புதுவையில் ஒரு புதுமையான மனிதர்.

If we make fun of our own pundits and priests how will the other people respect them or us! :(
NO ONE pays the Yathoktha dakshiNa as prescribed by the Vedas.
We manage to Keep a flower in the place of a gold coin.
"Ponnai vaikkira idathil poovai vaikkiren!"
After all the priests too have families to feed and clothe and bright / brilliant children to educate.
Recently I met a brahmin priest with a very pleasant voice and really pleasing manners. He was more than a mere priest. He was the news reader in the local News channel. That explained his good looks, pleasant voice and pleasing manners.
It need be that true once a priest... always a priest! :nono:

Here comes the 'certified Brahmin' in the post by VRji.

Another certified Brahmin this time by RRji.

Priests and pundits can not pay their house rent/ school fees/ grocery bills/taliroing charge etc with the somans and brass vesses they are given.

Everbody wants to be paid in cash. SO WHY NOT the poor learned brahmins priests?

Thankfully the days of barter system is dead and gone for good.

I have no knowledge about temple priests But Sastrigals are definetly not poor In fact they are richer than most of the middle class salried people Both my sastris in Bangalore and Madurai own four bed room houses in well developed areas Banglore man has Honda city and Madurai man Alto and Honda Bike and apple Iphones!
When our Banglore sastrigal had to Monblize 11 Brahmins for the 13 day cermoney of my mother he had to moblize them from Hosur and other places Reason The Brahmins practising Vaidheeham is dwindling like the brahmins running Hotels! Few wedding caterers are there but the servers and cooks under him may not be Brahmins - they are dressed up or Certified Brahmins when some fellow serves food in a the dining hall of Brahmin wedding calling you Mammi and speaking to you in Brahminical accent donot be sure he is a Brahmin He may even have a caste symbol on the forehead and a Poonal Like Anglo indian staff Nurses / Stenogrphers and PAs these professionals are Dwindling Tribe. True with other vocations also Like teachers Govt.Servants Lawyer etc You have more Brahmins in US universities teaching than here ! To be qualified in a padasala and to practice vaidheem seems to be better choice! as they are in short supply but in great demand! Finance and Journalism still attracts brahmins and they thrive in these fields!

Exception DOES not prove the rule.
May be few brahmin priests have their thalai ezhuthu written properly.
But most people are not that lucky!
After all a true brahmin is supposed to rich in knowledge and poor in wealth!

Can anyone please define a certified Brahmin

now that we have an idea about a qualified Brahmin?
peace.gif
Very easy, dear Sis!

When someone 'qualifies' a 'certificate' is given, right.

Meaning of '
certify'

ˈsəːtɪfʌɪ/

verb

past tense: certified; past participle: certified

  • attest or confirm in a formal statement.

So if mAmAs do the 'Gayatri japam' everyday, they are both qualified and certified brahmins!

NADARINJA PAPANUKKU POONAL ETHUKKU? By birth certificate yes they are brahmins But by behaviour? I believe Ramanuja created some certified Brahmins Learned Vashinava may know the criteria for this certification!

When people write LOL it is supposed to mean Laughing out Loud which rarely happens if ever. Since it is used all the time by some it has lost its charm. But this post was caused me to truly laugh out loud - thanks for the humor :-) Still LOLing

Dear VR ji,

There is a TB priest from India out here who drives a BMW and has 2 wives..one back in India and he married a Non Brahmin lady here and has brought all his first wife's children here and they are all working here now after having studied here.
He also has children from his Non Brahmin wife and all kids stay in one house and his first wife too comes on and off to visit him.

BTW his 2nd wife is ultra modern and dresses up very well with sexy saree blouses.

When people write LOL it is supposed to mean Laughing out Loud which rarely happens if ever. ........
LOL also means Loads Of Love!! :D

BTW, most of our members laugh only to themselves and don't expect others to  with them!

Thaalikku oNNu; Jaalikku oNNU, Onnukkulle oNNu! :clap2:

You are talking about Shastrigals in Bangalore. Visit South Mada Street, Mylapore, in the morning, and see the plight of Shastrigals there, desperately looking for at least one assignment.

A relative of Appaya Dikshidhar is sitting in Velleswarar Temple and frantically searching for some assignment.

The status of Smarthas doing Vaidheegam is not good in Chennai.

The story about Madurai Sastri is slghtly differnt from Renus in that he does not have 2 Loving or rather Living wives He is about 50 or so he is revoultionary in that he has 2 Love marriages to his crdit! Out of his 1st wed lock he has a son who is in a padasala in Nannilam Thanjavur dist. A daughter doing Law in SASTRA Law University ! This lady died 2 years back and he was in an affair with another lady much youger to him by 25 years a brahmin! while she was alive & got married to this lady soon after his wife died and has one baby girl with in a year . I think the children did not approve of this and his daughter who is yet to complete her studies got married to a Naidu without the knowledge of her father sort of teaching a lesson to this man which he cannot stomach . We have qualified brahmins , Certfied brahmins - Now a Filtered Brahmin?

My Mother In Law had to borrow from her Aasthana - Sastrigal Panjami Sastri to perform the wedding of her eledest daughter and he was the captain of the ceremony! He got Dakshinai and interst for the loan - lower than the market interest at that time She told me this when I was married into the family dcades back!I Sastrigal owned a house and M in L was in a rented house!

Dear Renu,

This priest should be in 'machchakkAran' category! :D

Dear RR ji,

I feel the 'machchakkAran" virus infects some who land here from India.

I also remember some long time back a TB priest from India who works here told me that as a Brahmin male he is entitled to take a wife from each Varna and he said he is entitled to have 4 wives of different Varnas..he also said NB males can not dream of taking 4 wives of different Varnas.

I have no idea what happens when they land here..all want to take another wife!LOL

From one of the Yahoo answers for the Q, 'What is the benefit of chanting Gayatri mantra'.

''Best Answer:

Gayatri is Vedamatha, the mother of all Vedas. A person totally devoted to Gayatri recitation can achieve great success in the

path of self advancement. Gayatri inspires man towards righteous wisdom. An astral, conscious electric current flows

constantly in a person who is able to establish a relationship with Gayatri as it influences his mind, intellect, heart and inner

self. No sooner the divine light of Gayatri dawns on the intellectual field of a person, the darkness of evil thoughts, false

convictions, degrading vices start dispelling.

Gayatri undoubtedly and miraculously transforms the mental framework of a person to a systematic, healthy, righteous and

balanced personality. The well developed mind produces thoughts leading to action resulting in happiness. His work

becomes excellent and his well intentioned thoughts radiate happiness, contentment and peace!

Gayatri worship results in extraordinary benefits to its devotees. Numerous persons over thousands of years have achieved

material and spiritual benefits by worshipping Gayatri.''
