Think or sink!

Yesterday I saw two little girls walking with their skipping ropes wound round their neck!
I spoke to them and warned then NEVER to put anything round their neck in the future.
The accidental strangling of children in the SAFETY of their own home is alarming!

These chords look slim and sleek but they are strong enough to bear the weight of an adult without snapping! :scared:

The vociferous mami (who might be a sitting duck but never a silent duck)
had a bad fall while she bent down to take something from the floor and broke her left wrist.

She wavers in the air like a dry leaf but is NOT
ready to use a walking stick to prevent a bad fall.

She is a good decade years older than me but feels TOO SHY to use a stick
while I have been using the walking stick for nearly 5 years now!

I have to repeat what I HAD SAID A FEW MINUTES AGO!
It is far better to be safe than to be sorry! :thumb:

We do not know the value of the things we have at home.

I used to teach veenaa as long as I was able to sit on the floor.

After that I stopped taking veenaa class but continued to practice everyday
sitting on the diwan and letting my legs hang down.

The small veena used by the students was kept unused since 2008.
One little girl wanted to buy it for her use.

When my husband visited the musical shop he was shocked to learn that a new full size veenaa costs nothing less than 16K!

I remember how I had to close all my R.D a/cs and scrap money from all the other a/cs to pay through the nose for my veenaa bought in 1980!

The price then was just 800Rs and even that amount was so hard to come by in those days!

Manhole??? :decision: Black hole???

The number of deaths of the manhole cleaners is alarming

making one wonder whether it is a manhole of a black hole???

As usual ONE man working and 100 men watching it! :(

I will never go down that poisonous filthy narrow circle for all riches in this world! :bolt:

YET the thoughtless women and girls continue to :der:

flush their sanitary napkins through their toilets! :frusty:

The toilet is only for flushing the 'mall' and not the 'cotton ball'!

Sometimes it hard talking to people who keep talking about God instead of addressing any situation.

When we discuss with them some problem etc but they only say''pray to God and ask Him for a solution"

I feel its better to say "I do not know or have no solution of I do not want to help you" instead of giving replies like this.

I have stopped discussing any problem with some who are blood related to me cos of their inability to leave God out of the equation.

Anything and everything is "O' this is happening cos you do not pray...O' this is happening cos you have no faith in God"

Just have to delete such people from my list.

The next time they ask me for medical help..I am going to reply 'Go see God for treatment"

Dear Renu,

Baby elephants start growing tusks quite early!

Tusks

Asian elephant eating tree bark, using its tusks to peel it off.

The tusks of an elephant are modified incisors in the upper jaw. They replace deciduous milk teeth when the animal reaches 6–12 months of age and grow continuously at about 17 cm (7 in) a year. A newly developed tusk has a smooth enamel cap that eventually wears off. The dentine is known as ivory and its cross-section consists of crisscrossing line patterns, known as "engine turning", which create diamond-shaped areas. As a piece of living tissue, a tusk is relatively soft; it is as hard as the mineral calcite. Much of the incisor can be seen externally, while the rest is fastened to a socket in the skull. At least one-third of the tusk contains the pulp and some have nerves stretching to the tip. Thus it would be difficult to remove it without harming the animal. When removed, ivory begins to dry up and crack if not kept cool and moist. Tusks serve multiple purposes. They are used for digging for water, salt, and roots; debarking or marking trees; and for moving trees and branches when clearing a path. When fighting, they are used to attack and defend, and to protect the trunk.[SUP][72]

Dear Renu,

In all medical experiments some of the volunteers are given placebos in stead of the real medicines.

Mind over Matter is true in every field of human activity.

Placebos cure many people since they believe it is real medicine and not make-beleive-medicines

So at best we can accept God as a placebo who will treat all our problems.

Actually Prayer keeps us focused on what we really want to achieve and makes us strive and move in that direction.

Prayer has many advantages.

The least is that we accept that there is power HIGHER than us which can help us. This thought itself will help us a lot since we know that wishing for something is not the same as winning it merely by our efforts.

placebo
pləˈsiːbəʊ/
noun
noun: placebo; plural noun: placebos

  • a medicine or procedure prescribed for the psychological benefit to the patient rather than for any physiological effect.

    • a substance that has no therapeutic effect, used as a control in testing new drugs.

    • a measure designed merely to humor or placate someone.
"pacified by the placebos of the previous year, they claimed a moral victory"

"Chase your dreams!" is what Tendulkar has told the world.

Sure but we can chase our dreams ONLY when we know WHAT is our dream!

Prayer helps us to identify our dream so that we can chase it with unified concentration.

My father's favorite poem embroidered on the screen of his consulting room goes thus:

God and the Doctor we alike adore,
But only in danger, not before!
And when the danger is over
God is forgotten & doctor slighted!

I meet the same persons everyday during the morning walk .
But they are all men of all ages and avoid eye contact and walk past silently.

It was not to my liking. If we have to meet one another every morning, we can as well greet one another every morning. :yo:

So i decided to break the ice and wished every one of those gentlemen I crossed yesterday, "A very good morning!"

It was as if they had been waiting for this gesture from me. Every single person smiled back and wished me heartily. Some of them addressed me as 'aunty', some others as 'mam' and a few others as 'mami'.

Today before I could wish them they wished me first. It is a nice feeling to greet people and be greeted by them early in the morning.

When the meeting is inevitable, the greeting and smile can brighten the rest of the day for every one of us! :)

It is said that a woman must put out her hand - if she wishes to shake hand with a man-

and a man should never stretch his hand first seeking a hand shake from her!

Probably this is true of all the other form of greetings between men and women.

Men find women mysterious and confusing and feel confident when the first move
of greeting comes forth from the woman herself!

I remember how a young man was pulped to a squash by a tough ruffian
because the friendly young man dared to smile at his girl friend! :boxing:

Maargazhi is a magical month - no doubt.

But it is also a sweet month pushing the HbA1c high up!

The prasadam given in the temple is charkkaraip pongal and panchaamirtam-
both are enemies of people with diabetes! :(

Wishing to bring down the glucose average of 3 months as low as possible
and as quickly as possible, I over did my part - as I always seem to be doing! :(

I drank water with fenugreek soaked in it. I ate bitter gourd everyday.
I cut off sugar completely - -sacrificing even the half teaspoon I used to add in my coffee.

So what did all these lead to?

On the night of the New Moon Day - just after eating tiffin with bitter gourd curry and fenugreek kuzhambu , instead of feeling energetic I could feel the energy being drained from my body- as if it was getting earthed.

I was not confident enough to stand on my legs. I felt light headed and the entire world seemed to become bright and surreal!

I know the symptoms of hypoglycemia. I kept a small piece of jaggery in my moth and sipped water to dissolve it and send it into my stomach slowly.

It was 20 minutes before I felt near normal! But I dared not do my usual chores then!

Moral of the incident!:

Too much of bitter gourd + fenugreek is as bad and probably more dangerous than too much sugar.

I told the flower seller to bring for me stringed jasmines on certain days of the week.

She came but with flowers which have bloomed fully and lost all their fragrance
since she always came well past 8 P.M.

The flower became light brown the very next day.

I thought it is better to buy 250 grams of loose jasmine flowers from the market, string them and store them in the fridge.

It bought early during the day ( before noon) and kept in the fridge in an airtight container it will remain fresh half buds even for one full week.

But my luck would not part with me. :(

The flowers had traveled the length and width of the city before they were handed over to me
- almost hall cooked in the plastic carry bag they were purchased and taken along in the hot sun!

I realized why the professional sellers of flowers buy the flowers early in the morning,
always make them into loose bundles in wet cotton cloth pieces torn from the old saris.

The flowers breathed and survived the travel by bus/ auto and still kept fresh!

The flowers had air, water and breathing space very much needed for survival
-whether it is for a man or a woman or a baby or just a flower.

We had a surprising summer shower on the night of 8th inst.
It was sudden, surprising and and very pleasant.

The smell of soil ( aka MaNN vaasanai) was fascinating.

I wished to stand in the rain to celebrate the shower
but I did not dare to catch a nasty cold.

All the same I managed to catch a cold due to the
sudden transition in the prevailing temperature! :(

It is not just we who enjoy a shower - from the sky or from the shower head.
I have seen two goldfish in the pond in my elder son's backyard. :rain:

One of the two is very naughty and wants to enjoy a shower -
despite floating in water all it life.

There is a water fountain from the mouth of a fish sculpture, to fill the fish tank.

When the water flows, the naughty fish swims and stays at the right spot
to enjoy the shower falling inside the water tub - right on its squiggly back.

The birds fly and soar in the sky...much to our envy!
But it appears as though that is not enough for them.
They also want to swing in the air as children do in the parks!

So some of the birds settle on slender branches
strong enough to support their weight without snapping
but light enough to swing under their weight.

They may have to perch with one leg below the other
buy they definitely enjoy the swinging all the same! :)

Some people are attributed with Sarpa dosham.

I do not know what is the significance or the pariharam for this

since I believe in the "NaaL en seyyum... koL en seyyum?" concept.

But I guess there is some connection between the dosham and the person

who can wind his legs and hands into impossible postures and knots!!

I had to talk to the receptionist of a hospital to fix up an appointment. :clock:

It so happened that she apologized thrice in two minutes! :sorry:

I suggested her to get the name changed to Apology Hospital. :)

The servants and attendants employed to take of the seniors in the house will do their duty properly and with due respect, ONLY when they see the master/ mistress (who has appointed them) pay respect to the helpless senior citizen in the house.

The moment the realize that the family members lack respect for the seniors, these attendants will do exactly the same.

I still remember how an old lady - the widow of a major general - was unable to tear open her medicines from the strong and shiny foil packing and would ask the attendant to peel the pill for her.

He would reply to her ever so rudely "Kudh hee karlo! Main naheen karoonga!!"

Now the son and D.I.L of that grand old lady- who must have died of a broken heart more than due her diabetes - are going through a lot of hardships...wondering, "WHY is this happening to us?" :pout:

Have you ever stopped to notice and wonder how....

The runner of the zipper of colorful bags given as compliments would come off the zip ASAP!

The new road laid overnight will become pock marked with potholes ASAP!!!

The vital stitches of a ready made shirt open up ASAP!

The houses constructed for the poor like a 'mayan maaLigai' will fall to rubble ASAP!!!

The anaconda like flyover - the pride of the city - will collapse as 'an ACT of God' ASAP.

Any of you wonder what is this 'ASAP' which has become the part and parcel of the modern life???

ASAP is the sweet short abbreviation of the long "As SOON As Possible!" Got the idea???
