Often, in your ignorance, you feel small, you feel miserable, you feel that the wicked, greedy and cruel people are all happier than you and unjustifiably so. You are hurt and feel that it is unjust that you, who are so truthful, so loving, so virtuous, should suffer. Just ponder over this. Are they as happy as you imagine and is your condition, as bad as you portray it to be? Investigate for a minute, and you will know the truth yourself. External appearances are often like painted pots of poison. The hearts of people not adhering to Right Conduct know no peace – they are probably as miserable as you, if not more. Believe that Righteousness will never play false; it will ensure greater joy than can be gained through all other means.

Generally persons who are emotionally healthy would be able to control the emotions and
the behavior owing to disciplined deeds. In fact such people can handle life’s challenges,
build good relationships with nears and dears and even recover from setbacks, if any. In order
to maintain physical and mental health, it requires complete effort. If one is able to do that
it would be a rewarding experience in life. It in fact, boosts one mood in the right direction.
A person should have a sense of contentment in life besides a zest for living and the ability
to deal with stress and get back from adversity, if any. One has to have a flexibility to learn
new things like Bhajans, Kirtans, etc and adapt a change in life by spiritual activities. Self-
confidence is essential to gain and improve physical and mental health by sustained practice
of spiritual activities. Right conduct only can bring peace in life as Baba says.

The 21st December was Vaikunta Ekadashi, a day sacred to all Hindus, a day of fasting and prayer; and the citizens of Trivandrum were delighted when the reception committee announced that Baba would be accepting their prostrations, that day from 9-30 A.M! It was indeed a moving spectacle, the long line of eager men, women and children, coming in an ever lengthening queue, to where Baba was seated in the Thevaram Palace Mantapam and prostrating before Him, with a glint of gratefulness in their eyes and a smile of satisfaction, lighting up their faces! Baba gave Vibhuti, to almost all the ten thousand of them, with His own hands. It was clear that He was very pleased with the cleanliness and godliness, the orderliness and devotion, of those who offered Him their homage that day.
In the evening, Baba arrived at Kovalam Beach, seven miles away from the City, accompanied by the members of His entourage, as well as many devotees from Trivandrum. At a quite spot on the seashore, far away from the noise and bustle of the capital, Baba gave those around Him, the unique pleasure of hearing Him sing a number of songs. Everyone joined in the Bhajan that followed; during the Bhajan, Baba ‘took’ from the sands a beautiful image of Murali Krishna and a gold ring with the Radha-Krishna motif embossed charmingly on it. Being Vaikuntha Ekadashi, Baba also ‘took’ Amrita, this time from His hands! The devotees who sat around Him could sense the captivating fragrance, long before the actual materialisation, and even as Baba was singing a song, He pointed His joint palms at a silver vessel and the ambrosial Amrita gurgled into it from His fingers! Baba then distributed the Nectar, Himself, to everyone pr esent, including a few fortunate fisher folk from the hamlet nearby.
From Kovalam, Baba proceeded to Cape Comorin, the sacred spot which marks the southern-most tip of the Indian Peninsula. On the 22nd, in the morning He strolled on the seashore and held religious discussions with His devotees at the Bungalow where He stayed. Here too, a large number of people from the town had His darshan, and received His blessings.
In the evening, when the sky was turned into a carnival of pink and purple by the rays of the setting Sun, Baba again proceeded to the shore and played with the waves of the three seas that mingle there. Each wave seemed to be more eager than the rest to wash His Lotus Feet, and to offer Him its individual homage! Suddenly, as if aware of the yearning of the waves, Baba stood facing the seas and said, to those beside Him, “See! The ocean is inviting Me, with a garland in its hand!” At that very moment, one could discern a beautiful wave forming itself a few yards ahead and soon, it swept majestically forward towards the group on the seashore. It rolled past Bhagawan, and quickly receded. But, imagine the surprise and joy of everyone there, when, lo and behold! There was a bewitching pearl garland, round Baba’s Feet, swaying and swinging with the waters of the sea! One hundred and eight translucent pearls, the Tribut e from Three Seas to the Avatar Of The Lord! Oh! How entrancingly charming Baba looked, when, at the earnest entreaty of the devotees, He condescended to wear the Precious Garland!

Once, Krishna and Arjuna were walking together, along a beautiful path. Seeing a bird in the sky, Krishna asked Arjuna, “Is that a dove?” Arjuna replied instantly, “Yes, it is a dove.” A few seconds later, Krishna asked, “Arjuna, is that bird an eagle?” Arjuna responded, “Yes Krishna, it is an eagle.” A few seconds later, Krishna asked, “Arjuna, this does not look like an eagle – it looks like a crow to me. Is it not?” Arjuna replied, “Yes Krishna, it is a crow beyond doubt!” Krishna laughed and chided him for agreeing with whatever suggestions He gave. Arjuna responded, “Krishna, for me, your words are far more trustworthy than the evidence of my eyes. When you say something, you have the power to make it so – be it a crow, dove or eagle. Hence, if you said it is a crow, it must be so!” Implicit Faith is the secret to spiritual success. Always remember that the Lord loves, not the devotee but the devotion.

However, the same rainwater’s taste gets changed according to the soil through which it flows, and the container which holds it. So also, the Lord’s words are sweet to some, bitter to others. The Lord’s ways are mysterious. You do not know the real reasons behind the actions of the Lord. You cannot understand the motives of another man who like you has intentions, likes and dislikes. But yet, how easily you decide the motives of One who is far above your level! How glibly you talk and judge something that is as strange to you, as atmosphere is to a fish! All you must remember is that God is your eternal companion and watchman – Live with this steady faith in Him, adore Him, and seek His ever comforting creative presence always.

The Atma it is, that sees through your eyes, hears through your ears, works through your fingers and moves through your feet. This true ‘you’ will not be elated by praise or deflated by blame. If someone carps at you, reason out thus within yourself: “Is he or she casting aspersions on my body? Well, why should I be worried then? Or are the abuses being addressed to theAtma? Nothing can affect its purity, or tarnish its glory. So remain calm and unperturbed.” You may ask, what happens then to the strings of abuse? One should have a spiritual hunger, which emanates through regular practice
of spiritual activities. If a person is able to achieve spiritual hunger, it means
that he/she has the right approach. Some people may be dissatisfied in life
or may be restless at times in spite of their getting all that they need. This
could be due to their participation in various activities without any involvement,
or does the act just like that knowingly. If a person is able to attain spiritual
hunger in life, he/she would be able to achieve true spirit of the spiritual hunger
and the divine power. One cannot attain the real progress in life without the
divine power. Besides, one should have feeling of goodness towards everyone,
affection and love i.e. oneness among the inhabitants of the satsangh community.
If one dedicates himself/herself towards the Supreme Power, God will certainly
bless the devotee owing to his devotion.

You are the Formless (Niraakaaram) come in the form of Man (Naraakaaram), the Infinite, come in the role of the finite, the Formless Infinite appearing as the formful infinitesimal, the Absolute pretending to be the Relative, the Atma behaving as the body, the Metaphysical masquerading as the merely physical. The Universal Self is the basis of all being. The sky was there before houses were built under it; it penetrated and pervaded them for some time; then, the houses crumbled and became heaps and mounds; but, the sky was not affected at all. So too, the Atma pervades the body and subsists even when the body is reduced to dust.

Every human being has to live in this Universe only with HIS divine blessings.
But for his divine glory, one's life would not be fruitful. Once a person chants
His prayer or Namasmaran, through sustained dedicated demonstration,
the entire atmosphere gets purified and owing to the vibration of the Mantras
the vicinity and the atmosphere of that area gets purified. One should worship
the Supreme Power with complete faith and confidence. Through one's prayer,
Namasmaran, Bhajans, etc. one can enjoy HIS presence and glory, which would
be very delightful. Each one of us has the necessary skill, talent and ability. It
has to be used in a righteous path so as to seek HIS blessings.

Jeevan, the Soul has no beginning, nor an end. It is an eternal entity. Normally
we call the Atma as Jeevan. It is a self proven one according to Hindu Puranas.
Besides, it is inifinite. According to our Puranas, it is mentioned as formless substance.
It has not specific form or colour, smell, etc. It is manifested through knowing, perceiving,
joy and sorrow. It is also said in our Hindu Mythology, it has the real power to contract
as well as to expand. It can reside even in a small body like an ant or in any insect and also
in a Rakshasa body, why we can say like an elephant.
According to Gita, everyone
knows that the Atma is never born nor does it die. Similarly, it is not re-created
to come into existence. Since, the Atma is not born, eternal, imperishable, it has
existed since time eternal and does not die even though the body perishes. As Baba says,
the Atma is ever-existing, it pervades the body, despite its reduction to dust. Shri
Parabrahma Purushotama Bhagwan has clearly explained the features and the distinction
between the body and the Atma to Arjuna.

I do not think there is any necessity for Guru Upadesam to chant the Nama
of the Supreme Power. Only for certain Japas, initiation is essential from a Guru
to chant. One can simply chant. /images/graemlins/smile.gif One
should not waste time in doing this act, as life is too short in Kali Yuga. Anyone
can chant Hare Rama Hare Rama Hare Hare, Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna
Krishna Hare Hare. One can watch Shri Muralidhara Swamigal chanting this. There
is a book titled as Mathura Murali, being released by the Swamigal's Ashram,
wherein one would get plenty of information about the significance of Namasmaranam.
Anugraha Bhashanam of Shri Shri Bharathee Theertha Mahaswamigal has quite
a number of times emphasized the need for Namasmaranam just like Shri Baba.
Namasmaranam brings in healthy life.

You have come into the world to realise yourselves. You come fully equipped with all the instruments needed for that endeavour - viveka, vairaagya and vichakshana (discrimination, non-attachment and skill); and the urge to enlarge your love, enrich your emotions and ennoble your actions. But you have lost your way; you are caught in a morass and are confused by mirages and dreams which you take as real; you run after false colours and cheap substitutes. Remember that everything is subordinated to that supreme task. The body should be fed and kept free from disease. Why? So that it may be fit for spiritual discipline. Spiritual discipline for what? For the realisation of the truth about oneself. The subtle is the basis for the gross; the Divine is the basis for the Human.

- Divine Discourse, Feb 20, 1964.

A person should possess basic human values viz. truth, confidence, righteousness, love & affection to fellow beings and conduct of peaceful methods. Righteousness is a key area for proceeding with Dharma, because one has to follow certain practices according to Divine procedures, i.e. laid down moral conduct and procedure in our Puranas. One has to basically understand the values of spiritual purpose and its basic deeds besides the essential divine routine activities. One has to follow the right path in one's life to the extent possible. Practices make one a better person whether one has spiritual vision or not. Meditative practices cultivate an internal shift in a person from a lower order self i.e. always preoccupied with self-centered needs and desires to a higher order of divine power. Slowly one comes out of ignorance and starts understanding the divine power and necessity for divine activities in one's life. One's sensory systems start adopting new methods in course of time. Besides, if one listens to pravachanams self thoughts and deeds get altered in the right direction and starts thinking about sentimentally the actual needs towards spiritual exercises. One gets an experience of consciousness of practicing spiritual exercises daily and in fact one's behaviour changes slowly and slowly.

God draws the individual towards Himself. It is the nature of both to have this mutual affinity; they are just like the iron and magnet. But if the iron is rusty, covered with layers of dirt, the magnet is unable to attract. Remove the impurities, then you will shine forth in your real nature and the Lord will draw you unto Him. Spiritual practices (Sadhana) should result in inner as well as external cleanliness. You do not feel refreshed if you wear unwashed clothes after your bath. Nor do you feel clean if you wear washed clothes, but skip taking bath. Hence, both are needed – the baahya (external) and the bhaava (internal). Trials and tribulations are the means by which this cleansing is done. They are like the dietary and other restrictions prescribed to supplement the effect of the drug of Namasmarana (remembrance of God).

One gets angry very easily even for silly reasons and it is an unhealthy habit.
It enhances the stress levels and also creates negative impacts
with relatives, family or friends and as a result the relationship gets spoiled.
Normally one does not analyse the reason for the problem instantly which
results in an angry moment. Either one has to be in the company of someone
who likes him or her or with whom one has an affectionate love to get absorbed
or devote the time in reading either good spiritual books or slokas. Therefore one
needs to recognize cause of an anger management problem and solution to this is
spiritual Sadhana. Peace is a divine attribute. One cannot buy peace in money,
acquiring wealth or any possessions. Peace normally does not dwell in outwardly
material things which are only temporary in nature but peace within the soul is
a sustained one. Peace has to be a lasting and a constructive one which can
only be achieved through Spiritual Sadhanas. Therefore without spiritual practices,
meditation, prayer, etc, one cannot attain peace so easily when a person is in a dire
need of that.

There was a princess who was very pious, immersed in the contemplation of the glory of God; her father sought in all the quarters for a suitable partner for her, but, could not find one. Of course, many princes competed for her hand, but, they were all worldly minded and fond of royal luxury and the father knew that his daughter would not be happy with such a partner. At last, the king heard of a young mendicant, a devoted servant of the Lord, whose face shone with inner joy.
When the king met him he pleaded that he was too poor to confer any happiness on the princess, that he lived in a little hut, that he had barely three paise with him and that he would not receive anything from others. The king was overjoyed at his piety and the marriage was celebrated with three paise only, to the satisfaction of the groom and the bride and the king.
When the princess went into the hut to share her life with the mendicant, she was surprised to find on an earthen plate a bit of bread! She asked her husband why it was kept there and he promptly replied, “I felt it could be put to use today and so, I kept it on that plate yesterday.” On hearing this, the princess said, “Then, I have no place in this hut with you. I shall return to the palace where I came from.” The husband was very much confused at her behaviour, which appeared strange. He asked why the bit of bread should so upset her. She replied, “That bit of bread proves that your faith in providence is not rooted deep; The Lord Who provided for you so far, will He not feed for you this day too? Why this doubt, this hesitation about His mercy, His love and His care? Either this bit of bread that is kept for another day must go or I must go out of this hut,” she said.
The husband had his eyes opened by her remarks; he caught hold of her hands and pleaded her to remain as his guru, teaching him lessons on faith and devotion. He thanked her for her advice and promised to mend his ways. They lived together happily, encouraging each other in the path of sadhana, until they realised the limitless glory of God of which they were themselves minute expressions.

The Lord is a Mountain of Love. Any number of ants carrying away particles of sweetness cannot exhaust His plenty. He is an Ocean of Mercy without a limiting shore. And devotion is the easiest way to win His Grace and also to realize that He pervades everything; in fact, He is everything! Sharanagathi (total surrender) or leaving everything to His Will, is the highest form of devotion. Devotion and the attitude of surrender, which is its final fruit, will give you great courage to meet any emergency; such courage is what is called Renunciation. When Devotion is just emerging as a sapling, a fence is needed to protect the tender plant. That fence is religion and its rules, restrictions, directions and commands.

Generally Practices of devotion and worship are usually associated with surrender to God.
While following this practice, one becomes aware of his/her responsibility for thoughts and actions.
The practices of devotion, prayer, worship, etc. involved thinking of God or meditating on God
either at the own initiative of Self or through the Guru's guidance. Repeatedly chanting
HIS nama visualizing His form would be great act. Once this is done with devotion then the
mind would automatically become absorbed in the object of meditation. Self enquiry and
Self realization are essential for surrender to the God. Complete surrender is nothing but
acquiring Jnana or liberation. As Baba says, one should do it without ego.
