I dont know how well this thread will be accepted but Paranormal Entities are one of my favorite topics of interest.

Today I am pasting about a Malaysian Female Ghost called Pontianak.

Read on....

Pontianak (folklore) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seriously, Renuka, how can a doctor start a thread about ghosts? But just to play along and buttress your claims, Ponitianak seems to be similar to Petni, the Bengali female ghost.

Ghosts in Bengali culture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Petni: Petni are female ghost usually unmarried. It is a ghost of usually those who committed crimes in life and are cursed to walk the Earth as ghosts. The Petni can be very vicious, and apparently can appear to be almost completely human until they attack. The only distinguishing characteristic of the ghost is the feet – the feet of Petni are backwards.

PS. I don't think anybody has found out if the Petni is a virgin or not.

mohini is a reality in triplicane of my childhood.

we lived in street houses, 2 or 3 stories tall, all big building divided into 'portions'. by this i mean, on a single floor, about 6 to 8 families lived, 2 rooms, one of which served as kitchen, shared bathrooms.

in the next building to us, a girl, rejected by her lover, committed suicide by taking poison, in the mottai maadi.

the mottai maadi was a popular place for the men of the households to gaher, after food, have vethlai/paakku, or cigarette, and on hot days to sleep (those were days when fans and radios were luxuries - 1950s)

i was not allowed to sleep mottaimaadi by mummy as she felt i was too young. dad did not opt for it either, as the poor man, after a hard day's labour, had bare energy to drag himself home, supper and bed.

i still remember one night, the amaLi, when about 10 men came rushing down and woke up the whole building. they had seen the figure of the young
girl who committed suicide, dressed in white, and floating on the terrace.

i still dont know which one of the men woke up first. but very quietly one family left the building within the week. it was whispered that the mama
of that house, had got that girl pregnant and hence the suicide.

after that the practice of sleeping in the mottai maadi stopped for a while, and soon we moved from triplicane to santhome/mylapore.

may that girl's soul rest in peace !!!

Biswa,

Believe me..as a doctor out here the Question of Paranormal comes up very often when we deal with some patients.
Many patients sometime come to us just to rule out every possible physical affliction and then ask us docs if this could be Paranormal affliction.

We have to respect the sentiments of patients and I usually tell them to get all test done first and then see a medium.

Once when I was working in a rural village it was midnight and a young woman was brought in a hysterical state and was screaming that she had seen something near some banana tree.
I diagnosed her as anxiety related hysteria and sedated her with IV tranquilizer.
For the 1st few minutes she was quiet and I was checking her vital signs again when she suddenly sprang up at me and spoke with a rough male voice telling me to leave this girl alone and turned real violent.
I called for the male attendants to help out and not even 4 men could hold this frail girl down.
Increasing the sedation dose didnt help too.
Finally one of the male attendant was also a part time medium and he started reciting some Quranic Verses and then the male voice started to make some demands with the attendant and after a real tough time the male voice stopped.

The next day the parents asked me for discharge and they took the girl to a medium and she was fine after that.

You should have been there to see her voice change to a rough male voice and facial features change to very masculine types.

Hi Renuka,
If this is true then it is really unbelievable. I guess we should not really quibble with you if you had this experience first-hand.

Perhaps you should write a book or make a movie to publicise it. Remember the exorcist?

K, don't you think there is something fishy about this "girl" wearing clothes? Vacating a week later adds to the intrigue.

Mostly such claims are hoaxes. For those cases when the person really did see something, there surely is some non-supernatural explanation, like seeing a snake when there is a rope, or may have been the result of self-suggestion. When one believes in such superstitions and are fascinated by the idea, it is only a matter before they see ghosts.

Cheers!

Ok now coming to even spooky stuff,

Once when I was on duty in Hospital sleeping in the on call room..my room suddenly turned too cold and I was not too sure if it was a dream or some vision.

I remember seeing 2 malay man badly injured and bleeding and trying to call out for help and trying to touch me but there was a thin transparent barrier between me and them and their hands could not reach me.

I woke suddenly and I saw the clock and it was 4 am.
Later that day the police called me to say that they are bringing 2 accident victims(2 lorry drivers) for post mortem.

When I went to the mortuary I got a shock of my life cos the 2 dead men were the 2 men I saw in my dream.
As I was removing the shirt of one of them I found a traffic offence ticket issued by the police to this person for speeding and the time of issue of the ticket was 4 am just as my dream.

Time of death of these 2 was 6 am.So when I had that dream they were still alive. So how can you explain this?

aham brahmasmi ,i am not this body but a spirit soul.for the soul there is no birth or death.just changes body into another body owing to karma or actions in life forms.that is why bhu bhuvah suvah lokah aRE chanted as light being a source of medium as well.para-normal happenings are real.some are truly gifted to see things beyond the normal as in "paar-paan/paar-paal" .

Dear Mr.Biswa,

In this modern world of Science and Technology, Humans tend to ignore the existence of God and Ghost. If they don't ignore, than they will be looked upon strangely and would be considered primitive. To avoid such embarrassments, many tend to join with others to sing - "They are Ghost who believe and think of Ghost", though they personally have experienced such scary paranormal activity.

Hardly we can find people, especially who are scientists and Doctors, who share their paranormal experiences openly.

In line with your claims, let me narrate a story, that my DAD told us, during our childhood.

The incident happened in Pune Defense Medical College/Hospital...

A young Medical Officer/Student who was into some advance medical course, was spending one night in a Lab for his studies. Since he had interest in such Ghosts stories, he was reading one scariest ghost story during his break time. He was seated in a chair near a big table, and there was a Human Skull on the table, hardly 2 feet away from him.

It was mid night when he was reading a scary ghost story, sitting near the table. All of sudden the human skull started moving towards the right slowly and than stopped. It got to the young man's notice and he felt bit scared and was keep looking at the skull often (thinking he must have been just obsessed with the fear). Suddenly the skull started moving fast towards the same right direction on the table and after few seconds started moving very fast towards the left. The young guy got too scared and died of heart attack, resting his head on the table.

The next day morning at around 6am when few men entered the room, they found him dead with no injury. When they were pondering on the cause, the skull on the table again started moving fast randomly. One man held the top of the skull firmly and lifted it. The movement the skull was lifted, a Rat, trapped underneath the skull, got its way out!!

These men could well understand that, as what must have caused the young healthy guy to suffer heart attack and die.

Isn't it funny???

But all of them could not understand as how the Rat got underneath the Skull. May be it had entered through one of the holes on the eye area of the skull and could not get its way out from one of the same holes.

This above story may not be truly paranormal. But citing such real stories, we can not conclude with all affirmation that, Ghost does not exist.

Rekka and others,

I'm sure you must have all seen The Sixth Sense. Some people are just more prone to see/meet ghosts apparently because they are in tune with their psychic/spiritual side. Who knows?

We go for walk here every night (well stopped now coz of the riots for a bit) ane enjoy the cool summery nights. Many a time suddenly me an this other girl can smell "malli poo" (jasmine) and incense. We know for sure there are no Hindu houses around at all. Sometimes we even hear golusu sounds. The frst time i experienced this, i was shocked. I thought what even here in England? lol. But yes, we don't turn and try to investigate the smell or sound and just walk really fast.
Saying the Hanuman Chalisa helps alot as well!

Sowbagyavathy Amala, Greetings.

People from Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand also use Jasmine flowers. In fact, I bought very nice அடுக்கு மல்லிplants from Cambodians. Most of them are either Christians or Buddhists. (They use துளசிfor flavour in thier cooking. I bought Thulasi plants too from them). Jamaicans use flavours similar to our cooking too. Unfortunately, I did not have any experience with ghosts or anything like that.

Cheers!

Amala and Ravi,

I will share one more story..when I was in Manipal and working as an intern in the ward there was a lady from Goa who was terminally ill with Liver Failure due to Alcoholism.
She became an alcoholic becos she was physically abused by her husband and Mother In Law for not being able to produce a child.
I was not in charge of her but my female doc friend was in charge of her.

This patient was a christian and a nice soft spoken lady.
My doc friend who was also a christian used to take extra interest in this patient and after work she would read bible to her and motivate her to think of god and pray that her husband and MIL start to treat her better etc.

I used to tell her..that just have faith in God but no need to waste time praying for your hubby and MIL they seem beyond repair and if you survive this(with gods grace)..try to move on with life and consider remarriage.Dont let the past drag you down when they ruined you till you are actually terminal.
It was a pityful sight cos with liver failure her abdomen was swollen and protuberant and she used to say "dont I look pregnant doc?"

One day i had gone to Bangalore to see Sathya Sai Baba who was in Whitefield that time and stayed for 2 days in Bangalore.
In Bangalore I dreamt of this patient and in my dream she told me this"Just came to tell you good bye doc..thanks for everything"

The next day when I went back to Manipal..I went to the ward and got the news that she had died the very time I had the dream.

I related this to my doc friend who used to tend to her but to my suprise my friend got mad with me.She said.."I was the one who read her bible and payed attention to her and you will be giving some weird advise and she came to you and not me?"
I dont know why my friend got so mad and she was very disappointed.

nara,

i am just recollecting memories of about 50+ years ago.

in my own home growing up, we used to leave the windows open, and there was the mango tree outside. i used to always feel scared of the shadows of the tree moving or the swishing sounds at night.

i now live in a concrete jungle in the middle of toronto. one only had to look outside for the blandness of reality sans paranormality.

btw, i find the canadian graveyeards, especially the old ones, well tended and grassy, very peaceful and have no fear walking inside them during the night. the only creatures that get disturbed are the young teenagers often found 'making out' between the graves :)

Dear all,

Let me share one more incident that's been experienced by my Sister..

It was during the period when we were in Guwahati, Assam Air base. It was during the begining of the month of December,1985. Being winter season, it gradually becomes darker between 6pm and 6:30pm and completely between 6:30pm and 7pm.

My mother was in kitchen and sister was sitting in dining room and we brothers were playing outside on our lawn. Dad was out as he was incharge of Station's community Cinema Theatre. At around 6:30 the electicity supply shut down, through out the campus due some issue. Before mum could lit a candle, a paranormal incident took place in a fraction of time.

Since my sister was seated in dining room, she could have clear visibility of one of the bed rooms, the doors of which was oppened. She noticed a lady sitting on the bed and lovingly asking her to come close to her. Sister, for a moment was not scared at all, started moving towards the room, approaching her. When she could enter the room and closer to the bed where that leady was seated, she could well recognize her as her grand monther (dad's mother, who was in Chennai with one of her sons), who was showing love and was not scaring her. The moment she could recognize her granny, she was shocked and could gain her senses to understand that this is paranormal and started screeming out of fear. Buy that time mum could lit a candle and she rushed to the room, consoled her and got her out. Sister than narrated us, her paranormal experience.

The next day we received telegram, stating, grandmother is absolutely sick and hospitalized without any hopes of survival. We left for Chennai within two days and participated in performing rites to the departed soul.

Dear Renuka,

Very interesting to read about this human doll like vampire - "Jenglot"

There was actually a paranormal display in the National Museum here and some "controlled" ghost were put on display.Jenglot was one of them.
Controlled with some "mantras" by the experts.

Vellimuttam Sree Dharma Sastha Temple - Upadevatha

In relation with the above, let me share one more incident that happend long ago in my monther's home.

My mother has 4 brothers and 3 sisters. In total there are 8 as alive children of their parents. Their parents in fact had 1 eldest son, named as -"Santhanam". Santhanam was considered as the most briliant, humble and obedient child of this parents. He used to do SanthyaVandanam every day along with his dad in the morning. He often skips Evening SandhyaVandanam at the right time, after Sun set. And for that, often gets scolding from his father for performing it late.

When he was 18 years old, in the evening he was discussing and chit chatting with some of his friends in a ground in a remote area. They than started playing hide and seek game. Others hide themselves here and there and Santhanam had to seek them. While searching for them, he entered the near by isolated temple and started searching from one corner to another. During this, he heared one of his friend's voice, saying - "Santhanam, I am here, in this temple only, seek me out". So, he could accept it and started searching for him, deep inside the temple. The voice of his friend was often repeated, saying -"I am here". After nearly 30 minutes of repeated anouncements and subjesequent efforts to trace him out, Santhanam could realize something fishy and started getting extremely nervous. Within few minutes of his nervousness, he felt some one whith heavy breathing approaching near him and in a fraction of seconds he received just one fierce slap on one his cheeks. It was too hurtful to him and being unable to withstand the force, he fell down. Having found no one near by, he got paniked and rushed to home, being horrified.

He could enter home at 7pm with his terrified face and was not uttering even 1 word while his father kept scolding him. He went straight to the bed and laid down. His father could find something strange, approached him and tried to communicate with him. But, Santhanam kept quiet. He was found to be traumatised and in high temperature. One priest attended to him and could reason out to his father, a probable paranormal attack. Santhanam was treated for rearly 10 days with the help of a "Vaidhyar". The last day, he could speak and explained to his father as what exactly happened to him. The same day evening at around 6pm, he died.

Dear Ravi,

When I was in college there was a rumor that just a female vampire head was seen floating around in the boys hostel and male student from Bahrain had seen it and warned others about it.
I had one super hero types classmate(male) from Malaysia who thought that its all not true and went up to the same floor at midnight and yelled out that its all BS and told the ghost if you exist come show your face.

And guess what!!! the Ghost head appeared and chased this classmate all around the hostel and he was screaming like mad and till he was banging at the door of a friend frantically who also opened the door only to see the same head.

My classmate had some high fever for many days and never did he want to challenge any ghost again in his life.

When I was aged 13 we stayed in a huge government house which was a former Colonial House and it was really old and the only house on the hill surrounded by dense jungle.
Many people told us not to take that house becos it was well known to be haunted.
We still took it though.
When we first moved in..nothing really weird happened but after some few weeks at sharp 4pm daily we could hear like a soldier marching up and down in the corridor and hear like a jeep drive up to the porch but there wont be any jeep or car driving through.

Every 4pm..we will hear the jeep sound and then a soldier marching in the house corridor and you should have seen how my dog will react as if he was seeing something and barking at god knows what.
Animals react to paranormal entities sometimes even violently.

After a while when things were getting too regular we had to call a medium to the house for a blessing session and he said its was some entity which was there during the Japanese occupation who still reenacts his life in the army before he was killed and still hadnt moved on and thinks he is still in the army.

Dont know how far that was true but you should have heard the jeep driving sound and the marching.Sounded very much like an army personnel.
