We have the Prahalada Charithram as an example to tell us that God is everywhere.
Normally all people do not analyse every moment unless one experiences the sorrow
and starts thinking of God to get relieved from the problems and starts searching
for a spiritual upadesam. Some people do not believe and they do not care
because they are in the cycle of happiness. Some people do worship and read
many Upanishads and talk about it with their colleagues. Some people do find the
existence of divine presence by joining the Satsang more in silence than due to
distractions of public worship in temples, etc. Each man, woman and child have
a different question in this area in the absence of analysing the light of the truth.
May be unbelief is often due to intellectual and spiritual laziness or may be of spiritual
ignorance. In fact our true spirits of belief determine the quality of our daily life.
For all this confidence and faith is the solution and the basic factor. Realisation of
God means self analysis and understanding the facts in the highest sense i.e.
the conscious realisation of his presence. As long as one remains in ignorance
it may be difficult to get an awareness. To be very precise, the illumining secret
of this is that one must know the concept of his/her existence in this world and
then it will be transparent. If that concept is understood, then they will start
thinking of the Supreme Power, which is lovable, reachable, enjoyable with a pure heart
and peace of mind.

The ancient sages who decided upon the many festivals that we celebrate today, had a high purpose in mind when they did so. They want us to imbibe the inner meaning and use each such day as a step in saadhana (spiritual efforts), as a reminder of the journey which each person has to undertake alone to the feet of the Lord. The festival of Dasara for instance, celebrates the victory of the forces of good over the evil ones which resist one’s progress towards love and light. You must remind yourself that the forces of good are combating the forces of evil in every living being, and if they only rely on the great Divine Force that fosters and fends the Universe, they can easily win and reach the goal.

"God resides in the heart of all beings" says Lord Krishna in the Gita. He is not to be found specially in cities like Amarnath, Kashi, Tirupati, Kedar or Gokarna alone. Just as every drop of the ocean has the salty taste, the composition and the name of the ocean, so too every single being has the divine taste, composition, and the name of the Lord. Only you do not realise it so clearly. The river realises itself by reaching the sea; man realises himself by merging in the Absolute. The space encased in the pot must become one with the space that traverses the entire Universe. This can be achieved by the negation of the attachment, which is just an artificial creation of the deluded mind. The inferior status of manhood that now satisfies you, must give place to the status of Reality of God which is the true status.

Have you heard the story of the rabbit that borrowed from Mother Earth four paisa (pence)? The rabbit thought to itself, “If I run away as far as I can, from the place I received the loan, I will be free from the obligation”. So one day, the rabbit ran as fast as its legs could carry it. After a while, it sat down in great relief thinking, “Now no one will ask me to repay.” The rabbit was shocked, for at that very moment, it heard from the ground beneath, “Mother Earth is right under your feet! You cannot escape from me, however fast you run!” So too, you cannot run away from Divinity. Wherever you may go seeking refuge, the Lord demands good conduct, good habits, good thoughts and good company! Make use of this opportunity, accept this noble advice, select good company and strive sincerely to reach your goal!

A question may arise what is refuge to the Supreme Power. Some may feel that
it denotes a secure future in the presence of Supreme Power's Blessings. One may
await for a better time to get out of troubles. But nothing is in our hand. In order
to understand what it means to be a refuge in times of trouble, one need to first
understand the Supreme Power's existence. One has to firm up their mind with
absolute faith that the Supreme Power will not leave any one unprotected. One
must also understand the Supreme Power's strength in extending a shield to the
distressed. Good deeds are the result of a healthy spiritual life. Good deeds can
create an environment of spiritual power and also to get away from evil deeds.
Practice of good deeds amounts to collection of many flowers, which can be utilised to
make a good garland.

He resounds with clarity, when all is filled with silence. Hence I insist on silence, practice of soft speech and minimum sound. Talk little, talk in whispers, sweet and true. When you want to place a heavy thing on the ground, place it with care, do not drop it and create noise around you. Bend a little, keep it softly and gently on the floor with care. Similarly examine each and every act of yours and see to it that you execute it softly and silently. Transact all dealings with minimum speech and eliminate noise. Do not shout to persons standing far, go near them or beckon them to approach you. Loud noise is a sacrilege on the sky, just as there are sacrilegious uses of earth and water.

There is nothing wrong in a silent prayer so long as we are not doing it
without any attention. Silent prayer can be a relaxed one with repetition of
Mantras within the mind with complete concentration the Supreme Power.
One need not have to do it with an emotion, or thinking about its meaning
or imagine anything else while performing the prayer. One can just feel
as one is breathing, or some count the mantras. One has to adopt a constant
method without changing it often. In order to pray unceasingly or continuously
for a longer duration, it does not mean that one has to do it louder. Concentration
without purity of mind, one cannot make any progress in the spiritual activities.
Even during silent prayer, attention is very essential. Attention plays a key
and vital in the concentration part. If one is able to develop powers of
attention without any disturbance, he/she will be able to attain good concentration.
In fact, one should be able to visualize the object of concentration i.e. Supreme
Power, very clearly even if it is not in the prayer hall. One has to cultivate
a habit of bringing the object of concentration in the mental picture at a
short notice. This is all possible only if a person has a good concentration
without any difficulty.

Be very intentional, faithful to your resolve, every single day. Before you act, deliberate and make a decision. That is better than taking a weak step and regretting and losing the way. In the Mahabharatha, Arjuna had the foresight to pause and think about the consequences of the war even before the battle began. So he asked Lord Krishna to advise and guide him. Hence, take every step in spiritual practice, or in your day to day affairs, only after deep deliberation and satisfying yourself that it will be for your good and well-being. It was a little over two years ago and we had recently lost our two pet dogs within a short time. One was aged fifteen, the other twelve. We decided to give an unwanted dog a home as we greatly missed our two pets. On enquiry at a local dog’s home we were given a list of available dogs. As an afterthought we were told ‘Then there is poor Emma…’ I asked if ‘poor Emma’ was also a dog, and was told she was.
“As soon as we saw Emma I knew she was special. Her hindquarters were very weak. She seemed terrified to move. We were told she had been very badly treated by her previous owner. She could not eat, and hardly lapped up milk – but we took her home with us.
“In due course of time she became a beautiful dog, physically. Mentally, however, the scars remained. If we had to leave her in the house she went hysterical, and would tear furniture, carpets, and even doors to pieces. Loud noises terrified her.
“We did everything possible for her and gave her all the love we could. But it seemed to no avail. She was so psychologically damaged that two years later we have to have her put to sleep.
“We were heartbroken. That night I mentally called Sai Baba and asked Him to let us know in some way if her tormented mind was healed. I fell asleep.
“Sometime later I became aware of a feeling like electricity flowing in the room. I then saw Sai Baba standing there with my dog by His side. He spoke softly to her and she ran to me, then back to His side. He spoke to her again, and this time she sat in front of me and I stroked her.
“I gazed into her eyes and she looked completely calm. After stroking her I noticed all the previous nervousness seemed to have disappeared. Sai Baba just smiled. Then He and the dog disappeared.”
Jean adds: “When I had tried to mentally contact Baba before, He had always replied. I am at first awoken by a feeling like waves of mild electricity flooding the room. Also He has provided the complete answer to whatever problem I am asking about. From these experiences I became convinced of His omnipresence and His great compassion.”

Spiritual practice is one of the methods for proceeding towards controlling
five senses, particularly mind and intellect so as to experience the Soul
within. In fact, spiritual practice energizes spiritual walk of life. Spiritual
practice just does not mean sitting in a place folding the legs or holding the arms
or closing the eyes alone. Spiritual practice needs discipline from the moment one
desires to adopt. It needs complete concentration and contemplation on a particular
object so as to bring the image in front of us with a view to purify ourselves and
also to attain the bliss of the Supreme Power. For this one needs firm determination.
The spiritual practices can be done individually as also with a group of people in a
Satsang. It can be of different types including meditation, studying Upanishads or
chanting Mantras under the guidance of a Guru to understand them in a perfect
manner. Then only one will be able to follow without any difficulty and error prior to
adoption into practice. Physical silence is wonderful for the body and the brain.
By sitting still and calmly witnessing all that arises within our mind, one can
learn to enjoy silence and prayer.

Three fishes lived in a pond. One told the other two that the water was drying up and they should leave before it was too late. The first fish decided to leave the pond immediately, the second said it could save itself when the contingency arose and the third fish ignored it. In due course, the second and third fish were caught by a fisherman. The second fish managed to break through the net and escape, the third one resigned its fate to destiny. God of Death, Yama is the fisherman; unless early notice is taken of the process of drying to which the tank of one's lifespan is subject, one gets caught. Migrate into the sea of Grace, which will not dry; or learn the art of breaking through the net of death. Discard sloth and slumber, denounce fanaticism and make yourself a dedicated servant of the Lord. Then all strength, joy and Grace will be showered on you.

The blessing of God is the birth of a human being. As a human being one is given
a unique place compared to other creatures of nature created by the God. As and
when one forgets HIM, HE reminds us through HIS plays viz. sorrows, problems, etc to
remember HIM and pray HIM. Many people do not realize the amazing grace which HE
HE empowers on everyone in this Universe. Normally one do not play a role of right living
unless he/she reminded of that, though the intention is to live or lead a happy and
joyous life. Only when problems come, one starts thinking of HIM and make amends
in the life to seek the grace of HIM. Some repent or confess before HIM for all the
misdeeds he/she committed over the period including the past through pariharams, etc.
God's blessing is unconditional provided one prays or worships HIM with complete or dedicated
mind and heart
. Sometimes when one observes another person in a happy position or
in a worse condition than him/her (poor, homeless, family problems, job loss, etc)
he/she sometimes makes a remark stating that they need the blessings of God.
Precisely to seek the blessings of God, one should always remember HIM and do prayer,
worship, etc daily in place of worshiping HIM only when there is a problem or sorrow.
In order to be successful in life, one should read our rich scriptures and practice the procedures
religiously so as to seek HIS blessings. One should allot a priority for day to day event
in doing pooja or prayer, etc.

One must develop deep detachment. There is no use renouncing some food or drink, to which you have become bound, when you hear a discourse, or when some religious text is expounded within hearing. Detach yourself from all that keeps you away from God. Spend more time on meditation or namasmarana, for peace and joy are not to be found in external nature; they are treasures lying hidden in the inner realms of each and everyone. Once they are located, one can never again be sad or agitated. With every inhalation, utter the Name of the Lord. With every exhalation, utter the Name of the Lord. Use this splendid and precious chance in your life to the fullest. Live in God, for Him and with Him.

Sense possessiveness is not a good signal for a person who intends to
pursue Divine power. One should not have any harmful thoughts and
also express them towards anyone. One has to try to engage oneself in
divine thoughts and maintain positive thinking to strive for simplicity. Particularly
one has to reject acquiring materialism and eliminate sense possessiveness and
and self reference. One has to develop a quiet and reflective mind and do not
pay much attention towards personal affairs alone. One has to learn the rich
divine thoughts by joining Satsang. Thoughts have to be guarded diligently and
and try to eliminate destructive and negative thoughts. One has to speak less and
love not only relatives but also one's neighbours. One has to avoid imposing one's
ideas on others. Criticism is not a welcome feature. One has to cultivate true and pure
motivation. It is better to regulate daily life in Satsang activities. True humility is
absolutely essential towards the Supreme Power having a divine vision. For this
one has to focus the mind on Supreme Power with sincerity with constant practice.
Mental plane has to be formulated to maintain a constant divine power by adopting
meditation, prayer, worship, namasmaranam, chanting mantras, bhajans, etc
not just for a few minutes a day but continuously over a period of time.
One has to use the precious time for Namasmaranam so as to attain the Divine bliss.

You may not know which came first, tree or seed, but you can easily put an end to the cycle by frying the seed. You do not realise that the end of this cycle of birth and death lies in your own hands. The scriptures and holy books serve this very purpose. These are not meant to mislead you. Hindu Scriptures are living examples for the human being to lead a dedicated life.
In fact, the Scriptures bring the sinners from out of darkness by exhibiting various
examples through Stories. To be precise, they show the light of conscience to
everyone. If one reads with dedication and involvement, it can certainly pierce the
mind and heart so as to enable a person to search for the divine power. As Baba
says, a farmer sows paddy seed in his ground assuming it is a good seed possessing
a living germ. Does it on its own grow and starts yielding? Not at all, if there is no rain or proper
urea to enable it to grow. Like that a good seed should be implanted in the hearts of all
sinners to rectify themselves. One has to select some Mantra according to one's own
choice and repeat it as many times as possible. The mind has to be centered on
that particular Mantra, if required an image can be kept in front of the Meditator
and involve in the meditation and slowly deepen the meditation status. Normally, we
noticed people chanting the mantra "Om" quite often and some even play audio
cassette to avoid distractions. If this is regularly done with full concentration,
one would be able to experience the bliss of the Supreme Power.

The body is the chariot (ratha) of the individual (jeevi), who is the Master. Human birth is the glorious and precious opportunity amongst all living beings. The human body is the castle from which one can fight successfully against the foes of attachment and egoism. It is the boat by which one can cross the sea of change and chance. The realization of the reality within oneself, through relentless spiritual discipline is an arduous challenge – as fraught with dangers and calamity, like playing with fire or duelling with wild animals. Scriptures (Upanishads) have compared the spiritual aspirant’s path to that of a razor’s edge. One has to be alert, vigilant and fully trained to meet all emergencies. Use the precious opportunity of this human birth and leverage your intelligence, discrimination and detachment you are gifted with, to rise above all, and realize the Ultimate Reality.

Egoism brings in a person a sort of arrogance. It spoils the mind and heart too. Normally,
it is called ahankaram. Once it gets attached to a person, then comes the mamatai. It is
a root cause for all evils. It then gets associated with the person in the form of 'mine', 'I', etc.
Sometimes it is due to ignorance or non-possession of adequate knowledge. From this,
one is diverted to false excessive pride in oneself and it slowly fosters vanity, etc. It brings
in enemity amongst people destructing the peace. If one is able to throw out or destroy the
ahankaram, then only he or she will be happy in life. Because it generates unnecessary
anxieties and troubles in one's life. To be very precise, there is no enemy in a person than
the egoism. Owing to this, people easily come under the influence of all bad evils of life,
instigating them to do all wrong actions. One should first eliminate the concept of this body
is mine, I, etc. Even the creatures feel the same thing, which can be noticed in a forest,
when they share their food. If vultures come and eat the flesh, other animals drive them
out. For example, if one starts peeling of an onion, one by one, the entire onion disappears
and nothing remains. Therefore, one has to accept a concept of absolute surrender to the
God by destructing the vision of "mine", "I", etc. through devotional prayers, worship, etc.
besides meditation. It is also said that ego remains an iron curtain which separates a person from
others sometimes even from the Supreme Power. Ego being the root cause brings in
lot of sufferings to a human being. One has to control and sustain the violently and unevenly
moving indriyas of a person. First of all one has to curb the tongue and the impure desires
by eating Satvik food. If one desires to cross the ocean of this samsara and attain the
blessings of the Supreme Power, absolute surrender is the ultimate root. For all this, regular
and dedicated practice of meditation, prayer, worship, pooja, etc are required to be performed
by everyone in day to day life.

Just as the calf seeks the udder of the cow for the nourishing milk, seek the Lord and His Glory in Nature. As a matter of fact, Nature is useful only when it adds to the wonder and awe that it is able to provoke and sustain. Everything is an image of the Lord. That is why joy wells up in you when you see and hear the stories of the Lord, and how He attracts all to Himself. It is the call of the bimba (object) for the prathibimba (reflection) to merge in it. So all are entitled to the merger, and all finally have to attain it. Remember, you have to come to Me, if not in this birth, at least within ten more births! Strive to acquire Grace which is the reward for spiritual practice. And the highest spiritual practice is to follow the instructions of the Master.

One must try to acquire a determined mind to do the best towards spiritual practices.
If one is able to maintain a behavior of acquiring spiritual practices, he/she automatically
may be able to meditate individually or join a group meditation and one would be able to
slowly improve his practices even beyond his imagination. If one is serious enough about
the above endeavor in life, he/she has to be both persistent and regular. For example,
if one wants to be fit enough to do all the work, one has to exercises regularly. Similarly,
if one wants permanent happiness, one can do spiritual practice on a daily basis.
This exercise, in the course of time, would generate faith in oneself and can gain an
intellectual understanding on the concept of Spirituality. Spiritual experiences can manifest the
actual truth. Some do practices in a different pattern. Some do as per their own wish. Some
do as per another person's wish and not on his own and some do to seek the blessings of God.
If ego is dissolved completely in one's life, he/she would be able to have direct access towards
spiritual practices without any reservation. Normally, if a person carry's out any activity
he/she is always aware of the action or exercise and in the process, one would be able
to acquire spiritual emotion and would be able to feel the awareness of the existence of God
or the importance of the Guru who has guided him to do such exercises.
