Think or sink!

Dear Sis,

OMG! There is a 'sangadhi' in this post!

Renu must know, I am sure. :)

Even if you guess it but please don't write it! :nono:

Dear RR ji,

When I saw the Give Me More! line I was thinking of Ajit Kumar in Mankatha Movie saying "Gimme More Gimme More"

When I was in India I used to hear people who played cards saying the word Mankatha!

I assume it is a game of cards..I don't know how to play cards and never played cards to..so have no idea what how Mankatha is played?

Anyone knows how to play Mankatha???

Dear Renu,

There is a game called 'mangAththA' and that is all I know.

But in 'MahAbhArathaththil mangAththA', a drama by S V Sekhar, I enjoyed this dialogue:

மங்காத்தா விளையாடும் ஒருவர்: "நாம குந்திகிட்டே வெளயாடலாமா?" (Can we play sitting down?)

பதில்: "ஐயய்யோ! குந்தி ரொம்ப நல்லவங்க! அவங்ககிட்டே நாம வெளயாடக் கூடாது!" :nono:

Attention - Renu!

Google search gave me this result:

Mangatha is a very simple and popular card game, mainly played by adults by betting money,

Kids play by betting tamarind seeds, matchbox labels, cigarette wrappers, bottle crowns, etc.

It's also known as "Ullae, Veliyae".

Things required to Play

  • Fair Playing cards – one deck
  • 2 or more players

How to Play

First the players fix the bet (E.g. Say both the players bet equal amount of tamarind seeds) and place it

on the table where they play

One Player from the group shuffles the deck and asks anyone in the group to pick a number and ask him where he wants the card ullae(in) or veliyae(out) (E.g. Say the player selects number 8 and tells ullae)

Now the player who has the deck starts throwing the cards in open in the table in two sets, one is named as Ullae (in) and the other as Veliyae (out)

If the card with number selected by player 2 first falls in ullae set then the player who selected the number wins the game and he takes all the tamarind seeds, but if it falls in the veliyae set all the tamarind seeds goes to the person who throws the card.

The winner takes the entire bet in the table.

P.S: I think, the player has to call for the number including spade, heart, diamond or clover too!

They might be playing with ONLY the number cards! Never seen this game. So :noidea:

dear Renu,

I too do not know about the game of cards.

(In fact I have never played indoor games.)

But the usual dialogue is "uLLE! veLiye!"

God knows what these mean!!! :noidea:

There is another silly card game for two players. It is called 'Fish'! :fish:

The pack of cards is kept facing down. Both the players take one card each. The one who takes the

greater number says 'fish' and grabs the other one's card. The two cards are kept as one set. The two

players get the chance to take the first card, alternately. The one who has more number of 'sets' wins!

Ace =14; King = 13; Queen = 12; Jack = 11.

I was thinking without sinking when
I was washing the vessels at the sink.

Has the kitchen become cramped now or
have I expanded to make it feel cramped?? :decision:

i was reminded of a cartoon I read as a child.

The mama in the cartoon would complain thus:

"These days the weavers cheat us terribly.
The same dhothi used to come for more than two rounds on my waist
ten years back but now I can hardly make the two ends meet!" :mad2:

Isn't ten years a long enough time to grow horizontally???

I have been here for more than 16 years! :dizzy:

There is another story! A super senior mother had problem to read small letters in the news paper. So her

senior son bought a pair of reading glasses for her. The next day she lamented, 'OMG! What a waste of money!

Only yesterday huge money was spent on my spects and today the letters are printed bigger!'

......... Isn't ten years a long enough time to grow horizontally??? ....

Do these words have a meaning

or made just to make people :dizzy:?

My dear Raji,
The award may belong officially to someone
but the actual job of putting an end to a thread
is done quietly or noisily ( I am not sure since I never read those posts)
is done by someone else.
Here the ender = destroyer and
not the one who closes it.
