A person does not attain the power of divinity unless one makes a dedicated
and sincere effort by doing consistent prayer or worship to attain the supernatural
power of the deity. Certain sacred acts have to be performed under the aegis of
an experienced Guru, who is also dedicated and sincere in his/her approaches. One
can notice the qualities of individuals who have some special grace of the Supreme
power to do such acts. The person who desires to attain the divine power has to
have a positive thinking and thought processes besides absolute faith in the Supreme
Power with goodness. People who attains divinity can be easily noticed from the
face of the person itself and one can watch the goodness and pro-social approaches.
One should not misuse the divine power for evil acts. There are established
conventional procedures to perform pujas, etc. Worship is not a problematic one.
Everyone has to have some interest and worship should be done systematically.

Your worldly intelligence cannot fathom the ways of God. He cannot be recognised by mere cleverness, which is what your intelligence mostly is. You may benefit from God, but you cannot explain Him. You may benefit from electricity, and use it in a thousand ways, but you cannot explore and explain its mystery. How and why it works in a particular manner and not in any other way, is beyond your ken. Your explanations are merely guesses, attempts to clothe your ignorance in pompous expressions. The mistake is, you give the brain more value than it deserves. The Para-thathwa (Supreme Truth) is beyond the reach of the brain; you cannot lift a rock when you are standing on it! Standing in Maya, you cannot discard it.

A Story to Tell

The one who has given to you
This life shall alone fulfill it…
The one who has given to you
The tears to weep
Shall alone wipe them…
The one who has given to you
The troubles and the pains
Shall alone give you the strength
To traverse them…
The one who has given to you
The fears and the doubts
Shall give you the vision
To picture the whole truth…
The one who has given the work
Shall guide you to its completion…
The one who has given to you
The love to sustain
Shall give to you
The Divine love… the sweet nectar
For you to be at peace always…
All that you worry about
Is only a moment of His game
He can turn the universe
Upside down
And then as if
It was nothing…
In the moment ahead
He turns His head
To the one that calls Him
With love
And clears all that stand before him
And makes for him
The Divine Way!
For you to know the game
Is like
Trying to know the end
When the beginning
Has yet to come…
Only the one
That blindfolds himself in faith
On the lap of God
Shall hear Him “speak”
Of what is yet to come
And what He alone shall do
While you hold on
To the moment of love
That He has given to you…
What is there
Then to see?
What is there
Then to tell?
The ways of God
No one can understand…
The tunnel of time
We have to pass
Knowing that there
Was light
Before we entered the tunnel
And there is light
That awaits
Beyond…
When time ends…
And Gods arms
Shall gather us
Into the eternal rest.

People grieve because they develop attachment towards the unreal. They cultivate an unreasonable affection for wealth. However they are ready to sacrifice their hard earned riches to save the lives of their children, for their attachment to children is stronger than their attachment to wealth. Some people however, stoop so low as to neglect even their children, when the choice is between their preferences and their children’s well-being. Real joy can be found only by dwelling on Divinity within you! The orange has a rind, which is not very tasty, but it protects the fruit and preserves it from decay. To get the sweetness of the orange, you must peel and throw off the rind. Such is the fruit of the tree of life. It is protected by a bitter rind! A wise person does not try to eat the rind – after due consideration, he removes it and discards it, and then enjoys the sweetness of the fruit.

There is a quote that "Manam oru Kurangu", because mind changes
every day, in fact, it gets changed every minute/hour, etc. Some
say it changes like a chameleon. Because of chanchalam and no
sthiram of mind, it always becomes wavering and unsteady. One has
to have a control of senses of mind and create a habit of learning
divine activities, initially by chanting the Names of the Supreme Power
like Hari Om, Narayana, Rama, Siva, etc., which would pave a way
to purify the mind. Once if a person starts the practice regularly,
and dedicates with concentration, even a period of two hours
would appear to be five minutes. Suppose, if the mind is wavering
and not steady in divine acts, even half an hour would appear to be
two hours.

The mind is the wind that brings to us the smell, foul or fragrant from the world. When the mind turns towards the foul, you get disgusted. When it turns towards the fragrant, you are happy. The wind gathers the clouds from the four quarters; similarly the mind brings into your consciousness the disappointments of many hopes. Again, it is the mind that, like the wind, scatters the clouds that darken it or make it feel lost in the night of doubt. Control the mind and you will remain in peace! To gain this equanimity, you have to do not reading, but systematic sadhana (spiritual effort). Then you will be always happy, whether you are rich or poor, appreciated or rejected, prosperous or unlucky. Entering the arena of life without equanimity is like sailing on a storm-tossed sea in a tiny rudderless boat! So enter upon the path of spiritual discipline right now.

The spiritual disciplines enables us to become stronger in our faith.
But spiritual disciplines takes time to develop and effort to inculcate
it into our daily lives. Spiritual disciplines such as exercising our mind
and emotions to become closer to the Supreme Power takes lot of time.
But then if strictly adhered to, one can achieve many things in life. The
more one practices these disciplines, the better result one would achieve
and leads to a higher degree of faith. If a person focuses on the Supreme
Power, continuously, the cloud vision gets cleared, and one stops permitting
other things to enter into mind. Subsequently, a person gets clarity
about the Supreme Power and becomes more disciplined with absolute
faith.

Words of Healing

Monday August 12, 2013

Being good is knowing... believing... understanding... and living that you are inseparable from God... always...

Instead of questioning the presence of God, question the reality of fear...

Instead of doubting your strength, doubt the strength of the weakness that is taking you toward misery...

Instead of running here and there for peace, stand still and face the enemy of greed, anger, jealousy, envy, desire, and attachment...

Instead of thinking and planning, worrying and panicking, place yourself in the Hands of God...

Instead of liking this and hating that, cherishing this and fearing that, accept everything that comes your way as His will and His commend...

Instead of thinking the thoughts of misery, think 'I am happy... I am well... and I am serving God now, this very moment by being calm, confident, and caring...'

Instead of carrying the burden of duties, simply just do them without a thought... without the desire of the return of love...

Instead of praying to God for this one and that one... For this thing and that thing, simply thank Him and say, "You are, O Lord, there, blessing all... gracing all... loving all... and I thank You for the simple thought that You are there, and I have come to simply know that... live that... love that... and realize that...

When you go to a temple, some of you break a coconut before the altar. If you try to break the coconut, just as it is when it falls from the tree, will it break? No! The fibre protects the shell and prevents any damage to the fruit. Hence, you must first remove the fibrous cover with a lot of effort. Moksha (liberation) results from the breaking of the mind with all its vagaries and wishes. You have to break your mind but, how can you do it, when the fibrous armour of sensual desires encompasses it? The toughest fibre is anger, it is the stickiest dirt. When you get angry, you forget mother, father, and teacher and descend to the lowest depths. You lose all discrimination in the excitement. So remove them and dedicate the mind to God and smash it in His presence. That moment, you are free.

No Place for Hatred

Never harbor hatred toward anyone. One must be free and not be bound by wrapping his self in the cocoon of hatred. Even a speck of dislike toward anyone can make one mind undergo the torment of anger and in it, one puts his own contentment aside. The result is that one fights more to defend his hatred and gives his right to be peaceful a back seat.

What is the worth of disturbing your peace in order to give room to unnecessary dislike? Make a resolve not to dislike anyone from now on. You must say to yourself, “However much I face another's dislike I shall respond calmly with love.” This love must not be superficial. It must not be in order to make another feel small by establishing your superiority with the right attitude. No, such behavior comes only from the ego. The love must come from compassion. Compassion is the deep understanding that “All is God” and from that understanding one emanates with pure, sweet and unconditional love that is equal for all.

Do not get hurt easily. Do not worry of what one thinks of you. Do not be in haste to please all. You must firmly stand on your principles. Love must be the underlying principle of all principles. With that love you must deal with all misunderstandings. If the misunderstanding continues to remain then you must continue on your path without any resentment. You must wish well for all… It is not important for them to know and understand your thoughts. Time shall tell if you have remained exemplary in your efforts to reach God at all times.

Remember the name of God. Project His beautiful form…His smile into the face of even the one who infuriates you. Fill yourself with love alone… remember nothing else. Those that dislike you have temporarily forgotten the Divine Rule that, “All is God and God alone.” Be understanding toward them. As long as your love flows for them you shall be at peace.

Do not forgive someone for a moment and then remember what they did to you over and over again. Once the episode is over it must be out of your mind. You gave to them your understanding and forgiveness and now do you wish to have it back?! Forgiveness is not a superficial act of the mind and behavior. It is not done out of politeness alone… it is done to cleanse one’s own self from negativity. If one is in a negative state of mind and you accept that negativity you also become negativity.

Nothing is real…other than love… To hold on to another’s mistake is the biggest mistake of all. Always remember that God alone comes before you…as all… Treat them with the same reverence and their mind too shall receive the divine connection.

Always keep your heart spotless. Let the golden light of Compassion, mercy and forgiveness enter you from all corners (senses and mind) and emanate from your center (heart). God shall test you from time to time. Remember all the lessons of truth and be ready to pour it upon the Divine feet.

Derive strength from truth and in trying circumstances stand by the truth and do not fall easily. It is easy to speak of the Divine strength…but realize the time when you have to use it you must remain steadfast in wisdom and not get easily confused.

The key to the gates of heaven is love. Let not resentments…dislikes and petty differences come in the way between you and God’s Grace. The one who gives his Self a life of love shall bring the Divine treasures to his feet. Such a blessed and noble soul shall always be ready to give…help…forgive and accept all of God’s children.

Be prepared for your test… God shall always bless you for your victory. Place your hand in His and celebrate truth and welcome the wave of bliss that shall keep you silent in Divine love.

"One may be a master of all the Scriptures and competent to teach the Vedanta; One may be a great ruler, living in a many-splendoured mansion; One may be a valiant hero who has vanquished his enemies; Or one may be a pitiable victim of poverty and privation. If he has no devotion in him, His life is devoid of meaning. A servant who is filled with love of the Lord Is more to be adored than the overlord of the world."

There must be a Divine purpose in life. Man must know the way to attain God, must be led and guided to attain Him, must be educated to rid himself of distractions on the path, must know that which if known, all else is known. The rest is all secondary, incidental, and unnecessary.

Mother Ganga comes to Puttaparthi

As narrated by very old devotees:
While most of the Leelas were enacted on the Chitravathi river, there was a spectacular one where the mighty river Ganges literally came in search of the Lord right up to the Old Mandir! Nothing like had happened ever before, including in earlier Avatars; and nothing like has happened ever since.

Vijayamma recalls

One day after bhajan, we were all sitting around Swami in the Old Mandir stringing flowers into garlands. In this work, no lady could match his skill and speed!

The garlands that he made were thick and beautiful. Suddenly he got up and said, “Come on, come on! Mother Ganga is coming to visit us.” We looked at each other and smiled, "Where is Ganga and where is Puttaparthi",we thought.
But Swami went quickly and stood near the huge main gate. After opening the gate, he stood in the centre with open arms and told us, “All of you stand back. None of you should go even one inch beyond these outstretched hands of mine.

Look there! Ganga is rushing forth!

We saw a massive river was approaching us with great ferocity, its waves fuming and frothing and rising high in the sky, and with a roaring noise. The river came quite near us, and we children felt greatly scared; we thought, “My God! The river may swallow us!!” The river came very near to Swami and was touching the hem of His robe. Except the roaring water, we could not see any of the trees and shrubs that were visible till then.
The loving Lord Sai extended his hands forward and touched the river. The stretch of water beneath his hand immediately became quiet and serene but the waters beyond were still frighteningly turbulent.

Swami glanced at us and said, “Go inside and bring flowers, coconut, turmeric powder, and kumkum.” We did as instructed and then offered the flowers, turmeric powder, and kumkum to the river. We were quite nervous as we did so.
Thereafter, Swami broke the coconuts, offered them to Mother Ganga, and, placing his palm on the surface of the river, said, “We are very happy that you came to visit us. Ganga, now go back please!”

As he spoke these words, he affectionately patted the waves with both his hands. As if thrilled by his gentle touch, the fury of the waters subsided and the river receded completely.

We rubbed our eyes and gazed in disbelief in all four directions. Not a drop of water was to be seen anywhere! There was absolutely no trace of water anywhere on the ground. Swami’s robe was also dry. Surprise! It was all a glorious surprise, the river going back as suddenly as it had come. We were totally baffled. Swami continued to stand still, and we were worried that the river might come back!

He laughed aloud and pointed in the direction of His feet. We saw there a garland of jasmine flowers wrapped around his divine lotus feet.He picked up the garland, smelt it, and then distributed the flowers to everyone. Each jasmine bud was almost the size of a rose, and was softer to the touch than cotton. Its sweet fragrance spread in all directions.

Most reverentially we placed the flowers on our closed eyes and then wore them in our hair.He said those flowers were from Kailash which is why they were so big.

He turned and walked to the Old Mandir. As we followed we knew.....Here was Lord Shiva himself and the sacred river had come to pay respects to him. This was a miracle beyond our wildest imagination

Krishna declared in the Bhagavad Gita, "Mamaivamsho jivaloke jivabhuta sanathana" (Every being is an aspect of My Divinity). When God considers you as part of Himself, you should also consider others as your own self. Love All, Serve All. See no difference between individuals; do not think of one as a pauper and the other a millionaire. Many millionaires today are engaged in filling their own belly. They are not prepared to give even a morsel of food as alms to a beggar who stands at their doorstep. What is the use of having such rich men in our country? They are rich only for name’s sake but in reality they are the poorest of the poor. Pursue the path of charity and righteousness. Consider others as your own brothers and sisters. Rather, consider them as thyself.

Everyone is equally innocent about the Supreme Power unless one makes
sincere effort to understand his existence. Similarly, everyone is equally
dependent on HIM, whether knowingly or unknowingly. In order to pursue
happiness everyone has to think of HIM daily and pray HIM for atleast a
few minutes. As we all know that there is no guarantee unless the devotee
is able to please the Supreme Power through meditation, Nama Japam or
Nama Sangeerthanam, etc so as to develop some sort of abilities, share
the same experiences with his fellow Devotees in a Satsangh. Desires have
no end or limit. The Supreme Power gives same opportunities to everyone
but one should understand and do the spiritual activities with willingness,
without any ego or self interest. No one becomes perfect unless one makes
sincere and dedicated effort. After all we are all equally human being and there
is every possibility to err.

The primary duty is have self realization to achieve Moksha. Our Dharma
specifies the way towards Karma and Bhakti. Though there are different
ways to achieve salvation. Our Scriptures give in detail about attaining liberation
and also from the cycle of death and rebirth. To cite a few examples, selfless
acts, deep meditation and total surrender to the Supreme Power. Bhakti
shows the people of self realization by overcoming the conscience and getting
awareness about the power of Supreme Power. Self realization paves ways
to attain the bliss.
