Thank you for taking the lead to post the message on behalf of Dr Renuka Madam. As far as
are Hindus are concerned, Truth is most significant factor one should not only observe but
also follow in letter and spirit. Bharatiyas are known for their self-knowledge and wisdom not
only in spiritual aspects but also have a command over the Vedic rituals too. Dharma, if it is
to be amplified, it has a variety of points including supporting and maintaining justice, social
harmony, vedic rituals, ethical conduct, etc. Of late, we notice lot of differences of opinion
on the pursuit of Dharma with our Hindu folks and slowly adharma starts prevailing in some
pockets. A few continue to dwell in Western Culture neglecting our ancient culture and
practices. Cultivation of Dharma is a pre-requisite for a human to lead a peaceful life and
also live with spiritual practices while having sustained peace of mind. Primarily, one should
maintain harmonious relations with the neighbors and people around us irrespective of fact
that they are friends or relatives. One has to be sure that he/she is on the right path to
fulfill a desire in life and if one derails from it, peace of mind cannot be attained. For some,
when things do not go in their anticipated way, one becomes anxious about the outcome or
the result and leads to the level of distress and sometimes starts hating people around them.
It is thus essential that everyone should follow the Dharma and its principles rigidly.

The same current activates all. To realise this and to merge in that Unity is the purpose of this life in the human body. For this consummation, the seeds of attachment to sense objects has to be scrupulously got rid of. A field may look barren and dead, but the first shower of rain will convert it into a green carpet. The seeds of grass in the soil sprout at the touch of dampness. So too, at the first contact with temptation, the seeds of attachment to sense objects sprout and prevent spiritual growth. Normally, when one prays or worships, it should not be just a mere routine
exercise but it should be done with sincerity with complete dedication on HIM.
Generally, in a family, in the minds of youngsters, a question arises in their mind
as to how the elders expect them to do. Not that, the youngsters do not have
belief in God, perhaps may take it casual but it may not be absolute dedication.
The second question arises in their mind, are they leading a life in the way their
elder's desire or wish or God's dictum. Sometimes, if something happens bad or
not to their taste, they immediately feel to talk themselves that perhaps it is the
will or desire of God. Further, they talk to their mind or heart seeking for an
excuse to the mistakes committed by them. Sometimes, some people become
tools in the hands of undesired or nonspiritual activity people. Instead, if they
devote realizing the need and necessity for a peaceful and objective spiritual life,
the purpose of life will be obtained or attained and would be graciously accepted
not only by the elders but also by HIM. God certainly speaks to some people
which they can feel it in their heart. God always wishes good only to everyone
and HE does the best things only, even during the period of calamity or bad
situations. One can notice, sometimes, people if they do mistakes, they reluctantly
speak or whisper as to how to seek apology from elders or to the God. One ought
to have a feeling always that it is the God's wish and HE does everything good to
everyone even the bad for the God. As one has attachment to the material
world or material benefits, one should also devote towards the God everyday
without any attachment to the outer world at least for a few minutes dedicating
the mind only towards HIM and nothing else that lies in the surrounding.

In 1917, Baba once called Abdul Baba, Nana Chandorkar, Mhalsapathi, Das Ganu and others and started asking each of them: "Do you know who you are?" Each of them replied: "I am your sishya (disciple)." Baba said: "Nonsense! Don't use that term any longer. I have no disciples in this world. I have countless devotees. You do not recognise the distinction between a disciple and a devotee. Anyone can be a devotee. But that is not the case with the disciple. A disciple is one who carries out implicitly the commands of the guru (the preceptor). The mark of the sishya is total devotion to the preceptor. Only the man who says, ‘I have none in the world other than the preceptor,' is a disciple. How far have you respected My injunctions? How are you entitled to claim that you are My disciples? Only the one who follows Me like My shadow can claim to be My disciple. The devotee is one who prays to the Lo rd wherever he may be. Hence, there is a big difference between a disciple and a devotee. The disciple and the preceptor are like two bodies with one spirit. The disciple should have no sense of separateness from the preceptor. He should feel, ‘I and you are one.' There are no such disciples to be found in the world. There are millions of devotees, but no disciples."
On hearing this, Shyam was in deep pain. He felt within himself: "Apart from serving at Your Feet, I have no other concern." Baba then went into another room and called Shyam inside. "In this entire world, for Me you are the only disciple. All others are only devotees." At that moment, Shyam fell at the Feet of Baba, and cried out, "You alone, You alone" (are my refuge) and breathed his last.
In all his life of over 82 years, Baba had never shed a tear in the presence of devotees. When Shyam passed away He shed three drops of tears. The devotees present there said: "Swami! Why do You feel so grieved? All are in Your hands." Baba replied: "Dear boys! I am not grieving at all. Almost all his sins had been wiped out already. By the three tear drops I shed, the remaining sins (of Shyam) have been washed away."
All that Baba said or did was for the good of the devotees alone.
Towards the end, Abdul Baba came to Baba. Baba told him: "I shall appear again and give you darshan." "When will that be?" asked Abdul. Baba told him: "It will be after eight years."
"The first advent of Sai was in Maharashtra. The second advent will be in Madras," Baba said. It should be noted that when this form (Sathya Sai) made its advent, Andhra Pradesh was part of Madras Presidency.

It is a thought provoking article which should be read by everyone. Some people
raise a question, whether a disciple is born with the quality or made or taught
by a Guru in his Gurukula Vasam. But then God's blessing is also required to become a
disciple. In my opinion, stringent conditions should be imposed to an under-trainee disciple
to become a perfect disciple and he/she should have an unquestionable faith in the Guru,
which motivates him/her to become a disciple through sincere learning and dedicated
regard and respects to the Guru, who preaches the disciple to be a model disciple according to
our ancient Puranas or Scriptures. We notice lot of controversies these days in some
pockets. However, the explanation given by Bhagawan Baba herein has to be read by everyone
sincerely between the lines to understand the crux of the points and if one follows that with
complete dedication, it will have a moral impact on the person who desires to be disciple. While a
devotee to be called as a devotee should never get distressed in unfavorable periods
or situations of life and similarly one should not be overwhelmed or over joyous when
the situations become favorable.

Illusion can be termed as misrepresentation of the senses or a mental impression
derived from misrepresentation of an actual experience. Illusions are defined in
different terms such as cognitive, ambiguous, paradox and fiction, etc. Generally,
illusions distort the reality, which is commonly accepted by a majority of the people.
Sometimes illusions are based on general assumptions during the perception
stage. A person sees some object and gathers it, which is processed in the brain
to give a perception, which may not tally with the actuality. A type of sensory
distortion describing a misrepresentation of a true sensation. Change or modifications
of mind and modulations in mind are unpredictable. For example, intelligence
is a factor, which enables to decipher even a complex thing in a trivial or tough
environment. While mind is more contributory and ambiguous than intelligence
at times. Some say narrow minded etc. As far as possible one has to have
a control over mind and try to see that it is unattached in unwanted things.
All these are possible only through dedicated meditation. One has to attain this
so as to achieve physical and mental stability in life.

As Bhagawan Baba says, we should have our heart cleaned and one has to fill it
with truth, pure love and sacrifice to human being as well as our body to the God
in doing service to him. Spiritual discipline is imperative to lead a life of equanimity
of both mental and physical. Spiritual discipline is a tool to seek the blessings of
God and also towards a God viz. salvation, liberation and union (with God). Further
spiritual discipline enables us to lead a specific or a particular way of life facilitating
one to have entire concentration on the God, provided one practices that faithfully,
sincerely and regularly true to his/her conscious. Spiritual discipline could also
make one to develop intimacy with God over a period of time.

It entirely depends on the behavior that facilitates spiritual growth. One has
to engage completely in Dyanam oneself in the presence of God at HIS/HER
Sannathi without outside interference having complete concentration on the
God so as to have a spiritual intensity. Further, one has to completely
surrender to HIM and attend a Satsang and listen to all HIS prayers & Bhajans, etc.
Above all the service done to the disciples of God brings happiness and satisfaction
to the individual’s heart and life. Seniors can guide others the method of praying,
meditation and impart the importance of Dhyanam, Meditation, etc.

Humans are the most devalued entities today; everything else has steeply risen in value. People consider themselves cheap as they do not know their own greatness or worth. For they fritter away their time in paltry activities and petty pleasures, lowering their self-respect and injuring their physical and mental calibre. They do not know the alchemy by which every failure or disappointment can be transmuted into a golden chance for self-surrender and for building up the bulwark of devotion. Learn how to elevate the smallest act of yours into a means of realising the Grace of the Lord. The scriptures declare that this can be achieved by worshipping the lord by dedicating one's duties to Him.

As Baba says, one has to be very sincere and dedicated towards achieving the Bliss
of the God. This needs continuous and dedicated practice every day. Therefore,
one has to practice the art of divine worship and surrender to HIM.

One may think by doing prayer regularly God will come to us. No doubt God will give
HIS blessings to us. The matter of understanding the spirituality doesn't come just like
that in an instant. It is a process which takes time. That is why, in the ester years,
Sadhus were adopting penance, etc. The God has given us the ability to absorb everything
around us including his supreme power. In fact, one can reach the understanding level
once we are enlightened with the truth of HIS existence and one's heart and mind is completely
dedicated, it may not take time to understand the spirit of the Supreme power. In fact,
we can take an example of a child in a school. Some will not get it certain subjects
even when they do it number of times, but then because of non-concentration and total
involvement in the subject. In fact the amount of dedication and concentration while
doing a prayer and chanting of Namas of the God brings us close to HIM. That is why
some people say the dedication of prayer in the life determines the proximity with the
God. We do notice some people talking with God because of their intensive effort.
Similarly, prayer is also listening to God through his representatives, i.e. Disciples.
That dedicated prayer finally gives the enjoyment of the presence of God.
proximity with the God. Prayer is just not simply chanting Namas without
dedication and sincerity, faith or trust in HIM as the child memorizes the
school lessons. In fact, we may not know that actually God looks for our
heartfelt worship from HIS devotee. If this is done, one can be sure that
all obstacles and problems will certainly be vanished as Baba says.

The various forms of wisdom one acquires are all useful at some stage or the other of one’s spiritual development. But by none of them can one escape the cycle of birth and death! Anubhavajnan, the knowledge that you yourself experience, alone can set you free. The teacher can be of some help in the process, but cannot show you your real self. You have to visualise it yourself! For this one must be steeped in earnestness. Sincerity is essential even for the performance of the smallest act in the world – be it a human being, bird, beast, worm, or a virus - all have to be earnest to succeed in their tasks. When there is no earnestness in the act, there will be no fruit. And also one has to be free from vices like envy. The person who has faith in that Wisdom, who is devoted to acquire it, and is full of yearning to earn it, will surely realise God.

Generally everyone asks somebody or other what one has to do to receive the
blessings of God. If one analyzes the actual thinking and concept of the person
that he/she is interested in receiving the blessings of the God, that means, they
are prepared to worship the God in any form or in any way or in any manner that
is suggested to them.
Now if one suggests to them that a sincere and dedicated
worship will certainly bring them the positive result, they would easily listen
to that person and would start the practice at once without any delay as they are
keen to have the blessings of the God. May be some would not have properly
understood the difference between faith and grace of the God without knowing the
intricacy or the relationship between the two.
If one has faith in the God, such
people have to maintain a balance of mind and the heart filled with complete
dedication towards God and automatically, one would be able to understand the
hidden factor of faith and grace functioning together. If some one has problems
arising unexpectedly, they immediately rush to the astrologer to seek a solution
or rush to the temple to seek the blessings of God and would do whatever is
suggested as pariharam to get rid of that problem. Thus it is a sort of belief
that brings in the person towards the God to seek a solace or attain a relief
from the sin that one has committed in the earlier generation. One has to understand
the karma that brings the problems or difficulties and on the part of the person is to accept
what God has already done is not incorrect. However, everything depends on the
amount of faith one has towards God and the Grace must be balanced with faith. Further
one has to understand the basic concept of obedience, dedication in worship, etc to
enable a person to seek the blessings of the God. If something good unexpectedly happens
to someone he/she has to turn to God and thank HIM and continue to believe and accept what
God revealed to him through that event, whether it is miraculous or not. If one has to have
a relationship or nearness to God, there is no other method but to pray, worship, meditation,
bhajan, dhyanam, etc. in the presence of God or in HIS sannathi. If one stands justified
for the favourable results, he should not be overjoyed or feel sorry for the sin committed in
the previous generation. However, one should repent for the mistakes already committed and
should not repeat such things in the present generation. However, if one really needs to have
the blessings of the God, sincerity and dedication towards HIM only can fetch a positive
result.

However the ancient adage says that real and lasting happiness cannot be won by physical happiness (“Na Sukhaat labhathe sukham”). Lasting happiness – happiness that will not be shaken, diminished or modified by changing wheels of fortune can only come by the discipline of the mind, and faith in a Higher Power. The lamp of spiritual awareness has to be lit and fed continuously, so that one’s footsteps can take that path and proceed unharmed to that state of true happiness.

As Baba says real and lasting happiness can not be achieved by physical enjoyments
alone. It can only come through the discipline of the mind and absolute faith in the
supreme power. Normally, one struggles for a higher level of purpose with a wavering
mind to choose between good and evil, as the human mind is vociferous and sometimes
one is influenced by the human society. The thirsty for the good to be a true human
being comes in the mind of a person, only when one suffers in life. The spirit of ego
and desires which rules him/her has to be balanced so as to drain out the evil ones
from the mind in order to gather the real life from out of the good spirits. There is a proverb
that a drop of water forms an ocean. Thus one's spirit is like a drop of water in the ocean.
If a person is in a Satsang and joins a spiritual development phase, he/she
also gets a change in the mind and heart and starts spiritual practices.
This process brings a realization. One have many desires or wants. But
the Universe may not give it just like that or sometimes it may refuse
or may never give to one what he/she wants. It thus makes a person to
become angry and fuels the desire of his/her ego for more in quantum,
with the comparison of what is better, bad etc. while co-relating with others
possessions. This in turn produces the feeling of Self and Self never
becomes happy. If one wants sustained or true happiness one has to become
part of the bigger Self. If that is done, automatically mental peace and
satisfaction could also be achieved. Next comes a person's concentration
towards the spiritual growth. For some spiritual development to take birth or
open a root in the mind and heart, it has to be on seeing the Satsang or living
with the neighbours who practice spiritual activities. If that be the case, one
has to perceive only what is good or right from them before adopting such practices.
Once a person starts thinking or brooding over that point, the voice of conscience
would guide or direct them in the right direction, as a result of an analysis
what is good, bad or right. In order to become a true human being
personal development is imperative and inescapable. God has given birth
to be a human being, which is a rare one in this generation.

Automatically, it would become a challenge to every one and in order to
meet that challenge, one's beliefs towards human being or God, may improve
the quality of not only their lives but also that of others like friends and
family members. With this code of conduct, one's identity in the society
will be a sparkling one and he/she need not to say about themselves. Service
to the Society is Service to God with a true self.

Today, your mind flies about anywhere and squats on all sundry objects in the Universe. Like the fly that sits on fair and foul, your mind too flees from one thought to another. The fly will be destroyed if it sits on fire. So too, your mind will be destroyed when it dwells on God. Know that your mind is but a pattern of desires, woven with the warp and woof of the same material. When Rama (God) enters your mind, kama (desire) flees away. This state is called the death of the mind (Mano-naashana) or the merging of your mind (Mano-laya). Each one of you must make your own heart an abode of peace (Prashanthi Nilayam). Analyse your words, deeds and thoughts. Get rid, slowly but surely, of the evil ones that harm you and others. Cultivate fortitude, firm peace and speak only the truth. Mind always do not stay at one particular point. It starts moving from one end to
other comparing between the good and the bad. Once a person starts thinking of
the God and chants HIS namasmaran continuously, slowly he comes out of material
desires and he/she moves away from silly desires. As Baba says, one has to analyse
the mind and cultivate good habits, so as to differentiate between Good and Bad.
In a general term, mukti is defined as relief from fear, delusion, sadness, pain, etc.
In order to have a relaxation from the above, one has to create a state of mind
to keep away from bad thoughts and bad deeds including unwanted desires. If
this is practiced, perhaps one can proceed towards Jeevan mukthi.
For e.g. we may think based on the advice of some, not to fear think of God, etc.
May be one may feel that fear has gone from his mind and that is not forever,
because he/she has no concentration on the God and the fear again takes birth.
One has to choose a right path like Gita preaches us and one must have to be
very clear about the truth, belief, trust, confidence, etc. The Bhagvada Geetha
clearly explains us the way as to how to proceed shows us the way giving ample
explanation about Karma, Bhakti and Gnana, etc. Once we start concentrating
on God through Meditation, Prayer, Worship, etc and start sincerely reading Gita,
Lord Krishna comes to our rescue and one would be able to proceed step by step,
inch by inch towards Mukthi Margam. Though HIS blessings may not be at a time
but one can be sure it can be attained in stages.

This one , an interesting story on Shirdi Sai baba. For the forum Members.

There are millions of devotees, but no disciples."On hearing this, Shyam was in deep pain. He felt within himself: "Apart from serving at Your Feet, I have no other concern." Baba then went into another room and called Shyam inside. "In this entire world, for Me you are the only disciple. All others are only devotees." At that moment, Shyam fell at the Feet of Baba, and cried out, "You alone, You alone" (are my refuge) and breathed his last.In all his life of over 82 years, Baba had never shed a tear in the presence of devotees. When Shyam passed away He shed three drops of tears. The devotees present there said: "Swami! Why do You feel so grieved? All are in Your hands." Baba replied: "Dear boys! I am not grieving at all. Almost all his sins had been wiped out already. By the three tear drops I shed, the remaining sins (of Shyam) have been washed away." All that Baba said or did was for the good of the devotees alone.

Cheers.

Greetings.

As Baba says, even a small boat can help us to reach the other shore.
One should not underestimate the lamp which was a guide in the ester years
for the people to walk across the villages where there was no electricity.
The light not only showed the way but also cleared all the worries in the mind
directing one towards a determined destination. Now what we need is
absolute dedication and concentration on the God. How do we obtain that,
may be a question mark to some in the present day hectic activity and
when so many tasks to be carried out! Once we are able to concentrate on
HIM through various methods of prayer, may be dhyanam, meditation, prayer,
etc. with sincerity, one can certainly achieve the fete of God's image in
our body similar to one of our physical parts. Rather it can become a permanent
and integral part of our everyday life. Once a person starts praying on HIM
continuously without deviation in the mind and the heart for quite some time
he or she will start worrying, if they miss the prayer any day as if they have
discovered something and that is missing. For all this, there could be only a single answer
that is persistent pursuit. Therefore, one has to pursue the activity of prayer, meditation, etc
persistently so that one will feel the emergence of relationship between him/her
with the God, If he/she fails to do prayer on a particular day, they would start feeling
as if some thing is missing, similar to not able to see his/her father on some days. What
we mean by persistence, a query arises in our mind. It has to be obstinately repetitious,
insistent or tenacious to hold firmly and steadfastly towards seeking the bliss of the God
despite the obstacles or family setbacks. Therefore, persistence is that one must have to do it
without any break, as one works in the office with absolute dedication to obtain
good name and promotions in life or similar to a child to get marks in the school examination.
Now a days, people start questioning about the existence of God at times, and has anyone
seen the God, etc in some quarters. What to do, this is Kali Yuga. But, of late, in some quarters,
we find devotion and devotional activities are on the increase and not diminishing.
While a part of the society is fully materialistic and competitive to enhance the wealth
and pleasures, even raise a question like kaliyugathil aanmeegam oru veppangkaai (neem
tree fruit), do not say pagarkaai etc . However, in some section, while some people even
think of taking a birth in a religious family in this Kali Yuga is a bliss owing to one must have
done good deeds in the past generation.

Some people do Yoga to dedicate towards devotion, gain attachment and affection towards
God. This is done as a matter of Course for a couple of Days or weeks under a tutor. No doubt
all this practice is good. But then one has to have a clear and pure mind and heart to practice
affection without any bias and it is not taught just like that. It has to be inbuilt through generations
or through the environment that makes them to learn it easy. If the elders in the family are religious
and if they do religious or aanmeega activities, automatically, the children would also practice
without raising a question or query. In our puranas it has been mentioned about Bhakti
Yoga and Hatha yoga, etc. Though, it prevails, it must be quite old, some books say before
5th Century BC or so. Bhakti yoga appears to be having a number of forms. There are some
schools, just like Baba Ramdev is conducting these days. They start teaching, primarily about
how to listen to the God, doing Bhajans about the glory of God, Namasmaran daily to make
a person to remember God's name and his presence in this Universe, they also take the
devotees to the temples to render Service to God and to the fellow devotees, in worshiping of
God by offering and chanting mantras through archana either in the name of the devotee
or in the name of the God, then subsequently how to prostrate before the God at the Sannathi
just by the side of Dwajasthambam explaining the reasons, creating a feeling of a bhava and chinthana
in the minds of such devotees, and impart a feeling of Surrendering oneself to the God, i..e .Atmanivedana.

Most people spend the lifetime allotted to them or earned by them in partaking of rich yet harmful foods and drink and indulge in glamorous, harmful pastimes. What a pathetic waste of precious stuff! Though belonging to the animal kingdom, human beings have much more in terms of physical, mental and moral abilities. They have the glorious chance of visualizing their identity with the Mystery that is manifested as this Universe. Human beings forgetting their nature to progress towards Godhood is akin to fire forgetting its capacity to burn or water its nature to wet. Every human being has the capacity to seek and secure the Truth of the Universe of which they are a part of; they have the wherewithal to train themselves in virtue, justice, love and sympathy to escape from the particular to the Universal.

My mother had a friend in Puttaparthi, who had come from Kerala. In spite of seeing so many miracles and mahimas of Swami, she was not convinced that Swami was God. She was doing the chores of preparing breakfast for Swami and arranging the food brought by others to be offered to Swami. She did her job well with sincerity. She was the wife of a high ranking official based in Madras (now Chennai). She had a son and a daughter. Her son went abroad and settled there. Her daughter was also married. She owned a big bungalow constructed on a huge site in Madras. Once in a while, Swami would stay in her house, during His visits to Madras.
Once, Swami had been to her house to attend the marriage of one of her relatives. The next day, Swami got up and told her to get ready to leave for Puttaparthi. She wanted a little time to get ready and so, she asked Swami to give her some time to attend to the urgent matters at home. Swami did not tell anything. He left for Puttaparthi without her. The next day, she came to Puttaparthi after finishing all her work at home. Swami ordered not to allow her into the Mandira. She waited with all her belongings under a tree in front of the Mandira. Swami neither looked at her, nor spoke to her. She waited for a long time and then, returned to Madras. After sometime, she again came to Puttaparthi. Swami told her, “When I ask you to leave immediately, you ask for time. Can you do the same, when yama calls you?” (Swami expects strict obedience from devotees.)
Shortly afterwards, to her luck, Swami took her along with other devotees on His tour of Badrinath, in 1961. In a place called Brahmakapala, Swami asked those people, who did not have children, to perform their own last rites (as is the practice there). Swami told her also to do it. She said that she had a son, who would perform her last rites. Swami forced her to do it by telling her that her son would never care to do such things; only He had to do it for her. As ordered by Swami, she performed those rites in Badrinath.
Some devotees asked Swami why they were not able to see the ṛiṣhis doing penance in Himalayas. Swami said, “The ṛishis still do penance here. But, if you people see them, would you leave them in peace? So, they are meditating after turning themselves into hima.”
She was interested in meditation and other spiritual sādhana right from her young age. She prayed to Swami to let her have darśhan of a ṛishi meditating in Badri. On the penultimate day of their stay in Badri, as usual, she went behind the temple and sat there for meditation. She was sad that Swami had not fulfilled her desire. She then found Swami standing next to her and asking her to follow Him. She followed Him for some distance. Swami pointed out and said, “Look there.” She could see a dilapidated hut with the door slightly open. She went closer to the hut and peeped inside. She could see a ṛishi sitting in samādhi. The ṛishi had very long hair, beard, and two slightly protruding teeth. The nails of his hands and legs had grown very long and they were buried in the earth. She saw this and was frightened. Swami said that he was sage Vasiṣṭha. After coming bac k to Puttaparthi, she narrated this incident to my mother.
After a few days, she fell ill. One day, she felt like garlanding Swami and doing pādanamaskāra. With great difficulty, she climbed up the stairs of the Mandir and went to Swami’s room. She garlanded Swami and as she bent down to take pādanamaskār, she felt giddy and vomited on Swami’s Feet. Swami held a vessel for her to vomit. He then told devotees to take her downstairs and make her sleep in her room. At 1 p.m., she breathed her last. This was, perhaps, the reason why Swami had forced her to perform her own last rites at Badrinath. Swami knows everything about everybody.
