As results of the 4 Assembly elections in the North have started trickling in...BJP has snatched Rajastan from Congress...It is going for a mammoth 3rd term in M.P..In Chhatisgarh it is a close call..May be BJP squeaks past the victory post

But the surprise is Delhi where the debutant Aam Aadmi Party led by IIT educated & former IRS officer Arvind Kejriwal is making a phenomenal entry ..

We will get more clarity as the voting progresses...We will see the effect of Narendra Modi on the voting....But he win hands down over Rahul Gandhi in this round of Mid term elections which are a curtain raiser to 2014 Parliamentary elections!

Dear Shri Gane,

BJP has won three of the four. Parliament elections are 6 months away. BJP is as much rotten as Congress. I therefore fear that in six months' time BJP will give us enough reason not to vote for it in the Parliamentary elections!

Dear Sangomji,

The BJP has very good Chief Ministers who are very dynamic ..Among the current crop, be it Shivraj Singh Chauhan of M.P or Raman Singh of Chhatisgarh they are all on a hat trick..Even Vasundhara Raje of Rajastan is a 3 time C.M & is considered a people's C.M...In case of Delhi they delayed announcing the candidate of Dr Harsh Vardhan..Or else it would have got 2/3rd majority...He is a very clean and non controversial candidate

So I don't think the BJP will loose the goodwill in next 4 months...Rather it will capitalize on the good will to create a Modi wave in the country!

My dear Gane,

We seem to forget the truth that BJP also comprises of the very similar kinds of people who are all essentially corrupt (Gadkari, Bajpayee's son-in-law, Sudarsanam, etc.) and power-hungry fellows (Advani) and there is no morally pure leadership at the top of BJP who can boldly remove any such unsatisfactory elements. Once power is near, we also do not know how much damage people like Jethmalani will be able to unleash. Plus, let me be clear that the UPA/Congress will also have many things within its secret cupboards which they will give out at the opportune time. What will happen (more likely) is that both Congress and BJP will come to a mutual understanding of "live and let live" and this is what most probably happened when UPA-I came to power in 2004. The people of India, the Aam Aadmi gets shortchanged, all the time, that is all.

You seem to be a BJP sympathiser. So, you will not be able to perceive these points. Right now you may not even like to hear these things. But I am sure that a day will come when all these things will come out in the open. All political parties are like சேற்றில் அழுகின மட்டைகள் and even the AAP will soon turn into one such.

I do not know how this result will influence the next Parliamentary elections but one thing is for sure that the Congress has got eggs on their face with these results and they will now conveniently put the blame on Manmohan Singh and his Governance ( to Protect Rahul and Sonia from taking the blame ) and dump him the same way the dumped Narasimha Rao .They will bring the argument that the party is different from the Government and the failure of the Government headed by Manmohan Singh has led to the downfall of the Congress and that he should be kicked out first . I do not think the Congress will put Rahul as the PM Candidate and risk his defeat and either with promote Sushil Kumar Shinde , a Dalit and will like to take the Credit for Promoting the first Dalit PM of India .

: Results of Rajastan,M.P, Chattisgarh & Delhi

The results are in the expected lines. The reasons for this mammoth rejection of Congress rule is simple. The people want a change. The verdict is clear. The so called anti-incumbency is selective. People have given their consent to continue good governance and rejected corrupt and inefficient Leaders. Unfortunately the people's anger against Congress in Delhi was wasted on AAP. This fledgeling Party has no program except passing Jan Lokpal Bill.

From the comments of Rahul Gandhi and his mother on the defeat of their Party, it seems they understand the people's anger but do not seem to know how to solve it.

dont underestimate the broom. what happened to congress in delhi can happen to BJP in rajasthan, madhyapradesh and gujerat. if aap decides to contest there.Today manish sishodia is taking a victory procession outside my home in delhi flanked by dozens of motor cycle riding white aap topiwallas. mostly youngsters in their twenties. The gleam in their eyes ,enthusiasm and happiness made me wish tambrahms could become part of aap movement and join them in large numbers to rid off congress ,bjp and dravidian parties in tamilnadu

I totally agree with sangom . We are going to see from tomorrow onwards how many elected members of these three states are going to vie with each other to get a ministerial berth in government. Some disgrundled fellow may try to pull down the other and this game will go on unless that person is accamadated in some other plum post. All the elected persons are the chip of the same block. What else we can expect from them, The very same thing will happen in AAP also.

I watched the post poll result comments of Sonia & Rahul..The 4 states that went to poll are in Northern part of India..People speak in Hindi here..But both mother & son spoke in English..Not clear who the audience was..As usual away from reality!

Congrats to AAP Party for their victory in Delhi on their maiden election but now AAP has become more a headache to BJP than Congress . Congress is smiling in this defeat as they enjoy seeing BJP and AAP not taking stake to power in Delhi in spite of their victory and they would be happy that a similar situation happens in the national elections in 2014 and most likely such a situation will happen in 2014 with no party getting a Majority like it happened in Mid 90s after Narasimha Rao Government lost power and all regional parties came together to form a United Front Government . If BJP is serious in forming the next Government then they must bring in more pre poll allies apart from Akali Dal and Shiv Sena and form a formidable front before elections itself to give confidence to the people to elect a stable Government for the next elections .

frankly after delhi elections congress has ceased to be a threat to BJP.in 2014 . AAP may surprise again in 2014 with its brand of alternative politics. it will take sometime before AAP has to dilute its idealism in pursuit of power . their shunning identity politics in the name of caste ,creed or religion and riding on the back of youth volunteers and dispossessed classes holds a ray of hope for all of us fed up with what conventional parties have to offer No alliance is going to help BJP to counter spit and run tactics of AAP. and nimble footed campaigning of aap volunteers. . they have huge support of media and jholawalla NGO s . It is a ray of hope for our youth and all of us disgusted with politics

In digital media there is a hushed talk about the source of funds of AAP and it being a naxal outfit..Not sure how much is it true..Take for example Prashant Bhushan, the legal face of AAP..He wants to handover Kashmir to Pakistan; Manish Sisodia another key leader has close contacts with Naxalites and Maoists...Not sure how their governance model is going to be

Since AAP has succeeded in denting the traditional vote banks of congress and bjp you will hear this kind of talk to discredit the party in every way. AAPs holier than thou attitude towards these parties is forcing them to push the panic button. however I agree with you they do not have a governance model worth talking about and they require good middle class professionnels and intellectuals to formulate their policies and programs in case they come to power. they have only yogendra yadav and a bunch of youngsters . they may get power to govern faster than we imagine as they are feeding on popular discontent with traditional parties.

vgane,

talking of handing over kashmir to pakistan is not a crime (yet) i think. and talking to naxalites/maoists who are all tribals exploited to the extreme by the government, is also not a crime.

kashmir, has been a festering cancer within us, all because nehru liked his ancestral homeland to be part of india. it was muslim majority. the sooner we get rid of it, the better chance of peace and goodwill with pakistan. look at the number of indian soldiers killed every year there.

re maoists, it is high time these too given their own states and right to rule. atleast they wont be destroyed like what is happening now in orissa and chhatisgarh.

Pakistan has completed the genocide of Hindus there...If you give Kashmir to Pakistan then please transfer the Indian Muslims also to Pakistan.......Let us be fair to both sides!

Do not underestimate the AAP .see what happens to congress and bjp during loksabha polls in bangalore and other metropolitan towns with large population of youth and urban poor. people in slums are not bothered about Modi or Sonia. they think of price rise ,large power bills and frequent power cut and water shortage. the lavish lifestyles of politicians paying lip service to aam aadmis concerns will definitely learn a lesson AAP may not have policies and programs to attract the middle class. they may opt for them as it is better than the NOTA option

living in foreign lands ,thinking of handing over chunks of yr homelands to others seems easy. goodwill can never be got by appeasement . nehru learnt that after handing over tibet to china.handing over kashmir to pak. is the same.
tribals mayhave their own issues relating to grabbing of their mineral rich land and fruits of development not reaching them . Tribal rights need to be protected. maoists are not their saviors. tribals will support anyone who gives them a good deal and are caught between the security forces and maoists.

I doubt whether the Delhi electorate will have the same enthusiasm for another re-election . If AAP forces a re-election by their stubborn stance of not supporting BJP ( or at least giving it an outside issue based support ) then either the people will shun AAP and give a clear verdict to BJP or give AAP an overwhelming Majority appreciating their stubborn stand .

AAP I believe is happy with a hung verdict as that is the way they can dictate terms and enjoy power without responsibility .In this they resemble the leftist parties who were manipulating UPA 1 from outside and trying to get things done but finally got eggs on their face when their bullying over the nuclear deal failed during UPA 1 and they lost power in WB and also their bargaining power with the Centre .

If AAP also tries the same thing they will meet with the same fate like the leftist parties .

The Delhi verdict is clear on the following :
1) People want the Congress to sit in opposition and have lost faith in them and they have been reduced to single digit in Delhi .
2) People have kept faith in the BJP , AAP party but since they have doubts about both they have given neither a complete Majority and given a mixed verdict .

So best is for BJP ,AAP to come down from their stubborn stand and at least form a Government with AAP giving them an issue based support .If not then Delhi should go for a re-election again coinciding with the Parliamentary election and we have no idea how people will give a verdict for the re-election .

Re-election will benefit BJP and congress. People are likely to lose their attraction for AAP. BJP is likely to get majority especially if Modi comes again to canvas and give election speech.

Better for AAP to support BJP and see how it works and veto any policy that they feel is anti people / anti AAM Party and if BJP still goes ahead with its anti people's Policy they can then issue a no confidence motion and pull it down but right now best course for AAP is to extend outside support to AAM Party based on certain special issues and go step by step instead of adopting MY WAY OR HIGHWAY .

DMDK garners 2,285 votes from 11 Delhi constituencies

DMDK garners 2,285 votes from 11 Delhi constituencies - Times Of India

CHENNAI: The ambitious move of actor Vijayakanth to field DMDK candidates in the Delhi assembly elections failed miserably as party candidates secured just 2,285 votes if the figures from all the 11 constituencies, where the party contested, put together.

The party performed poorly despite the fact that Vijayakanth, his wife Premalatha and other senior DMDK leaders had campaigned in the national capital for five days, hoping to win over a sizable number of Tamils in Delhi.

Ishvari, who contested from the Wazirpur seat in North Delhi, got 362 votes, the highest among DMDK nominees, and K Swarna from Janakpuri received the lowest of 110 votes.

Vijayakanth fielded a candidate in the New Delhi constituency where Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal defeated Congress CM candidate Sheila Dikshit. DMDK's candidate G S Mani secured 205 votes in the constituency. "Getting a little over 200 votes in a constituency comprising a considerable number of intellectual people is a not bad," Mani, who is a practising Supreme Court lawyer, said.

Vijayakanth highlighted the pathetic living conditions of Tamils in jhuggis (slums) in the national capital. Eight of the 11 DMDK candidates hailed from slums, party's Delhi state secretary V N Dakshinamurthy said.

"We performed better than the NCP and the SP in a few constituencies. When nobody cared about the people in the slums, we fielded candidates and we believe our vote bank would increase in the coming local body elections," he added.

Senior leaders in the party are upset about the outcome and feel it will reduce the party's bargaining power in the Lok Sabha elections. They are now wondering if skipping the Yercaud bypoll, to contest in Delhi, was a wise decision.

AAP which won sizeable number of seats in Delhi is not willing to join hands with any other party to form a government and is insisting on fresh election with the hope of getting a clear majority. No one is concerned about the burden it will impose on public exchequr ,the only interest being selfishness.
