A few elders in Brindavan who revelled in scandalizing Krishna set an ordeal for Radha to test her virtue. Radha was asked to fetch water in a pot from Yamuna to home. Radha, with full faith in Krishna, was immersed in the consciousness of the Lord, that she never bothered to know the condition of the pot. The mud pot she was given had a hundred holes. She immersed it in the river, repeating the name of Krishna as usual, with every intake of the breath and every exhalation. Every time the name Krishna was uttered, a hole was covered, so that by the time the pot was full, it was whole! That was the measure of her faith. Faith can affect even inanimate objects.

Sathya Sai Baba - Excerpts from Swami Interview

Sai Inspires

When you come out of the examination hall, you know whether you will pass or fail, for you can yourself judge how well you have answered – is it not? So too, in your daily life, each of you can judge and ascertain the success or failure of your Sadhana (Spiritual Effort). Sadhana is the most essential practice for you. No age is too early for this. Just as you tend the body with food and drink at regular intervals, you must also tend to the needs of the inner Soul by regular japam and dhyanam (contemplation and meditation) and the cultivation of virtues. Holy Company, Good Attitude and Sacred Thoughts are all very essential for the growth and the health of your inner personality. Your body is the mansion (Bhavanam) of the Lord of the Universe (Bhuvaneshwara).

- Divine Discourse, Feb 2, 1958.
Character is built up by constant practice of good actions. A good character is the greatest

Sadhana is imperative to everyone of us, not only to balance the mind towards spiritual
practices, but also to attain the bliss of the Supreme Power through regular consistent
practices of prayer and meditation, etc so as to derive mental clarity and focus on the
Supreme Power besides dedication on the spiritual goals. Further,
Sadhana practice
paves a way to have an opportunity for clear consciousness, and enlightenment.
Sadhana can be tuned in many ways, such as spiritual exercises of meditation, chanting of
mantras/slokas, worship/prayer, yoga and so on. Sadhana can also be performed by
learning spiritual activities through reading spiritual books. It can also be done either alone
sitting in a quiet place at home
or in a group like Satsangh. Any consistent daily routine
practice can certainly bring a spiritual realization and enlightenment of
mind and rejuvenation
of physical body. As Baba says, if one has good attitude and sacred thoughts through Sadhana,
one can understand the inner personality. Good virtues, japam and dhynam, etc could also bring
appreciable feelings in one's mind and heart.

The greatest fear man can have is the fear of losing GOD's Love. Where there is FAITH, there is LOVE; Where there is LOVE; there is PEACE; Where there is PEACE; there is GOD; Where there is GOD; there is BLISS.
God is not to be spoken of as coming down or going up, since HE is everywhere.
GOD is the doer; you are but the instrument.

GOD gave you the time, space, cause, material, idea, skill, chance and fortune. Why should you feel as if you are the doer?

Swami's gifts are beautiful, but what if one wants peace of mind?

SAI: Only thoughts of God and intense love for Him bring peace. As worldly thoughts diminish, thoughts of God increase. Normally, the mind is all the time desiring these worldly things. As the desires are cut out one by one, the peace becomes stronger. You weave the threads and there is the cloth. If the threads are removed, there is no longer cloth. When there are Godly thoughts, there is peace of mind. Swami cannot give peace of mind; one has to work for it. We do meditation, spiritual practices in this temporary body.

Though this body is temporary, you have to use temporary things to realize the Truth.

The Grace of the Lord cannot be won by a little pretence of non-attachment (Vairagyam) or just with a few little acts of discrimination (Vivekam). Know and act; realise and also experience - that is the hard path. Surrender yourself to His Will. Life is a great Yajna (sacrificial rite). Allow the Lord to preside over it. Do not ignore Him. This world is not a land of enjoyment (Bhoga Bhoomi). It is a land of sacrifice, of Yoga (union with God), and of righteous actions (Thyaga Bhoomi, Yoga Bhoomi, Karma Bhoomi). Have love and the spirit of unity in work and prayer, I assure you, the Kingdom of the Lord (Rama Rajya) will establish itself again here.

Sometimes one is blind about the divinity and do not have a proper
answer for vairaghyam or vivekam. One may have many apprehensions
as to how to proceed with in the absence of proper Guru. While one is
able to distinguish between truth and bad deeds, one is not able to,
because one may not have right thinking and sometimes rather misled
owing to circumstances or association with the people. If one gets
inspiration through spiritual books or pravachanams, etc. one can get
spiritual light and can understand the significance of Supreme Power and the
necessity for dwelling in divine power. If a person is spiritually enlightened,
then he/she automatically distinguishes between vairaghyam and vivekam.

Cultivate Good Thoughts and Noble Feelings in your Heart

Sathya Sai Baba sings: Cultivate Good Thoughts and Noble Feelings in your Heart - YouTube

Manasu
Manasu Malinyamula Nella Mattubetti
Parama Parishuddha Bhavamul Padu Kolupa
Gnana Drishtiyu Nepadi Kana Baduno
Viswamanthayu Brahma Yai Venugunatula

Meaning:
Having completely destroyed all the dross of mind and having made an effort to implant pure and unsullied feelings, one can see the whole universe filled with the Supreme Being Brahman through the vision of knowledge.

Good thoughts alone would lead to good action. What is the meaning of good action? A good action is that which would please God. Whatever you do, you should always have the feeling that you are doing God's work. Further, you should never forget to dedicate your actions to God. He who in this manner always lovingly offers all his actions to God would get only good thoughts and feelings; evil thoughts and feelings would never enter his Mind. All worldly activities must be inspired by noble feelings emanating from the Heart. Cultivate noble feelings, seek the Divine, and realise that the Divine transcends all attributes.

What is Divinity? Who is God? The Love that is immanent in all beings is God. Love is God, and this Love is inherent in every being. Man should give expression to the Love latent in him in the same way God gives expression to His Love and shares it with all. Love is most adorable, beautiful, infinite and beyond all measure. Pure and unselfish Love must be treated as an aspect of the Divine. It cannot be commanded or demanded, or purchased or acquired through raw physical might. You cannot hire it or obtain it on lease. No one can lend Love or borrow Love. Love is immanent and infinite. Love between beings cannot be like a business transaction, as people often tend to imagine. Pure Love can be attained only through Pure Love. Love should be the basis of life. Today, no one thinks of true, Selfless Love. People seek all kinds of specialised education, positions of authority and power. All this is a complete waste of time and an exercise in futility. Actions become meaningful only when they are born of good thoughts and rooted firmly in Pure Love

Maanasika Soucham (Purity of the mind): This calls for total elimination of attachments and
aversions from the mind. Hatred and envy should have no place. One should cultivate the largeheartedness to return good for evil and not to cause pain to anyone in any circumstance. This is a mark of a pure mind. Today people are filled with hatred and envy. They cannot bear to see others happy or prosperous. This is a sign of a polluted mind. Men with evil minds develop demoniac traits. To be truly human, one has to have a pure, unsullied mind. He has to recognize that the same divinity is present in everyone. He should realise that the pure spirit that dwells in him and the power that animates him are present equally in every human being. One who is conscious of this unity will have an untrammelled mind.
Realisation of the Divine is the goal. But most of our actions are related to worldly concerns. The only way to sanctify all actions is to do them as acts of worship, as an offering to the Divine. Thereby life itself becomes sacred.
You must shed the feeling of "mine" and "thine." You have to realise the Truth that "the Divine dwells in every human being" (Eko vaasi Sarva bhootha antharaatma). You must develop this sense of oneness and share it with others
Sathya Sai Baba)

Baba Answers…

bhagawantpr1.jpg

Is there any quick-fix with Bhagawan to cure the `ill-afflicted' world? Why does not He cure it by His mere sankalpa? …and are rich and poor alike in His presence? What is it that makes life worth living?…Bhagawan answers to a barrage of questions posed to Him by a Marxist editor of an Indian Newspaper. From the book `Sai Baba – The Embodiment Of Love' by Peggy Mason and Ron Laing.

Once, Baba granted an interview to the Marxist editor of an Indian Newspaper. He spent two and a half hours with him and persuaded him of his error. The Marxist questioned Him about the methodology of His kind of `revolution' and Baba replied that He had none in the accepted organisational sense. His method is the simple one of transforming the inner individual through love, and the machinery used is co-operation and brotherhood induced by this kind of love.

The editor then asked why He did not cure the ills of the world by His sankalpa to which Swami, as one would expect, replied that this kind of instant solution – without a prior spiritual transformation – would not work; the world would quickly revert to the present chaos. He also explained that the whole drama of creation with its karmic law (of cause and effect) would collapse.

Pressed by the editor about the difficulties in persuading the rich of such a life of philosophy, Swami replied, "The rich can only come to Me on the basis of absolute equality. This is why at the ashram rich and the poor work together, eat, worship and sleep together, do menial tasks together, and share the common austerities of the ashram. There is absolutely no distinction. Yet, despite this, the wealthy come to Me in order to secure that peace of mind which physical comfort and power cannot give. I convert their minds and hearts to spiritual values and truths."

The rich cannot secure Swami's grace without surrendering their materialistic outlook and self-serving attachments. He tells them, "Ego lives by getting and forgetting, love lives by giving and forgiving." He changes their mental attitudes. He emphasises the need to live a life without desire, a desirelessness based on high thinking and frugal living, rather than a high material standard.

He shows them that riches provide a fatal temptation, which is the source and the cause of human bondage.

"Shed your luggage, " He says, using one of His parables, "you will travel lighter." It is not material but spiritual satisfaction that ultimately makes life worth living. And He points to the poor who are often spiriutally rich, and to the rich who are often spiritually paupers.

During his short stay at Puttaparthi, the Marxist editor discovered to his amazement that the woman who swept the courtyard was a maharani, his personal attendant was an ex-magistrate and the interpreter during His interview was formerly
India's leading scientist, Dr S Bhagavantham!"

Students and youngsters must have challenging attitude towards things and honour physical labour. You must be eager to be of service to those who need it on account of their disabilities. Honour your elders and do not miss any chance of serving or pleasing them. Whatever gives you health and joy, welcome it – but do not lower yourself by indulging in vulgar pastimes. Do not wander aimlessly in the streets or frequent cinema halls and mix with undesirable company, or cultivate bad habits for fun. Remember that you must raise your motherland to great heights through your hard work and effort. When you develop such virtues, the nation will prosper.

- Divine Discourse, Feb 2, 1958.

A person requires constant attention towards one point i.e. Supreme Power with
good integrity, devotion, together with good thoughts, words and deeds. In other
words, it calls for single-pointed complete and total focus with heart and mind
coupled with self control and self discipline. As Baba says, single pointed devotion
towards the divine power cannot be achieved unless one gets self awareness of all
the thoughts, words and deeds. In order to get self awareness, one has to do frequent
self analysis to exactly understand about the truths of thoughts, deeds and words. If
a person adopts truth in one's life, it itself is a great achievement. Sometimes, people
forget the facts of truth and allow the mind to wander for unwanted comforts and pleasures.
If we trace our spiritual books, it clearly mentions that one should always speak the truth
without hurting others and if it is not possible one may remain silent during such occasions.
One can notice in life, that elders watch the conduct and character of a person before
allowing a person to get associated with such people. It is supposed to be the primary
and essential requirement for a person. If one practices truth, not hurting others without
harsh words or abusing others, showing anger or jealousy towards anyone for not getting
material pleasures, is itself a good conduct. These reflect one's personal behavior. Sincerity,
humility, purity in intention and conduct, sympathetic awareness of others distress, polite
behavior, etc are imperative for a person to lead a moral life.

ATMA IS BASIS FOR EVERYTHING.

The light from the Atma illumines the mind and enable it to see the external world. Without this illumination, the mind cannot comprehend the world. It shines because of the lightfrom the Atma. The mind is lie the moon which receives its light from the sun.It has no light of its on. When the sun shines, the moon is hardly visible.Likewise, when there is awarness of Atma,, the mind is not perceivable. The Atma is basis of everything.

The grace of God is like insurence . It will help you in your time of need without any limit.

First, have unshakeable faith that can stand the ridicule of the ignorant, worldly and the low-minded. When someone ridicules you, reflect within yourself - Are they ridiculing my body or soul? If they are ridiculing my body, they are helping me develop detachment! Ridiculing the soul is impossible, for, the Atma is beyond praise or blame, words or thoughts. Then repeat to yourself, “I am the Eternal Self, Pure and Immovable (Nirmala, Nischala) and so I must transcend this feeling.” Secondly, do not worry about ups and downs, loss or gain, joy or grief. You are the creator of your own destiny. You crave for something - when you get it, you feel joyful! If you don’t get it, you are in despair. Cut the craving off, and there will be no more swings between joy and grief. Finally, be convinced in the Omnipresence of Divinity.

A dedicated and devoted disciple of the Supreme Power normally has the
instincts and desire to serve HIS devotees. One must try to ensure that
one does not develop an overinflated sense of self-importance. Besides
being a true servant of the Supreme Power, one must try to exercise self-
control. One must resist the temptation in acquiring material assets in life.
Helping the distressed people enables one to keep the commitments to the
disciples and also the sacrificial love for one another. At the same time
one should not have selfish ambition to be popular or famous or powerful
in the Society for doing such acts. One can donate sumptuous amount to
Orphanages or unused clothes, books, and other items according to one's
financial capacity. One can spend sometime in a week to serve the patients
in the Hospitals in the form of volunteers to organize donation of free medicines
or items of eatables that may be needed by the inpatients with the permission
of hospital authorities.

Once, when presented with seva projects for human beings, Bhagawan said: “What about the animals? They need help too. My love embraces the animal kingdom as well as the human kingdom and so should yours……….it should not just be limited to human beings.” (source: Dr. Narendranath Reddy,UK medical conference, September 2011). To another devotee, He has said, “Real Seva is animal seva”
