BHAARGAVA PURAANAM - PART 1

7a. The Wedding proposal – 1

Brahma had requested JnAna shakti and KriyA Shakti to be born as his daughters. The two shaktis agreed to this. They were born as Buddhi and Siddhi. They grew up to become beautiful maidens.

Brahma decided to get them married to VignEswar. NArada rushi knew about this. He hurried to Kailash and spoke to GaNapathy.

“Brahma sought you grace. He prayed that your two shaktis must be born as his two daughters. Accordingly they are born as his two daughters Buddhi and Siddhi. They both wish to marry you.

The beauty of the girls was extraordinary. Their feet were like the lotus flower petals. Their fingers were the red corals. Their heels were short and beautiful.

Their ankles resembled the quiver of arrows. Their thighs were like banana stems. Their hip was like the forehead of an elephant. Their stomach was as flat as a leaf.

Their breasts were young and firm like immature coconuts. Their waist was as thin as a creeper. Their neck resembled the conch. Their lips were red and plump. Their teeth were like rows of pearls.

Their eyes reminded the onlookers of fish and their eyebrows of bows. Their hair was as thick as the rain clouds. Their faces were as round as the full moon."

GaNapathy happily agreed to marry these two beautiful girls. Now NArada went to Siddhi and Buddhi and praised about GaNapathy sky high. He next went to Brahma and reported everything he had done.

3#10e. கண்டவர் விண்டிலர்

“காண்பவன் அதைச் சொல்வதில்லை!
காண்பதில்லை அதைச் சொல்பவன்!

உடலின் பயனைக் கருதிய வேடனே!
அடிக்கடிக் கேட்கிறாய்? விந்தை இது! ”

அருள் பாடலைச் சத்தியவிரதன் பாட
அருள் சுரந்தது வேடன் மனத்தில்.

பன்றியை மறந்து விட்டுச் சென்றான் வீடு;
பண்டிதன் ஆகிவிட்டான் சத்திய விரதன்.

ஜபித்தான் விதிப்படி கங்கைக் கரையில்,
அபிவந்தனம் செய்தனர் பிற முனிவர்கள்.

புகழ் பரவியது நான்கு திசைகைளும்;
மகிழ்ந்தனர் புகழ் கேட்ட பெற்றோர்

விரைந்து வந்தனர் மகனைக் காண!
விரும்பி அழைத்துச் சென்றனர் வீடு.

உளறியதோ பன்றி எழுப்பிய ஒலி!
உணர்ந்ததோ பீஜாக்ஷர மந்திர ஒலி!

அத்தனை வித்தைகளையும் அளித்துச்
சத்திய விரதனைக் கவி ஆக்கினாள்.

'காமதா' என்ற பெயர் உண்டு தேவிக்கு!
நாமெதை விரும்புகின்றோமோ தருவாள்!

3#10e. “The Seer speaks not…”

“He who sees it does not speak about it. He who speaks about it does not see it. Oh hunter! You are so much concerned about the welfare of your body and keep asking me the same question again and again”

Satya vrathan sang a song which created mercy in the heart of the hunter. He forgot about the pig he had wounded and went back home.

Satyavrathan was a full fledged poet and pundit now. He did japam on the banks of river Ganga in the prescribed manner. He was honored and respected by the other sages and seers.

His fame spread far and wide. His parents became very happy to hear about him. They came to meet him and were happy to take him back home with them.

Satya Vrathan had imitated the grunt of a pig but Devi took it as the recitation of her bheejaakshara mantra and blessed him with complete knowledge.

One of the names of Devi is 'Kaamadaa' – meaning 'one who fulfills all our desires'.

9#5a. சரஸ்வதி துதி (1)

மறந்து விட்டார் யாக்ஞவல்கிய முனிவர் - தாம்
கற்றவற்றை எல்லாம் குரு அளித்த சாபத்தால்.

சூரியனை அடைந்து துதித்தார் சோகத்துடன்;
சூரியன் கற்பித்தான் மறந்தவற்றை மீண்டும்.

"பதிய வேண்டும் கற்றவை மனத்தில் என்றால்
துதிக்க வேண்டும் கலைமகளை உளமார நீங்கள்"

துதித்தார் யாக்ஞவல்கிய முனிவர் கலைமகளை;
துதித்தார் சிரம் தாழ்த்தித் தம் உள்ளம் ஒருமித்து.

"அன்னை நீயே அனைத்து உலகங்களுக்கும்;
சின்னத் தனமாகச் சாபம் பெற்றேன் குருவிடம்.

அருள்வாய் ஞானத்தை, நல்ல நினைவாற்றலை!
அருள்வாய் வித்தையை, நிலையான புத்தியை!

அருள்வாய் நூல்கள் இயற்றிடும் ஆற்றலை எனக்கு;
அருள்வாய் நூதனக் கருத்துக்களை ஆய்வின் போது.

வித்யா முளையை என்னுள் ஊன்றி அருள்வாய்!
வித்யா முளை தழைத்து ஓங்கிட நீ அருள்வாய்!

நமஸ்காரம் பிரம்ம வடிவான தாயே உனக்கு!
நமஸ்காரம் பரஞ்சோதி வடிவான என் தாயே!

நமஸ்காரம் சகல வித்தைகளின் அதி தேவதைக்கு!
நமஸ்காரம் சகல கலைகளுடைய அதி தேவதைக்கு!

விசர்க்கம், பிந்து, மாத்திரைகளில் ஊடுருவி
விளங்குகின்ற தாயே! உனக்கு நமஸ்காரம்!

வியாக்கியானத்தின் வடிவாக விளங்குபவள் நீ;
விளக்கத்தின் விளக்கமாக விளங்குபவளும் நீ!"

9#5a. Saraswati stuti (1)

Muni Yajnavalkya forgot all the Vedas due to the curse of his Guru. He went to the Sun God and with a very sad heart. He practiced austerities for a time until Sun became visible to him.

Then BhagavAn Soorya Deva became pleased and taught him all the Vedas with their Angas and said, “Now sing hymns to Saraswati Devi that you get back your memory.”

Thus saying, the Sun disappeared. The Muni YAjnavalkya began to sing hymns to the VAg Devi, the Goddess of Speech with his mind overflowing with devotion.

"Mother! Have mercy on me. I have lost my memory power due to my guru's curse. I am now void of learning and have become powerless! My sorrow knows no bounds.

Give me knowledge, learning and memory power! Give me the gift of imparting knowledge to my disciples and the ability to compose books. Bless me with good disciples endowed with genius and ready wit.

In the council of learned men my intelligence, my power of argument and my judgment must be fully known. Let everything I have lost by my bad luck, come back to me! Let them be renewed as the sprouts growing out of the heaps of ashes.

O Mother! You are of the nature of BrahmA! You are superior to all. You are of the nature of Light! You are Eternal! You are the presiding Deity of all the branches of learning. So I bow down again and again to you.

O Mother! You are the Visarga, Bindu and MAtra! You are the exposition and you are explanation of SAstrAs!"

#7b. திருமணக் கோலம்-2

பாலகனின் திருமணத்துக்குத் தேவை
பாலகன் பெற்றோரின் பூரண சம்மதம்.

பார்வதி, பரமசிவனைப் பணிந்த பிரமன்
“ஆர்வம் கொண்டேன் திருமணம் செய்ய

அருமைக் குமாரிகள் சித்தி, புத்தியரைப்
பெருமை பெற்ற பிரணவ ஸ்வரூபனுக்கு;

பார் புகழும் முழு முதல் தேவனுக்கு;
ஓர் எழுத்தை உருவாக உடையவனுக்கு”

ஈசனும், உமையும் மன மகிழ்ந்தனர்;
நேசத்துடன் அணுகினர் கணபதியை;

புத்திரிகளை மணம் புரியச் சொன்னதும்
பூரண சம்மதம் தந்தான் கரிமுக நாதன்

முழுமுதற்கடவுளின் திருமணம் என்றதும்
பழுதற்ற ஏற்பாடுகள் செய்யலுற்றனர்.

சகல லோகங்களுக்கும் சென்றது அழைப்பு
சத்யலோகத்தில் நிகழும் மண விழாவுக்கு.

ஏவாமலேயே தோன்றியது ஒரு புது நகரம்
தேவச் சிற்பி விஸ்வகர்மாவின் திறமையில்!

மாட மாளிகைகள், மற்றும் கூட கோபுரங்கள்,
கனி மலர்ச் சோலைகள்; பளிங்குத் தடாகம்;

மணம் வீசும் மலர்க்கொடிகள், பூச்செடிகள்,
கணநேரத்தில் உருவாகி விட்டன அங்கே!

மணமக்கள் அமர இரத்தின ஆசனங்கள்;
மணம் காண வந்தவருக்கு ஆசனங்கள்;

தோரணங்கள், அஷ்ட மங்கலப் பொருட்கள்;
பாவை விளக்குகள், அழகிய பதுமைகள்!

கற்பகத் தருவும், காமதேனுவும் இணைந்து
அற்புத வரவேற்பை அளித்து உபசரித்தன.

தேவர்கள், அசுரர்கள் வேற்றுமைகள் மறந்து
தேவாதி தேவன் திருமணம் காண வந்தனர்.

#7b. The wedding arrangements – 2

To perform the wedding, Brahma needed the consent of the parents. He paid obeisance to Uma and Siva and spoke to them with reverence,

” I wish to marry my two daughters Siddhi and Buddhi to your son VignEswar. He is the PraNava swaroopan. He is the first and foremost God of the world. He has EkAksharam as his mantra.”

Uma and Siva consented happily for the wedding. Next Brahma approached VignEswar and got his consent too. The wedding arrangements started in full swing.

The invitations were sent out to all the worlds. The wedding was fixed to take place in SatyalOka. Viswakarma created a new city in no time. The city had numerous palatial houses, flower gardens, fruit gardens and ponds etc.

Gem studded seats for the brides and groom and for the guests of honor were made ready. The whole city was decorated with thoraNa, and eight auspicious articles. Paavai lamps and beautiful statues decorated the city.

KAmadhEnu and Karpaga vruksham gave a befitting welcome to all the guests. The DEva and asura forgot their enmity and rejoiced in attending the wedding together.

3#11a. சாத்வீக யக்ஞம்

செய்வர் அந்தணர் சாத்வீக யக்ஞம்;
செய்வர் அரசர்கள் ராஜஸ யக்ஞம்.

செய்வர் அசுரர் தாமஸ யக்ஞம்;
செய்வர் ஞானியர் ஞான யக்ஞம்.

தேசம், காலம், இடம் கருதி யக்ஞத்தைத்
தோஷங்கள் இன்றிச் செய்வது சாத்வீகம்.

அந்தணர்கள் ஈடுபட வேண்டும் தூய்மையாக.
மந்திரங்கள் ஒலிக்க வேண்டும் தவறு இன்றி

திரவியம் இருக்க வேண்டும் – கர்த்தாவே
தர்மானுசாரமாக உழைத்து ஈட்டியதாக.

அன்னியடரிடமிருந்து கவர்ந்த திரவியம்
இன்னல் விளைவிக்கும் யாகப் பயனாக!

ராஜசூய யாகம் செய்தனர் பாண்டவர்
ராஜ்ஜியம் இழந்து சென்றனர் வனம்!

அவமானப் பட்டாள் பாஞ்சாலி சபையில்!
அஞ்ஞாத வாசம் செய்தனர் ஊழியர்களாக.

மந்திர தோஷம், திரவிய தோஷம் தரும்
சந்தேகமின்றி இன்னல்களையே பயனாக!

இந்திரனின் யாகத்தில் குரு விஸ்வரூபன்
மந்திரத்தால் வேண்டினான் அசுரர் நலனை.

கொள்கையில் மாறுபட்ட குருவைக் கொன்றதால்,
கொண்டான் பிரம்மஹத்தி தோஷத்தை இந்திரன்.

திரவிய தோஷம் இருந்து – அதுவே தந்தது
சரிவினைப் பாண்டவர்களுக்குப் பயனாக.

சாத்வீக யக்ஞம் செய்யவேண்டும் குற்றமின்றி.
சாத்வீக உணவையே உண்ணவேண்டும் கர்த்தா.

3#11a. Sathva Yagnam

The Brahmins perform Satva yagnam, the Kshatriyas perform the Raajasa yagnam and the asuraas perform the Taamasa yagnam. Gnaanis perform gnaana yagnam.

Satva yagnam must be performed in the appropriate place and time without any dosham or mistakes. Pure Brahmins must take part in it.

The mantra must be chanted properly without any mistakes.The money spent for the yagnam must be earned
by the karthaa (the doer of the yagnam) himself in a dhaarmic manner.

The wealth looted or stolen from another person – if used for the yagna – will yield problems and sorrow as the fruits of yaaga.

PaaNdavaas performed Raajasooya yagnam. They lost their country and had to go for vana vaasam. Paanchaali was disrobed in the sabha of Kouravaas. The PaaNdavaas and Paanchaali had to live disguised serving another king as common people.

The yagnam performed by PaaNdavaas had dosham in the wealth spent for it. The yagnam performed by Indra had mantra dosham in it.

Satva yagnam must be performed without any defect or mistakes. The doer of the yagnam must eat only saatvic food during the yagna period.

9#5b. கலைமகள் துதி (2)

"சாங்க்யா ரூபிணியாக உலவுகிறாய் கணிதத்தில்!
சந்தேகத்தைப் போக்கும் சித்தாந்த வடிவினள் நீ !

நினைவாற்றலும் நீயே! அறிவாற்றலும் நீயே!
ஞான சக்தியும் நீயே! கற்பனா சக்தியும் நீயே!

மோனம் சாதித்தான் பிரமன் சொல்லும் வன்மையின்றி!
ஞானத்தின் உட்பொருளை சனத்குமாரர் வினவிய போது!

துதித்தான் உன்னைக் கிருஷ்ணனின் கிருபையினால்;
போதித்தான் - சொல்லும் வன்மையை நீ அருளியபின்.

பூமகள் கேட்டாள் அனந்தனிடம் ஞானம் பற்றி;
பூமகளுக்குக் கூற இயலவில்லை அனந்தனால்!

கசியபரை அடைந்தான் அஞ்சிய அனந்தன் - உன்னைத்
துதித்த பின்னர் இயற்றினான் ஓர் அரிய சித்தாந்தம்.

வியாசர் கேட்டார் வால்மீகியிடம் ஓர் ஐயத்தை;
விரும்பினார் வியாசர் புராண சூத்திரத்தை அறிய.

பேசாமல் மௌனமாகிவிட்டார் முதலில் வால்மீகி;
போதித்தார் சித்தாந்தத்தை உன் அருள் பெற்ற பின்.

தியானித்தார் கலைமகள் உன்னைப் புஷ்கரத் தீவில்
வியாச முனிவர் நூறாண்டுகாலம் இதற்குப் பின்னர்.

வரப் பிரசாதம் அளித்தாய் நீ வியாச முனிவருக்கு!
வல்லமை தந்தாய் வேதம் திரட்ட, புராணம் இயற்ற!"

"Without you existing as the numbers, no mathematician can count anything. You help us to arrive at definite conclusions known as SiddhAntas. You remove all the doubts of everyone. My obeisance to you!

You are the memory power! You are the true knowledge! You are the power of sharp intelligence! You are the power of imagination! So I bow down to you again and again.

When Sanat kumAra asked Brahma for a solution, Brahma was unable to solve the problem and remained speechless like a dumb person.

Sri. Krishna advised Brahma to praise and sing hymns to you - the Goddess of speech - to get his desires will be fulfilled. Then the four-faced Brahma did as advised by the Lord. He praised you Devi Saraswati and by your grace, arrived at a very nice SiddhAnta and conclusion.

One day the goddess Earth asked a doubt to Ananta Deva. He was unable to answer her and remained silent like a dumb person. He became afraid and went to sage Kashyapa. he praised you as advised by Kashapa. Then he could clear the doubt and came to a definite conclusion.

Veda VyAsa once went to VAlmeeki and asked him about some Sootras of the PurANAs, Muni VAlmeeki got confused and could not reply. Then he remembered you, the Mother of the world. He was able to answer the question by your grace.

#7c. திருமணக் கோலம்-3

நடன மாதர்கள் குழுமி இருந்தனர்
நர்த்தனம் ஆடி மகிழ்ச்சி ஊட்டிட.

முனி சிரேஷ்டர்கள் விவாதித்தனர்
தனிப் பெரும் வேதங்கள் குறித்து!

நவமணி அணிகள், பட்டாடைகள்,
கவர்ந்தன கண்களைக் கருத்தை!

புனித நீராடிய கணபதி தேவனுக்கு
இனிய அலங்காரம் செய்தார் நந்தி.

இடையில் பட்டுப் பீதாம்பரம் ஒளிர,
இணையற்ற நவரத்தினகள் மின்ன,

காதுகளில் மகர குண்டலங்கள் ஆட,
கரங்களில் பொன் அணிகள் விளங்க,

கண்டோர் மயங்கினர் கணபதியின்
விண்டற்கரிய மணக்கோலம் கண்டு.

துவாதச ஆதித்யர்கள், தேவ சமூஹம்,
ஏகாதஸ ருத்திரர்கள், திக்பாலகர்கள்;

ரிஷப வாஹனத்தில் உமை, சிவன் ,
மயூர வாகனத்தில் ஷண்முக நாதன்,

தேவகணங்கள், பூத கணங்கள் செல்ல
தேவமாதர்கள் சுற்றினார் ஆலவட்டம்.

நாரணன், நான்முகன் நல்வரவு கூற,
நகர்ந்தது ஊர்வலம் மண்டபம் நோக்கி.

வாணி ஊற்றிய கங்கை நீரில் பிரமன்
பணிவுடன் கழுவினார் பாதங்களை.

அழகில் போட்டி போட்டனர் அங்கே
அருமைச் சகோதரிகள் இருவரும்.

தேவ துந்துபிகள் ஓங்கி முழங்கிட,
வேத கோஷங்கள் ஓங்கி ஒலித்திட,

கன்னிகாதானம் செய்தனர் பெற்றோர்
கன்னிகள் இருவரையும் கணபதிக்கு.

மலர்மாரி பொழிந்திட மகிழ்ச்சி பெருகிட
மன்மதனை நிகர்த்த கணபதி தேவன்

தந்தான் தரிசனம் அனைவருக்கும்
தன் இரு தேவியர்கள் சமேதனாக.

7c. The wedding – 3

The apsarAs had gathered to entertain the guests with their divine dances. The rushis were discussing about the Veda. GaNapathy had the auspicious bath and was decorated by Nandhi.

New silk clothes were worn by the bridegroom. The ornaments studded with nine gems glittered. He wore makara kuNdalam in his ears and gold ornaments in his arms and wrists. The guests were bewitched by the beauty of Sri GaNapathy.

The twelve AadhithyAs, the eleven RudrAs, the eight Dik pAlakAs, the Deva, Siva and Uma seated on Nandhi and Skanda seated on his peacock accompanied GaNapathy along with the Deva gaNam and Bootha gaNam.

The DEva womenfolk did Alavattam to the groom’s group. The procession went towards the wedding maNdapam. VishNu and Brahma welcomed everyone. VaNi poured the Ganga water and Brahma washed the feet of GaNapathy.

The two bride Siddhi and Buddhi were competing with each other in their beauty and grace. The dundubi blared, Vedas were chanted while Brahma and Vani gave away the brides in kanyAdAn to GaNapathy.

Flowers rained on the brides and groom. Happiness swelled like an ocean. GaNapathy looked like Manmathan himself with his two lovely DEvis beside him.

3#11b. பிற யக்ஞங்கள்

அதிக திரவியம் தேவை ராஜஸ யக்ஞத்துக்கு!
அதில் கலந்து நிற்கும் பொறாமை உணர்வுகள்.

க்ஷத்திரியர், வைசியர் செய்வர் ராஜஸ யக்ஞம்.
ஆத்திர, அகம்பாவம் நிறைந்தது தாமஸ யக்ஞம்.

மானசீக யக்ஞம் என்றும் உண்டு ஒரு யக்ஞம்.
மனதினாலேயே செய்யப்படுவது அந்த யக்ஞம்.

முக்தியை நாடும் மகாத்மாக்கள் செய்வர் இதை.
முனிவர்கள், விரக்தர், ஞானிகள் செய்வர் இதை.

முக்குண விருத்திகளை விலக்கிச் செய்வதால்,
எத்தகைய தோஷமும் ஏற்படாது செய்வதனால்.

மனத் தூய்மை கொண்டவரே செய்ய வல்லவர்;
மனத்தில் நிர்மாணிக்க வேண்டும் யாகசாலை.

பரிசுத்த குண்டத்தில் அக்னியை மூட்டியபின்
பாவிக்க வேண்டும் அந்தணர்கள் வந்துள்ளதாக

பூஜை செய்ய வேண்டும் மானசீகமாக – ஹோம,
பூஜைப் பொருட்களையும் உருவாக்க வேண்டும்.

எஜமானன் மனது, அதி தேவதை பரமாத்மா.
பஞ்ச வாயுக்கள் ஆகும் பஞ்ச அக்னிகளாக.

தியானிக்க வேண்டும் பராசக்தியை – ஆழ்ந்து
தியானித்து அடைய வேண்டும் சமாதி யோகம்.

மானசீக யக்ஞத்தின் பலன் மோக்ஷம்;
மானசீக யக்ஞத்தின் பலன் நிலையானது.

நிலையற்றவை பிற யாகங்களின் பலன்கள்,
நிறைந்துள்ளன அவற்றில் ராஜஸம், தாமஸம்.

3#11b. The other yagnams.

RAjasa yagnam needs more money and more material things for the offerings. It is inseparable from the feelings of jealousy, ego and desire. Kshatriya and Vaisya perform this type of yagnam.

There is one more yagnam called the mAnaseeka yagnam.This in done within the mind and not in the outside world. This is performed by the mumukshus who seek liberation from the bondage of samsAra. Sages, seers and gnAnis perform this mAnaseeka yagnam.

Since it is completely free from the three guNAs this type of yagnam is blemish-less. Only a person who has purified his mind thoroughly will be able to perform this kind of mAnaseeka yagna.

The person must imagine and establish a suitable yAga sAlA and yAga kundam in his mind, using his imagination. He must light the fire in the yaaga kundam and imagine that the pure brahmins are attending his yagnam.

He must create all the homa sAmAgri in his imagination and offer them in the yagnam fire, doing puja and mantra japam as usual.

Ejaman of the yagna is the mind. Athi Devathai is the Supreme Brahman. The pancha prANAs become the pancha agni. He must meditate on Devi ParA Shakthi with unified concentration and attain samadhi sate as a result of his meditation.

The fruit of this kind of mAnaseeka yagnam is moksham or total liberation which it permanent in it effect. The fruits of the other yagnas are not permanent since they are riddled with RAjasam and TAmasam.

மகேந்திரன் பெற்றான் அறிய தத்துவ ஞானத்தை
மகேஸ்வரனிடம், அவர் உன் அருள் பெற்ற பிறகு!

விரும்பினான் மகேந்திரன் சப்த சாத்திரத்தை
குரு முகமாக பிருஹஸ்பதியிடம் கற்பதற்கு!

ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் தவம் செய்தார் பிருஹஸ்பதி
தூய புஷ்கரத்தில் உன் அருளைப் பெறுவதற்காக!

கற்பித்தார் சப்த சாஸ்திரத்தை மகேந்திரனுக்கு
கற்பவர், கற்பிப்பவர் தொழுகின்றனர் உன்னை!

பூசனைக்கு உரியவள் நீ! சொல் வளம் தருபவள் நீ!
புகழப்படுபவள் நீ! வாதத் திறன் தருபவள் நீ!

ஆயிரம் முகம் கொண்டவன் புகழ முடியவில்லை
ஐந்து முகம் கொண்டவன் புகழ முடியவில்லை

நான்கு முகம் கொண்டவன் புகழ முடியவில்லை
ஒரு முகம் கொண்ட என்னால் புகழ இயலுமா?"

சிந்தை மகிழ்ந்தாள் இந்தத் துதியினால் கலைமகள்;
தந்தாள் கவிதை புனையும் வல்லமையைத் திறனை.

பயன்:

கலைமகளின் துதியினை ஓதுபவன் அடைவான்
கவிதை இயற்றும் திறமை, பேச்சில் புலமை !

மூடனும், மூர்க்கனும் ஓராண்டு காலம் ஓதினால்
மதிக்கப் படுவார்கள் புத்திமான்களாக புலவர்களாக!

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

9#5c. Saraswati stuti (3)

When SadA Siva was questioned on some spiritual topic by Mahendra, He meditated on you for a moment and only after that he was able to answer to Mahendra's question.

Once Indra asked Bruhaspati, the Guru of the Devas, about Sabda SAstra (Scriptures on sound). Bruhaspati was unable to teach indra the Sabda SAstra. So he went to Pushkara teertam and worshiped you for one thousand celestial years.

He was then able to impart the knowledge of Sabda SAstra to Mahendra over a period of one thousand celestial years.

The Munis about to teach their disciples or those about to commence their own self studies worship you before they commence.

The Munis, Manus, men, DaityAs, the Immortals, Brahma, VishNuand Mahesa worship you and Sing hymns to you. They could not praise you with their several tongues!

Neither VishNu with his one thousand tongues, nor MahesA with his five tongues, nor Brahma with his four tongues.

When such great persons find it difficult to sing your praise, what to say about me, a mere mortal with just one tongue?

YAjnavalkya, who had been observing fasting, bowed down to the Devi Saraswati with great devotion and began to cry frequently. Then MahAmAyA Saraswati, who is of the nature of Light could not hide Herself away anymore.

She became visible to him and said “O Child! You will become a good Kaveendra (Indra of the poets).” Granting him this boon, Saraswati disappeared from there. YAjnavalkya becomes a good poet, eloquent, and intelligent like Bruhaspati.

He who reads this stotra on Sarasvati by YAjnavalkya for one year - even if he is an utter illiterate - will become intelligent, a good Pundit and a great poet.

#8a. மது, கைடபர்கள்-1

பாற்கடலில் பள்ளி கொண்ட பரமனிடம்
தோன்றினர் செவி வழியே மது கைடபர்.

கனல் விழிகள், கர்ஜனைக் குரலுடன்
தினவெடுத்துத் திரிந்தனர் நாற்புறமும்.

மனிதர்கள், தேவர்கள் மட்டும் இன்றி
முனிவரையும் வதைத்தனர் இவர்கள்.

தோற்றம் தந்த நாரணனையும் கூடத்
தூற்றினர் துச்சமாக எண்ணிய அசுரர்.

மண்ணுலகம் மண்டி இட்டது அஞ்சி.
விண்ணுலகம் சென்றனர் அதை விஞ்ச.

சத்யலோகம் சென்றனர் பிரமனிடம்
சத்ருவிடமிருந்து மறைந்தான் பிரமன்

விஷ்ணுவிடம் தோன்றிய அசுரர்களை,
விஷ்ணு ஒருவரே வெல்ல வல்லவர்.

பாற்கடல் சென்றடைந்தான் பிரமதேவன்;
தோற்றோடிய தேவரும் வந்தனர் அங்கே.

விழித்து எழுந்த நாரணனிடம் வேண்டினர்,
“அழித்து ஒழியுங்கள் மது கைடபர்களை !”

அபயம் தந்த பரந்தாமன் எழுப்பினார்;
அபாயம் தந்திடும் சிங்கச் சங்கொலி!

யுத்தத்தை விரும்பிய மது கைடபர்கள்,
சத்தத்தை நாடிச் சென்றனர் பாற்கடல்.

துவங்கியது கடும்போர் ஒன்று உடனேயே!
தோன்றின கொடும் ஆயுதங்கள் மாயத்தால்!

அண்ட சராசரம் நடுங்கியது போரினால்
அண்டத்தை நிறைத்தது மண்டிய புகை.

வெற்றி தோல்வி இன்றி நீண்டது போர்
வெறிகொண்ட அசுரர் இறைவனிடையே!

இறைவனிடம் தோன்றியதால் பொருதனர்
இறைவனுக்கு நிகராகச் சமவலிமையுடன்!

8A. Madhu and Kaitaba

VishNu was sleeping on AdhisEsha in the ocean of milk. Two asurAs named Madhu and Kaitaba appeared from his ears. They were very arrogant.

They roamed in the three worlds with fiery red eyes and roaring voices. They troubled and tortured men, DEva and rushis. They treated with disrespect and hatred even VishNu who was their creator.

The whole earth surrendered to them. Now they wished to conquer the heavens. They went to SatyalOkam. Brahma made himself invisible and ran away to meet NArAyaNA.

Since these asurAs were born out of NArAyaNA, only he could vanquish them and no one else. The defeated Deva also reached there. Together they prayed to VishNu, “Please put an end to the atrocities of Madhu and Kaitaba”

VishNu blew his conch PAnchajanyam like the roar of a lion. The asurAs who were always seeking wars with worthy opponents, rushed to the ocean of milk, from where the sound of the conch had come.

A fierce battle ensued between the AsurAs and VishNu. Deadly weapons appeared out of MAyA and the war went on for a long time without an end. These asurAs were created out of VishNu and were equally strong and invincible.

3#11c. தேவி யக்ஞம்

சர்ப்ப யாகம் செய்தாய் ஜனமேஜயா
சர்ப்பங்கள் மேல் கொண்ட பகையால்..

சர்ப்பங்களின் அழிவு யாக பலன்.
சர்ப்ப யாகம் ஆனது தாமஸ யாகம்.

காரணம் நாடினால் அது பகைமையே.
காரியம் நாடினால் அவை கொலையே.

தேவியின் யக்ஞ விதிகளைக் கூறுவேன்
தேவை வேதம் கற்றுள்ள வல்லுனர்கள்.

புண்ணியம் சேர்போம் யாகம் செய்து
கண்ணியம் சேரும் பரீக்ஷித் மன்னனை.

பிரபஞ்ச சிந்தனையே இல்லாத முனிவர்
பிரம்ம நிஷ்டையில் ஆழ்ந்திருந்த போது

கழுத்தில் போட்டான் செத்த பாம்பினை.
இழுத்துத் தள்ள முயன்றான் முனிவரை.

கோபம் கொண்ட முனிகுமாரனின் கடும்
சாபத்துக்கு அஞ்சி பதுங்கி வாழ்ந்தான்.

அழுது மணி மந்திரங்களை நாடினான்
புழு போன்ற ஜந்து கடித்து மண்டான்.

நரகத்தில் இருக்கும் மன்னனைக் காத்துக்
கரை ஏற்றுவாய் நரகத்தின் துயரிலிருந்து!”

"சுவர்க்கத்துக்குத் என் தந்தை செல்லும்
மார்க்கம் எதுவோ கூறுங்கள் வியாசரே!”

3#11c. Devi Yagnam

Sage VyAsA told king Janamejayan thus,” You performed the great sarpa yaagam. Your hatred towards the serpents was the cause of the yaAe serpents.

The yAga was a tAmasic yAga since destruction was its fruit. The cause of the yaagaa was the hatred on snakes and the effect of the yAga was the ass-killing of those snakes.

I will tell you the rules for performing the Devi yagnam. We need learned pundits to perform it. We have to earn puNya to release Pareekshit from his sufferings.

A sage was lost in deep meditation shut away from this world. King Pareekshit garlanded the sage with the body of a dead snake. He tried to topple the sage by pulling the body of the snake.

When the angry son of the sage cast a curse, he got frightened and tried to hide in the safety of his fort. He sought the help of gems and mantra to save himself but in vain.

He was bit by a strange worm like germ and lost his life. We have to help him attain swarggam.” VyAsa told Janamejayan.

“Sire! please tell me how I can help my father to attain swarggam king Janamejayan asked sage VyAsa now.

Beautiful poem....and great arrangement of words as well...!!!
Though a small point....I am not a Tamil expert...but still in the last stanza....I have a point of contention:

மனோ வியாதிகள் உற்பத்தி ஆகின்றன

vyadigal uruvagindrana.....urpathi alla...right?

Diseases, mental or otherwise cannot be manufactured (please exclude the bio engineers from this) right?
Do correct me if I am wrong....

But still a lovely poem...

9#6a. சச்சரவும், சண்டையும்.

மூன்று மனைவியர் அப்போது பரமாத்மாவுக்கு!
மூவரிடமும் சம அன்பு கொண்டிருந்தார் அவர்.

கங்கை, லக்ஷ்மி, சரஸ்வதி ஆவர் அம்மூவரும் .
மங்கையரிடையே பொறாமைத்தீ ஓர் இயல்பே!

கங்கை புன்னகை செய்தாள் பரவசத்துடன் ஒருநாள்;
கங்கையிடம் புன்னகைத்தார் பரமாத்மா ஒரு கணம்.

பொறுக்கவில்லை சரஸ்வதிக்கு அன்பின் பரிமாற்றம்!
பொறுத்துக் கொண்டாள் சத்துவ குண உத்தமி லக்ஷ்மி!

குமுறினாள் சரஸ்வதி பொங்கிய பொறாமையால்;
குமுறினாள் கணவனின் பாரபக்ஷத்தை எண்ணி!

"சமமாக அன்பு செய்ய வேண்டும் மனைவியரிடம்!
சத்துவ குணசாலிக்கு அதுவே தரும் மேன்மையை!

அதிக அன்பு கொண்டுள்ளீர் நீர் கங்கா தேவியிடம்!
அதிக அன்பு கொண்டுள்ளீர் நீர் லக்ஷ்மி தேவியிடம்!

வஞ்சிக்கப் படுபவள் நான் ஒருத்தி மட்டுமே!
வஞ்சகர் உம்மைச் சத்துவ சீலர் என்கின்றனர்!

அறிவிலிகளால் தான் அப்படிக் கூற முடியும்;
அறியவில்லை அவர்கள் உமது வஞ்சகத்தை!"

பதில் கூறவில்லை பரமாத்மா சரஸ்வதியிடம்;
அதிக விரைவுடன் எழுந்து சென்றார் வெளியே..

சாடினாள் கங்கையை வார்த்தையால் சரஸ்வதி;
ஓடினாள் கங்கையின் கூந்தலைப் பற்றி இழுக்க!

தடுத்தாள் லக்ஷ்மி அதை இடையில் குறுக்கிட்டு;
சபித்தாள் லக்ஷ்மியைச் செடியாக, நதியாக மாறிவிட!

9#6a. The quarrel and the curse.


Once upon a time Lakshmi, Saraswati and GangA were the three wives of Hari. He loved all of them equally and they remained always very close to him.

One day GangA cast amorous side-long glances frequently towards NArAyaNa with a sweet smile on Her lips. Seeing this he too looked at GangA and smiled back at her.

Lakshmi who saw this exchange of smiles did not take any offense. But Saraswati became very jealous and very angry. Lakshmi tried to console and calm down the angry Saraswati - but in vain!

Saraswati's face became red due to her anger and she began to tremble due to her strong emotions. Her lips quivered and She began to speak to her husband thus:

"A good husband treats his all the wives equally; but a cheat does just the opposite. You are partial to GangA! You love Lakshmi and GangA more than you love me! I am the only one that is deprived of your love. I am the only unfortunate wife!

Of what use is living a life like this? Her life is useless, who is deprived of her husband's love. Those that call you as a satva guNa seela are not learned pundits! They are fools who can't understand your true nature."

NArAyaNA knew that Saraswati was very angry. He did not reply to her and just went away from there.

Now Saraswati became fearless and began to abuse GangA in a harsh language! “O Shameless One! O Passionate One! What pride do you feel for your husband? Do you like to show off that your husband loves you more? I will destroy your pride today. I will see today what your Hari can do for you?”

Saying thus Saraswati rose up to pull GangA by Her hair violently. Lakshmi intervened trying to stop this. Saraswati became very violent and cursed Lakshmi thus:

" May you be turned into a tree and into a river. You saw the undue behavior of GangA, but you did not step forward to speak anything against it - as if you were a jadam like a tree or a river.”

BHAARGAVA PURAANAM - PART 1.

#8b. மது, கைடபர்கள்-2

வெற்றி தோல்வி இல்லாத வெற்றுப் போரால்
வெறுப்படைந்து விட்டார் விஷ்ணு மூர்த்தி.

மாயையால் அசுரர் கண்களைக் கட்டி விட்டு,
மாயவன் சென்றடைந்தார் கயிலை மலை.

வனத்தில் இருந்துகொண்டு யாழிசை மீட்ட
மனம் கனிந்த ஈசனும் தந்தார் தன் தரிசனம்!

“என்னிடம் தோன்றி என்னையே எதிர்க்கும்
புன்மதி அசுரரை நான் வெல்ல வல்லேன்.

பங்கம் நிகழ்ந்ததோ என் ஆற்றலுக்கு?
அங்கு அவரை வெல்லும் ஆற்றல் தாரும்.”

“விநாயகனே வெற்றியின் கடவுள்! கிட்டும்
அனாயாச வெற்றி அவனை நினைந்தால்!

மறந்தீர் அவனை எண்ணிட நாரணரே!
துறந்தீர் ஒரு எளிய வெற்றியைப் போரில்!”

ஈசன் உபதேசித்தார் நாராயணனுக்கு
நேசத்துடன் ஷடாக்ஷர மந்திரத்தை.

நூறு ஆண்டுகள் நாராயணன் தொழுதிட
நேரில் தோன்றினார் வேழமுகக் கடவுள்.

“அற்ப அசுரருடன் செய்யும் போரில்
வெற்றி நிச்சயம் உமதே நாரணரே!”

ஷடாக்ஷரம் ஓதிய நாரணன் மீண்டும்
அடாவடி அசுரரிடம் போருக்குச் செல்ல,

வேற்று உருவில் ஒளிந்திருந்த அசுரரின்
மாற்று உருவம் மறைந்து ஒழிந்தது!

சாரங்கம் பெய்தது அம்பு மழையினை.
சரங்கள் பொடிந்து விழுந்தன கீழே!

சக்கரத்தை எடுத்து நாரணன் செலுத்த
சிக்கலின்றி மாய்ந்தனர் மது, கைடபர்.

அமரர்கள் பொழிந்தனர் மலர் மழை!
அமரர்கள் தொழுதனர் நாரணனை.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
