I suddenly got up from a frightful dream. It was 15th November 1977. We returned a few days ago from Barrankula, a cyclone relief camp in Divi taluk. We went there in knee-deep mud, lived in tents surrounded by corpses, eating just to maintain the body. We spent nearly a couple of weeks. Bhagawan appeared in dreams silently on 3 or 4 occasions. But after returning to Visakhapatnam, melancholic thoughts haunted me. Even though I am accustomed to go to hospital in a car for the past 18 to 19 years I felt guilty of the same when thousands are not having any conveyance. Similarly, I was hesitant to put on a "T" shirt, thinking that many of my brethren are going half clad. The same is the case with food. On top of this, scenes of dead bodies, collapsing huts etc. began appearing in my dreams successively for 3 days and from one such dream I got up suddenly.
I know that I was suffering from 'reactive depressive psychosis'. I thought I must have a consultation with a psychiatrist or write a letter to Swami. I wrote to Bhagavan only on two occasions on purely official matters, which forced on me while discharging the duties of a district President, At that time I was working as Resident Medical Officer of one of the two mental hospitals in the State and treating several people counselling and administering drugs etc. As such I know swallowing a few drugs will improve my mental state without much ado.
Suddenly I went into a reverie: People are suffering from all sorts of miseries from times immemorial. Is there no way out of it? Lord Buddha pondered over it but not many were benefited out of his teachings. So is the case with every religious preceptor. The golden kingdom promised by Jesus has never appeared so far. Are they referring to a different plane of consciousness? Bhagawan must answer my questions and also show a solution. In all probability HE may not answer my letter. As it was my previous experience, I may get the answer in a book or somebody may pick a conversation with me without any relevance and answer all my doubts. So I wanted the answer then and there, remembering that HE is ANTARYAMI and not only Prasanthi-Nilayam-vihari.
Suddenly I heard a clear inner voice ask¬ing me, 'About whom are you lamenting? On whom are you relying to get the answers? And who are you'? Abruptly the three groups - suffering humanity, God and myself—appeared before me commandingly 'You know why all this misery is occurring'? I meekly said 'Yes, Bhagawan, because I feel instead of One, these three as different entities'. 'So when will this misery disappear'? asked the Divine voice. 'When I feel that I am one with God and with all beings, and not separate, then there is no more misery'. I could not help the feeling that Bhagavan is making me answer my own questions, in a vivid manner.
All of a sudden I remembered the sentences of Baba at Whitefield in the interview room one day during 1970. On that memorable occasion HE emphasised that the answers I am getting now and then are not emanating from my own thought process but are revelations made directly by Him. With a mischievous laughter, the voice asked me 'Is this all theoretical?' I said 'No Baba, we are not able to maintain that non dualistic state always and hence this suffering'. Absolute silence prevailed for some time.
From that very moment my depression vanished entirely and I could carry a new sparkling energy for days thereafter. So, let us always be aware of HIS presence within us, ready to give us unerring counsel, May HE bless us all to become that ONE REALITY.

The body is a house, given to you for rent. The owner is God. Live there, so long as He wills, thanking Him for it, and paying Him the rent of Faith and Devotion. A strong will is the best tonic you can intake; the will becomes strong when you know that you are a child of immortality or a person who has earned the Grace of the Lord. In the epic Mahabharatha, the Pandavas are wonderful shining examples of faith and devotion. They won the Grace of the Lord and successfully defeated every single one of the wily strategy of their foes. The reinforcement of Grace from the Lord is the most reliable means of support. When you win the Grace of Lord, dishonour, defeat and despair fade away like fog evaporates before the Sun. Even disease cannot touch you. Hence, I advise you to face life by strengthening your spiritual urges and invoking the Grace of the Lord.

Spiritual strengthening has to be one of the objects of the prayer.
Everybody has an inner life, which does not mean ego alone, i.e. God's power.
However, unbelievers do not have this feeling. Therefore, one has to strengthen
the truth that God is within us. May be that development and strengthening
of spirituality aspects may interrupt with the habitual flow, which forms part
of our day to day experiences. Once the spiritual insight develops or deepens,
one may be able to see the true peace and happiness. Primarily, spirituality
requires attention and dedication in order to develop into a significant and
meaningful contribution. One must actively dedicate the available time and
energy towards spiritual development. Spirituality concept has to be a natural part of
a person. Spiritual practices can be of any method. To be precise, spiritual
awareness really does not require a specific time but it does requires one's
complete dedication and attention. Further, once practice must be disciplined
with complete concentration and focus on the Supreme Power. As Baba says
one has to accept God's acts as HIS handwork.

Practice is the real thing that matters in spirituality. Scholarship is a burden, many times a handicap even. So long as God is believed to be far away, in temples and holy places, one will feel religion a burden and a hurdle. But instal Him in your heart and you feel light, burdenless and even strong. It is like the food basket – when carried on a shoulder, it feels heavy. You are too weak, even to carry it. But sit near a stream and eat your food from the basket – though the food weight has not decreased, you feel stronger and joyful. That is the consequence of taking the food in. Do likewise, with the idea of God. Do not carry it on the shoulder, take it ‘in’! The scriptures teach, “God is verily the Life-breath, of every soul.” So practise to live in His Glory, in His Memory, in His contemplation, every single moment of your life.

Withdrawal of all attachment towards the world and cultivation of Divine Love alone can win it. God is the nearest and dearest entity, but ignorance hides Him away from the eye. The stars appear as dots of light, for they are at great distances from us. Just as the stars, God appears insignificant or ineffective to many, because they are keeping themselves too far away from Him. If some believe that God is not present or visible, it only means that they are at a too great a distance to be aware of Him. The love that God bears for each and every one is unequalled.

Dear Sairams
I have witnessed many miracles during the Bhajan itself like Viboothi, Kunkumam, Honey, coming out of Bhagavan Baba’s Picture.
Sometimes even small Vigrahams found in Sri Sai Padam the midst of flowers used while doing Archana.
All the deity pictures in the pooja room where Bhajans are held are also covered with these Sacred Manifestations.
I also witnessed in other Sai Samithis in Chennai these manifestations.
I also saw Viboothi coming out of Baba’s picture in US, where Weekly Bhajans are held.

But I have never seen any such manifestations coming out of other Deity Pictures, where there is no Baba’ Picture or Shridi Baba Picture;
It happens only where either Sridi Baba Picture Sri Sathya Sai Baba picture is there, and happens frequently.
Even after His Maha Samadhi, I have witnessed Viboothi coming out of His picture during a Sai Bhajan.

From time to time,Swami gives us something called a visiting card. In simple worlds, he manifests a miracle. Swami often says that miracles are for ‘nidarshana’ i.e establishing divinity and not for ‘pradarshana’ i.e exhibition. He points out the role of a miracle in the overall scheme of his plan: first chamatkar, a miracle. Then sanskar, or refinement. Next comes, paropakar, or selfless service and finally saakshaatkaar or the ultimate vision of the Divine. That is, He attracts us through the miracles, refines our hearts and minds with His teachings, and prods us along the path of selfless service which leads us to self realisation.
Swami is like the doctor who gives us the visiting card. There is no use glancing at the card and praising its beauty and expressing awe at the credentials of the doctor. One has to approach him, get diagnosed, take the prescription, follow it and get cured of the disease!

Why these Miracles are not happening with other Deity Pictures when neither Sridi Baba or Sri Sathya Sai Baba Picture is NOT THERE?
Any of you witnessed any such Divine Manifestation from any Deity Pictures when either Sridi Baba Picture or Sri Sathya Sai Baba Picture is not there?

Wish Baba's Grace be with you and Your Family always.

A mother fetching water from the well, will have a pot on her head, another on her hip and a third in her hand, and will be hurrying her way home, as she is always conscious of the infant in the cradle. If she forgets the infant, her gait slows down and she wanders around, chatting with all her friends. Similarly, if God, the Goal, is not cherished in the memory, one has to wander through many births and arrive home late. Hence keep the memory of the Lord and His glory, always with you. That will quicken your steps and you will arrive soon at the goal.

Human memory is a very powerful one and it can recall any event of the past. If so, it can also attempt to acquire divine
memory over the years by doing and adopting various spiritual activities. If the intellect and memory were concentrated
on one single power, i.e. Supreme Power, nothing could be neglected or ignored in one's life. Normally, a person's
memory is very much capable of remembering each person with their proper names and their family background details,
etc. In such cases, why not a person can remember the God and acquire the divine memory power. Divine power has
its own significance if the same is practiced with divine virtues to acquire divine perfection.

The scriptures teach, “God is verily the Life-breath, of every soul.” So practice to live in His Glory, in His Memory, in His contemplation, every single moment of your life. - Divine Discourse

Whether one is rich or poor, the secret of success and happiness in life lies only on true
devotion and prayer. No doubt, the true devotion facilitates in real success in life. However,
it can be measured from the extent to which one has inner peace and mental control
in dedication towards the Supreme Power under all circumstances. The Divine power
if acquired can control all the evil forces of a person. If a person desires to make up the
mind to do good things, he/she will certainly accomplish a good result and the dynamic
divine power. If one is able to continuously dedicate on the divine power, no matter whatever
reverse steps that may get influenced owing to the surroundings or environment. everything
will get destroyed. Normally a human brain will not straightaway look for positive thoughts,
because the mortal's man's brain is easily accessible to negative thoughts and cant's etc.
only. In such circumstances, one must use intelligently the divine power and the will power
to control the mind, no matter in whatever stage he/she is. One has to make up the mind
in such a way that the true devotion does not get diluted and he/she must get involved slowly
in meditation to bring the Supreme Power in one's heart and mind. Success or failure is purely
based on the determination one has to this extent. No matter how many times one may fail,
but he/she must keep on trying to attempt to do meditation and absorb divine power.
Sometimes, the root cause for failures is lack of concentration and attention, because majority
of the people do everything half-heatedly.

The lotus in your heart pines for the Sun, the splendour of the Loving Lord. To attain Him requires effort.
- Divine Discourse, Oct 17, 1966.

One has to tune himself/herself towards the creative power of thinking that God is not far off
otherwise, the life will be spent in darkness only worrying about the difficulties one may face
as also the opportunities getting slipped un-utilized. Somebody may become rich or another
man become strong and some may become rishis or saints. If we go through our Puranas
we can notice that all Great men are men of concentration because they had put in their whole
mind on one thing, the Supreme Power, at a time.We should approach this issue with concentrated
energy & wisdom and execute it to a perfection to achieve the Divine Power. This has to be one's
philosophy in life. Every human being has some sort of power and he/she needs initiative.
One has to have an urge to do things like prayer, puja, meditation, Namasmaranam, etc. If he/she
demonstrates the seemingly impossible may slowly become possible in a matter a few days. Before
venturing into these acts, one has to sit quietly, calm the senses and thoughts and medidate
deeply. If one does that under a Guru or a guidance, one will be able to achieve of spirit of
divine power and interest to pursue the above course of action. If one has faith,
confidence and trust etc while doing puja, meditation, Namasmaranams, etc. one would be
able to feel the presence of Supreme Power.

Today we bid farewell to the year gone by and welcome the new year. We pray that the new spring should confer on all beings longevity, health and goodness. Pleasant experiences and unpleasant memories of the previous year that linger in the mind, contain many good lessons. When one reviews the past year within oneself, one can realise how much time was spent selfishly and how much in service. It is not good to keep quiet when there are people around in the society facing hardships. If need be, you should give up japa and sadhana (Spiritual practices), and uplift such people through service and sacrifice. You should feel that Jana Seva is Janaardhana Seva (service to people is service to God). Those who seek the joy of liberation should burn selfishness in the fire of jnana (spiritual wisdom).

Leading Divine Life has certain practices to be adopted, starting with truth and
purity of heart and mind. One has to be very kind, humble, accept tolerance and
has to have a generous heart to help others. One has to practice good virtues and
act and try to live or lead a divine life. On can join the Satsang and serve the poor
and needy with dedication with selfless attitude. Some can visit hospitals and serve
the sick patients, wherever possible. One should not forget to chant the Namas
of the Supreme Power besides Japa and Meditation. One has to practice to restrain
the senses or indriyas to enable communion of divine life. Prayer has tremendous
influence in one's life. It will produce good results if one does it with sincerity.

If one wants to learn mathematics, he/she goes to a Mathematics Professor.
Similarly, if a person wants to learn Yoga, he/she goes to Yoga Teacher. If one
wants to acquire Divine spirit or Spiritual aspects, he/she has to go a proper
Guru. But one should have to meet the requirements of faith or conviction to pursue.
Devotees are asked to attend Sat Sang regularly by the Guru. God is omniscient/immutable.
The divine decree is a divine idea or thought. One has to have divine foreknowledge
to proceed to attain the bliss of the Supreme Power. Thus, our own life has to reflect
to an equal amount of purity in our divine activity. Spiritual exercises of bhakti
meditation gives the necessaries to attain the true happiness. As a soul, everyone
forms part of HIM. It means the soul is a part of Supreme Power and every part of it
naturally desires its source. Hence, everyone is naturally drawn towards HIM.
To become perfectly happy, one has to do persistent efforts and it cannot
be achieved until one attains HIS bliss. One has to sustain Divine Love in one's hearts
through sustained meditation, prayer, puja, worship, etc.

My most memorable impression of Baba is that He is one of the freest and most spontaneous of human beings I have ever come across! He is not an inaccessible distant and forbiddingly solemn figure. The Divine has incarnated itself in Baba in its most engaging and at the same time its most compassionate aspects. These aspects of Baba were vouchsafed to me and members of my family and a few close friends during an almost unexpected visit of Baba to my residence.
It was an unforgettable experience for all of us. To have Baba so close to us in His beloved familiar form, full of laughter and fun, yet so thoughtful, considerate and loving was at first a bewildering experience. We were dazed for the first few minutes. But Baba soon put us all at perfect ease, and our joy knew no bounds.
It was ananda of the purest kind, overwhelming and indescribable, and we were simply swept away by Baba’s grace, love and benediction. It was as if some very dear friend and close relation was with us, intensely interested in our welfare and supremely happy to see us and be with us. With tender solicitude, He enquired about every one, advised us on a few important problems that troubled us, joked and laughed with us, ate the simple meal hastily got ready and left us, with our hearts full of indescribable joy. Yet the void in our hearts, when He left us, was painful, as if a dear one had left us on a long journey.
The resplendent figure of Baba, in bright orange robes, with a merry twinkle in His eyes, and a gracious enchanting smile on His face, His hands raised in benediction, remains in our minds with indelible vividness, and the sunset hour of that sacred day when He came to our home is still remembered with joy by everyone who had the privilege to have His darshan.
In Baba the Divine and the human are so harmoniously blended. He is the perfect Man, and yet an Incarnation of God. So, sometimes His inscrutability baffles us. He acts on a plane so high that ordinary people can hardly understand Him and His ways. Many people go to Puttaparthi hoping that He will cure their physical ailments. Others look upon Him as a fore-teller of the future. All this, people regard Him as simply a human being who has somehow acquired great powers. Baba often says that His cures miracles, and prophecies are part of His great mission to purify and exalt mankind and bring them to God-realisation. But Baba is greater than all that. To the true devotee, He is the Supreme Teacher and Guide whose love can convert and bring them nearer to their great goal of Self-realisation. Prasanthi Nilayam is a powerful spiritual center where a mighty power of healing and inner peace works without cessation. Indeed, Baba has charged that place with some wonderful shakti of His own, and no one who goes there can remain unaffected by this vast and powerful spiritual force.

Spiritual wisdom just like that cannot be noticed in any reference books nor it
is a collection of certain ideas only. It is also not a product of schooling but it
requires an attempt to acquire it. In olden days, spiritual wisdom can generally
be found with old age people, because by that stage they attain the requisite
potential and knowledge by undertaking spiritual journey or practices. In fact,
they shift themselves from a self-centred point to the concept of Divine power
centered or unselfish acts. But the present day situation calls for energy through
daily practices of meditation, prayer, shaping of the mind, body etc towards
spiritual activities. One has to strive always for excellence in any task one
undertakes, i.e. one has to cultivate a habit completely relying on the Supreme
Power with absolute faith and confidence. One has to develop certain spiritual
practices daily and it has to become a habit in the course of time to become closer
to the God. One has to pursue a dedicated method to attain God's presence by
chanting HIS namas in prayer, bhajans, etc. honestly. In fact, one has to do a
review or analyse the activitivies of the previous three days to judge his/her progress.
Normally one has many concern in areas like career, family, health, finance, studies,
relationships, etc. and the list would become endless. While an intelligent and wise
person who formulates his/her mind towards seeking or developing good qualities,
such as, worship, meditation, etc with good faith and humility achieves the
desired results within a short span of time.

Hence it is very essential that every single child and mother, each and every one of you be devoted to Dharma (righteousness). Dharma is nothing but controlling the operation of mind so as to have
a right living adopting the divine law observing the path of
righteousness. No doubt the steadfast practice of dharma i.e. spirituality
is rather difficult for a person who ventures anew, particularly embracing
the precepts, mainly with an emphasize on concentration i.e. meditation
and spiritual insight. Though it may appear difficult initially to practice it right away,
one has to make a sincere and humble effort. The practice involves absolutely
opening oneself upto and ready to accept the concept of spiritual influence
of the dharma. To be precise, it calls for deepening of one's spiritual capacity
without any limitations through the disciplines of spiritual practices. Basically, the
practice of faith is absolutely essential so as to get an enlightenment. If one
pursues spiritual practice sincerely, it certainly bears fruit, i.e. one sows the
seeds of the faith in spiritual practices. Sincere practice of dharma helps one
to develop sincere thinking of mind and enhances spiritual capacities with
an endurance for the spiritual insight coupled with mental concentration.
Faith and spirituality of the dharma becomes ultimately inseparable.

A little unpaid debt will soon assume huge proportions through high rates of interest; a karma (action) however trite, done with intention to benefit by the fruit thereof will involve future births in order to eat the fruit. The scriptures recommend one to wipe off all outstanding balances of Karma through three clear steps: First, the execution of actions righteously, with the right mental attitude (Karma-Jijnasa). Then comes the observance of moral codes for the upkeep of society and the discharge of one's duties and obligations (Dharma-Jijnasa). Finally, chanting the name of the Lord (Namasmarana) and considering it as one’s primary spiritual practice (Brahma-Jijnasa). Take any name of the Lord that pleases you – the cleansing value, curative value and the sweetness is exactly the same.Namasmarana will make you stick to the thought of God.

If we go by the philosophers of Vedanta, the actual difference between good and evil is not to be
magnified in its kind, may be by the quantum of degree alone, as we find the difference between
darkness and brightness of a light. Sometimes the one which appears as good in a particular case,
may appear to be evil if the conditions slightly change and the results ought to be different.
For example, we take fire i.e. agni. It gives comfort to people who are living in ice-prone mountainous
areas. Rather it is a producer of good and saves the life of people who are loving in the frozen
land. In fact it gives warmth in the coldest days of winter. Similarly, it is very useful to cook
one's food. At the same time, it will be known as a producer of evil when it causes fire and
destroys the life of the people, inflicting injury and loss of property. In accordance with God's
creation, the nature of fire is to burn and this nature can never be changed by us. Similarly,
we can take another example of a river water with powerful currents when it flows. We call it
as a blessings to farmers for their livelihood and suppose if it is extreme it destroys the fields.
So it is for the devotee to differentiate between good and bad and follow the right path in the
life so as to achieve harmony amongst all lives.
