Think or sink!

Dear Sis,

You missed to notice that Bala Sir is in the news and he teaches shorthand to some youngsters! (Ref: Photos)
Congrats Bala Sir! :clap2:

Yes dear Raji,

You are absolutely correct!

Indeed I have missed the gist of the news. :tsk:

The reasons for this are several!

1. I have never seen our Bala Anna.

2. I am very weak in geography! :(

3. I failed to see the Ambathur connection!

4. I did not guess he would so modest and post something

(without stating that it is all about him and his achievement!)

5. Anyone else would have proclaimed this kind of news to the whole world! :horn:

Anyway thanks for bringing this to the notice of me and other like me - who may not understand the significance of this post!

Congratulations to Shri Balasubramanian sir (of Ambattur) for his accomplishments and recognition of his achievements.

The article I read ( Attention Students: Put Your Laptops Away ) stresses the importance of taking notes by hand.
http://www.npr.org/2016/04/17/474525392/attention-students-put-your-laptops-away
First two paragraphs of that article:

"As laptops become smaller and more ubiquitous, and with the advent of tablets, the idea of taking notes by hand just seems old-fashioned to many students today. Typing your notes is faster — which comes in handy when there's a lot of information to take down. But it turns out there are still advantages to doing things the old-fashioned way."

"For one thing, research shows that laptops and tablets have a tendency to be distracting — it's so easy to click over to Facebook in that dull lecture. And a study has shown that the fact that you have to be slower when you take notes by hand is what makes it more useful in the long run."

No doubt old is gold..

Throw away ball pens engage in speed typing on laptops.

I prefer writing still to a great extent becos when we write down we remember better.

That is why when I study I rewrite all my notes and my text books too.

When I was young my room wall used to be full of my writing. My father used to have to paint my wall over and over again!LOL

I write what I studied to reinforce my memory.

Even now when I read any text..I make notes and re write some important facts.

Typing on a lap top does not reinforce memory.

I have noted that over usage of laptop/smart phone etc leads to irresponsibility and memory of people are not as good anymore cos they feel they can always Google search it and no need to remember.

Dear Renu,
You are absolutely correct. Writing down helps to store the info in our memory rather than IN A PC OR A LAPTOP.
When all our personal info is stored somewhere which a clever person can manage to enter,
he will know more about us than we ourselves will remember. Which is not very safe.
It is equivalent to leaving the front door of the house open and going out on a long vacation!

Some of my friends claim that they DO NOT know their own cell phone number!

In the past all learning was by listening and memorizing what was heard.

Since manuscripts were on palm leaves and producing many copies would be difficult

the guru must have had a bunch of the palm leaves while the disciples has nothing

but their clean clear mind and 100% concentration to gain knowledge!

I hope the day will not come when people would forget their own names!

"Never ask the salary of a man and the age of a woman!"
is a very sound and wise advice... have no doubts! :)

The old time actresses turned up to witness the fund raiser star Cricket match.
( I am NOT using the word OLD actresses even though it is more appropriate!) :)

Most people were beyond recognition thanks to the ravage caused by age.
They were hiding behind goggles of the size of a Dosai making pan.

Some had bright pink bindi ( of the size of a rupee coin)
I know Bindu is supposed to be a dot! So it was only a bindi and not a bindu!

Their full lips were drawn in bright purple color.
The hair was let loose all around the face like the rays of the Sun!

What more does one need to disguise. :spy:
Oho! I am forgetting the main point.

The announcer kept repeating "Pazham Perum nadiagaigaL.....":blah:

One such star kept cursing in an undertone
"chumma pazham perumnu sollikitte irukkaan." :mad2:

Now tell me honestly which woman would like to identified with both these adjectives
'Pazhasu' (old in age and old in circulation) and 'perusu' ( a dig at their current size!!!) :tsk:

The names of the teams are macho and scary to some degree! :fear:

Here is the complete list of team which is going to participate on the celebrity cricket league.

Here is the complete list of team which is going to particiapte on the celebrity cricket league

  1. Chennai Singams
  2. Madurai Kaalais
  3. Nellai Dragons
  4. Tanjai Warriors
  5. Tiruchi Tigers
  6. Ramnad Rhinos
  7. Salem Cheetas
  8. Kovai Kings

Wonder they forgot KARADAI AND MUTHALAI ? :)

The opposite of 'pazhasu and perusu' must be :ohwell:

'puthusu and sirusu' or 'iLasu and melisu!'

Some of my friends claim that they DO NOT know their own cell phone number!......
:becky: People remember only the numbers they dial frequently! :phone:

With phone book available on cell phones and mobile type landline phones, we tend to forget the numbers since we use the list!

I remember my cell phone number because I selected it! :thumb:

Some how the cell phones numbers of both me and my husband are very easy to remember.
They involve the dates of birth and years of birth of all the four of us in our family and a portion of the landline number!

Recap #5.

Sympathy wave can work wonders during the election.

The experiences in the past have proved this beyond any doubts.

But for the first time I watched self-induced-sympathy-waves and tear shedding!

He spoke so well that it created a tidal wave of sympathy that the audience broke down into tears

shedding the tears caused by the tidal wave. :tsk:

To make old men very angry, we need say 'pazham perum manithar!'.

But 'pazham peruchchaaLi' or 'pazham thindRu kottai pottavar'

is good enough to produce the same visible effect!! :mad2:

After my husband underwent prostrate removal surgery, he needed some medicines urgently.

We requested a friend to get those medicines after giving him the prescription and money.

He told us to put away the list and money promising to get the medicines when he goes 'that side!'

"That side" is the junction connecting our road to the main road - may be half a mile long!

We had no idea of when he will be going 'that side' and so got the medicines through another friend.

I am glad he did not use the same logic to put off a mutual friend who suddenly suffered stroke and

needed to go to a hospital immediately. If he had told him

"Anthap pakkam porapOthu kootti koNdu pogiren! what would have happened

to the mutual friend who needed emergency treatment?

Delay by every single minute counts while getting help for stroke patient...right???

Leader of Every single political party takes pride in announcing that he would write off all the loans taken by the farmers and the students!

So one man asked, "Are those who paid back the loans fools?
Will they get back the money they had paid back to their banks?"

A good question and I bet the answer can never be equally good!

If we sow the idea in the minds of the borrowers that it is OK if they DO NOT repay their loans, do you think any one man will be good enough to repay his loan?

One leader went three steps further by demanding that

1. the family of the farmer who committed suicide must get a compensation of 25 lakhs ( for what service/achievement ???)

2. his loan must be written off.

I am glad he did not insist on giving a government jobs to all the children of the farmer!

Yaaru kaasai, yaar yaarukku, yaar eduthuth daanam seivathu?

The super smart fellows take loans, buy property abroad and settle down in peace and prosperity!

The simpletons are told not to repay their loans and get more money for not repaying the loans!

So is it the meddling-middle-middle-class that bears the brunt by

grinning and bearing the loans of both these types of people??? :mad2:

My father used to say in a lighter vein that

"Whenever some people visit a house for a vacation

whatever is not firmly fixed to the ground will be missing."

Kleptomaniacs may take then in a clandestine manner.

I remember the paatti in Kamall's Micheal Madana Kaama Raajan!

The one who has most influence in the household will dare to grab everything openly!
