It is said Vedas are the very breath of Sri Mahavishnu. And for Sri Mahaaperiyavaa
it was/is “Veda Rakshanam”. In his Deivaththin Kural Sri Mahaaperiyavaa has emphasized
on all of us the importance of performing our Nithya Karma Anushtaanams regularly or at
least our Sandhyavandanam of which Gayatri Japam is a part. He almost pleads with us
to perform 1008 Gayatri everyday, if not at least 108, or 54 or 12 being the barest minimum.
Regardless of veda samrakshanam or not, let us do our nithya karma without fail and not letting
down our dear Maha Periyavaa

The Ati Rudra Maha Yagnam is very sacred and it drives out the calamities and difficulties of mankind.
The Sri Rudram describes various atributes of Lord Siva, THE SHIV TATVA or SHIV RAHASYA.
Through the chanting of the Sri Rudram, Lord Siva’s various attributes and aspects are invoked
and worshipped. In the Taithareeya Samhita, 4th skanda (chapter) – the 7th sub-stanza is known
as ‘Chamaka’. In this section, the letters ‘cha’ and ‘mey’ appear repeatedly and it is hence known as Chamaka.
Eleven recitations of the Sri Rudram followed by one recitation of the Chamakam is called the Ekadasa Rudram.
Eleven Ekadasa Rudram recitations make one Laghu Rudram.
Eleven Laghu Rudram recitations make a Maharudram
And eleven Maharudram recitations make an Ati Rudram!
Thus, in an Athi Rudra Maha Yagnam, the Sri Rudram will be recited 14,641 times and the Chamakam 1331 times,
with the performance of 1331 Rudra Homams by 121 Ritvik priests. It is said the each word of SRI RUDRAM has
hidden meaning and posses various remedies for incurable diseases.
Sree Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi swamigal kaingarya Trust will be performing an Ati Rudram
on the occasion of Mahaperiyava’s Jayanthi from May 15th to 24th , 2013 @ Echangudi. One can get a
glimpse of the 12 AtiRudrams conducted by the Trust in the video.
