Diamonds may be doomed and often leave a deadly trail! :fear:

[h=3]Shirley Temple's rare blue diamond ring fails to sell at auction[/h] (Reuters) - A 9.54-carat rare blue diamond ring once belonging to the late Shirley Temple, one of Hollywood's most famous child actors, failed to sell at a New York auction on Tuesday, where it had been estimated to fetch between $25 million and $35 million. The Sotheby's auction for the Fancy Deep Blue Diamond ring, purchased by Temple's father for $7,210 in 1940 around the time of the actress' 12th birthday, opened bidding at $19 million and closed at $22 million, which was below the ring's reserve price. "The Shirley Temple Blue Diamond is an exceptional stone in quality, rarity and provenance. It has been an honour to share its story with collectors, connoisseurs and Temple's loyal fans over the past few months," Sotheby's said in a statement.

Isn't it better to make name for oneself than than borrow the name made by someone else?

[h=3]A South Korean fried chicken joint has to pay Louis Vuitton $12,750 for using its name[/h] French luxury house Louis Vuitton is not one to mess with, especially if you're going to use its name to sell fried chicken. The owner of South Korean fried chicken restaurant "Louis Vuitton Dak" — tondak in Korean means whole chicken — has been ordered by a district court to pay a 14.5 million won ($12,750) fine to Louis Vuitton for using its brand name. The hefty fine was slapped on the owner identified only by his surname Kim, after he failed to comply with an earlier court ruling that banned him from using the Louis Vuitton brand name for his business. SEE ALSO: Balenciaga's latest It-bag looks a lot like Thailand's humble shopping tote According to The Korea Times, the logo for "Louis Vuitton Dak" also bore a close resemblance to the luxury brand's logo. Louis Vuitton had taken the matter to court in September last year, citing the "Unfair Competition Prevention and Trade Secret Protection Act" violation. It claimed that Kim using its name for a fried chicken restaurant was damaging the brand's originality and devaluing its prestige. The Seoul Central District Court ruled in Louis Vuitton's favour in October and ordered Kim to pay 500,000 won ($440) per day to the brand if he continued to ignore the terms of the order. Still adamant on being tongue-in-cheek, Kim changed its business name to "chaLOUISVUI TONDAK," which unfortunately did nothing to appease the brand. Louis Vuitton followed up by requesting Kim pay 14.5 million ($12,750) for using its name for 29 days. Despite Kim's argument that the second name was significantly different, the court ruled against him on Sunday and ordered him to pay up the stipulated amount. The court's statement is as follows: "The (Korean) name, which plays an important role in making a distinction, is still read in the same way, so we cannot say that the new name lies beyond the scope of the court's ban."

Chennai: After having shared screen space with top actors in the Tamil film industry for nearly three decades, actor Raja Krishnamoorthy aka Kitty, is now making the transition into politics as he gears up to contest the Velachery assembly constituency. The Kottivakkam resident, who was on Sunday spotted distributing flyers to visitors at the Valmiki Nagar beach in Thiruvanmiyur along with his family, friends and volunteers, is contesting as an independent candidate. Having started his campaigning from April 6, he said that he is keen on “directly meeting” at least 25,000 voters from his constituency en route his campaign trail as he believes ‘engagement’ to be a key aspect in ensuring successful governance. Asked about the decision to contest the polls, Kitty said that it was time for a representative action.

When the taxis compounds their fares, it is time to impound them! :)

[h=3]Surge pricing: Delhi govt impounds 18 taxis[/h] A day after it warned app-based cab companies Ola and Uber against charging customers more than State-prescribed fares, 18 vehicles were impounded by the Transport Department here on Tuesday. "The government is of the view that harassment through overcharging can have serious repercussions for the success of the ongoing odd even scheme hence the swift and exemplary action," said a senior government official. The Department had issued a notice to Ola and Uber warning them against overcharging customers through surge pricing - a demand and supply mechanism that ups fares automatically at locations with less availability of cabs - described as a quality control measure by the said operators. Transport Minister Gopal Rai is scheduled to address a press conference over enforcement action taken by the government shortly.

It is very good not to be very good in throwing things! :brick:

[h=3]Hong Kong leader testifies in 'glass-throwing' case[/h] Unpopular Hong Kong leader Leung Chun-ying gave evidence Tuesday in an assault case against a legislator who threw a glass at him in parliament, the first time a sitting chief executive has testified in court. A calm Leung occasionally broke into smiles as he was cross-examined by pro-democracy and anti-China lawmaker Raymond Wong, who is accused of common assault and was representing himself in a courtroom packed with supporters from both sides. It comes as he battles widening political divisions in the semi-autonomous city, with some young campaigners pushing for self-determination or outright independence from China as fears grow that Beijing is tightening its grip.
