But that does not entitle you to engage in action indiscriminately. When you build a house, you install a door in front. What is its purpose? To admit all whom you welcome and to keep out all and sundry, and not let them in as and when they like. So too, select the impulses, the motives, the incentives that enter your mind; keep out the demeaning, the debasing, and the deleterious. Admit the highest wisdom of the scriptures, the wisdom culled out of the crucible of experience (anubhava jnaanam).

My sincere effort is to always try and attempt my focus with a strong desire on the lines directed by
Bhagwan Baba. Though I read many books on the lines advocated by Baba, my experiential knowledge
is yet to come up to my expectation level. If we go through the precincts of Jnanaam (knowledge),
we will have an idea of two categories. Vaasana Jnaanam and Vivechana (Vivek) Jnaanam. As I said
earlier we are objects and not inanimate. Our thought process (aalochanas) are also passing through
the mind every moment, because mind is the instrument which experiences (anubhava) culminating into
either pain or pleasure. To gain any knowledge, there is a person, who wants to know, similarly, for any
knowledge there must be an object, about which the person wants to know. This object is called as
Jneyam. Jnaanam is the bridge between Jnaata (Person) and Jnaanam (knowledge). If any one of this
is missing, one cannot derive knowledge. Suppose, if a person, who wants to know something does not
exist, there can be no knowledge; similarly if the person does not know as to what he wants to know,]
there cannot be any knowledge. Thus, we can say, for any knowledge to take place, the three entities
what we mean here, i.e. Jnaata, Jneyam and Jnanaam must mingle together. These three are mentioned
as Trputi (satisfaction) in Vedanta.

Every person has the Vivechana Jnaanam because he is endowed with Buddhi, i.e. intellect, which
the animals and birds are denied by the God to certain extent. There are certain classifications to
this effect.

Vasaana Jnaanam - urge for hunger, thirst, ambition, desire, security, etc..
Vivechana Jnaanam (Buddhi) - Intellect. This is further amplified as

Loka Jnaanam - Common Sense
Saastra Jnaanam - Scientific Knowledge - desire to have inventive thinking
Kala Jnaanam - artistic knowledge or sense etc.
Dharma Jnaanam - Knowledge of religion, Karma and Upanishads, etc.
Brahma Jnaanam - Knowledge about Supreme Power - G0D; Brahman

If we listen to lectures of Shri Velukkudi Krishnaswamy, we would get lot of
inputs. His Upanyasams are telecast in Podhigai, Vijay, Shankara etc.

I have tried only a humble effort here to bring out a few points. It is an
ocean and it cannot be just like that over a single post.

As Bhagavan mentions quite often in his discourses, we have to make humble
efforts to exercise control of our mind in the right direction to understand HIS
voluminous quotes.

Yes, we must do our duty lovingly and selflessly, come result what may according to Geetha.
Most of our epics and scriptures too emphasize on this aspect of doing one's duty as one
can not escape from the obligation predetermined. It thus amounts to do "Kartavyam" at
all times during our life. If one, i.e. he, who fails, to perform his duty breaks a thread in the
loom.

As regards selflessly fulfilling one's duty, we had seen women in those days in our
villages, no strict moral code, have sex (satisfy husband's physical needs), having babies
(reproduction machine), cleaning utensils, cleaning house, cooking food, feeding elders first,
children next and eat at the end, if available, making her life miserable, attending to weak
or sick husband (whether earning or not earning) attending to hating Father-in-Law, leaving
everything upto God, without knowing, whether it is compassion or pity on her. In spite
of all the above, She believed that there is some one above her who will look after her and
she continued to do without a break until her last breath.

People have tried to get this peace by accumulating wealth, which gives power over others and the ability to command conveniences and comforts. Some have sought positions of authority and influence, so they can shape events suited to one’s aims and fancies. Unfortunately, these paths are beset with fear, and the peace that is secured thereby is liable to quick and sometimes violent extinction. Real Peace (Shaanthi) can be achieved only through Love! It is the fruit of the tree of life. This fruit with the sweet essence is encased in a bitter skin. The bitter skin is symbolic of the six evil passions that encase the loving heart of man: lust, anger, greed, attachment, pride and hate. Those who remove the exterior through hard and consistent disci pline attain the sweetness inside - the much desired peace; this peace is everlasting, unchanging and overwhelming.

Sai Ram. Nice a very good post.

No doubt, with the Grace of God we can countermand anything, but we need to
attain the Grace of God, only through the spiritual practices.

There are many paths of approaching Nearness to the Almighty God. His Grace
and Generosity alone engineers our mind to work or direct us to do spiritual deeds
forcussing us on HIM. There are certain things that are fundamental to every
human being and it is quite natural that everyone has the ambition or desire to get it fulfilled.
After all we are human beings. At this point of time, the need to learn is our mental need,
the need to love is our physical need, i.e. the essentials of food, clothing and shelter,
the need to love is our social need of belonging, Thatha, Patti, Athai, etc. and ultimately
there is also a need to be created in us the love of spiritual life to seek the blessings of
Alimighty God. Some say, an unGodly Hour is an outrageous time of Day. As our
Beloved Baba says, we must ensure to reach HIM without any worry of past Karmas, who
will take care of that, whether it is morphine or drug.

Samarpanam.

There is no single thing in the universe that does not engage itself in this great task. At times, we feel, life is full of sufferings. Suffering is mainly due to attachments
that we have. We also might perhaps say, from our inner thought process, that
much of the suffering comes out of ourselves, mainly out of our desires to lead a
happy life without any problems and further we have an ambition towards love, to
the near and dear, last forever and to have the pain, distress and grief, disappear
or vanish from life altogether. If one part of the body suffers, all the other parts of
our body generally shares its suffering, but we feel that we ourselves are totally
affected.

We always find a good night's sleep leaves us feeling refreshed, alert and ready to
take up or tackle any tasks that our given to us. Why, humour helps us to become
positive.

Olden days, elder people used to say, Lemon water helps us to loose weight and helps
our body to improve the immunity and digestion. Similarly, eating vegetables and fruits
may help the human body to make its own aspirin.

Like that, the benefit of prayer brings us is that it adds to our good deeds and increases
our faith, self confidence, selfless acts. Thus, our distress is out. It gives new and fresh
health to the body and clarity to mind. When the body and mind work together harmoniously
on a particular object, we we will get the balance in our whole structure of our body
including nerve cells. Prayer will be able to reduce our stress hormone levels to the lowest
level.

A great man once said, the more we laugh, the more we think and the more we think,
the more we laugh. That is why, we should do Bhajans, Nama Sangeerthanams, etc
so that our body and sole is directed towards HIM and that makes all of us fresh and
enables us to prostrate unto his HIS feet.

Sai Ram. Mankind should become one family is a great source of inspiration to all
of us but we are not mentally matured enough to have that thinking even in the
21st Century. We fight for our borders and encroach. There is no broad consensus
as yet. If every one follow Bhagwan Baba's guidelines there will be no War, no calamity,
no poverty, no drought, a free and united Universe and there will not be any economical
differences too. In India we fight for water, dam, electricity, etc and in the process,
common people are killed and put to untold problems.

We must all work for Baba's concept. People will not accept the ideology of Bhagwan Baba
because of historical, cultural, religion and socioeconomic background that exist in the
world. Our ancestral environment differs. Cultural diversity exists rather than culture itself.
There are gene (biological) variants causing observable differences, apprehension between
human population on various economical sets up besides differences in skin colour, eye colour,
etc. Why for that matter, we had much difference when Indian Cricket Team was not
accepted by the South Africans a few decades before. To be very precise, as there is a
saying it is not one blanket woven from one thread or one colour or one cloth.

You may wonder why liberated ones (Jnanis) should still doKarma (action). Well, people usually follow the ideal set by those in higher levels. Their acts form the basis of Right Conduct (Dharma). If Jnanis are inactive, how are ordinary mortals to save themselves? They will have no guide and will lose themselves in the easy paths of sensory pleasures. The duty of the wise is to foster the right and practice it before others, so that they too may be prompted to follow, drawn by the hope of becoming as contented and as joyful as the jnanis. The wise have to do and get done, see and show, so that the rest might be persuaded to follow the example set by them. Many children are wayward and vile today, since they have no other examples to follow. Unfortunately, parents, teachers and leaders are inflaming the passions of young minds and encouraging them onto inappropriate actions. Along with Bala Vikas, elders too must experience Vikas (flowering or development), and lead exemplary lives of simplicity, sincerity, and steady spiritual discipline. Children do not say one thing and do the opposite. They are very straight forward and innocent. Everyone should imbibe this nature from them, for elders have strayed far from that ideal. Instead of saying a hundred things, it is better to do one thing properly. Sanctify your life by doing selfless work. For the person who talks a lot, there is no time for work. Instead of wasting time in your words, use your time in service to mankind which is service to God, all the while repeating the name of the Lord.

As Baba say's it is the duty of parents to mould the children from the young,
no sooner they start talking. Normally every child is identified by his/her
behavior. It is very easy to teach good manners, when they are pretty young.
Parents only are totally responsible for this.

When the children observe others and do good things, appreciate and when they
do wrong, we must gently tell them and how best it is done and why. They will
become a good role model if they are taught in a gentle way. It is because,
they learn many things from others and from observance.

Learning manners is like learning a new language or musical instrument. We have
to give the examples of poor behavior and why it should not be repeated.
We must teach the undermentioned things slowly when they are infant :

How to be nice to people
How to ask from a stranger .. Say excuse me, please etc.
When some give body gives some things.. Have to teach them to say... Thanks etc
When someone thanks the children, they should be told to say.. You are welcome
When they meet someone, be it relatives or strangers -- At first, Greet them
When somebody talks .. to be told not to interrupt in between
When someone says some thing ... Have to listen patiently and if asked share the views
When someone asks for genuine help... To be told that we must also help others
When we are to meet someone .. To be told we should be always on time and we should delay
and make them wait for us
House cleanliness .. Advise them about the hygiene and cleanliness

All these are fundamentals. I only wanted to post for the purpose of
general information.

But people are so immersed in ignorance that they are unaware of their own moral or intellectual status and of the secrets of Karma. Such people can be saved only by being inspired by the example of the great. How warm is your body now? It may be about 98 degrees; how did it happen? Because the Sun bears many million times this heat at that distance, is it not? Now if the Sun feels that it will not put up with all that fire and becomes cool, what will happen to mankind? If God desists from action, imagine what will be the fate of this vast universe? The one of wisdom (Jnani) too needs to engage in activity, to remove the sloth and delusion of ordinary men. Dear Mrs Renuka

I am a staunch follower of Shirdi Sai Baba since my childhood. I am now nearing 80 and even at this age I pray unto him
everyday for His blessings . I have had startling experiences in my life when Sai Baba helped me overcome insurmountable
obstacles. I felt that it was Sai Baba who was present in spirits on those occasions. I have immutable faith in Him.
I visit Sai Mandir in Sunnyvale(CA) whenever my sons find tilme to take me there. God bless.

Pranayama is the practice (sadhana) by which you hold your breath (prana). Its significance may be understood when we recognise that there are five different vital airs namely, prana, apana, vyana, udana and samana. The process by which these vital airs are controlled is called Pranayama and this gives inner vision. In Pranayama the three different kinds of stages are Rechaka (exhaling), Puraka (inhaling) andKumbhaka (holding breath). Through Rechaka and Purakaone is able to get control over the various vital airs and take them in. Holding the airs (breath) during the process iskumbhaka. Along with this, Prathyahara, should be observed to attain bliss. The organs and the mind always wish to look at an d concern themselves with the external objects. The mind develops sensuous desires by looking at them. As a result of these desires, the mind becomes impure. Prathyaharaconsists in turning the mind inwards and away from the external objects.

What greater misfortune can there be than to cavil at others' faults and to be blind to one's own; to jeer at others' looks, not noticing one's own ugliness? To have such qualities from birth - can there be a greater sin than this? Is this culture? Embodiments of love! The observance of morality in daily life, the divinisation of all actions and thoughts, and adherence to ideals - all these together constitute culture. Students today do not make the requisite efforts to understand the sacredness and value of this culture. Samskrit, Samskriti, Samskara are all terms which have been derived from the roots, Sam and Krit. Bharatiya Samskriti (Indian culture) is a composite of purity, divinity, sublimity and beauty; not of narrow-minded ideas and ideals. "Lokaa samasthaas-sukhino bhavanthu</ em>!" (May all beings everywhere be happy) is the benedictory motto of our sacred culture.

Everyone has to do action (Karma); if not the world itself will come to a nought. Everyone in the world is bound by the obligation of Karma. Wisdom (Jnana) is the final goal and gain of all Karma; wisdom is the treasure won by one's efforts to purify the mind and to earn the grace of God. What is this wisdom? Through wisdom, you experience that God is present in everyone and everywhere. All are in you, you are in all. You must get this conviction fixed in your consciousness, by means of analysis, discrimination and intellectual exploration. Isolate and dismiss from your consciousness the impressions of the senses, the mind, the intelligence, etc. You must carry out every single act of yours with this wisdom (Jnana) as its background and conviction.

At the first instance, we must intelligently make use of our wisdom without contradicting
our faith or sacrificing our devotion to seek the higher moral values of good things/deeds
in order to achieve the God's blessings for us. We must spend sometime everyday to
chant or sing the spiritual mantras/songs in a Satsung in our hearts. One must try to
aim at a submissive (sober-minded) approach, self controlled, respectable, hospitable,
able to learn from others, not quarrelsome (sidelining the ego) and not lover of money for
rendering the Service towards the God. At the same, guide the Children too the spiritual
truths and interpret it in a righteous method to the elders to attain/inculcate human wisdom and
thus pave the route to have a dream of the image of the God in their minds. All this will
culminate in a fruitful result as Baba tells us to proceed in this material world.
