A little unpaid debt will soon assume huge proportions through high rates of interest; a karma (action) however trite, done with intention to benefit by the fruit thereof will involve future births in order to eat the fruit. The scriptures recommend one to wipe off all outstanding balances of Karma through three clear steps: First, the execution of actions righteously, with the right mental attitude (Karma-Jijnasa). Then comes the observance of moral codes for the upkeep of society and the discharge of one's duties and obligations (Dharma-Jijnasa). Finally, chanting the name of the Lord (Namasmarana) and considering it as one’s primary spiritual practice (Brahma-Jijnasa). Take any name of the Lord that pleases you – the cleansing value, curative value and the sweetness is exactly the same.Namasmarana will make you stick to the thought of God.

There is a say that no one can stop a person who has right mental attitude in achieving
his targets, while no one can help a person who has wrong mental attitude. Some do not
believe in God and they do not put forth their complete effort to attain the divine power.
On the other hand, if some one notices others who are very much excited in doing
something, then the disbelief is likely to change to a certain extent, if not complete.
Normally attitude of a person help to set his/her mind, which in turn sets the tone and
tempo of a person. If one's attitude is positive, he/she is likely to see a good situation.
Similarly, if a person's attitude is not good, he/she perhaps may notice less than good
things in any situation. For all this, the reason is attitude, which influences people.
Spiritual faith is nothing but serving the cause of divine activities. When we visit a temple,
we stand in front of the deity worshiping in an eager as to what is behind the curtain, i.e.
the faith of existence of God.
As the mind is more powerful than the body, the Spiritual
power is also more powerful than the mind. Therefore attainment of divine power will
fetch prosperity, peace and bliss to a true devotee.

A hermit once met the Goddess of Cholera on the road, returning from a village where she had thinned the population. He asked her how many she had taken into her lap. She replied, "Only ten." But, truly speaking, the casualties were a hundred. She explained, "I killed only ten; the rest died out of fear!" Man is Aathmaswarupa (Self-embodied), that is, Abhayaswaruupa (Fearlessness-embodied). If only you know your real nature, you will give no room for weakness or cowardice. This is the main aim of culture - to cultivate mental calm and courage; to make everyone feel kinship with everyone else. You are born with the cry 'koham' (who am I?), on your lips; when you depart, you must have the declaration 'Soham' (I am He), on your smiling face.

Normally, if a person who is habituated to moving around quite often will become restless if
he/she is not able to go around even for short-while. Even if one is asked to sit quietly for
sometime, with a pure intention of relaxation to the body, one can notice the person shifting positions
at frequent intervals may be perhaps to become more comfortable. Suppose if a person is engaged
in concentration of something, then he ends up forgetting about shifting the posture. Suppose if
a person is engaged in dhyanam, then the mind and body gets engaged in one-pointed concentration
because he/she gets absorbed into that act. Spiritual practice or spiritual realization, there
is no other choice than to practice some form of meditation. Therefore, one way of achieving concentration, is
through practicing dhyanam regularly with complete contemplation of the divine power.

When the player beats on the right, the mouse runs to the left – if the left is beaten, it runs in terror to the right. So too, you are running between God and World, reluctant to stick to God and at the same time, retreating from the denials and disappointments of worldly activity temporarily. Namasmarana (Remembrance of the Lord’s Name) will make you stick to God persistently. A lost child, regains joy only when it finds its mother – so too you will attain joy only when you find God within you and merge in Him. One may feel good or bad but neither the good nor the bad feeling affects the
real thing at times. Self-absorption is always a temptation to younger generation.
One’s spiritual condition than that afforded by one’s own inner emotions is not
likely to be very sentimental or pious. The ancient prayer of Gayathri expresses
the nature of path - i.e. the true spiritual path of sun. One has to hold the vision of
Reality in mind as one chants the Gayatri. There are many ways that one can
pursue to have a successful spiritual path. Nivritti is more essential than Pravritti.
Nivritti guides a person towards spiritual contemplation with God's existence as
a core issue after fulfilling one's domestic commitments. An intelligent person
knows that the desires are never-ending for a human being. No worldly pleasures
satisfy a person forever. Once a desire is fulfilled, then another desires rises anew.
Something which is long lasting and unchanging can only give a true satisfaction
and that is Namasmaranam and Bhajans, etc. Some may need several days or weeks
to attain perfection but it is sure that if a person persistently does Namasmaranam
with full concentration, every human being can attain perfection.

They declared that every action must be weighed in the balance and approved only if it cleanses the emotions and passions; it has to be cast aside if it curdles or fouls them. Passion is a part of emotion driving a person towards feeling, enthusiasm, desire, etc.
because emotions are always accompanied with desire. Yoga is one of the methods
through which a person can create personal union with the divine power, through
rigorous disciplines of the mind and body as well. Once a person is able to have access
to the Divine Power, physical and mental involvement becomes minimal. As Baba says
Bhaavasuddhi is very essential. Normally, we wash a cloth completely to get the stains
removed from the cloth. Similarly there is a method called Diksha. It is a method adopted
by a Guru to free the disciple of his mental, physchological and physical drawbacks,
so that the disciple could make easy progress with a free mind in the spheres of
spiritualism, enlightening and helping him in the success of Sadhnas and the realisation
of God. Normally, when the Guru gives Dilksa, a flow of energy takes place from the
Guru to the disciple. Some do it through spoken words in the form of Mantras or subtle
radiation emitted from the eyes or through a gentle touch on the forehead of the disciple
by the Guru through his thumb. Diksha enables to gain success in Sadhanas and Mantra
rituals and could facilitate a person to have the divine glimpse of one's deity.

You have immense capacities latent in you, waiting to be tapped and used. You have many talents that have to be brought to light. You feel the urge to love all beings, and to share your joy and grief with fellow beings; to know more and satisfy the curiosity of your intellect, to peep behind the awe and wonder that Nature arouses in you. You are able to gather information about all kinds of things from all comers of the world, but you are unaware of what happens in the comers of your own mind. You know who is who among all the rest, but you do not know the answer to the simple question, "Who am I?" Without knowing this, people go about rashly judging, labelling and even libelling others! Each one has to ask oneself and seek out the clue to this enigma of one’s reality.

Self enquiry is imperative to understand the inner awareness of ‘I’ or ‘I am’ etc. Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharishi
quite often recommended this question to discover the reality. Once it is understood in the true sense, the concept
‘I’ will disappear and a direction will be available to understand the self-awareness and self realization. One has to
go to a Guru and get initiated by him and then start the process of spiritual activities. Self enquiry is not be restricted
to meditation exercise alone sitting at a place for a limited time. In fact, it has to be continued throughout one's
free or even during working hours despite the fact of one's engagement in any activity and existence and survival
in this universe. We have many scriptures which can enable us to find the answer to this question. Meditation
is one of the exercises which could assist a person to feel changes of a person's personality and to discover
oneself when one is completely engaged and dedicated in it. Some while doing meditation even loose the connection
to that inner fact of the truth. One has to practice to listen to the heart. This experience requires getting to
oneself the feelings, thoughts, actions and reactions. Then one will know as to what he/she is doing. Then
automatically the concept of awareness and consciousness prevails. Slowly one can understand the factor of affection
of love towards God and humanity as a whole. A dedication prayer and worship can also bring an awareness
to this question as to why we exist in this Universe and where do we proceed.

Last Dasara, on the day when the poor were fed, I and few others were holding back the thousands, beyond the gate of Prasanthi Nilayam for over two hours, when suddenly, in obedience to some one’s orders, they broke all barriers and rushed pell-mell to the pandal, to the left of the Nilayam! I was very much annoyed that all our labour gone to waste; but, Baba called me towards the pandal saying “Menon! Go and see that all are seated in rows. I Am coming.” I went to the pandal and was surprised to see all that motley mass arranged in perfect rows. Baba came there in a few minutes. He walked along the rows, and turning towards me, said “Menon! Look at the wonderful variety of ceation!” That was a revealing remark. Those words opened my eyes. Yes, there must have been present in that pandal, at that time, many pious souls, sadhakas, saints, seekers, pretenders, penitents, idlers, idealists, castaways, moron s, misfits, and many other types besides, making up this vast multicoloured panorama of humanity. The scene was not something to be viewed with disgust, as I was prone to; it was something to be watched, and studied with sympathy and discrimination.
A few hours later when the feeding had started and Baba had served with His Hand the sweets to the poor, Himself to each and everyone. I was in the kitchen near the pile of the rice, straightening my back to relieve the strain. Suddenly, Baba appeared before us. He asked me, “Grand, isn’t it?” I replied, “Yes, Swami. There must be at least three thousands.” But Baba smiled and said, “Not that! The Shanti and the Ananda (Peace and Happiness) here now… How is that?” Significant words those two! Yes, they revealed to me my error, in getting disgusted with the noise and confusion all around me. I must have concentrated, instead on the Ananda that the poor got and the consequent Shanti that prevailed in their minds. These were more real, than the noise and confusion, certainly.
Thus does Baba, by a casual remark, a word or two, reveal to the ignorant the significance of things and events. He is The Sadguru, the Supreme Teacher.

One should have a tendency not to blame others when things go wrong and has to bear the
responsibility as one human family and seeing mistakes as a natural part of life. Egocentric
behavior has to be completely driven out from one's mind. One has to search for ample
opportunities to practice spiritual activities with openness and through imagination of studying
various spiritual stories of our Hindu Mythology. Spirituality flourishes only when we do things
over and over again by cultivating a practice of steadfastness. In fact one has to raise a query
to oneself as to why it is important for us to practice and also the need for joining a satsangh.
Once a person is in a Satsang, he or she will have every opportunity to know the methods as
to how to practice. Specific ways to practice have to be understood clearly with patience
and practice them in our daily life either individually or in a group of Satsang, for the association
of Godly features. One has to acknowledge the necessity for a Satsang being a holy place for
spiritual practices, connections, to understand the meaning for an association and attention
to join the journey of pilgrimage, if need be, so as to have an extended exposure of spiritual
activities. Generally, persons these days seem to be addicted to finish everything with a haste,
i.e. hurrying through every activity of their lives without understanding the real gist of it.
There are certain spiritual practices which have to be done with the assistance of learned people
to learn it in the go slow process. As Baba says Grace of God is very essential to everyone
to proceed in the right path to get HIS bliss.

In a running race, the losers, when running neck to neck, prompt the winners to run faster. They inspire the grit, to put in that extra pace which brings victory to the winners. Love seeks no reward, love is its own reward. Even a small trace of greed for gain (vishaya vasana) degrades love into a bargain over the counter. - Shri Sathya Sai Baba

We must sing in praise of God, who governs us, being the Creator, who loves us and who shows
the way to salvation in life. It is said that the glory of God is a silver thread which must run through
our life in all our activities. By doing bhajans or singing his glory through spiritual acts, we can get
HIS blessings, grace and unlimited love. One glorifys God when he/she is an admirer as the divine
nature prevails through the noble deeds, thoughts, and wisdom in search of HIS excellence and bliss.
God worship bring obedience. God honours faith because the devotee has the faith to sing HIS glory.

Sai Ram

All of you are born for far greater things than winning mundane races and competitions. Your destiny does not depend upon a game or an examination – it depends more upon your character, your will power and the grace of God.

Destiny in human life means a predetermined one. Every event or happening that takes place
in one's life is already fixed by the Supreme Power. In fact, the birth of a person is also a
destiny. Man would not be able to disobey the destiny rather he can find ways and means to
escape from it. The Supreme power can create or change the destiny and has also the power
to lift it at HIS freewill/choice on seeing the devotee's condition. On such occasions, the person
looses his ability to distinguish between right and wrong, true and false, good and bad, vice and
virtue etc. Spiritual acts always inspires a person to climb from lower to higher plane. A person
with spiritual thoughts generally dominates and try to change his destiny. According to our
Hindu theory, the formation of man’s destiny purely depends on his Karma. Only because of this
it is said that destiny is commonly regarded as fate; which is inevitable and unchangeable. The
principle of karma is outlined as cause and effect because every action has a corresponding
reaction. That is why our elders were preaching us that we should do good things to others
and follow right principles and not evil deeds. If one adheres good cause, he/she automatically
would reap good effects, and if one does bad deeds, he or she reaps bad effects. Thus
one should follow strictly good principles in this life, so as to get away from bad deeds and
attain HIS bliss.

The instruments that help you visualise the Core that has such contradictory attributes of being minuter than the minutest and more magnificent than the most magnificent, are called Mantras - formulae that save you when you meditate on them. They are also called Tantras (ceremonies and rites) when their practical application has to be emphasised. Faith in the efficacy of these Mantras, in the utility of the procedure prescribed, and in the existence of the Core - all of these are essential for success in the great adventure of acquiring the ultimate knowledge; just as faith in the efficacy of the instrument, in the correctness of the procedure, and in the existence of the material one is seeking to know more about, are essential for the scientist.

We all know that everyone desires happiness in life. The quest for happiness is quite natural.
Happiness varies for e.g. in family life, in natural healthy living, in successful life carriers,
active social duties, sports etc. While some are interested in politics, arts, music, academia,
or in hobbies like drama, philanthrophical activities, community welfare work, attending
spiritual programmes, etc. The thirst for pleasure and happiness is a natural instinct. Sometimes
due to our ignorance of spiritual activities, we are constrained to identify wrong acts without
knowing the value of divine power. Every human being is generally involved in material welfare than
trying to identify the real sense divine acts. In this age of Kali yuga, it would be a best ideal
to purify our consciousness and understand the real spiritual and blissful identify by chanting
the mantras through a Guru. Our Upanishads have various Mantras to chant. However by
chanting the following, one can certainly get some peace of mind.

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Balasubramanian

Mantras have to be pronounced clearly without any mistakes. Repetition of
Mantras is not to be chanted fast or too slow. Speed may be enhanced only
when the mind is in an uncontrollable state. It can be repeated louder for
sometime and then slowly start whispering moving into finally chanting within
the mind dedicating the ishta devata in the heart. Manasika Japa is most
powerful. Meditation on the image of ishta devata while the mantras are being
chanted, it enhances the effects of the Japa. Some use a Mala consisting of
108 beads. Each bead is moved on completion of chanting of a mantra once.
Physical energy is focused on the rolling of the Mala beads while chanting.
Repetition of mantra has a cumulative effect and with continued practice one
can certainly attain the divine power in the course of time. Writing Mantra is
yet another method of performing Japa. However, it requires complete silence
and concentration while doing so. It also helps in gaining vibration of divine
energy. Japa is one of the practices undertaken for realisation of divine power.
Japa anushtanam has to be commenced under the guidance of a Guru. In the longer
run, it purifies the heart and behaviour of a person.

Liberation does not entail a person to reach the cycle of death and moving to heaven or hell.
True liberation means liberation of the individual soul from the cycle of births and deaths.
Liberation is defined as the release of soul from its involvement from Prakruthi or nature. When
the individual soul becomes aware of the true nature, it can gain the freedom and become one
with Divine. One cannot attain this in a short span of time. To be precise, hinduism has not
prescribed any particular method or way to attain the liberation. It only specifies the goal
but not rigid path. Since the God is omniscient, there are innumerable methods to worship HIM,
by which one can attain the bliss. However, the Scriptures have mentioned certain broad
approaches or methods to achieve the goal of self realization, such as Jnana Margam, Bhakthi Margam,
Sanyasa Margam, etc. In fact, Bhagavadgita mentions these as complimentary paths. Path of devotion
is most ideal by practising spiritual activities with single minded devotion.
