Congress links GST Bill to intolerance issue

A day after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the government was willing to talk to the Congress, including its vice-president Rahul Gandhi, to resolve the parliamentary deadlock over the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, the Congress on Wednesday said the current environment in the country is not conducive for talks between the government and the Opposition. The Prime Minister and his government are arrogant and exhibiting confrontationist mindset,” said senior Congress leader Anand Sharma. The deputy leader of the Congress in Rajya Sabha also signalled that Parliament would function during the winter session only if the PM sheds the confrontationst mindset and makes a “real effort” to seek constructive engagement with the Opposition.

May be it will help to keep the price under control in the future!

[h=3]Centre hikes pulses MSP but experts say too little, too late[/h]In a bid to encourage farmers to grow more pulses amidst soaring dal rates, the Centre Thursday increased the procurement price of chana (gram) and masur (lentil) planted in the current rabi season by around 10.5 per cent. The minimum support price (MSP) for the two pulse crops has been raised by Rs 250 per quintal over their levels in the 2014-15 rabi season. [h=3]Bollywood divided on award wapsi and ‘intolerance’[/h]Circulated among members of the Hindi film industry, it appealed to the voters to choose a secular party to “protect the cultural diversity and pluralism of the country, which is secular, rejects communal hatred and embraces tolerance”. Undersigned by prominent names including directors Imtiaz Ali, Vishal Bhardwaj, Govind Nihalani, Zoya Akhtar and Kabir Khan, among others, it not only made news but also drew the ire from a set of other film personalities. Several, including Mukesh Bhatt (whose brother, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt was one of the signatories to the letter), Madhur Bhandarkar, Kirron Kher, saw this as an attempt to sabotage the chances of the Narendra Modi-led BJP at the Centre.

There is much money in Mythology!

[h=3]Harry Potter Characters Who Could Cameo In Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them[/h]J.K. Rowling is returning to the wizarding world with her Harry Potter spin-off, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, and the first pictures have sent Pottheads the world over into a tailspin at the prospect of paying another visit to Diagon Alley. The film is based on Rowling’s 2001 book of the same name, a fictional Hogwarts textbook penned by magizoologist extraordinaire, Newt Scamander played here by Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne. Here are four characters who could feasibly apparate in for a cameo… Albus Dumbledore Roughly 16 years older than Mr Scamander, it would be inconceivable for Newt not to happen across good old Dumbledore at some point during his adventures - either at Hogwarts or the Ministry of Magic. A sadistic dark wizard who murdered his way across Europe for the fun of it, Grindelwald was Voldemort to Dumbledore’s Harry Potter.

Whatever be the cause the effect is very very pathetic! :(

[h=3]British PM says bomb likely caused Russian airliner crash[/h]By Paul Sandle LONDON (Reuters) - British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Thursday it was increasingly likely a bomb brought down a Russian airliner over Egypt with the loss of 224 lives, and U.S. President Barack Obama said Washington was taking that possibility "very seriously". In a telephone call, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Cameron it was important that assessments of the cause of the crash be based on information from the official investigation, Interfax news agency reported. Egypt, which depends on tourism as a crucial source of revenue, said there was no evidence a bomb was to blame.

[h=3]Brangelina's 'By the Sea' deemed a big yawn by movie critics[/h]Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt teamed up for the first time on screen in 10 years for "By The Sea" but Hollywood's leading power couple on Friday got scathing early reviews for the movie, which some deemed a laborious vanity project. "By the Sea" was written and directed by Jolie Pitt and inspired by the grief she experienced over the death in 2007 of her mother. It focuses on the stale marriage of former dancer Vanessa (played by Jolie Pitt) and her husband, blocked writer Roland (played by Pitt).

[h=3]Our many Ramayanas: Writer Subhadra Sengupta on the Ramayana trail and its many offerings[/h]It is a splendidly various tradition, from the rationalism of the Jain Ramayana to the humour of the Mapilla Ramayanam. Every place that is said to have been blessed by the presence of Ram finds its place in the pilgrimage circuit in India. It’s quite a long list — beginning in Ayodhya where Ram was born, then passing through Chitrakoot in central India, Nashik in Maharashtra, Karnataka’s Hampi region (believed to be the kingdom of Kishkindha) and ending at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.

[h=3]Elvis Presley tops UK album chart again, 40 years on[/h]Nearly 40 years after his death, Elvis Presley is back at the top of the British album charts with his 12th UK Number 1 -- "If I Can Dream," a collection of Elvis classics featuring orchestral reworkings by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This means Elvis now has more Number 1 albums in the UK than any other male solo artist, and puts him level with Madonna in second place for the most chart-topping LPs, behind the Beatles, who have 15, the Official Charts Company said on Friday. Elvis claimed top spot with 79,000 chart sales, it added, giving him the second-fastest selling album of the year behind Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' "Chasing Yesterday." Rod Stewart landed his 34th Top 10 album with "Another Country," new at Number 2, while Elbow frontman Guy Garvey was third with his first solo release "Courting The Squall." In the singles charts, Adele was top for a second week with "Hello," Britain's fastest-selling record of 2015, keeping Justin Bieber's "Sorry" down in second spot.

[h=3]OROP in with one change, but veterans reject outright[/h]The defence Ministry issued the official notification for One Rank One Pension (OROP) for ex-servicemen late on Saturday evening. The government has reversed its contentious proposal to exclude ex-servicemen who had sought premature retirement from the ambit of OROP, but has not conceded the demands for an annual equalisation of revised pension, for pegging the pension to the maximum of the current pensioners, and for appointing an expert commission with serving military personnel and ex-servicemen representatives. According to the notification, the government will pay the arrears of OROP in four equal half-yearly installments.
