  • [h=3]Asia's tuk-tuks providing a wheel boost to Africa[/h] Omnipresent on the chaotic streets of Mumbai, Jakarta and Bangkok, Asia's three-wheeled "tuk-tuk" has now come to Africa -- and with a two-fold bonus: providing much-needed jobs and slashing accidents. Cheap to run and safer than the traditional motorcycle taxi, the auto-rickshaw is an increasingly common sight trundling along the traffic-choked streets of the continent's sprawling capitals. Known in Tanzania and Ethiopia as "bajaj", in Egypt as "toktok", in Nigeria as "keke-marwa" and in Sudan as "raksha", the tuk-tuk has now hit Liberia, where delighted locals have christened their own version the "kekeh".

[h=3]Indian army makes candidates strip to foil cheating[/h] India's army made candidates at a recruitment day in Bihar take a written exam in their underwear to prevent them from cheating, reports said Tuesday, after a spate of exam cheating scandals in the eastern state. Images in the Indian Express showed dozens of men sitting cross-legged in a field clad only in underpants, with many resting their test papers on their thighs, while a uniformed supervisor stood guard. The paper quoted an army source as saying they took the radical step to "save time on frisking so many people" after more than 1,000 candidates turned up.

What will they eat on the other 364 days of the year? :(

[h=3]Serving goodness on a platter: Activist urges people to feed poor on Roti Day[/h] ON FEBRUARY 14, at Fergusson College Road, the air was filled with love and yet, there stood a boy totally deprived of it. “We thought if there can be Valentine’s Day, Friendship Day, Rose Day, Saree Day and so on, why can’t we celebrate Roti Day — a day where we give rotis or bread to the underprivileged. If each person decides to give a roti to a poor person, one can imagine how many people we will be feeding,” says Kalyankar, a young Marathi theatre and film actor.

Very good initiative.
The ball is set on roll on the first day!
Let the divine force may extend some forces of sympathy on the rolling ball for the rest of the 364 days.

I know how much the wretched poor enjoy eating a square meal (as they say) at least once in way.

In Lioness Club we used to feed the poor on a day of the year with our own hands.

The little boys and girls sure had a huge appetite. They kept asking for annam (cooked rice) koora

(vegtable) chaaru (the two in one saambaar rasam ) and majjiga ( buttermilk)

We all were dead tired after feeding them but none of us were hungry since our mind was filled

happiness.

Hunger is the greatest curse of mankind. Also it is the greatest motivating force since but for hunger

and the necessity to earn a living, man would just curl up and hibernate - as many other animals do in

the winter.

The culprit has been identified at last!

[h=3]Fifty shades of gray (or more): gene for graying hair identified[/h] By Will Dunham WASHINGTON (Reuters) - They may not have settled the enduring debate over whether gray hair makes a person look distinguished or just plain old, but scientists have identified for the first time a gene behind graying hair. Researchers said on Tuesday an analysis of DNA from more than 6,300 people from five Latin American countries enabled them to pinpoint a gene that affects a person's likelihood of getting gray hair. The gene, called IRF4, is involved in regulating melanin, the pigment responsible for hair color as well as the color of the skin and eyes.
