Think or sink!

If singing a song in Hamsaanandhi alone can itself cause tears flow from mye eyes,
what to say of the chain of raagaas namely Naada naamakriya followed by Hamsaanandi and then Sindhu Bhairavi.

I don't know how to put it really!

Was I singing while crying or was I crying while singing.

In any case every one was moved to tears by the song - which is an achievement for me.

Tears mean anubhooti and I need NOT feel ashamed to feel it while immersed in soulful singing in front my favorite deity in a temple. :)

Dear VR ji,

This happens to me too when I sing some Bhajans..I don't know why..its not that I am the Bhakti types but I do have tears in my eyes at times..but only when I am alone.

If I sing when others are around I would be smiling while singing!LOL

Soul stirring music alone does not make one !

Some musicians make my  by their orphan music! :dizzy:

Foot notes: Sruthi mAtA; Laya pitA! ;)

Dear RR ji,

In another thread some last week about SP Bala...where his greatest regret is not learning Carnatic Music...What I can't understand is he sings so so well and has such a wonderful voice range/tone etc even without having a formal voice training of any kind so he can actually learn Carnatic music now even if he wants cos he would surely be able to sing anything.

I was thinking why no Carnatic music teacher has offered to teach SPB? Surely he would be such a wonderful student!

Dear Renu,

S P B needs no formal training because he has already reached the peak.

Carnatic music is a good base for versatile singing but it is NOT essential to learn it for versatile singing! :)

In fact, good voice and good ears are enough, IMHO.

Dear RR ji,

I have a question..why is it so much easier to sing Hindi filmi songs but not easy to sing Tamil filmi songs?

Almost anyone can handle Hindi songs..in fact out here even Non Indians can sing Hindi songs well but fail miserably when they attempt Tamil songs.

Dear Renu,

May be, we should ask the Tamil filmi song composers!

I guess, the songs based on Carnatic classical rAgams have many 'gamakams' and hence tough to handle.

BTW, don't the folks there handle even the songs similar to 'kola veRi' song or 'vEndAm machchA(n) vEndAm' song? :D

Dear Renu,
I cry every time I hear this song ( as I am doing now) or try to sing it!

Simple Tamil songs with deep meaning invariably move me to tears.
My mother used to sit and hear my singing with closed eyes, while she stayed with me..
One day she told me that I am using music as an outlet for all my pent up emotions!
She was absolutely right.
Music can make me happy /serious / sad and I love the Nava rasa in singing just as I used to do in dancing.

I beg to differ madam

Its pretty simple.

all it requires is some will power and not hogging food.

if you have a bad cook it will automatically come down without exercising ones limbs

Dear Mr. krish,
Talking to me about will power is like preaching Gita to Lord krishna.
I am surviving ONLY because of my will power!
My physiotherapist can assure you about the truth behind this.
Otherwise I might have become an invalid long ago!

Dear RR ji,

Indians out here handle most songs well..usually when concerts are held..Dapankuttu types of songs are not usually song cos I don't thinks its easy to handle such songs..so mostly singers opt for melodious songs where flaws can be easily concealed.

The auspicious numbers seem vary from state to state in India.

In T.N, 51, 101, 501, 1001.... as well as 108, 1008, 10008 .... are all very auspicious numbers.

In A.P the auspicious numbers are 116, 1116, 10116.... and also
58 (since 116/2=58)

Today a Kannadiga girl donated for the Thaip poosam annadaanam an amount of 111 Rs.

I made me smile since we relate the number 111 with both the word Govindha and oordhva puNdram i.e, two vertical white lines on the forehead with one red line in between them.

P.S.

I can't help comparing something here. :)

The thread Sriman Naaraayaneeyam is about Govindan

Apparently 11 people like that thread.

But all I got out of it is an oordhva pundram or

two white and one gopi in the middle!

The sticker on a pair of wollen socks read "Thumb".

Thumb of a one's foot?

No! It just meant that the socks had separate compartments for the big toes.

In Hindi it is called Angottiwaalah. The literal translation became "Thumb"!

But We can't complain about the same word being used for both a thumb and a big toe. :tape2:

Does not Hindi use the same word for the past tense as well the future tense???

Dear VR ji,

Last month (Dec 2015) we had a string of holidays all in a row..so I was closed for some 4 days in a row.

A patient from the Indian subcontinent asked me why as a doctor I was taking holidays and not serving people 24 hours a day!LOL

I told him I work 12 hours a day on Monday to Friday and half day on Saturdays..so I do have to have my breaks too since I am the only doc running the show here.

He was still saying that a doc is not supposed to take a holiday or even sleep or even eat regular meals unless they see patients!..... and in India doctors stay above their clinic and see patients anytime of the day.

He was going on irritating me....so I told him this..I acted like a total goody two shoes and said "I have my duty towards my family too..a woman is a wife and mother first...only then she is a doctor....duty to even God can wait till she has fulfilled her duty to her husband and family first..even the rain will only fall when a woman is dutiful to her family"

He just shut up after that!LOL

That is why its really great being a woman! ..One can use all this Pati Parameshwar dialogue to escape any situation!LOL

Even when organizations come to the clinic to ask for donations and if I do not want to donate..I also tell them "I need the consent of my husband to donate..just give me your contact number and if I get his consent I will call you..till then do not call me"

They would be very surprised and also sometimes laugh asking how come an educated woman cant make her own decisions?

I would reply 'I am a very dutiful wife"

So they would just have to leave!LOL

But my other female doc friends...usually are forced to donate cos they do not use my techniques..they are afraid people will think they are not woman of substance!LOL

For me I give a damn what others think as long I escape from situations!

Using spouses name is convenient many times even for men in many situations.

In fact one can get away with a lot using wife card.

I liberally use it when I transact with women.

They realise the boundaries that cannot be breached while transacting with husbands of other women.

so women are interesting people with their own code of conduct .

A male should not use it too much cos some females actually find that sexy!LOL

They should only use the wife card when they want to escape from an obsessive female.

Otherwise they should also let other females drool and then play the wife card if the situation gets too drooly!LOL

many women talk about their husband when some men try to get a little intimate with them.

It acts like a protection kavach cooling down the fine feelings of men.

deep down they might enjoy all the attention that outside male gives them.

but their morality does not permit open display of emotion for outside male.

men would like to imagine they are the most desirable elements if a girl as much says hello and acts civil

where are the obsessive females you talk about?

Most would be thinking whether the maid is looking after her kid home in her absence or what vegetable to buy for the

evening when men try to make flirty conversation.

there are very few unbalanced women . most of them are down to earth with no thought of anything fancy with menfolk.

if some try throwing themselves at men, men can play the wife card selectively as you suggest.

you are always wise and more evolved.

when I am in doubt , I go shamelessly to knowledgable people for advice and act blindly on given advice.

I believe most around me are wiser than me. That approach has given me rich dividends

Alternatively act instinctively and hope for least damage

Dear Krish ji,

A woman only talks about her husband right away when the male who seems to be interested in her is unappealing to her or too brazen in approach.

That is when the Kavacham is used!LOL

Believe me...I am female..I know better.

Otherwise most normal females would enjoy some amount of harmless attention too.

Even men do not talk about their wives right away if they find a woman appealing!

Everyone gets their dose of harmless attention..oldies get it all the time cos by virtue of their age they can talk to both young and old individuals.

Now coming to living smart..I believe in the concept of a Sattva Harem.

That is one should "realize" who our decent admirers are and be on good terms with them as friends cos we might need their help some day or the other and a person who admires us would surely help us out and we too should render help when needed.

There is no need to acutely openly flirt with any male if one is married but the concept of a Sattva Harem is good so that we have a few Sattva admirers in the Harem that might proof to be beneficial from time to time.

But if the Sattva Harem member turns Rajasic..then membership would be terminated and those in the waiting list can take the place.

Ha Ha Ha

You made my day.

I like the sattva harem concept.

If the harem gets overcrowded, how does expulsion take place?

mataji avathar has to come in to answer this query.

your act is perfect and well reasoned.

It is good to have baggage carrying admiring males around for help on a rainy day.

Dear Renu,
In Hindi the concept that Time is continuous like a perennial river and can flow
both in the forward and the backward direction is emphasized I guess!
How else can we explain the same word meaning two different periods of time?
Kal = yesterday OR tomorrow.
Parso = day before yesterday OR day after tomorrow.
Most often both the words are used together like "kal parso .....!"

Overcrowding can be handled easily.

One's intentions too should be Sattva that is do not have 2 admirers of the same kind..only one of each type..so that the boat does not get overfilled.

Moderation is the key.

Next..one has to use Viveka and do not get attached to any member.

Practice detachment...so that one can drop a member anytime when you no longer need his services.

For example if one harem member was holding a post in some organization that we would also benefit from..and once his term as president or chairman of that organization is over..he can be dropped becos he would be no use to us anymore.

Dear VR ji,

If the future tense is used..the Kal means tomorrow.

If past tense is used..the Kal means yesterday.

Strange but true!

Sanskrit is better organized that way.

Dear Renu,

'Pati Parameswar' attitude comes in handy when those who interact with you DO NOT KNOW your husband. If they do then there is another method to evade the situation easily.

It is what my dad had talked to us about when we were young.

He said," It is very useful to project one's spouse as a tiger-in-human-form so that later on one can escape from any situation saying that one's spouse will not approve of it."

If one is married to a tiger-in-human-form by the cruel play of Fate, than one need not even have any feeling of guilt while projecting one's spouse as a tiger in mufti.

Why should one feel guilty for speaking the sterling truth? :)
