...... just because the needs are different ,it does not mean that they cannot be exclusuive for born brahmins
They can be named 'modbrams' just like 'tambrams'!

ther is need for luxury brahmin retirement resorts for brahmins who are well off.

their needs are different.

Who said they enter poor homes! They choose 'resorts' like five star hotels! :thumb:

Dear Krish Sir,

When modbrams don't live like brahmins, why should they mind about castes of inmates? :noidea:

dear RRji

there is no hard and fast rule on what to compromise on.

if all the facilities they want is only in all caste resorts, they would consider that option too.

it all depends on how much they need their drink or non veg food

they can have a separate resort for drinking ,smoking and non veg consuming brahmins where there are no inhouse bhajans

or temples

A kind of exclusive different brahmin community to meet the needs of modern living

they can also a have a golf course and a few outdoor and indoor games and a card room for bridge enthusiasts.

A bar in the club house would be an additional plus.

just because the needs are different ,it does not mean that they cannot be exclusuive for born brahmins

right on. modbrams like to move with only modbrams or north indians. none of the other tamil castes or religions.

they have poonal and eat veggie only. but love their drinks and smokes. no religion overtly for them, except for thevasams (& maybe amavasai). they faithfully change the poonal every avani avittam.

they know not anything about hinduism or their own veda. a very peculiar breed.

Even some Veda chanting brahmins visit Saravana Bhavans and skip madi food! :)

I guess brahmins have the most relaxed protocols, than other caste people!

kunjuppuji
nothing peculiar about this type of brahmins .

there are many like this outside tamilnadu in north and western india also.

they have poonools which they take out on occassions when required, drink and take non veg [specially chicken is the favourite] at office parties [maamis ban them

home]. yet they wear their caste signs prominently[single

streak of red for iyengar , vibhuthi light on forehead]. these guys find it very difficult to maintain their lifestyle after retirement as most of their personal preferences

of food ,drink or smoke is not easily possible . smoking in public places is banned by law and it is prohibited at home by wives/ It is difficult to be modern tamil

brahmin senior citizen

In I I T Madras hostels students used to have 'better wing' and 'bitter wing' on each floor in their hostels.

No need to give any explanation for these names! :D

P.S: We can suggest this idea to Senior resorts too, for the sake of namesake brahmins!

sorry raji dear lady, i find the concept of madi a conveniently hypocrite process. all my relatives who in their 70s and 80s adopted madis, were crooks or indulged in meat/alcohol in their younger years. i have no problem with that, but i take issue when overnight, they adopt madi, and the wife goes about on them with a reverence. and so do some of their children.

again, the madi is very selective. sweets from saravana bhavan may be ok and so is icecream. but not coffee or food touched by the servant. no wonder the community has a bad name.

There are a number of Residential Communities where non-vegetarian food is allowed. About Smoking most of them have restrictions, but not total prohibition. Residential Communities do have Swimming Pools, walking tracks, Gymnasiums, mini Golf course and other luxuries of life.

Our community has a number of non_brahmins staying with us. Brahmins form their own clique. They object to others smoking and eating non-vegetarian. We had a rub with this group. They formed a group and started reciting Lalitha Sahasranamam loudly sitting in the common space. We told them it can not be done in Common spaces.

Dear Nachi Sir,

I think you are the right person to give details of your 'resort' to Kunjuppu Sir.

I have only heard that some of them allow drinks and non-veg but not visited them.

Please send him a PM. Thank you. :)

Instead of using PM to write about these retirement homes, please use this thread and post in public. I too would like to know about these retirement homes. I am not interested in NV, alcohol, or smoking. But intrusive conditions would be a problem. I am not interested where the association is regimental in which guru to follow etc.

After “some in this thread” having gone to town about caste system, & how they want to settle abroad coz the caste system still continues in India etc… why the hell are you all looking for “retirement homes” in TN & that too “Brahmin ones’?????? Heights of hypocrisy – LOL !!

Brahmin retirement homes will be very strict when it comes to Non-veg, drinks & smokes. If you don’t likeit, go someplace else to squat!! Don’t come here & criticize those who are running it.

Pl build your casteless retirement home in USA or Canada !! And for the person from Delhi, please use all your great thoughts of a luxury Brahmin resort with separate club house, drinks, party, smokes, etc.. in Delhi or outskirts of Delhi... why come to TN after bashing in every other thread?????????

Astonishing level of hypocrisy... This is like the NRIs who want to avoid all things Indian & associate with all things white, suddenly calling all the Indian relatives when they land into a big crisis like their kids taken away by the child care services crying & pleading to the Indians, Indian Govt, bad mouthing the whites cos they don't understand the Indian way of raising kids etc.. - aren't the NRI supposed to follow the American way of raising kids - :llama::llama:!!!!!! LOL !!

thanks raji, dear lady.

this gentleman, my relative, is not one who will go to a resort of various communities. he is a staunch pattar, and does not quite enjoy the community of others. he is strictly vegetarian, and that too only south indian, with chappathi occassionally.

that he loves his scotch and cigarettes and was unable to find a luxury retirement home in kovai is the issue. and does not want to get involved in bhajans, though his wife would.

i am not getting involved in his search. he can find his own. thanks anyway :)

What are you talking about? No one is searching for a Brahmin Retirement community. I am writing about my experiences in a retirement community which is not Brahmin. This is a cosmopolitan community. In fact most of the retirement communities are not Brahmin. The retirement communities in Coimbatore are an exception.

Nachi - Sorry to hijack your thread. some time back, we had 2 or 3 people currently discussing in this thread, went hammer & tong that the very reason they left India 30, 40, 50 yrs back was because of caste system & how they abhorred it (as though they were so politically aware when they were in their 20s). Now these same fellows are discussing about retirement homes in TN & some are talking about the incidents some one faced about retirement homes run by Brahmins. My point is - if they have permanently decided to stay in USA & Canada because the caste system is so abhorrent, why are they now talking so much about retirement homes in TN ????? Not to mention this person from Delhi who bashes TN & TBs & Bs in every other thread, why does he want a luxury Brahmin resort in TN??????????????????? so just highlighting the hypocrisy of some of the members here!

Our community is facing a crisis. The canteen is now being run by the management. They are running at a loss. Since it is not necessary for all the residents to compulsorily eat in the canteen the cost of the food becomes more. Eating in the canteen is compulsory in many of the Retirement Communities.

Now the management is thinking of entrusting the work of running the canteen to a third party.

The whole community is agitated.

I find it strange that the residents of a Residential community still strive hard to maintain their culture and identity when the very fact that they are in a residential community itself shows "break down" of culture cos the elderly are supposed to be looked after by their children and not be in a residential community in the first place!

So when that part of "breakdown" of culture is acceptable so why not different community people learn to give space to each other without the need to impose rules on each other?

Dear Sir,
The management of retirement communities aim at making profit in their ventures!

So, they will never have any business which gives loss to them.
But, it sounds weird to cook for oneself in a retirement community, where people take shelter to have a peaceful life! :couch2:

Donot loose "Spirits" and feel gloomy - Enjoy this about us ! Fun is No sin!

Retired folks (from back home - where else!)

Four old retired guys are walking down a street in Yuma, Arizona .

They turn a corner and see a sign that says,

"Old Timers Bar - ALL drinks 10 cents."

They look at each other and then go in, thinking, This is too good to be
true.

The old bartender says in a voice that carries across the room, "Come on in
and let me pour one for you! What'll it be, gentlemen?"

There's a fully stocked bar, so each of the men orders a martini. In no time
the bartender serves up four iced martinis - shaken, not stirred - and says,
"That'll be 10 cents each, please."

The four guys stare at the bartender for a moment, then at each other. They
can't believe their good luck. They pay the 40 cents, finish their martinis,
and order another round.

Again, four excellent martinis are produced, with the bartender again
saying, "That's 40 cents, please." They pay the 40 cents, but their
curiosity gets the better of them. They've each had two martinis and haven't
even spent a dollar yet.

Finally one of them says, "How can you afford to serve martinis as good as
these for a dime apiece?"

"I'm a retired tailor from Phoenix ," the bartender says, "and I always
wanted to own a bar. Last year I hit the Lottery jackpot for $125 million
and decided to open this place. Every drink costs a dime. Wine, liquor, beer
- it's all the same."

"Wow! That's some story!" one of the men says.

As the four of them sip at their martinis, they can't help noticing seven
other people at the end of the bar who don't have any drinks in front of
them and haven't ordered anything the whole time they've been there.

Nodding at the seven at the end of the bar, one of the men asks the
bartender, "What's with them?"

The bartender says, "They're retired people from India ...............

They're waiting for Happy Hour when drinks are half-price."

A solution could be to run the canteen on a sharing basis by the regulars.
