WILL TAMIL CINEMA GOING TO FORGET T.K.RAMAMURTHY ?
Visvanathan - Ramamurthy, The name speaks legendry of Tamil cine music world.
We would have seen the thunder applause when their names showed in the title.
Need not to say that this pair governed the Tamil cinema industry with their fine music
composing. Like an uncrowned king they dominated the industry during the year 1950 to 60.
La...tter Mr. Viswanathan alone gave many hits . But Mr. Ramamurthy unfortunately separated from
M.S.Viswanathan in 1965 .He had composed several films individually.The illfated separation
does not work properly in the latter .But the former gave many success stories till 1980.
Trichy based Mr.Ramamurthy 86 , a veteran violinist hails from traditional musician family. His
grandfather Malaikottai Mr Govindasamy Pillai was a popular violonist in Trichy.His father also
a chief violonist at that time.He accompanied his son Ramamurthy at various stage performance.He
advised Ramamurthy to learn vocal. But he did not take much interest in this.He actively practiced
in violin.
T.K.Ramamurthy's father took him to HMV. He met C.R.Subaraman.
He was very much pleased and recommended him to continue as violinist in HMV.
After rendering his service , he employed in Saraswathi Stores . AVM Chettiyar
was one of the partner in Saraswathi Stores, at that time.
C.R.Subaranan was very busy in films. He accompanied Ramamurthy in his troop.
M.S. Viswanathan was also employed as harmonist in that troop
In 1952, C.R. Subburaman passed away unexpectedly .
Due his sudden demise there was some stagnant situation prevailed .
While in the midst of completing songs for the films which he was
assinged to compose music M.S. Viswanathan and T.K. Ramamoorthy took the lead to
complete the remaining songs for those affected films such as Devadas and Kaathal.
After Devadas and Kaathal , they had worked together and gave many hits.
At that time Shankar - Jaikishan pair was very popular In the North .
Interestingly seeing the achievements of Shankar - Jaikisan ,
M.S.Viswanathan suggested to T.K.Ramamurthy an alliance
in the South. T.K.R. at first, disinclined his suggestion.
But with the insistence of M.S.Viswanathan he agreed to pair
under the banner of Ramamurthy-Viswanathan.
Viswanathan is seven years younger than Ramamurthy.
The first movie 'Panam' gave great success under this banner with the beginning of
M.S.Viswanathan's name placed first on the title , T.R.Ramamurthy was in second.
N.S.Krishnan was director and said he insisted this order.
But it was learnt that Viswanathan-Ramamurthy both were agreed in this criteria.
It was the second movie to Sivaji Ganesan.
In the year 1965 they had to split with the release of Ayirathil Oruvan.
They drew a line between them for various reasons . Hence they are maintaining
good relationship till this date.
At then , whare the movie Ayitathil Oruvan was the last one for them .Here after the
separation of their office , he Mr.K.Ramamurthy had done individually 20 films.
