapped" does appear jarring when used in the context of human beings.

This is just my opinion. There is no intention to criticise or find fault or create a controversy.

Dear Sir,

Out here there is a terminology in Malay..Orang Kelainan Upaya(OKU) meaning People With Differing Abilities.

This terminology is used to replace the word handicap/physically disabled/partially disabled/physically challenged.

Dear Renu!

I myself had the experience you are describing.

During my first visit my sons insisted that I get enough salwar sets for the stay there since walking around in a saree in that chill piercing sleet and ice cold wind was out of question.

So I made a last minute purchase of 5 or 6 salwar suits.

The sari will balloon up when we step down in the street and Chicago is famous for is ice, piercing wind and cold weather.

I had been gaining weight slowly and steadily and never realized it since the dress I wore was quite loose and never showed up the increase in size.

At one point I found it dificult to walk. I hdd gained more than 5 K.G. and never knew it.

You are right once again.
Men fantasize on the unknown and the unseen.
They also fantasize on the known and seen
So what will the girls do???

I will change it to Physically challenged by cruel fate since it was NOT his fault.
Is it O.K. Mr. Zee??? :)
But you also will have to delete my quoted text from your post with double underlining!!!
Right Sir??? :)

Dear VR ji,

1)Don't we all fantasize on the unknown and unseen?

None of us really "know" God and God remains "unseen" to the gross body...yet we pray..so in a way prayer is a fantasy of the mind too.

We lead an existence of unknown origins and unknown/unseen destiny yet life goes on just becos we have hope and faith.

So same way..guys know nuts about their fantasy but have hope and faith to keep them going.

2)Now coming to your next question.."what will the girls do?"

Why should be bother what they guys are fantasizing about?

Brahman Satyam Jagat Mithyam...therefore technically the fantasy of the guys are just transient and does not exists! LOL

I think the original words - disabled, blind, nondi etc became unparliamentary because the way in which those words were said as insults or abuses. Otherwise they just denoted a condition. Pappan-pappathi is alright if no offence is meant (parpana chittargal - andal in nachiyar thirumozhi). Parayan was not a derogatory word in the past, but now one can be arrested for using that word as an abuse. Meaning and intonation of words change with time; one has to be careful.

This anecdote is from my wife; in her convent school, one muslim girl always called her 'pappathi' and refused to stop that usage. It stopped when my student wife and her friends started calling her 'thulukkachi'.

I wish I can find a parliamentary word to retort BBs.

Dear Sir,

Why don't you replace xxx and xxx with ----- and ---- please??

One of these may be the cause...

1. He is cross with me.
So he prefers to use cross.

2. He has been planning to have three crosses under my name.
So he utilized this opportunity readily.

3. He just did not stop to think of the impact of the triple x!
He may just be absent minded or distracted.
