Everybody aspires for happiness. Where is happiness? Without working hard, you cannot get happiness. During ancient times, people would offer their salutations to action (karma) before undertaking it; they chanted thasmai namah karmane (salutations to action). In India, some people follow this sacred tradition even today. A dancer salutes the anklets before tying them to the feet. Even an uneducated driver offers his obeisance to the steering wheel before driving the vehicle and some cricketers too, pay their respects to the ball before starting to bowl. First and foremost, offer respects and express gratitude to karma before undertaking it. Make it a practice every day. It will then give good results. Understand your duty and perform it to the best of your abilities. Then, you will earn the deservedness to experience happiness.

The very first thing you must do, to impress upon your mind the reality, is to recite the Name of God and dwell on His Glory in the mind. This will ensure the tongue will not stray into lesser topics and the mind will not drag you into inferior matters. Remember, the journey of everyone is towards the cemetery. Every day brings you nearer to your final moment. So do not delay the duty that you must carry out for your own lasting good. Revere man; that is the first step towards reverence for God, for man is prathyaksha(perceptible) while God is paroksha (imperceptible). Endeavour to see the Lord that resides in the heart of every living being. This will certainly lead you to eternity and save you from births and deaths.

Prayer is nothing but an expression of one's own feelings and submission to the God.
In fact, it is an expression of one's gratitude to the God for giving a birth of a human
being in this generation, who has created us in this earthly planet. We should submit
our humility and prostrate before HIM. To be very precise, prayer is the Gate for us
to have an entry into his Kingdom through which we can seek HIS grace or blessings
with constant devotion and Bakthi. Our soul cannot attain peace without proper
prayer and dedicated devotion. Reciting the Name of the God and dwelling on HIS
glory through prayer will ensure us peaceful and happy life.

God certainly listens to our prayers. Through dedicated prayers, one can
talk to God and through dedicated Meditation one can listen to God. We
always turn unbearable worries and problems to the God and seek a solution.
May be an atheist cannot find God. God only tests our mental stature and
does not give us any troubles or worries. It is the ambition and ill thoughts
that bring us bad results at times in our life. God's gift is a worry-less life
and concentration on HIM for a dedicated devotion. For HIM everyone is
alike, i.e. whether one like God or not. We only must have complete faith
in HIM and pray HIM without any reservation and bad thoughts in mind.

The spiritual aspirants in the midst of their efforts sometimes imagine God to be less glorious than He really is! They feel that the Lord differentiates between sinners and saints or the ignorant and the wise; these are unsound inferences. The Lord does not separate men thus. If He really did so, no sinner can survive His anger on earth for even a minute. This truth is known only to the wise. Ordinary people are unaware of this and suffer under the false belief that the Lord is somewhere far away from them. It is the nature of fire to warm you when you shiver from cold. But how can it help you keep warm if you keep away at a distance! Similarly those who are earnest to remove the chills of worldly ills have to seek the fire of wisdom (Jnana), which is won by the grace of God. And that is how a wise man (Jnani) is declared as dear to the l ord.

The Gita describes four types of devotees - Jnani (one who has conquered delusion and attained wisdom), Jijnasu (the devotee who is a seeker of wisdom), Aartha and Arth-arthi (those who turn to the Lord to relieve some or the other form of suffering). This classification can be understood by an example: Jnana(wisdom) is like the ‘through train’, the passenger need not detrain and board another train to reach the destination. TheJijnasu is a passenger who has entered the ‘through carriage’ who also does not have to detrain and board another train; but the carriage will be detained and attached to other trains en route. The Aarthas and Arth-arthis board the ordinary train, and will have to alight at a number of places en route and wait until another train co mes by; they reach the goal by stages. It is a long and arduous journey. But still it can be accomplished if the devotee persists. Thus the goal is attained by all; only the process and the pace are different. All seek the same high goal. Do not limit your desires to the little. Those who yearn for the Lord are generous and large-hearted.

Two years ago, it was my privilege to have with me 75 days at Puttaparthi an old and learned Sanyasin, called Amritananda. He had accidentally seen a picture of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba at Bangalore, on his way to Sringeri for Navaratri. He was captivated by the sweet beauty of that picture and expressed a desire to have His Darshan. He came to know that I was coming to Puttaparthi the next day and so, he sought me out and accompanied me. His plan was to stay for not more than 3 days and then proceed to Sringeri.
Swami Amritananda was 85 years old; he had taken Sanyasa from His Holiness Sri Sri Narasimha Bharathi of Sringeri, during the Kumbhabhishekam celebrations for the Sankaracharya and the Saradadevi temples at Kaladi. He had later spent many years of study and austerity at Sringeri and, as per Sri Sri Narasimha Bharathi's command, spent many years with Ramana Maharishi at Tiruvannamalai. From there he had gone to Rishikesh, Dwaraka and Puri and had spent many years in the Himalayas, engaged in japa and dhyana. He was a great sadhaka and seeker, eager to have the Darshan of great souls and to prostrate at their feet. He had practised yoga too and his scholarship had won him the appreciation of pundit Madan Mohan Malaviya and Bala Gangadhar Tilak.
I was naturally very much interested, in this great person; for he could quote instantaneously from the Vedas, Upanishads and Sastras. He had also a large repertoire of stories and anecdotes of his stay with Gandhiji and Vinobhaji and with almost all the famous religious leaders of our land.
Swami Amritananda was, as I said, anxious to proceed to Sringeri for Navaratri but, within a day or two of his arrival, he felt that Puttaparthi was just the place where he would, like to spend that year's Dasara, with his usual special japa, etc. He described the magnificent scenery from the bathing-ghat at the Chitravati as reminding him of Rishikesh itself. He felt elated and exalted by the Bhajan and, in spite of his old age, he sat through the two sessions every day and never failed to derive supreme pleasure out of it.
Bhagawan gave him Darshan practically every day and I came to know that Swami Amritananda asked Baba a large number of questions on yoga and on advaita, to each of which Baba gave him convincing answers. After each such interview, the Swami used to come to me, with a happy smile, and tell me, "Wonderful! This Baba explains Advaita as no one else has done so far. Oh! I have never met any person who could explain yoga so clearly to me." I remember, one day, his coming to me with unusual joy and he could not but share that joy with me. He asked me to sit close to him and he patted me on my back. He said, "Even if you are offered a palace as a present, do not accept it; remain here at Prasanthi Nilayam. He is Siva Himself."
I was indeed thrilled. "For 32 years," he said, "I have travelled all over the Himalayas just for this Guru and now, at last I have won my race. A girl in that Bangalore house first told me about Sri Sathya Sai Baba Whose picture I saw at Bangalore. My namaskarams to that girl. Having had His Darshan, I know I have no more birth. But if I take on another birth, I shall not forget that girl and the timely direction she gave me. I owe a great debt of gratitude to her."
That was what the 85 year old Sanyasi said that day, with tears of joy streaming from his eyes. He told me that Baba had Himself referred during the interview about the Ganapathi Homa he had performed 78 years ago for 41 days; Baba revealed the elaborate mantram with which the Homa was done by him; Baba assured that, at last, on that day, he had realised the fruit of that Ganapathi Homam; and Baba vouchsafed him a vision for which he had wandered, struggled for years and years.
No wonder Swami Amritananda decided to stay on. I know he discussed with Baba the scheme he had, to construct a Veda Pathashala in the North; he understood from Baba that his asthma was the result of some mistaken yogic practices which he had gone through at Skandaguha at Tiruvannamalai; he clarified some points in the Ramana Gita, (in which incidentally Swami Amritananda's name occurs as Amritananda-yathindra.)
When finally the Swami had to leave Puttaparthi, I accompanied Swami Amritananda as far as Bangalore. All along the journey he was speaking in glowing terms of the Avatar he was privileged to meet and congratulating me on my great luck and dilating the great opportunity for self-realization that I had come by. I also came to know that there was a deeper, meaning to his joy. For he revealed to me that Baba had given him an assurance that, wherever he might go, in whichever place he might be in his last days, He would vouchsafe His Darshan before his death.
I am sure that when after about 10 months Swami Amritananda shoved off his mortal coil at Thirukkazukunram, he must have had that supreme Darshan and he must have closed his eyes with the sweet beauty of Sri Sathya Sai Baba encased within the lids.

Right from a young age, children should be taught the greatness of our ancient culture. They should develop humility, love, and reverence toward elders and respect everyone. Children and youth should be moulded into ideal citizens. One can earn the respect of others only when one first respects others. Respect does not mean merely greeting by saying 'hello'. One should offer their respects (namaskara) to the others with humility and reverence. Na-maskara means offering your respects without a trace of ego and attachment (ahamkara and mamakara). For anything, practise is very important. The responsibility lies with the parents and teachers to make the children and youth adhere to our ancient tradition. Then society will certainly progress and enjoy peace and prosperity. If we practise our ancient values, society will attain kshe mam (welfare), otherwise it will be afflicted with kshamam (famine). Practising one’s sacred culture is the true sign of education.

The real love is God's love. Love envelops attachments too towards God.
It should be a commitment to pray God daily. Everyone comes to God with
a variety of requests. One has to try to embrace participate progressive
culture in determining the ideological divides to realize the reality of God.
Similarly, one should try to unravel one's small minded preoccupations and try
to discover the true potential for Compassion, Love and Wisdom towards our
society and God. If one develops true compassion towards God, HE will
relieve everyone from all the sufferings.

The devotion of the Jnani (the Wise) is direct devotion (Bhakthi) to the Lord, for the Wise cognises the Lord as their own Self (Atma); this state is reached as a result of the merit accumulated through many lives. This devotion is not a stage attainable on the spur of the moment; nor is it available ready-made in shops for a price. It is the culmination of the spiritual endeavour of many lives. So too, if someone has become a Jnani today, you can imagine the years of Sadhana (spiritual efforts) that won for the person that state. The goal is reached stage by stage. Therefore seekers and devotees must be ever vigilant, and keep away from all undesirable traits; they should try to grow in the contemplation of the glory of God and in the practice of morality, eagerly striving to experience the real bliss of attainment. This bliss has then to be shared with the world. That will inaugurate world peace and world prosperity.

Everyone is always immersed in a culture of modern technological advancements and
start forgetting the designated daily duties. Sometimes, one loses the self-reliance
when in troubles or problems. Spirituality is something significantly different from religion
whether one likes it or not. Sometimes one is forced to face the bottlenecks and at
that time only, there is a possibility of thinking about God. Normally, one is fully
engaged either in personal ambitions or fulfillments or job related assignments. Hence
everyone should have to make a pledge for the next day what one should do, i.e.
prayer, meditation, participation in satsang activities, temple visit, yoga, etc. One
should not be pushed towards wrong direction. The body can always be engineered
if one has a stubborn mind and possess intention to attain spirituality or passion towards
good deeds or God. God does not say that one should give up material things just to
pray HIM. One has just to try constantly think of God and his acts on this planet
through various Avatars and make a humble efforts to reach the path of divinity.

Each day, your span is shortened by twenty four hours. The God of Death is said to carry a rope. He does not run a rope factory to drag into his home all the millions who die. The dying person has the rope already spun and twisted round the neck. Each one spins this rope through every act performed during the years of one’s life, now or in the past. Acts done with egoism, self-interest or an eye on the beneficial consequences make the rope longer and gives it a stronger twist. Good deeds done in a dedicatory spirit do not add to the length or the strength of the rope. They give peace and happiness in plenty. Resolve from this day to see only the good in others and to develop the good in y ourselves. This is the best sadhana (spiritual practice).

The grace of god is like insurance. It will help you in your time of need without any limit - Baba.

I beg to differ with Baba here. For Insurance you have to pay premium in advance. God never expects any thing from us. Whether we pray or not his grace is always with us. There is always a limit for insurance.

I get what you mean but sir do not forget that Baba makes things simple for anyone to grasp the inner meaning...hence He has chosen the insurance example I feel.

Ramanathan Sir,

Premium is our bhakti...which we pay....Though he never asks us...As an example this Bhakti too is maExample...it to bhagawan from our heart....Its non -Materialistic thing....Hope you would agree to some extent. Thanks

You just read my mind..I was thinking the same thing that Shraddha and Bhakti is the premium.

Some people might not have faith in God but have faith in their own selves..isnt Self actually God?
So any form of faith in this world is ultimately placed in God knowingly or unknowingly.
Therefore technically there is no Atheist.
