Samskrithi’, the Sanskrit word for culture, is derived from the root word ‘Samskara’ which means the dual process of removing dust and dirt, and planting the virtues of Truth, Right Conduct, Love, Non-violence and Love. Certain obligatory rites of initiation and purification prescribed by the Vedas for one’s spiritual upliftment, are also referred to as Samskaras. There are 48 such, but all of them can be reduced to just one, which is the final and fulfilling one - recognition of one’s identity with the Divine. Man (Nara) is God (Narayana). The individual entity (Jiva) is Divinity (Brahman) seen through the limitations of primal ignorance.

The reason we gather at a temple or at a Satsangh is to bring together all the
believers in the God so as to do regular puja or worship, prayer, namasangeerthanam,
etc so as to build faith in one another and also to form a path towards spiritual
growth. Participating in such activities paves way for spiritual growth. People
who are ignorant of spiritual activities, can be counselled and the significance of
spiritual activities can be taught in a manner that they could understand so as to
enable them to practice regularly either at home or join a Satsangh. Prayer is
nothing but a concentration towards the Supreme Power. One need not have to
use big slokas or stotras initially. One can do meditation and understand the
concept of meditation faithfully and also convey the importance to others also
in a Satsang. If one strives every day for a few minutes, concentration will get
enlarged. According to Hindu Dharma, it is believed that bathing in Holy rivers
will cure illnesses and sin's can be forgiven. Hence, body, mind and inner spirit
can all be refreshed and religious beliefs can become a part of mental stability
towards spiritual growth.

For the wisdom of discrimination to dawn on people, elders must first set an example in discrimination and detachment. If they run after sensory pleasures with feverish excitement, how can the youth be blamed for their selfishness and greed? The elders must practise what they preach, show how a divine life confers mental poise, joy, contentment and harmony. They must spend at least some time everyday in the recital of the Lord’s Name or on Meditation. Then, children too, will imbibe that atmosphere and acquire peace for sure. Today, many speak with full passion that there is nothing as sweet as the Name of the Lord, but they do not repeat it at all. Children will easily discover the hoax, if one neglects their own spiritual progress on the path, but preaches it. The accountability of those who profess the spiritual path is great and must not be undermined.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY 8 Th August 2013

SI_20130808.jpg

Picture this inward journey as walking through a four storied building to get to the top – the ground floor being the union with God through action (Karma Yoga), and the other floors being Devotion, Wisdom and Detachment (Bhakthi, Jnana and Vairagya). When it is just a nascent fruit, it is karma. That is, all are capable of the activity, and so it is the first step in spirituality as well. When it matures and is rendered free from egoism and greed, it becomes worship, and so, it leads one onto the second floor, Bhakthi. When it is ripe and sweet, that is to say, when the devotee achieves complete self-surrender, then it is the acquisition of Jnana (Wisdom). When the fruit drops from the tree, it marks full detachment (Vairagya); the fourth floor of God's mansion is then reached.

Adi Sankara has given lot of examples to explain the significance for the propagation
of bhakti yoga. Lord Krishna in HIS sermons mentions that a yogi who is sincerely
devoted to him through love is always dearest to him. Devotion and Bhakti is the
proven mode of worship to be near to the Supreme Power. Knowledge and
understanding of Supreme Power leads to bhakti and in turn bhakti leads to salvation.
Egoless and self-less surrender to the Supreme Power through devotion and bhakti
can fetch the desired results. If mother is not present, the child instantly cries
and looks for her. Similarly, a devotee look for the Supreme Power through his
prayer, worship, bhajans, etc. Constant and continuous prayer will certainly
fetch good results.

The Vedas are declarations of truth and verses that praise the Divine.............The sages and saints received these from God Himself for no one can describe nor praise His glory other than HimSelf..............The human mind is limited in vision and can only relate to physical experiences..............God is not a being that can be known by the human mind......................If you cannot know of Him fully then who can write of Him.............It is also said that God knows you and your feelings best.

There is no point in distributing the essence of spirituality (Adhyatma rasa) to underfed and weak people; give them food (Anna rasa) first, make them strong enough to entertain strong beliefs and contain strong ideals. Physical hunger must first be appeased by simple and pure (Sathwik) food. Then the repetition of the Name of the Lord must be undertaken; it can be any name that appeals to you the most. Do not treat the Name lightly. Respect it even if you hear it from the lips of a beggar, who uses it to procure alms. Though the person who utters the Name is bad or though his motive in uttering it may not be noble, do not ill treat the Name for its purity can never be harmed. Thank them for reminding you of the Lord and go your way.

Sairam.

Every religion teaches good things such as devotion, bakthi, love, forgivingness
avoiding jealousy, unity and cooperation, egoless, self-surrender, etc. But
the people interpret them in a different way.

Bhagawan Baba has always emphasized the need for simple living and high thinking. In this divine discourse delivered on 20 Nov 2002, on the occasion of conferring diplomas to the students of the International Institute of Sathya Sai Education, Swami exhorts us to become self-reliant in all that we do and to lead a simple yet virtuous life.

Become like the flute, a hollow reed, straight, light, with no substance to hinder His breath. Then He will come and pick you up and breathe divine music through you, playing upon you with a delicate touch. In His hand the infinitesimal will be transmuted into the Infinite. Intensify the love that is present within you. It is a sacred gift. Expand your love so that all beings can share in it. Your love must be such that if someone around you is sad, you feel sad and if they are happy, you feel that happiness. Have your love fixed and devoted on the Lord, whether your petty wishes get fulfilled or not. Never let go, under any circumstances, this precious treasure - your Love for God.

While addressing a batch of students, Bhagawan Baba, mentioned that the need of the hour is not to picture life as a garden of happiness and romantic love, but to hold it out as a battle (field) meant to be lived as an ideal of heroism and courage. He also mentioned that a play of words would be of no use at all. By obtaining mere degrees, one can neither make the motherland glow with glory nor can blossom for their own benefit. He emphasized that maintaining truth, everyone should transform into great devotees, lovers of God and become ready for any supreme sacrifice such as surrender of selfishness or self-interest. Hearts should get filled with waves of idealism for spirituality. One should not become slaves of low desires and feelings but one has to aspire for making spirituality as his/her dwelling place. Only through Love of God,
one can attain bliss of the Supreme Power. One has to foster devotion and nothing is equal to that.

Sathya Sai Darshanam – The Beauty Beyond Compare!!!
Every gesture, every act, every single thing The Lord does is not without any significance, but with profundity ordinary mortal will fail to grasp, understand… Bhagawan had often times asked for an encore of Bhajans…encore of Mangala Arathi…encore of Samastha Lokah… All that humanity can do is to submit to Him sans any reservations…praying from a heart invoking His supreme benediction…deliberating on The Beauty Beyond Compare, let's move on...

Given below is an excerpt from the Darshan Story on 9 August 2010 in Prasanthi Nilayam as chronicled by The Prasanthi Reporter…Let's read..assimilate…live with it and thus manifest HIM, our Beloved Mother Sai!
Let's re-connect to PRASANTHI DARSHAN UPDATES to connect to THE BEAUTY BEYOND COMPARE!!!
thebeautybeyondcompare_aug9.jpg

Mon, Aug 9, 2010: Today, in the evening that had no `special' schedule, Bhagawan emerged at 1725 hrs. to come for a slow, `detailed' round of darshan. Coming onto the portico, Bhagawan blessed `Team Vidya Vahini' before proceeding to come onstage, past 1745 hrs., from the right of Ganesha. Before assuming His original seat, Bhagawan paused for a while facing the university block, casting His Divine benedictory glance.
With no special programme scheduled for the evening it was `soulful' bhajans that ensued after four days passed with noughts, and the capacity audience enjoyed every bit of the session with Bhagawan sitting through for seventy-five minutes.
thebeautybeyondcompare_aug9_1.jpg

As bhajans went on, forty minutes into the session, there was a pause as Bhagawan called one of the lead bhajan singing `duo' unto the dais, conversing and blessing the pair with Vibhuti prasadam. Session continued with bhajans taking the lead. Another singer got to get His attention, and this time Bhagawan blessed the boy with a golden chain. It was 1833 hrs. and Bhagawan nodded for Mangala Arathi. Even as Arathi was on, blessed prasadam was distributed to the entire assemblage. A minute's pause ensued after the Arathi and Bhagawan asked for an encore of "Samastha Lokaha…".
thebeautybeyondcompare_aug9_2.jpg

When human minds `declared' the session over, Bhagawan had other plans and He sat through, glancing upon the boys and it was obvious that The Lord was in a mood to continue. As He was glancing through the group of boys in the front block it was apparent that Bhagawan was ready for `His Pick' and the boys in the block got alerted and sat glued to the beauteous form. …And the vast concourse was enjoying this Divine play involving The Lord and His `properties'. One of the boys working with the Prasanthi Digital Studio got His attention followed by a faculty from Brindavan….and He called the senior lead singer followed by the singing pair once again…another pair followed and time clock was inching forward…it was about to be 1900 hrs. and Bhagawan indicated that it was time to move.
…And He moved off, taking a right turn, coming onto the lower verandah from the right of Ganesha, to move on retiring to Yajur Mandiram.

Your worldly intelligence cannot fathom the ways of God. He cannot be recognised by mere cleverness, which is what your intelligence mostly is. You may benefit from God, but you cannot explain Him. You may benefit from electricity, and use it in a thousand ways, but you cannot explore and explain its mystery. How and why it works in a particular manner and not in any other way, is beyond your ken. Your explanations are merely guesses, attempts to clothe your ignorance in pompous expressions. The mistake is, you give the brain more value than it deserves. The Para-thathwa (Supreme Truth) is beyond the reach of the brain; you cannot lift a rock when you are standing on it! Standing in Maya, you cannot discard it.
