Normally observance of silence is a must prior to the prayer and it is better
to seek a place like Pooja room, where through meditation one can contact
the deeper self and Spirit. The place should be of physical silence where
one can sit quietly, away from noise and sounds. Perhaps, it would pave
a way to seek one's interior silence too. Silence is a powerful antidote.
If one regularly practice, it would automatically increases one's capacity for
contemplation. Further, it facilitates to focus one's attention. One has to
adopt a practice of few minutes silence every day as a daily routine. In
fact, one can observe silence for a minute before commencement of any
work. Similarly one can practice the chanting "AUM/OM" dhyana Mantra daily
which would lead a person to a spiritual sadhana/spiritual practices. There is
a quote to this effect that it is not for the person who seeks only the shallow
waters of spiritual life, but rather for one who strives to realize the actual direct
experience of the depth of the absolute reality. This would sow a seed of
faith in one's mind, though it is little slow in its development. As Baba says
silence is the best spiritual practice to guard faith. Therefore, one has to
without fail attempt to practice silence everyday or mauna dyanam everyday
in the presence of God to feel HIS presence in one's self.
