The world is a structure raised on one strong pillar - ”I". This "I” is dormant during your deep sleep and hence there is no world so far as you are concerned. Similarly before you were born, and after you die, there is no world of which you are conscious. To acquire and stay fixed in this Jnana (wisdom), you must pass through the preparatory schools of Karma (dedicated activity) and Upaasana (contemplation). Dedicated activity helps you cleanse the heart of egoistic impulses. Contemplation helps you to consistently focus attention on the Universal, the Absolute. Then jnaana emerges and stays within you for ever. Once you win that jnaana, you are the equal of the wisest, for there is nothing more to know.

Our ultimate aim must be nothing but an achievement of humility and egoless
state, which can take us or lead us to the path of right deeds. Once we
attain the stage of humility, our attitude changes and in turn, it facilitates
to control our behaviour too. Once we have the right attitude, which is the
primary force or step, we can endeavour to practice meditation, japa, Upaasana, etc.
This activity in turn enables us to reach the zone of "possibility" from the empty
or wandering hearts about "impossibility". It will further give us an enduring
peace and strengthen our energy and eagerness towards Bakthi while
enhancing our passion to get enslaved in the indispensable feeling of sickness
of God.

Just close your eyes for five minutes and think of the profit your efforts have won for you. One wish always leads to another and this goes on like a never ending chain. Initially, you wish to marry, then you get a daughter or a son, after this you desire to finish their education, marriage and the list goes on and on. The joy one gets by fulfilment of any desire is imperfect, limited, temporary and pregnant with grief. The secret to true happiness lies in vairaagya (detachment). The tongue has oil, fat and greasy substances rolling over it, but it is unaffected by these and does not become greasy. The mind too must be tamed to be unaffected by the experience of success and failure, gain and loss, well-being and illness. Practice surrendering at the feet of the Lord at all times; let His will prevail.

There are certain mentionable bad qualities in a person i.e. greed, hatred, envy, dislike, etc.
and these should be wiped out completely if a person desires to achieve something in
one's life. Envy is a form of emotion, when a person looks someone else's quality, achievement
or possession, etc. Similarly physical attributes becomes the main reason for disliking others
besides material wealth or economic status above all other things. Some try to overcome
but are unable to. He/She can't sleep. He/She can't relax and enjoy himself/herself. Sometimes
such people become looked down. Success and failure, Gain and Loss, Well-being and illness
are a cycle of activity that happens in one's life. Vairaagyam is absolutely essential to overcome
all this in one's life and direct the mind towards such activities that lead to good deeds and in addition
one has to get associated in a Satsang so that his mind gets completely reformed and further
fully dedicated activity of devotional practices together with consistent Sarwaswara Chinta
can possibly reform him in his life.

Give up the idea that you are the doer and the beneficiary by dedicating both deed and fruit to God. Then no sin can affect you, for you are not the doer and the deed must certainly be holy. Like oil on the tongue and a lotus leaf on water, the deed is with you, but not of you. Always remember this: you are not the doer; you are just the witness, the see-er! Hence, in whatever you do or hear or see, you must remain unaffected, innocent of listening or seeing. Thus, you can confidently take up all tasks and firmly give up the fruit of your activities, dedicating them to the Lord.

We have a Satsang, where every Thursday, all Sai Devotees meet and pray Baba
for the well-being of everyone. Besides an intensive Meditation Classes are
conducted including silent retreats and Dharma Practices. The main aim of this Meet
is to have free and fair peer discussion at the very Senior Level Members to enable
cultivation of good habits in the minds of new entrants and Juniors and also
arrange interesting lectures to purify their minds. This enables to fetch a good result.
In fact, just like a proverb "practices make a man perfect", we should daily practice
Bhajans, Common prayers, etc, so that it will lead us all into the right path to attain
the wisdom and would also help us to have the vision of Godly features.

There is a general saying that if you treat others with respect and courtesy,
you are likely to receive the same gesture in return. One should always be
courteous to everyone. Perseverance is one of the hardest tenets. Perseverance
is very essential to achieve the desired result in the attainment of God's Bliss.
Next comes the Self Control. Self Control is yet again absolutely needed to make sure
that everyone abides by the rules and they stand as an example to others in
the practice of virtues and good habits. Above all comes the Indomitable
spirit, which is also a pre-requisite with a desire to win over the situations and in
the practice of good attitudes and character with love in heart to adopt the
spiritual practices. In addition, last but not the least, is Humility. It has to
play a major role in a person's activity and attitude. One has to be conscious of
one's own feelings and with utmost care and steadfastness with all humble deeds,
practice the concept of humility to consistently focus attention for developing
physical and mental attitudes with noble actions in the worshiping of God with single
pointed devotion to acquire Jnana. Once this stage is attained, one is likely
to get the Bliss of God, just like the water flowing towards the river from the mountain.

Resolve to master the senses through meditation and follow it steadily, systematically and regularly, at a stated time and place, without changing them as the whim takes you. Do not alter as fancy dictates for that will bring about dire consequences. For those who eat too much and get exhausted with the task of assimilating it, those who eat less and suffer from exhaustion, those who sleep too much or too little, those who indulge in spiritual practices according to 'convenience' (that is to say, who do it for long hours one day because they have no other work, but do token meditation the next day, because they have lots of engagements), those who give free rein to the six inner enemies, those who do not confer joy on parents, and those who have little faith in the Lord installed in their hearts – for all these people spiritual practices will yield no fruit at all.

Mind control is a psychological technique. We notice many people struggle
to have an exercise over the mind control. Mind must always be under
control. Some people take an oath on the New Year Day that he/she will
make a commitment to spare sometime everyday to pray and listen to
spiritual songs, thoughts and perform only good deeds. Though this may be
a script on a white paper, it remains as a script only and if we watch their
performance or acts, one will notice that they are brainwashed by their mind
over the course of a period. If someone talks to them, the mind becomes a
battle field to them. Fear, Doubt, Negative Thoughts, Worry, over and above
all that TV Programmes, some unwanted lectures from kith and kin, all put
together, opens the door for ill-conceivable process to come into the mind.
Thinking and Non-thinking must be totally governed by the will power of the person.
Only then, there can be a claim, from such persons, to have come under the control
and that the persons can say that they are the masters of their consciousness.
Besides, Systematic and regular practice of meditation, worshiping, etc only bring
mind control to seek the blessings of God.

Everyone is after happiness. The hunt for comfortable jobs and positions of influence, the founding of banks and business houses, the growth of bungalows – all these are evidences of the eagerness to live in happiness. But there is no real eagerness to live in peace. Happiness should not be confused with peace. No one rich, well placed, prosperous or powerful has peace. Peace cannot be found in passbooks or iron safes. You can investigate and verify this truth yourself. Peace cannot also be ensured by the piling of bombs and weapons. Mere terror and counter-terror will not establish cordiality and harmony. Realize that the physical is subordinate to the spiritual. The secret to peace lies in service and love towards all beings. International peace cannot dawn until the minds are cleansed of hatred and terror; remove these two evil traits within each heart and plant therein love and service.

We all know that anger is a negative reaction. Normally, anger appears in a
person, when he or she confronts with either frustration, unhappiness or
hurt feelings on account of insulting, etc. An angry person is one who generally
carries the bitter feelings too far. As a result of that, he/she sometimes takes
advantage of the opportunities or chances to create unnecessary arguments and
try to quarrel with others. A hot tempered man stirs up much dissension among
his children, relatives or friends including family members but a patient and quiet
person trys to manage the situation and avoids a quarrel and calms down the atmosphere.
Overcoming anger generally brings harmony and peace of mind. Human tendency
is to avail always pleasures and joy. We cannot mistake with peace to the
happiness of a person as he/she may suddenly provoke sometimes. One should
try to drive away all the ill-feelings and control the physical stature in order to
achieve consistent peace of mind, which will ultimately pave the way towards
spiritual thoughts and practices even if the mind is exhausted.

There is a saying that tamed mind helps to bring a great bliss while untamed mind
produces great loss or unhappiness. For some, mind is like a Computer, where the microchips
programmed to do certain things i.e. sending out the same message over and over again, inspite
of counseling by people. Sometimes there is a reaction like manipulation or denial. Sometimes
one is unable to escape from the fixed thought processes. For some, it gives negative effects,
yet it takes time for them to realize. Prayer offers new opportunity or opening. It is just like
that someone is sitting outside the Sanctum in a Temple while the door is closed in the Sannathi
of the God, i.e. the God is inside and the devotee is outside. Once devotee's mind is concentrating
on the God having no parallel thinking, one can find an abrupt change of feelings in him, once the
door is opened for the Deepa Aradhana, of unimaginable powers. Mind must always be God centered.
One should not assume or imagine that the prayers remain monologue and there is a possibility of
change into a dialogue, provided the mind is in the right direction to get his blessings. One
should have a positive thinking that God will certainly listen to us one day or the other if we are
fully devoted through spiritualistic worships, word and deed besides consistent spiritual efforts
as Baba tells us.

Many of you are drawn to God due to health problems or mental worry of some sort or the other. Know that these are mere baits by which you have been drawn closer to God, so that you may contact Him, receive His Grace and strengthen your faith in the Divine. Problems and worries are really to be welcomed as they teach you the lessons of humility and reverence. Today, the entire world faces many problems. Many hesitate to believe that things will improve and that life for all will be happy and full of joy, that the Golden Age will ever recur. Be assured that Divinity will always be present to protect and establish righteousness, and avert the crisis upon humanity.

We should have an attitude that no matter what may happen and that would
help us to make it to come out of our sins or bad deeds. Faith is the mightiest
and most powerful tool to attain the Blessings of God. We get the real vision
too only when we establish our faith on HIM.

Everyone know that the existence in this world, one has to be dependent
sometime or the other on the help of others, may be relatives or friends.
If somebody speaks harsh, one feel uneasy and try to break or get away
from that place and discontinue talking to that person. Everyone need a sense of
responsibility and a sincere approach or concern for the welfare of others.
Whether people are friendly or discourteous, all are human beings. Therefore,
one has to behave with compassion.

Despite being endowed with the valuable gems of reason, discrimination and detachment, man has allowed them to slip away, and is facing the consequences with dire poverty of the spirit. He has become cheaper than animals because of the proliferation of anger, hatred and greed. People have forgotten their unity with all others, all beings and all worlds. The contemplation of unity of all beings alone can establish individual peace as well as peace in the society and in the world. All other efforts are like pouring sweet scented rose water on a heap of ash - its ineffective and foolish. It is mere ignorance that keeps you away from this task. There are certain spiritual practices which will certainly give us a lead for a
peaceful life. Viz. Prayer, Chanting of Stotras or Slokas or Mantras according
to one's convenience, removing personality defects, if any,; reducing ego as
far as possible, Attending Yoga exercises, Meditation, Listening to ancient
Religious and Sacred Messages of Great Mahans like Sri Mahaperiyaval, Baghavan
Baba, Ramana Mahirishi, Seshadri Swamigal, etc. Above all, the main aim should
be to do Sadhana or Dhyan exercises to concentrate our mind at one particular
point either preferring a temple premises, satsangh or in the house itself, in
accordance with the prefer-ability and convenience. Further, it all depends how
long one can maintain a state of mental clarity and focus on a particular object
without getting the mind diverted. This is only possible through regular practices
with complete confidence. Besides, we can also help our neighbors or people who
are suffering in distress or poverty to the extent possible within one's means.

Dear mom,

When you visit shirdi do not foget to visit sai museum. You will shed tears when you see the dress worn by him. He is the real saint who is a pauper in the morning and becomes raja by the day and again becomes pauper.

I request you to appeal before sai to do something in puri so that people (like me) can have peaceful darshan. Last week I visited puri jagannath. There is no proper system for controlling crowds. People throng from all entrances and exits. Inside the sanctum sanctorum there is always waterlogging and make people to slip. Like cinema theatres darshan tickets are sold in black for e.g. Rs. 25/- ticket is sold at Rs. 100/- ( No body knows when the counter will open and close)

But Lord Jagannaath is glorious and I realy felt peace of mind in his presence and wanted to see him again and again.

regards,
S. Ramanathan

The Vedas proclaim that all this is Brahman (Divinity), one unitary uniform substance, appearing only to the faulty eye as many. You must assert Aham Brahmaasmi (I am Divine); you can then transmute yourself into ‘sons of immortality’ (Amrithasya Puthraah). Since you always say Aham dehaasmi (I am the body), the combination of five elements which will one day disintegrate back into those elements, you degrade yourself into Anruthasya Puthraah, that is, ‘sons of Illusion’. It is this attitude that breeds grief and is the root of discontent. Constantly ruminate on the indwelling God; it will promote in you love for all beings. One cannot achieve the healing of a wounded heart without
humility. Until our heart is filled with Bakthi, Devotion and
Concentration, it is impossible to get the wound healed. Sins
of forefathers also do affect. Ingratitude of Children to their
parents at the old age is yet another injury to be healed.
As we seek a Doctor, Physician or a Surgeon for getting our
injuries or wounds to get repaired, it is one's foremost daily
duty to pray to God to get his heart healed.

Now each one who sees it has their own idea of what it is, though it is really just a length of rope. One steps across it, taking it to be a garland. Another thinks that it is a mark made by running water and treads on it. The third imagines it to be a vine, a creeper plucked from a tree that has fallen on the road. Some others are scared that it is a snake. Similarly, the one Divine without any change or transformation affecting It, manifests in the Universe with many names and forms, due to the dusk ofmaya (Illusion). An incident which happened some years back when Kanchi Mahaperiyaval was
camping at the Mylapore Sanskrit College. All the devotees used to visit Mahaperiyaval
everyday and after distribution of the Prasadams to all the devotees, Mahaperiyaval used to
advice the Organizers to give the remaining good food items to the nearby residential area,
where poor people were residing. One day he went to the nearby Temple, where all the
poor residents gathered and prayed before him for his continued stay in Mylapore itself
stating that they are getting sumptuous food every day without any problem. Further they
mentioned and requested the Mahaperiyaval, would he visit their huts, if time permits.

He smiled and went away. Next day, when his devotees were waiting outside his room for long
time, he could not be seen and they were all worried about his absence in the College campus.
Mahaperiayaval returned around 8 am after visiting the nearby residential area where those poor people
were living. On reaching, He mentioned to his devotees who were waiting at the College Campus,
whether you all like it or not, those poor people wanted me to visit their place. Hence he had to go
there. Further Mahaperiyaval added as we have blood in our body, the same type blood flows
in their body also and that is also of the same colour as of ours. He told that he distributed
Sarees, Dhothies and Dresses to the Children and they were all very happy.
