During my son's wedding in Chicago, we got to meet all his colleagues and their secretaries.
They were very nice people and they congratulated us for the way we had brought up our sons.

Subsequently we were invited to the farewell party arranged by his department colleagues.
I met a very handsome guy with a brilliant smile. No wonder he was the chosen one to perform the experiments in front of the T.V. Camera!

We got into conversation. He told me that he too had married an Asian girl - a Korean. He went on to say that his in-laws were visiting him right then. His wife would show them around and accompany them on their shopping sprees.

He himself did not know a word of Korean language and his in-laws did not know a word of English.

I asked him,"How do you communicate with them then?"

He replied giving me one of his brilliant smiles and said,

"I will give them a smile and get out of their way as quickly as possible!"

I asked him, "So your smile will be invariably followed by your disappearing act?"

He chuckled heartily and said, "Yes you may say so!"

Disappearing Acts come in very handy in everyday life when

1. we do not KNOW to communicate,

2. when we do not WISH to communicate and

3. when the 'cat gets our tongue' and we become tongue-tied!

In my opinion Silence is GOLDEN even otherwise
 
We often put off or neglect a work / chore, hoping to save some time. But someone will appear unannounced and waste the time - we originally wanted to save.

When we are least presentable, we will get all the rare and unusual visitors!

When the house looks as if struck by a mini tsunami, some special people will arrive hoping to 'give us a surprise' and get 'properly surprised' instead! o_O

One characteristic of human beings has always interested and intrigued me!

A short person always comments on the heights of the others.

To 'Cut the Gordian knot!'

Phrygians were without a king at one time. Next man to enter the city driving an ox cart should become their king - as predicted by an oracle!

Gordias a peasant farmer drove into town on an ox-cart. He was declared by the priests as their new king. In gratitude, Midas his son dedicated the ox-cart to the God Zeus and tied it with an intricate knot.

When Alexander arrived, Phrygia had been reduced to a province of the Persian Empire.

Several themes of myth converged on the chariot

Midas was connected in legend with Alexander's native Macedonia, where the lowland 'Gardens of Midas" still bore his name.

The Phrygian tribes were rightly remembered as having once dwelt in Macedonia.

So, in 333 BC, while wintering at Gordium, Alexander the Great attempted to untie the knot. When he could not find the end to the knot to unbind it, he sliced it in half with a stroke of his sword, producing the required ends

This is the famous "Alexandrian solution"... Solving a difficult problem with one bold step.

That night there was a violent thunderstorm. Alexander's prophet took this as a sign that would grant Alexander many victories.

Once Alexander had sliced the knot with a sword-stroke, his biographers claimed in retrospect that an oracle further prophesied that the one to untie the knot would become the king of Asia.
 
My father used to reflect on human behaviors
in an analytical way.

The G.M or M.D. of an organization

When my elder son started learning about Fractions in his school he started playing a new game in Mathematics.

Whatever he wanted should be given to him by the count of three! So it should actually go "One! Two! Three!"

But if the thing does appear before him by the count of two, he would divert to a different way of counting.

After 2 it would become 2 and 1/16, 2 and 1/8, 2 and 3/16, 2 and 1/4 , 2 and 5/16, 2 and 3/8 etc until he reached 2 and 15/16!

By that time surely anyone would have given him what he wanted!

It was fun game in mathematics, helping him learn the importance of fraction and their correct order too! :love:
 
Some people who PERSIST in making themselves a nuisance are fondly called as "the pain in the neck!" I saw one such mami holding her head at an odd angle.

It turned out to be that she was just suffering from a pain in the neck.

The words that flashed in my mind were...A pain in the neck' for 'THE pain the neck'?

"திருநெல்வேலிக்கே அல்வா"வா?

"கொல்லன் தெருவிலே ஊசியா?"

"கடுக்காய் கொடுப்பது" என்று கேள்விப்பட்டுள்ளேன்!

எதுகை மோனைக்காக அது கூறப்படுகின்றதா?

வேறு பொருள் உள்ளதா? அறிந்தவர்கள் கூறலாமே !
