A nice view of Swamiji's darshan to its devotees. Thank you very much
for this post. Elders normally say that good company is important as it
helps to cultivate good habits. But my thread link with you, I am fortunte
to get many different images of Baba and his verses. There is a proverb
that God is the doer, but the guider is instrument.

According to Baba, a Man's well being depends upon his degree of
contentment and each man carries his destiny in his own hands.

When Arjuna prayed that Krishna must tell him the true characteristics of a Sthithaprajna, the Lord explained that aStithaprajna is free from all desire and is stable in the knowledge and awareness of the Divine (Atma) alone. This state can be attained by two processes: first negative and then positive. The former is to give up all the promptings of desire in the mind and the latter is to implant therein ever-present joy. In the negative process, remove all the seedlings of wrong and evil from the mind; and in the positive process, grow and reap the crop of attachment to God. The pleasures the senses draw from the objective world are weeds; the crop is attachment to God. The mind is a bundle of wishes, and unless these wishes are removed by destroying their roots, there is no hope of vanquishing the mind. When the mind vanishes, th e Stithaprajna is made.

There is a saying that if we surrender completely to God, we will certainly get his blessings.
Sometimes we may get angry with the mother if she does not give what we want, but Mother
never gets angry with her children. She gives may not be instantly, but certainly gives little
later, by making her understand. Like that, if we make our sole object, thoughts etc and
dedicate our time towards HIM whenever time permits, we are sure to gain the supreme goal.
We have to stay by HIS side with sincere approach either through meditation or any other mode
chanting slokas, stotras, etc. and keep silent. He will do the rest to us and his blessings will be
showered on us. Whatever we do, whatever we may be in our status, we have to bear him
in our mind with complete faith and confidence, HE knows what he should do for us. There is
a proverb and saying "Will the ocean send back the waters to the several rivers". It is ultimately
the faith and confidence in HIM brings the fruits of prayer.

You must first conquer desire. For this, neither waging a war nor the use of pleasing words to persuade desire to disappear is necessary. It will not vanish for fear of one or for favour of the other. Desires are objective; they belong to the category of the ‘seen’. With the conviction "I am the see-er, not the seen", you must release yourself from attachment and conquer desire. You must watch the working of the mind, from outside it; you should not get involved in it. That is the meaning of this discipline. The faculty of the mind is like a strong current of electricity. It has to be watched from a distance and not contacted or touched. Touch it and you are reduced to ashes. So too, contact and attachment give the mind a chance to ruin you. The farther you are from it, the better. By skillful methods, you have to make the best use o f it for your own welfare.

Renukaji you are doing an excellent service. We really get utmost happiness when we
hear Baba's spiritual address. One thing we must all understand is that, according to Baba,
in a community as a whole, where there is absolute faith, there is love with no limits,
where love exists, there is complete peace, where peace prevails, there is feel of GOD's
presence, where we feel GOD's presence is there, there appears the BLISS. Human
tendency is when we pray GOD, we place our requests before him generally. GOD knows
what he should give us. It is a natural instinct in a man to have desires and ambitions.
But let us not have big desires that we may like to place before GOD, try to accept whatever
HE gives us, howsoever HE may like to treat us, let us assume that is the GIFT that HE likes to
give us. If this concept is followed, I am sure we all will certainly be happy as the faith and
belief in HIM will, without asking for, bring all what we intend to ask for.

You know sir..you are right about the part that we tend to put our request before God.
I remember when I was a child my prayer used to be a simple "Hello God how are You?" and my mum used to say.."ask God something..ask Him to bless you in studies etc.what is this hello how are you?"

I used to tell her that "everyone asks God for things but no one asks Him how He is"
She used to find it amusing how I used to feel.I still do that before I pray.."Hello how are You?"

You are very right in your analysis about God and our desires.

Embodiments of Love! There is nothing more precious in the world than Time; do not waste even a single minute of it. People today tend to waste their time in selfish pursuits instead of devoting it to selfless service. They are eager to receive help from others, but have no desire to be helpful. There are two types of human beings - the degraded and the sublime. The degraded are those who seek or receive things from others and not only forget to repay the obligation, but even try to harm those who have helped them. The sublime are those whose natural trait is to go to the aid of others. If they give a word they will try to honour it, whatever be the difficulties and obstacles. To be precise according to Baba's sermon "what you would normally desire others to do for you,
you should do for others voluntarily, similarly you should practice to respect others, as you want
to be respected by them. Baba in one of his Birthday Messages, mentioned that everyone must say
the following in the prayer everyday for the universal good cause.

"Loka Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu (Let all beings in all the Worlds be happy).

[h=4]Lesson 253 from Living with Siva[/h][h=3]What IsDharma?[/h]One of the great joys of Hinduism is dharma. What is dharma? Dharma is to the individual what its normal development is to a seed--the orderly fulfillment of an inherent nature and destiny. Dharma means merit, morality, good conduct, religious duty and the way of life of the wise person. When people fulfill their dharma, they fulfill the very purpose of their life; and when they act against their dharma, they create new karmas. Just as we are born in a physical body with a certain outward appearance, our dharma is a certain accumulated pattern. We are expected to live through this dharma during a lifetime, understanding that all persons can be in their rightful place, doing their rightful dharma at the right time. The Hindu has this understanding. It's inbred. It offers a certain contentment in knowing that there is a rightful place for each soul in this vast universe.

Dharma is determined by the accumulated patterns of karma, the samskaric reactions to the experiences of karma throughout all the past lives, the sum of impressions that make up the seeds yet to be sprouted, which must be worked out through prayer, meditation, sadhana or tapas if they are not beneficial, but allowed to sprout if they are beneficial. These seeds, all collected together, make up the dharma of each individual. There are some who do not yet have a precise dharma. They have not collected up into themselves enough merit or demerit. Their options are great. They are still making--through their actions--impressions within their own minds in order to gather them together, to firm up their own mind to form a dharma, to fall into a certain kind of pattern.

Dharma is the heritage of all Hindus. It is working for the divine beings in the Second World and the Gods within the Third World. Hindu Dharma is working for the Gods, as opposed to working and living for our own personal wants and needs. Performing one's dharma properly is working in harmony with the divine plan of the universe, as laid out by the Gods.

Working for the Gods, being their employee, their servant or their slave, and not working for one's personal self, must be the prime occupation in life, whether the Hindu is a farmer, merchant, soldier or a king, a peasant, a sadhu or a rishi. All work done in the right consciousness, performing the right dharma, is in service of the Gods and is work of the Gods by the servants of the Gods. Working for one's religion, for the Deities and the devas, should be our occupation twenty-four hours a day, every day, during our waking hours on the physical plane and on the inner astral plane and higher mental planes at night. We should continue this work with an unbroken continuity.

To better understand the vast concept of dharma, look upon it as the natural process by which the inherent perfection of the soul is unfolded and realized. An acorn's natural pattern is to grow into a mighty oak, but the pattern for a rose is different. An acorn will never try to become a rose bush. Our good friend, Sita Ram Goel, once said, "Now I was made to see dharma as a multidimensional movement of man's inner law of being, his psychic evolution, his spiritual growth and his spontaneous building of an outer life for himself and the community in which he lives." In contrast, by performing an incorrect or adharmic pattern in life, the soul reaps more karma and is retarded for perhaps an entire lifetime. We call it righteousness and goodness and virtue when the dharma of a particular lifetime is performed correctly.

A very nice and excellent knowledgeable description of Hindu Dharma.
No doubt Dharma has much deeper and wider meaning than the word 'religion'.
It is rather derived from the Sanskrit root 'dhri' (to hold). Dharma is the path
of righteousness and living one's life according to the codes of conduct as
described by the hindu scriptures. Good Dharma is rather equal to Good Karma.
Thank you very much for the above post.

There are two forms of Love. One binds you to God and the other binds you to the world. The mind is responsible for either of these states. It is like a lock. If you turn the key to the right, the lock opens; If you turn it to the left, it gets locked. The heart is the key to the lock of the mind. If you turn the key towards the world, you have attachment (bondage). You must see that desire and hatred do not get lodged in the mind. Bear no ill-will towards anyone. Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba came into our lives during the latter half of 1978 when we were transferred to Raub, Pahang, Malaysia. Prior to that, although hailing from a Hindu religious family, much controversy and corruption of religious ethics, coupled with fanaticism of a certain ideology, shattered whatever belief and devotion I had for Hinduism.

Light came after a short period of darkness when in Raub we were 'introduced' to Bhagawan in His own way. Love sprouted spontaneously for Bhagawan and my family was put in the right direction and devotion. Things began to fall in the right perspective and our lives have become smooth and peaceful under the guidance of the Divine Guru.

Bhagawan's miracles were many and amongst others the latest is when Bhagawan became a surgeon to correct a bone deformity of my youngest child, Roshan.

Roshan, a boy of 8 years, is the youngest of my three children. This boy was born with a bowing deformity on both legs, but more pronounced in the left. It never struck us that the boy, who was walking by throwing his left foot across the right in the form of a 'T", needed treatment until one day on 7.10.81 he was referred to the Orthopaedic Consultant in the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital. The consultant, who was from India, on examining the boy opined that he was having a rare bone deformity which can only be corrected by surgery. The consultant fixed an operation date, but on our plea, he arranged for a second X-ray. He had a good look at a set of X-ray pictures taken prior to seeing him.

With heavy hearts we returned home thinking to ourselves the pain and agony the child would be undergoing if surgery was to be performed. We were more worried about the outcome of it. What would happen if something were to go wrong? Thoughts of the consultant's words that the leg bones have to be "reset" sent cold waves down our spines. We prayed to Bhagawan for help.

My wife, who easily breaks down due to motherly affection, was expressing her sorrow and simultaneously endeavouring to conceal it. As the father, I was trying to put up a bold front. However, both of us had one common stand. Leave it to Bhagawan and apply His BLESSED VIBHUTI on both his legs before he goes to bed. My wife did it continuously for three days.

On the fourth day, as usual, the boy was having tuition from his mother at home. Suddenly he complained of severe twisting pains in both his legs, but more pronounced in the left. The pain, according to him, was felt right up to his hips. The mother doubted the words of the boy, as he was known for his tricks to avoid his lessons. He would seize the slightest pretext to run away. But continuous pain inhibited the boy from learning further and he went to bed in tears. The whole matter was left at that stage and I was not made known of it either.

The next day, when I was having my lunch, my son happened to pass by and something caught my eyes. It appeared that there was some change in the style of his walking. Without making him aware, I asked him to walk to a certain point in the house and what did I see? The boy walked perfectly normally. There was not the 'T' formation when he walked. I called my wife and, even without informing her about my experience, requested her to observe the walk. We could not believe our eyes. We asked the boy to run a short distance on the road opposite our house.

It was done. The Divine Surgeon, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, had done it. What shall we say? How shall we express ourselves over this MIRACLE?

On 9.12.81, we had an appointment with Dato Dr. Sivanantham, Head of the Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, General Hospital, Kuala Lumpur, as the previous consultant had returned to India. We went into the doctor's room loaded with a fresh set of X-rays taken on that very day. We informed the doctor, that we are Sai Baba devotees and told him of Baba's miracle that had taken place. We requested his professional opinion even though we needed no further proof. The X-rays were seen, the boy's legs were thoroughly examined and a brief silence preceded before the doctor commented that the legs were perfect. In his own words 'I wish the doctor (from India) was here to witness this'. We requested Dr. Sivanantham for a statement of his professional findings, which he kindly consented to give. I reproduce below, with his permission, the report he gave to us.

'Roshan, an eight years old Indian male, was seen in the Orthopaedic Clinic on 2.9.81 with a complaint of bowing deformity of his left leg since the time of his birth. He is handicapped by this deformity in his games in school and was shunned by his classmates as he could not run fast. He was seen on the 7th October 1981 by a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in my Institute who confirmed that the boy had a medial torsion deformity of both tibiae (leg bones) more pronounced on the left than on the right. Patient was advised to undergo surgical treatment but the parents wanted time to think over it before giving the consent for surgery.
'Patient was seen again by me on the 9th of December 1981, and to my surprise I was not able to detect any deformity in both the legs. X-rays of the legs done on 9.12.81 did not show any deformity in the bones.

'It is a well-known fact that deformity in children can get corrected spontaneously but this process takes many years. In this particular case the deformity has corrected itself within two months. According to the parents the boy complained of twisting pain in the legs for a few days and suddenly one fine morning they noticed him to be walking and running normally without any deformity in the legs. I cannot explain it in any other way except by saying that this is a miracle that is to be seen to be believed'.

Sai Ram.

There are many events rather uncountable to talk about Baba's miracles. It is because
HE is above all everything. An Avatar of God in the Kali Yuga. I practically saw a case
where heart surgery was deferred because of HIS miraculous cure. Baba is familiar and
most famous for HIS manifestations around the world and the frequent manifestations
of Vibhuthi, Kumkum, Amrit, which generally appear in his Photographs were prayers and
Bhajans are done fervently with the belief in the eventual victory to cure a person's illness.
To cite an instant, Husband worships Krishna as his Deity while Wife devotes her prayer
to Lord Subramanyam as her Ishta Devtha. When the wife fell with the disease of cancer,
their prayer to Baba did materialize through Lord Subramaniam in the form of a Snake going
around her bed and disappearing. The family members have witnessed this incident and
it was unbelievable to them. Lord Subramanyam appeared in the husband's dream and
indicated to him that his wife's cancer is cured and she does not need any treatment further;
her health will improve slowly in the coming days. This is a true incident which I heard about.
Like this there are many many more...

The Divine is not separate from you. You are the Divine. This conviction must grow in you. In the beginning you regard yourself as a mere human being. Then gradually you realize your potential divinity. Finally you realize your own inner Divinity. Embark on this journey to attain union with the Divine from now. Time waits for no one. Concentrate all your efforts to realize God. The primary requisite is the elimination of the ego; without this, the bliss of Divinity cannot be experienced. Ostentatious worship, wealth, power and position will not help you in the spiritual quest. They cannot confer peace or remove the fear that haunts man all the time. Only the man of faith is completely free from fear. Hence develop faith in God and lead a God-directed life. The one who is conscious of one’s faults is blessed. Equally blessed are those wh o see the good in others.

Jesus sacrificed his life for the regeneration and welfare of mankind. He also proclaimed the truth: One Spirit resides in all beings. He said, “All lives are one, my dear son. Be alike to everyone." You must regard the body as the temple of the Spirit; bear in mind that Divinity is ever within you. Human body is a vesture for the Spirit. Only when you realise this truth can you begin to experience the Divine. Remember, wherever you may go, the Eternal Spirit remains with you. People may be different in form and name, in colour and nationality, and from varied historical circumstances. But God has no such differences. Hence you should not cavil at any religion or attack it or deride it. You may profess whatever faith you like. But you should not disparage another's beliefs. It is a travesty of devotion. We must always respect the div ine that is in every being.

Practically speaking, many Sai Devotees who are in Ambattur regularly
visit Sirdi Dai Baba Temple built here recently and do Seva voluntarily.
Sai Baba fulfills our desires, protects us from calamities, worries, ill-
health and Bless us, our dear ones with good health and prosperity.
When we are in pain or disturbed mind, our mind will be very weak.
I am sure, if we chant with dedication and good faith, "Sai Ram, Aum
Sri Sai Ram, Shirdi Sai Dwarakamai, Aum Sai Sri, Sai Jaya Jaya Sai.
Baba always likes your prayer wholeheartedly and you will certainly get a
positive result.

So long as the objective world continues to attract the mind, one cannot claim complete success. Hence Krishna in the Geeta says: “You must establish mastery over the senses; then you need have no fear, for they become serpents with fangs removed. Man has three chief instruments: the mind, the intellect, and the senses. It is when these three work in unison and cooperate with one another that either 'immersal in the flux' or 'liberation' happens.” Krishna anticipated that Arjuna will be puzzled to know what will happen "when which operates with which”. So He himself provided the answer. He said: "When the mind cooperates with the senses, you enter into the flux called Samsara (worldly life); when it subordinates itself to the intellect, you attain the knowledge of the Divine. One path leads to worldly desires, the ot her to Divinity. The intellect must resolve; the mind must carry out the resolution so made. That is the correct procedure."

We are after all normal human beings. We are the subjects of objective world.
We see many things. Every thing does not get into our heart. Real world to our
mind sometimes seems logical from the sense perception. It is generally believed
by all that the ultimate truth had to do more with the feelings than with the reason.
Similarly, we normally expect some events with a very high probability to happen/
materialize than those with a very low probability not to occur. Thus as per the
directives of Shri Baba we must exercise control in our mind to take us to the path
of divinity. In our liberated Society, freedom is not denied to us to frame up our
mind on HIM with full concentration and dedication, perhaps we do not know as to
how to pursue it. This is possible only through meditation and absolute faith in
HIM.
