Suicide by Mahadevan, husband of singer Nityashree

Was shocked beyond words at the news of suicide by husband of musical genius Nityashree Mahadevan today..

I was wondering how this can happen in the life of such a renowned singer with mellifluous voice and perfect rhythm!

This suicide is cowardly act...In case of marital discord they could have got this resolved or at best gone for divorce!

This is unthinkable with 2 young daughters to be taken care

Nityashree was at the pinnacle of her career...

The music world is saddened by this

This incident has created a void in the December Carnatic Music season

May God give courage to Smt Nityashree to tide over the grief!

May her voice again rise like a phoenix and May she find solace in Music!

Too very disturbing news, may god bless her & family ,give her mental & physical strength to over come .then back to her full form.Actually this incidence give chances to talk more deep to their personal life, even though they are famous public persons, too much peeping into their personal is very bad & tough time.Either commenting on their actions, past is past.god bless for the better, rest of life ,sir but Mrs.NM attempted was a rumor ,stated in tamil news media.

I am still in a state of shock! Let us all pray the Almighty give enough strength to

Smt. Nithyasree to bear this loss and continue her career in the music field. :pray2:

Omg i just saw this here now. She is such a down to earth lovely simple lady and musical genius. Hope the family are ok.

Very sad and disturbing News indeed. Our prayers to Almighty God to give strength to Smt Nithyashree and her family to bear this irreparable loss.
As per the latest news in visual media Police had denied any suicide attempt by Nithyashree. It seems her husband was undergoing treatment for severe depression that he was suffering ever since his mother passed away in April this year.

This song came to my mind when I heard this shocking news. Here is M S Amma singing the song:

Kandu Kandu - M S Subbulakshmi

The lyrics of this Malayalam song is by Sri. Poonthanam Namboothiri and here is the meaning:

Meaning: People whom we see every day, God makes them disappear one day.

In two or four days, God changes the detiny of a man, and puts him from palace to prison.

A King who is rich and arrogant today, God makes him bear heavy burden the next day!

While you count, your life gets shorter and shorter in a fast pace and we die one day.

We never were together while we were born, and we will never be together while we die.

Then why possess jealousy, enmity etc and waste your life?

This is my write-up from the thread 'எண்ண அலைகள்:

இசைப்பயணம் தொடர . . . . .

:pray2:

This is really a very sad news. Smt Nityashree has once given a performance in our colony and stayed in one of the Managing committee member's house. Very much down to earth and simple in actions. Let all of us pray God to give her enough courage to bear this loss and to continue her music journey.

The suicide part is quite shocking but I am not totally surprised by this as couple of months back I got news from a friend of mine who knows their family that Nityashree and her husband were not on good terms and that their relationship was at the lowest point .
I thought they might Divorce but never expected that he would commit suicide .
May the almighty provide strength to Nityashree and her family to tide over this difficult phase .

Dear friends,

The unfortunate decision and death of Sri. Mahadevan will be a good topic of discussion for the 'rumor spreaders'.

Let us not go into the details of what lead to his suicide but ONLY pray the Almighty to give enough strength to the

highly talented singer Smt. Nithyasree, to bear the loss and continue her career as a successful musician.

Its very sad to hear such a shocking news. May the Almighty should bless her with lots of courage to overcome this
and also to their daughters.

Depression after a death of a loved one in this case the mother of Mr Mahadevan can actually put a massive strain on ones mental state and makes one plunge into depression.

Some men are emotionally attached to their mothers and take the death of their mothers real bad.
They tend to emotionally disconnect from their wife and kids too at times and live in their own world.

So it is no surprise after a while the husband and wife grow emotionally distant.

Some people tend to withdraw from others when faced with a death of a loved one.

They themselves actually could have been totally not concerned about life and death before cos as long it did not happen to their loved one....they don't feel it.

It just like how Arjuna got overwhelmed with emotions and became despondent when facing his own kinsmen in battle.
A hero who could slay anyone in battle was shaking when faced with the thought of losing loved ones.

Arjuna was lucky he had the Supreme Psychiatrist Lord Krishna to guide him..but most of us lesser mortals have not much emotional support sometimes.

No one should blame a spouse in a case of suicide..no one should blame Nithya in this case cos living with an emotional distant depressed person is not an easy task.

Greetings.

It is very sad to note the suicide of a person. Very sad indeed.

Commiting suicide is usually not a spontaneous decision. That suicide ideation usually gets meditated for a very long time. It is a real pity no one noticed the tell tale signs before hand. There must have been some kind of indication at some point in time. Obviously such indications either were overlooked or were not noticed.

Hope his spouse finds the strength to get through this period.

Cheers!

Nithyasree’s husband commits suicide

Popular Carnatic vocalist Nithyasree’s husband V. Mahadevan committed suicide by jumping into the Adyar river from the Kotturpuram bridge in Chennai on Thursday afternoon. Firemen fished out his body after a 30-minute operation. Around 12.20 p.m., Mahadevan (45) drove his Honda City with driver Suresh in the passenger seat. While heading towards Kotturpuram, he suddenly stopped the car on the bridge, ran out and jumped into the river, despite Suresh trying to stop him, police sources said. The driver alerted Mahadevan’s family members and Ms. Nithyashree soon reached the spot with a relative on a two-wheeler and saw her husband’s body floating in the river, the sources said. The body was taken to a private hospital and later sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for a post-mortem examination. It was handed over to the family in the evening.
Soon, rumours were afloat about Ms. Nithyasree’s health. Her family members, however, said she was fine but in immense grief.

Respected Madam VR,

Nalla oru kavithai. Facutal words. Whatever were good in the initial stages of married life slowly turned into reasons for turmoil and problems in life. This sort of situation prevails in very many houses. Career is important but at the same time a big question comes to mind that what is the use of such an important career when it has not given much needed peace of mind for the persons. I am not writing this specific to this news but in general.

Very glad to know that a good poet is a member in this forum and request you to continue with such good tamil Kavithigal and post the same in this forum.

sorry this is a repeat of a thread already started in general discussion.

[h=1]Depression associated with antihypertensive drugs.[/h]Prisant LM, Spruill WJ, Fincham JE, Wade WE, Carr AA, Adams MA.
[h=3]Source[/h]Section of Hypertension, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta 30912-3150.

[h=3]Abstract[/h][h=4]BACKGROUND:[/h]Depression is a potential side effect of antihypertensive drug therapy. Consideration of this side effect is a reason often cited by physicians for not choosing certain drugs.
[h=4]METHODS:[/h]In this prospective study the relative rates of depression were measured by the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) in patients from four hypertension treatment groups. Treatment groups consisted of 466 patients receiving: (1) no drug therapy, (2) diuretics only, (3) diuretics plus reserpine, and (4) diuretics plus beta-blockers. Demographic data including age, sex, and race were collected. Analysis of variance was used to compare the rate of depression among the treatment groups, as well as among age, sex, and racial groups.
[h=4]RESULTS:[/h]Using a Zung SDS index of greater than or equal to 50, 35.4% of the hypertensive population was depressed. Age and sex were not significant factors in the frequency of depression. Blacks scored higher than whites in all drug treatment groups except those treated with high lipophilic beta-blockers, but the rate of depression was not higher. Whites on the lowest dose of reserpine had the lowest rate of depression. The rate of depression among those taking reserpine or beta-blockers was no different than that among those receiving either no treatment or diuretics.
[h=4]CONCLUSIONS:[/h]Reserpine or beta-blocker therapy did not cause any more depression than any other antihypertensive treatment.

The suicide of V. Mahadevan, husband of carnatic vocalist Nithyashree Mahadevan, on Thurday was a big shock to music lovers, at a time when the ‘Music Season’ is at its peak in the city.
Nithyasree is the granddaughter of revered musician D.K. Pattammal (paternal) and Mrudangam maestro Palghat Mani Iyer (maternal). She has made a mark not only in carnatic music, but also in film music, after her debut for A.R. Rahman for the film Jeans.
According to police sources, 45-year-old Mahadevan, a mechanical engineer, had gone to fix a battery on his two-wheeler around 11 a.m. on Thursday and returned to his apartment on 4th Main Road Extension in Kotturpuram, where he resided with his wife and two young daughters.
He then took out his car along with driver Suresh after telling him that they were going to get the battery. Mahadevan who drove the car, however took a U-turn after taking the Kotturpuram bridge and came back on the bridge. He stopped the car, ran out and jumped into the Adyar River, police said.
Traffic came to a standstill on the bridge as Mahadevan’s white sedan was stranded on the middle of the bridge as he jumped with the car keys in his pocket. Suresh alerted the family members while police and firemen reached the spot and recovered Mahadevan’s dead body from the river in 30 minutes time.
Ms. Nithyashree told investigators that there was no misunderstanding between family members and her husband was terribly upset after the demise of his mother Shanta in April.
He was also taking prescribed medication for hypertension, police said. However, he was active in maintaining the singer’s programme schedule.
It was a long wait for family and media persons who had gathered at the mortuary of the Government Royapettah Hospital. While media had started trickling into the hospital premises as early as 2 p.m., some friends of the bereaved family arrived a little while later.
Around 3.15 p.m. two relatives, Nithyashree’s brother-in-law R. Sundararaman and her nephew Ajai Sundararaman, both, doctors at Apollo Hospitals arrived.
A friend of the family said media attention had caused the delay in bringing the body from the Teynampet branch of Apollo Hospital.

Dear TBS Garu,

The mind of a depressed person sees things differently.
All the logical explanation you have given above just simply does not apply in the mind of a depressed person.

We tend to view things based on our perception.
We have to be in the shoes of the depressed person to know how he or she thinks.

Depression is most commonly over looked in our Indian society.
It is often just thought as a temporary phase and the person is always kind of looked down upon as weak etc.

We are always taught to put our needs last and think of everyone else except ourselves, we often neglect our own needs and emotions....so depression is a taboo subject and no one dare be open about it.

Depression is an illness that needs careful monitoring, psychotherapy and also medication.

People generally have less sympathy for a depressed person.

Its like this..a person with Cancer is often viewed with sympathy cos of the impending death that sometimes follows.

Depression is Cancer of the mind...death usually follows if not promptly treated.

Don't blame anyone for it..some people are just wired up differently and also lack certain enzymes in their brain to function at what we call a normal level.

Dear Mrs Raji Ram,

I agree fully with your wise advise. Let us understand the pain of separation and not comment further on
the reasons. As the Latin saying "De mortuis nihil nisi bonum" Of the dead, say nothing unless good”.

hi renu ji,

well said...you are a doctor...you know better than me...when u compare with cancer with depression....physical illness can cured

through medicine...but mental health difficult to diagnosis....even psychology/psychiatric can prescribe some medicines....

but psychotherapy is very difficult....if we talk as an example...NOBODY HAS HAPPY REALLY IN THIS WORLD...EVEN ARJUNA

WAS UNDER DEPRESSION IN TH WAR... BUT SRI KRISHNA WAS GOOD DOCTOR/PSYCHIATRIST....ITS VERY DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND

THE INDIVIDUAL MIND.... we need more krishnas in our life....
