Think or sink!

During my son's wedding in Chicago, we got to meet all his colleagues and their secretaries.
They were very nice people and they congratulated us for the way we had brought up our sons.

Subsequently we were invited to the farewell party arranged by his department colleagues.
I met a very handsome guy with a brilliant smile. No wonder he was the chosen one to perform the experiments in front of the T.V. Camera!

We got into conversation. He told me that he too had married an Asian girl - a Korean. He went on to say that his in-laws were visiting him right then. His wife would show them around and accompany them on their shopping sprees.

He himself did not know a word of Korean language and his in-laws did not know a word of English.

I asked him,"How do you communicate with them then?"

He replied giving me one of his brilliant smiles and said,

"I will give them a smile and get out of their way as quickly as possible!"

I asked him, "So your smile will be invariably followed by your disappearing act?"

He chuckled heartily and said, "Yes you may say so!"

Disappearing Acts come in very handy in everyday life when

1. we do not KNOW to communicate,

2. when we do not WISH to communicate and

3. when the 'cat gets our tongue' and we become tongue-tied!

In my opinion Silence is GOLDEN even otherwise

We often put off or neglect a work / chore, hoping to save some time. But someone will appear unannounced and waste the time - we originally wanted to save.

When we are least presentable, we will get all the rare and unusual visitors!

When the house looks as if struck by a mini tsunami, some special people will arrive hoping to 'give us a surprise' and get 'properly surprised' instead! o_O

Women can also cheer or jeer! :giggle:

He was like a cock who thought that the Sun had risen to hear him crow.

I am not
denying' that women are foolish.
God Almighty made 'em to match the men.

A blush is no language; only a dubious flag signal
which may mean either of two contradictories. :decision:

Quotes by George Eliot. (Mary Anne Evans)

Points to Ponder:-

1. Revolutions may be set off by trifles!

2. BUT a revolution is never about trifles!

3. Revolutions restore Justice.

4. Dark deeds and dawn will reveal themselves.

5. Foul play and Fraud end in Failure.

'Go with the flow' and
'zip your lips' are NOT
for everyone in the world.

One characteristic of human beings has always interested and intrigued me!

A short person always comments on the heights of the others.

A dark skinned person invariably comments on the skin color.

So also one with unsightly teeth will comment first on the teeth of the others.

This list can go on...!

The point I wanted to state is this:-

A confused man brands others as confused;

a rogue brands others as rogues and

a bully brands other bullies!

An Interesting trait? OR An Irritating trait?

The wearer will soon find out
where the new shoe pinches him!

Lack of imagination has to be
filled up by actual experiences!

Experience runs a tough school.
But fools will learn nowhere else!

Vultures celebrate the death of any animal

and feed on its flesh and carrion!

Why would any animal shed tears

on the death of a vulture?

Unless it happens to be the great Jataayu-

who fought valiantly beak and claw-

to save Sita from the wicked clutches of Ravana-

and gave up his life in trying to uphold his Dharma?

He had earned the tears shed by Sri Rama

by his goodness and his selfless act of valor.

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

21a. Das Billige ist immer das Teuerste.

21b. The cheapest is always the most expensive.

WHY?
Because invariably it will get spoilt soon and
we have to buy a new one - paying through the nose.

Footnotes:-
Billige = cheap
immer = always
Teuerste = most expensive

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

22a. Dienst ist Dienst und Schnaps ist Schnaps
.
22b. Service is Service and booze is booze

Message conveyed:-
Woks is work and drink is drink. Do not mix up both!

Footnotes not necessary since the meanings are word for word in the same order.

To 'Cut the Gordian knot!'

Phrygians were without a king at one time. Next man to enter the city driving an ox cart should become their king - as predicted by an oracle!

Gordias a peasant farmer drove into town on an ox-cart. He was declared by the priests as their new king. In gratitude, Midas his son dedicated the ox-cart to the God Zeus and tied it with an intricate knot.

When Alexander arrived, Phrygia had been reduced to a province of the Persian Empire.

Several themes of myth converged on the chariot

Midas was connected in legend with Alexander's native Macedonia, where the lowland 'Gardens of Midas" still bore his name.

The Phrygian tribes were rightly remembered as having once dwelt in Macedonia.

So, in 333 BC, while wintering at Gordium, Alexander the Great attempted to untie the knot. When he could not find the end to the knot to unbind it, he sliced it in half with a stroke of his sword, producing the required ends

This is the famous "Alexandrian solution"... Solving a difficult problem with one bold step.

That night there was a violent thunderstorm. Alexander's prophet took this as a sign that would grant Alexander many victories.

Once Alexander had sliced the knot with a sword-stroke, his biographers claimed in retrospect that an oracle further prophesied that the one to untie the knot would become the king of Asia.

My father used to reflect on human behaviors
in an analytical way.

The G.M or M.D. of an organization
who terrorizes his subordinates
will be as sweet as a lamb at home.
He will let his wife rule him!

The peon who rides on rough waves during the
working hours will turn a terrorist at home-
taking out his vengeance on his wife.

So everybody wants rule the others
and also be ruled by some others.

Isn't this a funny trait is us? ?

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

24a. Freunde erkennt man in der Not.

24b. Man recognizes his friends when in need.

Footnotes:-
erkennt = recognise, acknowledge
Not = need, hardship, necessity, distress, trouble, difficulty

When my elder son started learning about Fractions in his school he started playing a new game in Mathematics.

Whatever he wanted should be given to him by the count of three! So it should actually go "One! Two! Three!"

But if the thing does appear before him by the count of two, he would divert to a different way of counting.

After 2 it would become 2 and 1/16, 2 and 1/8, 2 and 3/16, 2 and 1/4 , 2 and 5/16, 2 and 3/8 etc until he reached 2 and 15/16!

By that time surely anyone would have given him what he wanted!

It was fun game in mathematics, helping him learn the importance of fraction and their correct order too!

Some people who PERSIST in making themselves a nuisance are fondly called as "the pain in the neck!" I saw one such mami holding her head at an odd angle.

It turned out to be that she was just suffering from a pain in the neck.

The words that flashed in my mind were...A pain in the neck' for 'THE pain the neck'?

"திருநெல்வேலிக்கே அல்வா"வா?

"கொல்லன் தெருவிலே ஊசியா?"

"கடுக்காய் கொடுப்பது" என்று கேள்விப்பட்டுள்ளேன்!

எதுகை மோனைக்காக அது கூறப்படுகின்றதா?

வேறு பொருள் உள்ளதா? அறிந்தவர்கள் கூறலாமே !
