Think or sink!

There was a time a few months/ weeks ago when NOTHING would
make me step out of the safety of the house whenever it rained.

My greatest fear used to be bad fall with severe adverse consequences. I would even skip the visit to the temple to attend the pooja.

So today when I was walking after the heavy rain we had yesternight,
people who saw me were truly puzzled/ baffled.

Some of them even stopped midway and asked me,
"Why are you walking on the wet tiles mam/mom/aunty/paatti?"

If strolling at snail/ tortoise speed can infuse so much confidence
how much will be confidence induced by The 12 leg strengthening exercises
done sincerely and regularly over a period of a few months' time??

I shall wait and watch and keep you posted of the results! :)

As a child, I used to wonder why my knees used to murmur when I placed my palms over them!

The popular expression used by me was "En muttu pEsarathu!" :ear:

Later on I found out that they make a wide variety of sound effects such as popping, snapping etc.

Most people crack their knuckles and find some relief when the fingers are really tired after performing laborious tasks.

I used to get scared when one of my friends used to make her neck bone crack in both directions . I used to freeze in fear imagining that her tilted neck might get stuck up in that angle for the rest of her life.

But pulling the toes of small children to make them give out the sound was a favorite past time for me. If the toes don't give out the sound at least the child will!

Pulling one's own toes might not be so much fun I guess. To be able to pull them, first of all we must be able to reach them!!! Right???

So what happens when we crack the joint wantonly or when they themselves start playing the background music on their own, as we start to walk???

Please read on to find out!

Your joints can make a variety of sounds: popping, cracking, grinding, and snapping. The joints that "crack" are the knuckles, knees, ankles, back, and neck. There are different reasons why these joints "sound off". Escaping gases: Scientists explain that synovial fluid present in your joints acts as a lubricant.

What causes the noise when you crack a joint? (Everyday ...

After an attack of Chikungunya (aka Chicken Guinea) in 2006, all the joints in my body went on a non-cooperation movement and a lightning strike.

At one point the physiotherapist had to work on the two bones Radius and Ulna in both my hands.
Ever since then they make a snapping sound the first time I turn my wrist every morning!

Hip exercise - sit to stand

The above exercise strains the knees to some extent and hence better to skip this one!

I skip this one alone!!

dear Raji,
I did not mention your name since I was afraid that I was entering into your privacy.

I wish I had started doing the exercises when you started a month (or more?) ago!

I was right about everyone/ everything listening to us from everywhere all the time. :ear:

The P.C chair which itself is quite sturdy and heavy pushed me down
when I tried to fix a thick heavy cushion on it for resting my back!

My unfortunate fall was in three steps while reconstructed in slow motion.

1. I stepped back a few steps and landed on my seat very neatly.

2. I fall back and hit my back on the box cum diwan cum bed cum nuisance now!

3. I banged my head on the edge of the box.

Since the mishap was in three layers the damage was not much.

Still I was awake half the night chanting the name of my ishata daivam
fearing that some symptoms may develop at late night.

Moral:
Never boast of anything...NOT even not fearing a fall anymore! :nono:

Is Gravity a friend or foe? :decision:

Old silk saris are unreliable for wearing and going out. To be true to their names of pattu sari,
they may give up at any point at any point of time with the silent background "pattu! pattu! "

So I use to waer them ONLY to the temple which is within walking distance from my flat.
In case of any mishap I can always go back home and change into something else.

I was amused when one of the ladies who always comes in new silk saris asked me whether
I was getting my sairs dry cleaned. The truth is that I am yet to step inside a dry cleaning shop.

That lady won't believe me when I told her that I used to wash the saris at home with Meeraa sihkaikkai powder and get them pressed for free - by placing the neatly folded sari wrapped in a
thin towel in between two hard broads under a heavy suitcase.

So gravity MUST be a friend. But when it causes nasty falls and causes fractures
gravity appears to be a FOE and NOT a friend!!!Right???

A useful tip:

Some colors are famous for 'running' with every wash.
CUSO4, Purple, shades of Green, shades of Blue etc.

To fix the color permanently, just keep it dipped in water to which
a table spoon of cooking salt has been added, during the first wash.

DO NOT use any other soap.

Thereafter the color will not run even if washed with strong soaps.
But it is best to avoid detergents/ strong soap for silk saris.

Anything used to wash hair on the head is good enough -
including kadalai maavu./ payaththam maavu / sekhikkai.

In A.P the ladies prepare a light kanji with moong dhal.
It works in two benevolent ways with the silk saris.

It acts as a mild detergent on the sari and removes oil stains etc.
After the wash it acts as a mild starch and gives the sari a character! :thumb:

Dear RR ji,

There are some exercises that strain the joints but do not skip it..eventually the ligaments around the joint strengthen and joint will be flexible and mobile. In fact this exercise in the video is a modification of chair pose(Utkatasana) in Yoga.

No pain..no gain the saying goes.

If its too painful at the beginning..go slow and do less reps.

There is a pose called Markatasana in Yoga for strengthening the knees..when you do it for the first few times the next day the knees hurt bad..after a few sessions of doing it regularly the knees become strong and does not pain.

Dear Sis,

I have already given the link of these 12 exercises in another thread a few days back and the advantages.

I also mentioned that I don't spare a separate 'time' for this but do them while typing, cooking and watching TV!

I had a new experience yesterday! It was a simple wedding celebrated in one of my relatives' sweet home itself.

An egg-less cake was prepared by a near and dear one and the 'Cake cutting ceremony' followed the wedding

ceremony. One lady asked what song to sing for this!

icon3.png
....... On the spot, I composed a song 'Cake-u vettinAL thogai cake-u vettinAL' in the tune of 'MAlai sAtrinAL thogai

mAlai mAtrinAL' and asked the group to repeat each line, as I sang. This gave me ample time to compose the next line.
Wow!!
Everyone enjoyed the Asu kavi song with :clap2: !

Enjoy the original song :
Maalai saatrinaaL

Small wonder Smt. Raji Ram is given the title of Aasu kavi :sing:

which I changed into Raasu kavi ( to include her name in the title)! :)

Quick thinking and quite clever. Is it thogai or kOdhai (in 'MAlai sAtrinAL thogai mAlai mAtrinAL' )

Dear Renu,

I remember my age when I do the exercises! :D

Dear RR ji,

Age is no barrier..in fact we limit ourselves by thinking age slows us down.

Its all about getting back the lost flexibility.

When I was a teen I could do the splits..back bend fully to the ground cos of my training for state levels sports.

Over the years I did not bother to keep up the flexibility level even though I did do other cardio exercises..now at the age of 45 just one year of Yoga I can do my back bend again and even more flexible than I was as a teen.

The body needs some challenges to get back its "lost" flexibility..in fact that is what the Suryanamaskar is all about..bringing back the lost flexibility.

Therefore age stops nothing.

Dear Prof. Sir,

Sorry for the error in the original lyrics. It is 'KOdhai' in the original which I changed to thOgai,

since the bride was clad in a beautiful mayil kazhuththu color
a saree!! :)

Dear Renu,

Very true! I don't think of my age all the time but I do only the minimum needed exercises to keep my body flexible.
BTW, TVK Sir posted a write-up of Sri. Sujatha in chit chat forum and hope you can read it and enjoy! :ranger:

As he says ''Life is full of progressive compromises''. :)

Composing new songs in known tunes is very interesting. :)

I heard a new song in the tune of our national anthem, sung by an Ayyappan bhajan group.

I made my own song for a pooja in our family circle, just for fun and here it goes:

ஜனங்களின் மனக் குறை போக்கிடும் தேவா!

பாரினில் பாக்யங்கள் தா! தா! - அஞ்

சாத நெஞ்சுடனே மண்டலம் ஒன்று,

சாதுவாய் விரதங்கள் நோற்று,

சிந்தையில் உ
ன்னையே தியானம் செய்து,

தந்தை போல் குருவைச் சேர்ந்து,

இரு முடி கட்டி வருவோம்;

திருவடி தரிசனம் செய்வோம்
;

Can the forum have the luck of listening to this sweet song in your sweet voice please???

If any one can fall in love hearing a voice I bet he/she will,

on hearing Mrs. R.R's cheerful sweet musical voice!!

I can see that chudidhar is catching on with women of all ages
in all stages of life in all sizes and with all ailments of old age!

But the aesthetic sense seems to have been lost- as it usually happens when something spreads faster than it should have, or someone is put on a stage before he/ she is ready for it.

Some had Extra large dicky while some other had Extra large bonnet. Some were impartial and had both extra large fittings at both sides. One lady reminded me what Poothagi must have looked like with the unmistakable "Enda Amme Effect!" :faint:

Who is talking about intolerance while the tolerance of the menfolk can't be better than it is now!

Obesity seems to be problem right from teen age and it is rather rare to find slim girls around!

Since churidhar covers the body, it is better than a low hip saree exposing the mid region to frighten others!! :fear:

:thumb: for the new trend!!

My dear Raji,

It sure covers the body but one is reminded of the
various three dimensional figures including spheres!!!

The ultimate obscenity is when they stand like men
with their legs wide apart on the roadsides.

Today I saw real Jumbo on the pillion seat of a scooter.

Wonder how the young man managed to carry her around
when she was fluffy like whipped up cream in every direction!
