Yes..Yes..one mAnga is science and the other mAnga is Karma Theory!LOL

You see RR ji..sometimes all of sudden you get a westerner who develops sudden interest in Sanskrit for example and pursue it till great heights all too sudden and too easy as if they have known it before.

Our Purva Janma Karma sometime gets activated during a certain time in our life and we will be pursuing some new interest which is actually an old job unfinished in our previous birth!

They must have DISCOVERED that the ONLY way to get noticed is to talk in a foreign language!

Actually I am strongly under the impression that the westerners who had "discovered" everything were the same ancient Indians who were born again.

They were just rediscovering what they had earlier discovered.

I have heard that the Chithra Veena (known earlier as GOttuvAdhyam) exponent Sri. Narayana Iyengar is reborn as

the maestro Sri. Ravikiran and Flute maestro Sri. T. R. Mahalingam is reborn as Sri. Shashank!

How else can we justify the talents of the child prodigies? :blah:

I KNOW what you are talking about.
The right stimuli, at the right place
and at the right time does the trick!

Sowbagyavathy Amirtha, Greetings.

What do you think you are doing? If someone likes to believe in karma theory, just leave them be! Are you trying to change their belief? Why? If you don't believe in karma theory, why don't you just leave it at that. Tell you what, why don't you just start a thread on '23 chromosomes or just 'Natural Selection' ? let's have some discussion about genes, chromosomes etc.

Like you said everyone is unique. I respect your uniquness. It doesn't take long for a debate to turn into an argument.

Cheers!

Dear Shri Raghy

Points taken. I have no intention to upset V.R. Ok I'll start new thread "Karma and Chromosomes" How is that?

Kind Regards
Amirtha

Dear Amritha,

I have noticed that you seem to be inclined on medical related threads.
Are you in the medical profession by chance?

I second your proposal. And a gentle rap on your knuckle: please stop addressing her as Sowbagyavathy. She could be a scientist, may be a doctor, a la Richard Dawkins, or a pentecostal pastor...

It is becoming real hard to ask patients questions these days.
I had a not so elderly lady as a patient last week.
She is aged 59 and had some breast complains.

So you see if I am suspecting Cancer I need to know if the patient is married and has had children etc cos Breast cancer risk is slightly higher in a person who had never married, never had kids etc.

So I asked her "Madam are you married and single"

Patient was surprised and replied "Doctor I am an old lady"

I said "maam you are only 59 and I need to know your marital status to ascertain certain risks for you"

She says "You look at me ? What do you think ? Am I married or single?"

I was wondering what to tell her!

Then I said "I need to know if you are married or ever been married before"

Then she says "When I am so old..do you think I will be still single?"

I told her "Madam..there are lots of single unmarried people who are are old too..that's why I asked"

Couldn't she just tell me she is married!

Ok next case..

Another question I hate asking unmarried patients if they are sexually active cos unmarried does not mean not being pregnant.
Sometimes in Asia we take it for granted that an unmarried person will not be pregnant and prescribe antibiotics etc.

Ok so last week I asked a patient (Indian from Malaysia..she was wearing a black pottu)
I asked her "are you sexually active?"

She replies "Doctor I am wearing black pottu"

I was thinking what has the color of the pottu got to do with what people do at home after work!LOL
I have seen all sorts of pottus who are also pregnant out of the wedlock!

See what type of answers I get!
Can't they just say yes or no!

One case was this non indian girl who answered my question "are you sexually active"

She replied me '" I am not very active..it's my boyfriend who is the active one..I don't move much"

Dear Shri Naina (I beg your pardon if Shri is not the right or preferred way of addressing you).

I'm just curious. Can't or shouldn't scientists, doctors, atheists and pentecostal pastors who are female be addressed as Sow. My understanding of Sow is that its quite a complimentary, blessing of sorts, well thats the intent anyway. As long as its well meant, isn't it all good?

  • You can address them all as 'sow'-if you want to show disrespect to them and provoke them. I looked up the Oxford English Dictionary.

    Cheers

Sorry my bad. I am aware that 'sow' is a female pig. But what i meant was Sow/Sou(bhagyavathi). Raghy mama addresses me as Sow Amala all the time, i think. I'm not offended because i know he means well plus I know what Sow(bhagyavathi) means.

We are here to exchange ideas...:argue:
to convince the others or get convinced by them! :decision:
You are :welcome: at any time with any issue for a verbal duel!

Arguments do not upset me

Yes,you are right in your understanding about the intent. But I look at it differently.

Traditionally, honorifics used for any adult by Hindus include Sri (Shri, Sriman), and Srimati. Chiranjeevi, Sowbaghyavathi etc are commonly used by elders to bless younger people, especially when they offer their obeisances.

There is also the traditional honorific suffix such as Avargal or Avaall. Such traditional Indian honorifics are used especially in spiritual, and generational context, not in a social context.

These are part and parcel of Hindu socio-cultural belief sytems. So, if someone subscribes to a different belief system, be it atheism, rationalism, or a different religion, tagging such honorifics on them appears highly incongruous, especially when their belief sytem or emotional perspective is overtly scornful of traditional belief system.

I would not address someone as Sowbhagyavati Elizabeth Taylor or Sowbhagyavati Noorjahan, even in a context of blessing them. The same thing applies if one Hindu, in the guise of rationality, is scornful of another Hindu steeped in traditional orthodoxy.
