The pretty Miss!

There was this pretty miss,
Whom everyone wanted to kiss;

But she knew how to dismiss,
Those adventurers with a hiss!

"Was she made in Scenic Swiss?"
"Was she a storehouse of bliss?"

53. For Want Of a Nail



For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.

For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.

For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

This rhyme contains a series of events following one another in a logically progressive manner! The causes and effects are listed in an amazingly impressive manner to the children.

The child is taught that a seemingly unimportant event or a thoughtless action may end up in creating very serious problems later in life!

The references to the horses, the riders and kingdom etc indicate the English origin of the rhyme. Most of the English Kings did not leave anything to chance.

King Edward III commanded obligatory practice of archery on all holidays and Sundays. This was to make sure that his archers remained in good shape!

Benjamin Franklin included a version of this rhyme in his Poor Richards Almanack.

During the World War II, this verse was framed and hung on the wall of the Anglo American Supply Head Quarters in London, England.

I am sure you don't need the footnotes for this word for word translation!
However I would like to share with you an observation I have made.

The use of 't' for 'd' and 'd' for 't' between German and English makes me think that
the switching of these letters was done for a specific purpose - to make the two languages stand out as different languages!

More examples are tanzen = to dance, trinken = to drink, denken = to think, durst = thirst.

Even when the spelling remains the same, the pronunciation will differ. The word 'Blind' spells the same and means the same in both languages but in German it is read as 'blint'
 
Babysitting is a lucrative hobby/ profession!

The cool baby sitter

The cool baby-sitter
Was also a go-getter.

She acted like a blotter,
With words soft as butter.

Whenever you feel bitter,

Thank God for those Nine lives...!

It saw its food in the bowl,

A retired Professor from Madras and his team make pancakes for about 70 homeless people
once in a month. Others take over on the other days and nights of the month.

It is heartwarming to hear that for ~ 1$ per person they are able to provide the B/F.

How I wish people will spend less on their dining-out and contribute liberally
to sate the hunger of the less fortunate brothers and sisters!

There is no shortcut to become a master in one's field.

When keep doing the same thing over and over again, it gets better and better.

It is said that one should sing a song or dance for a song in a public performance
without having practiced at least 100 times before the program.

Now we see singers come to the dais with notebooks/ laptops/ tablets and whatnot!

Thankfully dancers can't carry anything and have to rely on someone prompting from behind one of the many screens in both sides of the dais.

Is a silent dog more dangerous than a noisy dog?
