DEVI BHAAGAVATAM - SKANDA 9
9#24a. The Trick and the Curse
NAradA asked NArAyaNA,"Tulasee is a chaste woman. How did she lose her chastity? Pease tel me all about it"
NArAyaNA replied to NAradA," It was Vishnu who had taken away the mantra kavacham in the disguise of an old brahmin from Sankhachooda in the war field.
He wore the mantra kavacha and transformed himself to look like Sankhachooda. He went back to Tulasee with his army in jubilation and celebration.
Tulasee looked at them from her balcony and became very happy to see her husband. She gave gifts to the physically challenged people and released the prisoners from the prison.
Vishnu entered the chamber of Tulasee as if he were really Sankhachooda. Tulasee was overcome by passion when she saw her husband after a long time. She made him sit on a throne studded with precious gems. She gave him betel leaves folded with fresh camphor inside them.
She told him,"It is hard to believe that you have won over Lord Sanakra. Can anybody defeat Lord Sankara in a war? Tell me all about it as I am eager to know how you had won over him ?"
Vishnu laughed as Sankhachooda would laugh and replied," Both of us fought for a very long time without a sign of victory or defeat. Brahma loves both of us alike. He made us understand that it was not necessary to fight a war.
I returned the Swargga to the DevAs and the war ended. Sankara went back to his abode and the DevAs too went back to their abode happily."
He indulged in amorous sports with Tulasee. She was puzzled since these were very different from what Sankhachooda used to indulge in.
