BHAARGAVA PURAAANAM - PART 1
1a. KAmanthan – 1
A honest merchant named Chithroopan lived in the city Kollam near Vindhya mountain. His wife Soluchana gave birth to a son KAmanthan who married Kudumbini at the right age. They got twelve children and their family had grown large.
After the demise of his parents KAmanthan became infatuated with women. He neglected his business and spent all his energy, time and money with lowly women of no virtue.
Kudumbini could not make him change his manners. The business ended in a heavy loss and there was no more income. Now KAmanthan started selling his property.
As long as he had money to pay, he was welcome in the houses of those women. The moment he became bankrupt the doors would be closed on his face.
Kudumbnini went to live with her mother since she could not stand the sight of her starving children. KAmanthan had lost all his assets and properties by now and he took to stealing, mugging and looting the virtue of innocent girls and young women.
The citizens complained to the king about this horrible man. The king promptly banished him to the forest. He met some more thieves and thugs in the forest and became an expert in his chosen career as a full fledged thief.
