Creation has emerged from God, Who is free from desire. It is a spontaneous unfolding, beyond human understanding. No one can unravel the Divine Mystery. Human activity, however spontaneous it may seem, can be explained to originate from some patent or latent wish or other. But, God's activity can never yield an answer to human enquiry about its why or whence or wherefore.
God is omniscient. He is the source of supreme delight, of extreme ecstasy. The joy flashes as sport, as prank and purposeless play, leela.
God needs neither helper nor material for the process of Creation. His serene, stable, sovereign Fullness can become movement, rotation and vibration, when He Wills. And, all the living and non living entities God projects are led towards acquisition of the very Ecstasy whose overflow they are. God is the paramount principle of Bliss that is not affected by time or materiality, for He is the basis for the material world of time and matter. His Bliss pervades all Creation. That is the way His leela works.
But, created beings are diverse and entangled in duality. If they emerge from the Bliss of the One, how could some be so fearful and anxious and some calm and peaceful? An inference such as this is very wrong; it is unwarranted and unjustified. The Rain God showers his gift on all things on earth, edible crops as well as thorny weeds. The seeds of both sprout and grow in accordance with their different natures. Likewise, the Divine Bliss, Love and Light are the sustenance for all nature. The qualities of head and heart, either virtuous or vicious, decide whether life is happy or miserable, praiseworthy or blameworthy. Good deeds mould men into saints; bad deeds shape them as sinners. God initiates men into innocent, tender, loveable and loving childhood. But men relish envy, greed and hatred and cast off the gift of softness and sweetness. They cultivate instead the thorny weeds. Men seek joy in this Cause Consequence duo.
God has no gain to achieve, no need to project the Cosmos. He has everything; He is everything. He plays motiveless and unattached out of sheer elan.

Everyone knows that mind is always unsteady unless one attempts to exercise a control
over it. Imagination is yet another factor which does not allow the mind to be on at one
point. Sometimes, one fears out of horoscope study of self or family members and its
resultant effects. This is, perhaps, purely because of imaginary fears and by this process
one wastes lot of energy. There are certain important processes viz. belief, reasoning
of an issue, knowledge and faith on that. The mind does not remain silent and it always
does something or other. For some, it goes wild and proceeds with its own sweet will
and desires, irrespective of the fact of the end result. Only when a person attains self
realization, through Meditation, one can attain the God consciousness. In order to
discipline the mind, one should eliminate all unwanted types of desires, feelings, jealousy,
anger or hatred, lust to arise in the mind. If one needs a moral, good conduct of life
with good thoughts, it will certainly be easy to attain the deep Meditation, as the mind
won't wander unnecessarily. Why, suppose, if one questions himself/herself, who is he/she,
why he/she is here, what for he/she is here, etc. then it will automatically pave the way
to have lesser thoughts on unwanted things and absolute desire-less. As Baba says,
control of senses is the only solution to the real Sadhana. Further, there is an example
in Thirukural. It cites an example of a tortoise. The tortoise normally withdraws its
five limbs into its shell at times. Like that, those who restrain the five senses in one's life,
automatically, one will find a safe journey towards attaining the God's consciousness.

First of all one should have love towards the fellow-beings and besides true aspiration in life.
In life, we face many problems without having an idea as to how to achieve a true thing.
Sometimes, it becomes a narrow path while climbing on a hill or mountain, which is covered
by snow or sheathed in clouds. May be at that time, one may have to go climb slow or
there may be a necessity to crawl upon to reach the dedicated destination. For example,
while going to Kailash, with -3 degree Centigrade and less oxygen, the aim is to see the
Lord Shiva and nothing else. Sometimes, the route may be invisible in the fog and clouds.
The Tibetan people are so helpful, not only help us to climb, but also they arrange to cook
our food to our taste. If something happens, owing to less oxygen, say breathing problems,
etc. one has to come down around nearly 500 kms to find out a hospital. One of my friends
told that he has no aspiration at all in life except that he wants to live without any aspiration
and he is longing for only intellectual spiritual aspirations.

God provides everyone energy, strength and temptation to attain HIS blessings, if one
is really dedicated towards HIM through prayer, worshiping or reading Upanishads or any
religious Scriptures, through which his/her mind is exclusively attached towards God.
One must resist on unnecessary or unwanted desires in life. One should serve the
Society sincerely and obediently for the good cause of the people. In fact, one can
serve the Community if it is possible through Satsang. Further, one can donate clothing
or books to Orphanages. One of the easiest and simplest method is to get friendly with
others is talking to them frankly and transparently without any selfish attitude or egoism.
Sometimes, one can try to take the burden of another person, if possible, provided he/she
is able to assist them either financially or physically. By remaining friendly, one has to
share the talents with others through spiritual or inspirational quotes to make that person
understand the bliss of God. As Baba says, if one lives in a good society or in a Satsang,
certainly, one must be able to attain the blessings of God without any difficulty.

Human beings are endowed with memory, as well as the faculty to forget. Both are useful skills. Perhaps, the power to forget is even more important – otherwise people will lament over the loss of millions of parents and kinsmen from previous births, and also the insults and injuries they suffered in this birth. Luckily the power to forget helps with all of these. People often remember only those things that have impressed them as significant – their birthdays, wedding days, their debtors, etc. Tragedy is that people forget the most critical thing about their earthly career – the key to happiness and liberation. Man cannot afford to forget the questions - “Who am I? Where am I going? Where did I come from? What is the nature and purpose of all this?”

Normally Anandam or Happiness is just not delivered to a person by God without making
the person to understand the true spirit of it. Sometimes, one has to go through hurdles
or troubles to obtain certain things in the designated venture. One loses hopes if not
able to achieve it. There is a proverb "Manthirathinal Mangai Kaikkuma" The Mango tree
has its own season, nature and many more matters. Some may say, it is my efforts
that I have done everything to get the Mango. This sort of self-centered approach
should be completely weeded out. These days, one can see many advertisement of the
mango juice as if the same has been manufactured in the Industry, unless the Mango
Tree gives the fruit, how can the juice be made. We the human being are really gifted
by the God, to know or understand the purpose of life unlike non-human being.
If one puts in hard effort, certainly one can achieve the goal, i.e. the Bliss of God.
Upanishads give us ample scope explaining the features of Purushartha (Dharma, Artha,
Kama and Moksha, etc.) Even though the God is invisible, HE can be experienced
by HIS invisible actions or the benefits that one derives because of his blessings,
though the human being may do tom-tom of his efforts and skill. One can derive
HIS bliss only through self-determined approach by prayer, worship and association
of Satsang, etc and also that deed paves the way to have a share of divine nature.
This is further depends on one who thinks about his existence in this material world,
the true of purpose of the life for which he/she is born on this Universe.

When you achieve Chitha Shuddhi (purity of mind), Truth will be clearly reflected therein. For this, good company is essential. Company of pious and holy people leads gradually to withdrawal from entangling activities. When a cold bit of coal is placed in the midst of glowing cinders, and when the fire is fanned, the coal too starts glowing with the fire. The Jnaana Agni or the Fire of Wisdom operates similarly. Individual effort and Divine Grace are both interdependent. Without effort, there will be no conferment of grace. To win that Grace, you only need to have faith and virtue. As Baba says, one has to control the mind, regulate all the activities with a clear
heart so as to obtain the grace of God. Some say, he/she do not think of any bad
things. In fact, thoughts are the real sources of all actions. Further, thought is
the real Karma. Thinking becomes the real action. If one does not think of bad,
he/she gets peace of mind, thus paving the way for the will power to grow in strength.
If one is able to control the mind and does not have bad thoughts, gets perfect peace.
Firstly, one should not try to store unwanted and useless information in the brain.
For e.g. some have always domestic thoughts, office/business thoughts, how to make
money, thoughts of eatables and food, thoughts of maintaining the body to have
sustained happiness, desires and anticipation thoughts, revenge against someone, etc.
Some have drug/alcohol addiction. Some have tension, depression, bad habits like
smoking, tobacco chewing and even illness because of emotional insecurity.
Some may suggest psychological suggestions, which may not bring significant results.
One has to exercise a control of mind and demonstrate to himself/herself to
come out of the above evil deeds. One has to make a humble effort to drive out
all unnecessary and unwanted, useless, unpleasant or nasty thoughts, because
these are the things that makes the impediment in one's spiritual progress or
growth/advancement. All the above problems arise because of mind - resultant
desires that a person has. One point answer to this is - Meditation, perfect
meditation, in other words in-still mind. Further, thinking and non-thinking
aspects have to governed by one's will power through proper meditation and
spiritual thought-prone actions/deeds. Only through this, one may be able
to attain the concept of mastering the consciousness. Secondly for all these
another solution is prayer, worship and association in Satsang. Once a person
adopts all these sincerely, one will be able to attain the Grace of God.

What is needed is control of the senses, not their destruction. To control means, to keep under one’s behest; obedient to one’s will. And destruction means denial of activity, complete inaction. One must keep all senses under control and use them only when the purposes for which they have been devised are to be fulfilled. In your home, you decide and carefully watch who are the right people to walk through the door. Those who must enter by one door should not use some other door. If they do, then that house will have only confusion and disorder. It is wiser to take precautions against such disorder before they enter, rather than deal with the intruders after they have come in. You may excuse the trespass for the first time. But certainly, you must take enough care to see that it is not repeated. That is the better method, though not the best.< /font>

As Baba says, one has to give up all divisive tendencies. "One must
keep all the senses under control and use them only when the purposes
for which they have been devised are to be fulfilled". To be very
precise, liberation is termed as control of the senses. Unless one is
able to control the senses, liberation is certainly not possible. There is
a saying that human birth is a very rare one. Having attained this,
i.e. a rare and sacred birth of a human being in this Universe, are
we not termed as foolish if one is not able to control the senses.
Everyone knows that God is omniscient and HE never vitiates or changes
and is always steady. For this, the true answer is, as Baba says,
real sadhana is the only solution. It can only have control over the
five senses. Everyone knows that Atma is Divinity, i.e. Eswara.
Therefore one has to develop a complete faith, trust, and belief in
HIM and have the feeling Divinity with a code of discipline not only to
live as a cultured man but also to lead a spiritual life to attain Lord's
Blessings.

People are eager to get happiness and when there is a prospect of earning undiminishing happiness, many people jump at the idea. But soon they are tired of the effort required, and seek shortcuts. Sometimes they lean on others to carry their weight and aspire for much fruit in return for very little cultivation. Some efforts here and there, such as listening to discourses or making speeches will not be sufficient. Rigorous discipline and steady faith are absolutely necessary for success in the spiritual journey. You must control your senses, which drag your mind towards the attractions of the external world. To have steady faith, one must control the wayward mind that paints attractive pictures in false colours to lure you on from birth to birth.

As a part of mastering the mind, one has to have the capability to
stabilize the mind. Mind always wanders to achieve sustained and
enlarged happiness. One has to have rigorous discipline, as Baba
says, and absolute faith are imperative to proceed with the spiritual
journey. Further, one has to have a will power to control the senses
too. One should not have attractions towards external material
benefits that appear to a person in general in the Universe. It needs
a special and unique exercise. Secondly, after mental pacification,
one has to increase concentration in meditation, so as to enhance it
and develop it slowly and slowly. Once a person is able to master the
meditation aspect, he/she would be able to obtain all kinds of miracles.
If one has to achieve this accomplishment or success in meditation,
control of mind is the first thing, which is absolutely essential. To
fix the mind on a particular thing or object or image, concentration is
again absolute requirement and inescapable necessity, particularly to
stall the mind from external objects or extraneous thoughts. Meditation,
if practiced regularly without fail, rather a routine exercise, it will be
very useful not only for the general well-being but also to control the
sub-conscious.

If people do not have adequate good education towards spiritual activities,
there is every likelihood for going astray i.e. getting away from the right path,
may be due to frustration or unwelcoming activities. Once a person is able
to enjoy the blessings of God, he/she is driven towards contentment in life
and an unlimited deep happiness. There is an utmost need for everyone to
develop a spiritual understanding. Positive values and good virtues enable
a person to account for a moral education. Besides, it is imperative for a person
to develop compassion, humility, kindness, courage, trustworthiness in spiritual
education, ethical self-discipline, stability of mind, capacity to discriminate
between what is correct/incorrect, what is helpful and harmful, emotional
stability, enthusiastic perseverance, etc. A human body is generally compared
to a good tree. When the roots are strong and insect free, the outer tree
will also be good. Similarly by giving more importance to the inner spirit over
outer aspects paves the way for a conscious development of mind and by
nourishing inner spirits one will be able to concentrate and meditate self-lessly
towards the God and spiritual activities. Some do not find time to concentrate
on meditation and free the mind from any ill-oriented thoughts. Feeling secured
and totally relaxed immediately after the dedicated and concentrated meditation
is a primary and foremost step in guiding the mind towards the direction of
spiritual growth. Hence one needs to build up the requisite moral and
spiritual potentials and get rid of the obstacles, if any, that are preventing the
steps towards concentration of mind in the spiritual activities and dedicated
practice of meditation. A good spiritual education by the environment and also
through great epics of the Seers of our land, will facilitate a person to attain the
God's blessings.

Behind me, I saw Swami with an orange coloured bag, similar like the one of Santa Claus, from which He was taking out torches and distributing to devotees. All of a sudden He looked at me and asked,"Did you get it?" I replied “No.” Immediately Bhagawan took out a ‘burning’ last piece from the bag, small in size compared to the ones distributed, and gave it to me. i was quite unhappy with the size of the torch and said,"Swami, this is not fair; give me a bigger one." Then The Lord responded: “Torch bearers should not worry about the size of the torch but the mission for which they are carrying it."
I was still not satisfied and like a kid started to throw tantrums at Him! Suddenly He rose higher and higher like Lord Hanuman and spread His arms and said, “I gave you this much, still do you need anything?" I was amazed and dumbfounded by this reply! Then finally i got the answer that when we take we may take little but when God gives He gives in abundance! We don't need anything after that. He is indeed the bestower of all boons.

As Baba says, it is a continuous journey through day and night, if one desires
to have the grace of God. If some one wants to have dharshan of Ayyappa at
Sabarimala, a person walks on the uphill, with ups and downs on the unlaid
stony road between thick trees on either side. One learns a lot through the
Patha Yatra to the temple like love shown by the accompanying unknown friends,
during the period of time spent while walking above, makes a person to feel and
thank the God for love and affection extended by HIM. Normally one wishes to
have a companion, during such period, of person who is kind, humble and patient,
particularly who cares more about others than themselves. A person in the life
journey meets different walks of people at various junctures without knowing
each other for the genuineness of support or the true motivation, anticipating
at times to serve as Guides too, towards the goal that one desires to have.
Similarly, if one loves the God with his heart, soul and mind, the more he/she automatically
changes, in his/her journey towards the spiritual activities in attaining the bliss of
God. One should use every opportunity and moment in the spiritual journey as a chance
to grow both emotionally and spiritually with genuine good work towards God to attain
HIS grace.

The condition of mind of a person is just like a Saagar and the thoughts just
vacillate or float on its surface like waves. One has uncountable thoughts that
run through one's head everyday. That makes a big problem to everyone, i.e.
which one to choose, whether it is good or bad and that whether that can be
turned into an action. The thoughts normally float in different directions like a
sea wave, while the "conscious state of mind" is pretty calm, steady and static
in its depth like an ocean. Condition of mind is termed as formless. As everyone
knows, the cosmic law is normally responsible for the creation of life in this
Universe including the chartering the future course of life too. A human being
must not be restless nor wavering in the thought process. Good conduct, actions
make a person facilitating to lead a right path while the bad action has the
opposite effect. Kind actions, practice of forgiveness, etc are termed as better
than a Charity. Thus, one has to teach good habits to the children, how to show
affection to to others, particularly to the affected ones, besides how to love others
instead of envying or having jealousy over others. Whatever the children learn from the
parents at the young age, will have a better effect when they grow. Above all,
the parents should live like a role model to their children, so that the children
will automatically learn good habits, sympathy over others, extension of kindness,
etc.

When the anguish of a devotee’s heart is expressed as a cry, a groan or a sigh, the Lord rushes to the rescue; the Lord is only as far as that sound of despair can reach. He is always on the alert to listen to the cry and call of His children. His residence is within the hearing distance of every cry, from every grief stricken heart. Remember, the Lord is devoid of attachment and hatred. It is His nature to support, nurture and protect the right and admonish the wrong. Suffering is a bottleneck to everyone life. Suffering is the result of one's
past deeds. It may be difficult to come out of that and may have to endure
the pain. Thus, suffering is part of one's life and cannot be avoided. Like
a fellow sufferer, God too understands our suffering. Normally one approaches
HIM only when he/she is desperate or his/her need forces to surrender before HIM.
In fact, God willingly, particularly to those who believe HIM, shares the
pain of those who suffer and relieves them from the pain and the sorrow.
God's grace is available to everyone, but one has to make an attempt to attain it.
There is a quote that diamond cannot be polished without friction. Similarly,
to purify our thoughts and deeds besides to get his bliss, prayer, worship,
meditation are the only methods to approach HIM and above all perform Homam
with Agni, which reaches HIM spontaneously. Hence, one has to enhance the
mental strength, forgetting the problems and sufferings by complete devotion
on HIM. HE will certainly listen to us and extend all help to us.

Renuka,

I went through few pages in this thread. I have not noticed any discussion here. Is it allowed to have any discussion in this thread? Since you are the thread starter, I am directing this question to you. In my opinion, unless we discuss, the true meaning of discourses may not be realised. I would love to discuss. I will not belittle any discourse. If I don't agree, I will leave it as one more opinion. Kindly let me know, please.

Thanks.

Dear Sir,

So far besides me and Bala sir..hardly anyone else contributes regularly to this thread.

This thread has survived the onslaught of others before when it was in the General Discussion Section.

To me this thread is like a Temple which I maintain here along with Bala sir.

I do not mind any discussion but would prefer it in a separate thread.

You can do this..you can start a new thread in this same philosophy/tradition section and copy and paste info from here and we can have discussions freely there.

regards
renu

The Lord reveals Himself through the scriptures. The Bhagavad Geetha is one text from where you can get a complete picture of the nature and characteristics of Avatars (Divine incarnations). The Lord acts as a friend, companion, charioteer, teacher, guide and guardian of His devotees. The Mahabharatha war is not a chapter in ancient history – it is taking place in every human heart between the forces of good and evil. The one who recognizes the value of installing the Lord as his charioteer is certain to win. Others fail to foil the forces of evil and succumb to it. Accept the Lord as your Master. Surrender all activities to Him, dedicate your words and deeds and thoughts to Him as flowers at His Feet – In the Geetha, To the one who surrenders, the Lord assures: ”I shall Liberate You”; He assuages, “Do not grieve”.

Some people who suffer from owing to chronic illness, feel loneliness as
if none is there to help them. During this period, one suffers from pain,
frustration in life, feels unsupported, unloved or alone and even get doubt
about their survival. God knows one's pain and suffering. If someone comes
and en-quire such people, they feel very happy. For example, suppose
there is a sudden change in the Climate, owing to change of place of stay,
the body of that person immediately expects protection from the environment
and climate. Similarly, the sick person too immediately asks for protection
from God, because HE is the life Coordinator, Saver and Protector. By Worshiping
and Praying God, one will certainly get relief. One has to make an absolute
surrender to the God and chant HIS Namas, not ceasing with constant pursuit,
as HE is dependable and can save one's life. Even an Insurance amount takes
little time to materialise, whereas the God's blessing is instant and takes no time
if one has absolute faith and trust in HIM while worshiping and praying with
complete dedication.
