Learn when you are young how to succeed in the turmoil of life, how to live without causing pain to others and suffering pain yourself. Everyone should cooperate and work with love and devotion. Tolerate all kinds of persons and opinions, all attitudes and peculiarities. Difference of opinion amongst people must be perceived and resolved like the two eyes, each giving a different picture of the same object; both of which when co-ordinated, gives a complete rounded picture. Examine everything you hear, and believe only what appeals to you as correct.

All are equal before God. Every individual or person has the necessary potential to
achieve the greatness in life and indeed such people only need to be guided in the right
direction. No one should assess himself/herself as unimportant or unworthy in this
Universe. Here comes the need for a Guru who guides or enables the person to
take them in the right direction to pass through the divine ocean. In fact, the
Supreme Power gives everyone an equal opportunity, blessings, talent and strength
to assess their weaknesses and also the time and resources to pursue the right deed
or act. Whoever believes Him with confidence and trust and rigidly follow the
spiritual activities attain the blessings much earlier than the unbelievers. Therefore,
one should treat every one equal without any bias and give the necessary opportunity
whether he is rich or poor in the community and one should not assess from the point
of socio-economic status, i.e.treating everyone equally without any discrimination
and serving their causes if need be. One has to assess clearly between the good and bad
and find out the true information so as to ensure that one is doing the correct thing.

This statue of Krishna, made of gold, was materialized by Sai Baba in 1968, when Sai Baba was 42 years old. Krishna, a poorna (full) Avatar, was born July 20th, 3228 B.C. and is known world-wide for telling the story which is the Bhagavad Gita, the story of the triumph of good over evil. This story was about a real war between the Pandavas (good guys) and the Kauravas (bad guys) who were cousins. The battlefield on which they fought, called the Kurukshetra, is both real and allegorical. As a psychiatrist, I see this inner battle going on in many people I treat. This picture was taken by Ratan Lal on May 15, 1968. The event took place near Dwaraka, where Krishna lived, which is on the west coast of India, about 325 miles northwest of Bombay. The description of this event is given by N. Kasturi in Sathyam Sivaram Sundaram, Part III, on page 183-184. To paraphrase:

People suffer because they have all kinds of unreasonable desires and they pine to fulfil them and fail miserably. They attach too much value to the objective world. It is only when attachment increases that you suffer pain and grief. If you look upon the world and all its created objects with the insight derived from the inner vision, the attachment will fade away; you will see everything much clearer, with the Divine glory suffused in its Splendour. Close your external eyes and open your inner eyes – see what a beautiful grand vision emerges from within you, as you go through your daily life. Attachment to the world has limits, but the attachment to the Lord that you develop when your inner eye opens has no limit. Enjoy that Reality, not this false picture from your external eyes.

One has to understand that the Supreme Power is Sovereign and but for HIM
our desires have no sign of fruitful results. Still some people have a doubt about the
existence of the Supreme Power. God's desires come to us whether one
likes it or not. There is a quote Man Proposes God disposes. Worrying without
thinking about HIM, only brings downfall to a person. Nothing can happen to us
in our lives apart from HIS desires. If one comes to know HIS Supreme Power,
he/she automatically will fall on HIS feet and would bring the mind and heart
under complete control without giving any room for any silly and unwanted
desires, which in turn brings peace and happiness to those who absolutely
trust HIM always. Once the faith falls on HIM, HE removes the burden and worry
of everyone even without the knowledge of the devotee. Evil intentions and bad
desires have to be absolutely washed away from one's desires. Sometimes false
mindset leads a person to a wrong path. There is yet another quote i.e.
the Supreme Power owns what he formulates and HE is empowered with what HE owns.
Thus human being has no role to play whatever may be his status in this Universe.

It is a very famous quote -
“A true friend is he who walks in when the world walks out on you.” This proverb does not apply when

Baba is always with you, there is always a fulfillment and wholesomeness.

It is not easy to know your own Self. Take the case of the food that you eat. You feel its presence as long as it is in your stomach, but do not know what happens in the stages after that, unless you study in depth about your human body. How then can you know, without effort, the Truth that lies behind the sheaths that encase and enclose you. You must clear the intellect of the cobwebs of the ego, the dust of desire, and the soot of greed and envy, then it becomes a fit instrument for revealing the Inner Truth. The Scriptures exhort you to know your Self, know your Inner Motivator (the Antharyami)! For, unless you are armed with that knowledge, you are like a ship sailing without a compass in a stormy sea!

One has to understand the importance of life and the purpose of living. One has to cultivate
a proper manner of conduct to recognize the divinity and the need to follow or
observe the righteousness and should not lead a life by unchecked egos. If some
one is ill tempered or volatile he/she will receive the hatred feeling from others. One should
be humble, receptive and responsive to the needs of the poor and needy and lead
a honest life with good integrity. Divinity and spirituality shows us a glimpse of the true
path towards the destiny of Supreme Power. Worship, prayer, offerings to the Supreme
Power and rituals have to be followed rigidly. If one follows the divine path, he or she is
forewarned about the pitfalls in life. Good character and positive thoughts of divine power
will certainly lead us towards intelligent and strategic goals of divine power. Firstly, one
should believe in himself/herself to understand the reality of divine power. If one goes through
rigorous practice of meditation can certainly attain the awareness of divinity. Once a person
does this regularly, aversion, anger, sufferings, etc will be eliminated once for all. It can bring a
spiritual transformation by eradicating the negative picture of ego and ill-formed thoughts.

Once, Baba granted an interview to the Marxist editor of an Indian Newspaper. He spent two and a half hours with him and persuaded him of his error. The Marxist questioned Him about the methodology of His kind of ‘revolution’ and Baba replied that He had none in the accepted organisational sense. His method is the simple one of transforming the inner individual through love, and the machinery used is co-operation and brotherhood induced by this kind of love.
The editor then asked why He did not cure the ills of the world by His sankalpa to which Swami, as one would expect, replied that this kind of instant solution - without a prior spiritual transformation - would not work; the world would quickly revert to the present chaos. He also explained that the whole drama of creation with its karmic law (of cause and effect) would collapse.
Pressed by the editor about the difficulties in persuading the rich of such a life of philosophy, Swami replied, “The rich can only come to Me on the basis of absolute equality. This is why at the ashram rich and the poor work together, eat, worship and sleep together, do menial tasks together, and share the common austerities of the ashram. There is absolutely no distinction. Yet, despite this, the wealthy come to Me in order to secure that peace of mind which physical comfort and power cannot give. I convert their minds and hearts to spiritual values and truths.”
The rich cannot secure Swami’s grace without surrendering their materialistic outlook and self-serving attachments. He tells them, “Ego lives by getting and forgetting, love lives by giving and forgiving.” He changes their mental attitudes. He emphasises the need to live a life without desire, a desirelessness based on high thinking and frugal living, rather than a high material standard. He shows them that riches provide a fatal temptation, which is the source and the cause of human bondage.
“Shed your luggage, ” He says, using one of His parables, “you will travel lighter.” It is not material but spiritual satisfaction that ultimately makes life worth living. And He points to the poor who are often spiriutally rich, and to the rich who are often spiritually paupers.
During hisshort stay at Puttaparthi, the Marxist editor discovered to his amazement that the woman who swept the courtyard was a maharani, his personal attendant was an ex-magistrate and the interpreter during His interview was formerly India’s leading scientist, Dr S Bhagavantham!”

Why was it that Droupadi was blessed with so much Grace from Krishna? Verily, this was the question troubling Satyabhama and Rukmani. They used to wonder, why Krishna was constantly talking of and visiting Droupadi often.

One day Krishna asked Satyabhama and Rukmani to accompany Him to Droupadi's place. When they arrive, Droupadi had just finished her bath and was brushing her hair. Krishna tells Satyabhama and Rukmani to brush Droupadi's hair. Though indignantly, Satyabhama and Rukmani obey. They were shocked to hear the constant chanting of 'Krishna, Krishna' emanating from each strand of hair. They realised that Droupadi, rightfully deserved all the Grace, Krishna showered on her. The Name of Krishna had permeated every pore of Droupadi's body.

Her yearning, her love, her devotion for Krishna had saturated into the very core of her being. Krishna could not but respond to whole-hearted devotion of this devotee of His. Droupadi had achieved the highest stage of securing the constant companionship of the Lord, through the simple sadhana of Namajapa. This is not a legendary story but an experience which can be verified by everyone personally.

The Lord is the Immanent Power in everything; those who refuse to believe that the image in the mirror (the world) is a reflection of themselves, how can they believe in the Lord, when He is reflected in every object around them? The moon is reflected in a pot, provided it has water. So too, the Lord can be clearly seen in your heart, provided, you have the water of Love inside it. When the Lord is not reflected in your heart, you cannot say that there is no Lord. It only means that there is no Love within you.

We have all heard that a clear sky, a clear heart, a clear mindset, clarity in vision
bring in a sense of simplicity and transparency in life. Negative emotion influences
a person's mind and reacts accordingly. Sometimes, it leads to ill effects. If one has
a pure emotion and has a control over the mental status and thoughts, he/she would be
able to think clearly and rationally in the right direction, even in circumstances
which are likely to cause a tensed situation. Because every thought process has a dimension.
One has to try to develop pure thoughts as Baba says by dedicated persistent efforts to achieve
mental discipline through repetition of Bhagavan Namas, get associated in Satsangh,
spend sometime in a day towards the reading of divine scriptures, perform Japam, if
possible, Meditation, Pranayama, dedicated prayer, etc. Good and Divine thoughts
alone could fetch the bliss of Supreme Power. One should not give room for any bad or evil
thoughts to occupy one's mind and heart. One has to be always watchful by eliminating
useless, unnecessary and unwanted thinking.

It is needless to search for God. Verily you are the Divine. Strive to realize this truth. There is a simple and easy way. Have the faith that every human being is an embodiment of the Divine. Love everyone. Serve all. The best way to love God is to love all.

My Life is my Message

Three fishes lived in a pond. One told the other two that the water was drying up and they should leave before it was too late.
The first fish decided to leave the pond immediately, the second said it could save itself when the contingency arose and the third fish ignored it. In due course, the second and third fish were caught by a fisherman.
The second fish managed to break through the net and escape, the third one resigned its fate to destiny.
God of Death, Yama is the fisherman; unless early notice is taken of the process of drying to which the tank of one's lifespan is subject, one gets caught.
Migrate into the sea of Grace, which will not dry; or learn the art of breaking through the net of death.
Discard sloth and slumber, denounce fanaticism and make yourself a dedicated servant of the Lord.
Then all strength, joy and Grace will be showered on you.
Baba (thought for the day)

It was about turning it into light and God. It was like that in the reflection in the dream.
Atman reacts, reflects and resounds.

A few elders in Brindavan who revelled in scandalizing Krishna set an ordeal for Radha to test her virtue. Radha was asked to fetch water in a pot from Yamuna to home. Radha, with full faith in Krishna, was immersed in the consciousness of the Lord, that she never bothered to know the condition of the pot. The mud pot she was given had a hundred holes. She immersed it in the river, repeating the name of Krishna as usual, with every intake of the breath and every exhalation. Every time the name Krishna was uttered, a hole was covered, so that by the time the pot was full, it was whole! That was the measure of her faith. Faith can affect even inanimate objects.

Generally, faith is the basic concept for every act to materialise. Belief and
faith brings normally the friends and relatives together on some common
issues. Similarly faith is very essential to understand and to know anything
in one's life. One would not be able to learn anything anew in life unless
and until one has total or absolute belief or faith in the Supreme Power.
Firstly, a person has to have absolute faith in the Supreme Power and that
HE is supreme and HE has only created everything including the Universe.
For example, without belief or faith no society or family can survive with cohesion
and affection. Normally, when one has fear or apprehension on some thing,
it instantly affects the mental attitudes and on the expectations besides
it brings in a change in the physical and bodily conditions and as a result
a person feels either emotionally or shows anger or joy on others. Above all
it affects the mood of a person. Sometimes ignorance becomes a strong bias.
One has to weigh both positive and negative influences properly. If a person
has a strong and absolute faith in the Supreme Power, one can achieve many
things in life and it may also be possible to have a darshan of Supreme Power
sooner.
