Why I am dilly-dallying is, there is a very simple and ready made answer:

a = 1, b = 1, c = 2, d = 4 (remember there is no condition that two or more unknowns can not have same values)

a + b + c + d = 8

a x b x c x d = 8

{Why is everyone looking for exotic answers??Lots of RAM and hard disk capacity??? }{spoken in a jovial and non condescending manner and without attitude}

thats right. Some times we think the solution is got to be complex, but end up making it so.

Dear KB,
thanks for your clue and the little more details.
based on your solution, I came up with something pretty close - 1.92,1.32,1.54 and 1.63, but not accurate though.I havent figured out the formula yet - waiting !!!
could you give me more steps to this:?
4a = a^4, which results in a = 4^(1/3) = 1.5874!

4a = a^4

so 4 = a^ 3

Taking the cubic roots to both the sides we get a = 4^ (1/3)

Am I correct Mr. K. B?

Oh boy! Am I happy that is not N.B :becky:

So am I off the hook now??
yes, of course, although you have left us

Hoping I find one such opportunity for you :)

Want more ideas for further complicating? Yours truly available on demand:

N.B: - advaita nirguna brahman? eh?

What else can IT be, being a true "Parabrahmam" :couch2:?

In the middle of everything and yet :bump2:

NOT affected by anything! :sleep:

Surely I could use your latent talents for posting :welcome:

multi-solution-problems, as and when the demand arises!

Would you then be interested in finding out the values of a + b + c + d = a*b*c*d = 7.11

Or you done with abcd series.....?

this sounds strange... I have heard about 'known devil' being better than an 'unknown angel'. you are saying
'an unknown devil' is better than a known one. Any explanations?

As you know there is a general standard idiom is "Known devil is better than unknown angel".
It means that it is always better to deal with someone or something with which we are
very quite familiar and also know that even if they are not ideal, than taking a risk with an
unknown person or a thing. As regards the unknown angel, the point at issue is "If a question
arises as to how to balance both work and personal life in an unknown place, the instant answer
should be that it all depends on the attitude of a person". Like - Existing Opportunities vs Future
Prospects in an unknown area.

You may recollect that in olden days, people used to tell us the stories of demons, devils, etc.
as if they wander on the village roadside during the still moments of night after the sun goes
down. While we have the memory and problem on the one side, the attention, flexibility
and speed is on the other side to tackle such issues. If we make friendship with an unknown
angel, that will identify the known devil and sort out the issue than getting trapped. Nothing
is known in advance or predetermined unless one makes familiar with one to become a known one.
