#7b. NArAyNan’s curse

NArAyaNan got up from the anthill in great anger. His forehead was bleeding profusely - split by the axe. Chozha king got bewildered by this sight. He fell at God’s feet and cried begging him to tell him what had happened there!

“After coming down from Vaikuntham I live in this anthill. The celestial cow gives me milk .The foolish cowherd wanted to attack the cow with his axe. I tried to stop his atrocity and got struck by him instead of the cow.

The king told NArAyaNan, ” The cowherd thought that the cow was cheating him of its milk. He did not know that it was you who enjoyed the milk. You are famous for your satva gunam. Please give up your anger and become your usual self”

“When the cowherd saw that the cow showered its milk here in the anthill, he must have guessed that it was for a special purpose. What he did is wrong and is unpardonable.”

No amount of begging and pleading had any effect on Naaraayan. He spoke in anger to the Chozha king thus, “The sins committed by the citizen get attached to the king who rules them. The sin committed by this foolish cowherd is now your sin. You will roam the jungles and forests as a ghost for this sin.”

The God famous for his satva gunam cursed the good-natured Chozha king in this manner!

6#6b. விருத்திரன் வதம் (2)

“நட்பு வேண்டாம் பகைவனோடு உனக்கு!
நட்பை உதறிவிடு நன்மை கருதி உடனே!

பொறாமை பிடித்தவன்; கர்வம் கொண்டவன்;
பேராசைக் காரன்; ஈவு, இரக்கமில்லாதவன்;

பிறன் மனை விழைபவன்; கயவன்;
பிறர் துயர் கண்டு மனம் மகிழ்பவன்;

துரோகம் செய்தான் விஸ்வரூபனுக்கு;
துரோகம் செய்வான் உனக்கும் கூட! ”

விருத்திரன் மதிக்கவில்லை அறிவுரையை;
விரும்பிப் பழகினான் மீண்டும் நட்போடு!

கடற்கரையில் சந்தித்தனர் இருவரும் மாலையில்;
கயவன் இந்திரன் எண்ணினான் பச்சை துரோகம்.

‘இரவும், பகலும் அற்ற சந்தி வேளை இது!
வர வேண்டும் விஷ்ணு மூர்த்தி உதவி செய்திட!’

வஜ்ஜிராயுதத்தில் புகுந்தார் விஷ்ணு – ஆனால்
வஜ்ஜிராயுதத்தால் அழிவில்லை விருத்திரனுக்கு!

உலர்ந்ததாகவும், ஈரமாகவும் இல்லாத வஸ்து?
உயர்ந்தது மலையளவு கடலில் பொங்கிய நுரை!

தேவை உலர்ந்தோ, ஈரமாகவோ இல்லாத நுரை!
தேவி அருளால் கிடைத்து விட்டது மலையளவு!

அள்ளிப் பூசினான் வஜ்ஜிராயுதத்தில் நுரையை;
தள்ளி இருந்த விருத்திராசுரன் மீது வீசினான்.

நுரை பட்டவுடனே இறந்தான் விருத்திரன்!
வரம் காக்கவில்லை அவன் உயிரை அன்று.

ஆராதித்தனர் தேவர்கள் பராசக்தி தேவியை;
பிரதிஷ்டை செய்தனர் மரகதச் சிலை ஒன்றை!

‘விருத்திர ஹந்திரி’ இது தேவியின் பெயர்,
‘விருத்திர ஹதன்’ இது இந்திரனின் பெயர்.

6#6b. The end of ViruthrAsuran (2)

Thvashta PrajApati spoke to ViruthrAsuran. “Please do not befriend your sworn enemy. Nothing good will come out of it! Indra is a jealous monster. He is one bloated with ego and pride.

He is greedy and ruthless. He covets the wives of other men. He rejoices in the sorrows of others. He killed Viswaroopan by treachery! He may do the same thing to you also. So please have nothing to do with Indra.”

But ViruthrAsuran would not listen to the practical wisdom of his father and continued to be very close to Indra just as before.

One day the two friends met in a beach in the evening time. Indra felt that the opportune moment for which he had been waiting had come! He thought to himself, ‘It is neither a day nor a night! I
wish VishNu Moorthy will come to my help now.” VishNu entered into the vajrAyudam and sat on its tip.

But VajrAyudam could not kill ViruthrAsuran as per Brahma’s boon granted to him. Only an object which was neither wet nor dry could kill ViruthrAsuran. What was such an oject and where will one find it?

Just then the foam in the sea waves rose high like a mountain. Foam was neither wet nor dry. Indra dipped the tip of his vajrAyudam in the foam and threw it at ViruthrAsuran. When the foam touched his body, ViruthrAsuran fell dead.

The Devas rejoiced in the sky. They established an emerald statue for Devi and worshipped her. Devi got a new title as ‘Viruthra Nihantri’ and Indra came to be known as ‘Virutra hathan’.

4c. ரதியின் கண்ணீர்.

நந்தியை வணங்கிக் கயிலையில் நுழைந்தவன்
நடுங்கினான் சரபத்தைக் கண்ட சிங்கம் போல்;

நான்முகனுக்குத் தந்த வாக்கை நிறைவேற்றிட
நாண் ஏற்றித் தொடுத்தான் மலர்க் கணைகள்.

மலர்க்கணை தொட்டதும் திறந்தன கண்கள்;
மலையெங்கும் புகைசூழ மதன் எரிந்துபோனான்.

முன் போலவே ஈசன் யோகத்தில் அமர்ந்திடவே,
தன் மார்பில் அடித்துக் கொண்டு ரதி அழுதாள்.

“திருமகளின் திருமகனே! திருமால் செல்வனே!
கரும்பு வில் அழகனே! கடமை தவறாதவனே!

நான்முகன் உன்னைக் கொல்லாமல் கொன்றான்!
உன்னை விட்டு தனியே இனிமேல் நான் இரேன்!

தேவர்கள் பேச்சைக் கேட்டுக் கயிலை சென்றாய்.
பேதை என்னை தனியாள் ஆக்கினாய் இன்று.

தேவர்கள் மனம் கல்லாகிப் போனதோ?
தேவைக்குப் பயன்படுத்தி உதறிவிட்டனரே!

மீண்டும் உனக்கு உயிர்ப்பிச்சை தரும்படி,
ஆண்டவனிடம் வேண்டுபவர் யாரோ?”

1 # (4c). RATI DEVI’S SORROW.

Manmathan entered into Siva’s presence. When he saw Siva in yoga nishta, Manmathan shuddered like a lion cub at the sight of the gigantic mythological bird Sarabam.

He remembered his mission and the promise he had made to Brahma. The Devas were watching the happenings with deep interest. Manmathan shot the flower arrows on Siva. The moment the flowers touched His body, Siva opened His eyes slightly. Manmathan got burned down to ashes by a spark from Siva’s eyes. Siva went back to his yoga nishta.

Rathi Devi’s sorrow knew no bounds! She cried in a heartrending manner,”Dear husband! The pet son of Lakshmi Devi, The dear son of MahA Vishnu! The wielder of sugarcane bow and the most beautiful and dutiful of all the Devas!

Brahma conspired your death. The Devas have used you and sacrificed you. I will not live without you! Have the hearts of the Devas turned into stones? Is there no one to beg for your resurrection?”

7c. சாப விமோசனம்

“பிரஜைகளின் தவறுகள் சேரும் அரசனையே!
குறைப் படவில்லை கிடைத்த சாபத்துக்கு நான்.

கூறுவீர் சாப விமோசனம் என்ன என்பதை;
கூறுவீர் சாபவிமோசனம் பெறும் வழியை!”

“திரிவாய் பிசாசாக மாறி மிகுந்த ஆயுளில்;
பெறுவாய் பெருமை நீ அடுத்த பிறவியில்.

பிறப்பாய் சுதர்மன் மகன் ஆகாச ராஜனாக;
பிறப்பாள் என் மனைவி உந்தன் மகளாக.

நற்கதி அடைவீர் நீயும், உன் வம்சத்தினரும்;
கற்பகாலம் விளங்கும் புகழுடன் உன் பெயர்.”

“சாபமா இது? அரிய வரம் அல்லவோ இது?
கோபத்தின் பரிசாகக் கிடைத்தவை இவை!

வைகுந்தவாசனை அடைவேன் மருமகனாக!
வைபவ லக்ஷ்மியை அடைவேன் என் மகளாக!

மன்னித்து விடுங்கள் இடையனின் குற்றதை;
புன்செயல் புரிந்தான் மதியற்ற மடையன்.”

மயங்கிய இடையன் விழித்துக் கொண்டான்
தயங்கித் தயங்கி எழுவதற்கு முயன்றான்.

கண்கள் தெரியவில்லை; பார்வை போய்விட்டது!
கண்ணீர் வழிய அழுதான் “ஆண்டவனே!” என்று.

“தண்டனை அனுபவிப்பான் சிறிது காலம்
கண் மூடித்தனமான செயல் செய்ததற்கு.

நித்திய வாசனாக அமர்வேன் நான் இங்கு;
எத்தினம் இவன் என்னிடம் வருவானோ,

கிடைக்கும் கண் பார்வை மீண்டும் அன்று.
கிடைக்கும் வைகுந்தம் பாவத்தை வென்று!

விண்ணுலகு விட்டு பூமிக்கு வந்தபின்
கண்டீர்கள் என்னை இந்தக் கோலத்தில்.

இதே கோலத்தில் தங்குவேன் இங்கே!”
அதே நொடியில் அந்தர் தியானமானார்.

பைசாச உருவம் தாங்கினான் சோழ ராஜன்
வைகுந்தவாசன் மேல் செய்தான் தியானம்.

#7c. Sapa vimochanam

“The sins of the citizens get attached to their king. I am not sorry for the curse laid by you oh god! Please tell me the sApa vimochanam and how I have to get it”

“You will spend the rest of your lifespan roaming around as a ghost. In the next birth you will be born as AakAsa Raajan – the son of King Sudharman. My wife will be born as your loving daughter. You and you race will be blessed and your name will be remembered for eons with deep respect.” Vishnu replied to the Chozha king.

The Chozha King was head over heels in happiness to hear this and exclaimed, “Is this a curse? No it is a boon! What is the outcome of your anger? I will get you as my son in law and your wife will be born as my daughter. Please pardon the mistake of the cowherd. He is an illiterate fool.”

The cowherd regained consciousness and tried to get up slowly. But he had lost his power of vision and started crying piteously.

NArAyaNan said, “The cowherd has to face the punishment for his wrong deed. He will be blind for some time. I will start to live here as Nithya vAsan very soon. On the day he comes back to me he will regain his power of vision. His sins will be forgiven and he will gain Vaikuntham.

You have seen me in this state after I left Vaikuntham. So I shall stay here in the same form and figure.” saying these words, NArAyanan disappeared from there.

The Chozha king became a ghost and roamed around but he always remembered and chanted the name of NArAyNan.

6#7a. நகுஷன் (1)

வைகுந்தம் சென்று விட்டான் விஷ்ணு பிரான்
வஞ்சித்து விருத்திரனை இந்திரன் கொன்றபின்.

வருந்தினான் செய்த பாவத்தை எண்ணி, எண்ணி!
வருந்தினர் முனிவர்கள் நடுநிலைமை தவறியதால்.

வருந்தினான் துவஷ்டா விருத்திரனை எண்ணி;
பொருமினான் இந்திரனின் துரோகத்தை எண்ணி.

துவஷ்டா மனு துடித்தான் புத்திர சோகத்தால்;
துவஷ்டா மனு சபித்தான் இந்திரனை பலவாறு!

செய்த வினைப் பயனைத் துய்தே ஆக வேண்டும்
செய்தவன் தேவனோ மனிதனோ அன்றி அசுரனோ!

பிரகாசம் குன்றி விட்டான் இந்திரன் – இப்போது
பிறதேவர்கள் புறக்கணித்தனர் மன்னன் இந்திரனை.

“துரோகம் செய்தான் நல்ல நண்பனுக்கு!” என்று
தூற்றினர்; பிரம்ம ஹத்தியை இகழ்ந்து பேசினர்.

இழந்தான் புகழை; இழந்தான் உறவுகளை;
இழந்தான் ஒளியை; இழந்தான் அமைதியை!

அமைதி இருக்காது பாவம் செய்தவர்களிடம்;
அவமதிப்பர் உற்றார், உறவினர், மற்றோர்.

இந்திராணி கேட்டாள் “என்ன கவலை உமக்கு?”
இந்திரன் கூறினான் தான் இழந்தவற்றை எல்லாம்.

புனித நீர் நிலையாகிய மானசரோவர் சென்றான்;
புகுந்தான் தாமரைத் தண்டினுக்குள் சூக்ஷ்மமாக.

தனியன் ஆகிவிட்டான்; சக்தியை இழத்து விட்டான்;
இனி எவரையும் காண விரும்பவில்லை தேவேந்திரன்!

உலகம் உய்ய வேண்டும்! விசாலம். K. ராமன்

6#7a. Nahushan (1)

VishNu went back to Vaikuntham after Indra killed ViruthrAsuran by treachery. Indra was ashamed of his own actions. The rushis felt guilty for playing unfair with the all-trusting ViruthrAsuran – who never doubted their false promises. Thvashta could not forgive Indra nor forget ViruthrAsuran. He cursed Indra with seething anger.

A person must suffer the consequences of his actions – whether he is a Deva or an Asura or a Manushya. Indra lost his glories and became pathetic looking and lack lustre.

The other Devas avoided him now. They spoke ill of him as a betrayer of a good friend and a treacherous king. His brahmahatthi took away his powers, beauty and peace of mind. IndrANi was troubled to see her husband suffer thus.

Indra shared his sorrows with her. He decided to remain invisible to everyone. He went to Manasarovar and hid himself in the stem of a lotus plant there. He did not want to face anyone or communicate with anyone any more.




 
KANDA PURAANAM - URPATTHIK KAANDAM

5. ஈசன் மோனம் நீங்குதல்.

“நினைத்தது ஒன்று, நடந்தது ஒன்று” என்று ஆயிற்று!
நினைத்தபடி ஈசன் விடவில்லை யோகநிலையை.

காமன் முயற்சியும் வெற்றி பெறவில்லை அங்கே!
காமன், கண்பார்வையில் சாம்பல் ஆகிவிட்டான்.

இறைவனின் உள்ளத்தை உருக்க வல்லது
இறைஞ்சும் அடியவரின் இனிய மொழியே.

“துயர் துடைத்திடுவீர் ஐயனே – இன்றேல் எம்
உயிர் பறித்திடுவீர்! எமக்கு சரணாகதி நீரே!”

அனைவரையும் வரப் பணித்தான் ஈசன்;
அனைவர் குறைகளையும் கேட்டறிந்தான்;

“நீங்குங்கள் உங்கள் மனவருத்தம் உடனே ;
நீங்கள் விழைவது நடக்கும் உறுதியாக!”

பூசித்து ஈசனை வணங்கினாள் ரதிதேவியும்,
“நேசிக்கும் கணவன் உயிர்த்தெழ வேண்டும்!”

“உமையை யாம் வதுவை புரிகையில்
இமயத்தில் உயிர்த்தெழுவான் மன்மதன்”

இமைக்காமல் சென்று ரதி தங்கினாள்
உமை மணக் கோலம் காண இமயத்தில்.

நால்வருக்கும் மீண்டும் செப்பினான் ஈசன்
“நாவினால் நவிலர்ப்பாலதன்று ஞானம்!

தியானத்தில் அமர்ந்து மூழ்கித் தேடி,
மோனத்தில் நம்மை அறிவதே ஞானம்!

யோகத்தால் பண்படுவீர்கள் நீங்கள் – பின்
லோகத்தினர் விழையும் பரகதி பெறுவீர்!”

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

1# 5. COMING OUT OF YOGA STHITHI.

Devas planned to do something but something else had happened! Siva did not come out of Siva Yoga nishta. But Manmathan got burned to ashes. His efforts were in vain. The only way to melt God’s heart is by sincere prayers.

The Devas prayed in Unison,”Oh Lord! Put an end to our sufferings or put an end to our lives!” Siva called in everyone and learned about their troubles. He promised them to do the needful and told them to go back to their abodes in peace.

Rati Devi prayed that her most beautiful and dutiful husband be brought back to life. Siva promised her,”Your husband will come back alive on the day I wed Uma in HimAlayas.”

Immediately Rati Devi went to HimAlayas and waited for the God Siva’s wedding to take place with Parvati Devi.

Siva told Sanakan and his three brothers that JnAnam can’t be imparted by mere words. One has to sit in DhyAnam, go deep within himself and realize his true self – to acquire JnAnam.
 
SRI VENKATESA PURAANAM

8a. வகுள மாலிகை

விடை பெற்றுச் சென்று விட்டாள் லக்ஷ்மி!
இடையன் பிளந்தான் நெற்றியைத் தாக்கி!

பிருஹஸ்பதி வந்தார் நாரணனைக் காண;
வருந்தினார் நாரணன் படும் துயர் கண்டு.

“கசிகின்றதே நிற்காமல் இன்னமும் உதிரம்!
கசியும் காண்போர்கள் கண்களிலும் உதிரம்!

சேஷாச்சலத்தில் இல்லாத மூலிகைகளா?
ஈசா! தாங்கள் அறியாத வைத்தியமா?” என

மூலிகைத் தேடிச் சென்ற நாரணனை-வகுள
மாலிகை என்னும் மாதுசிரோன்மணி கண்டார்.

ஆதிவராஹரிடம் அதீத பக்தி கொண்டிருந்த
அகவை மிகுந்த ஒரு கண்ணியப் பெண்மணி.

பிளந்த நெற்றியிலிருந்து வழிந்த ரத்தம்
பிளந்தது அவள் நெஞ்சத்தைத் துயரால்.

கொய்து கொண்டிருந்த மலர்களை விடுத்துத்
தொய்ந்து நடந்திருந்த நாரணனிடம் வந்தாள்.

“யாரப்பா நீ? அலைகிறாய் ரத்தக் காயத்துடன் !
யாரும் இல்லையா உன்னைக் கவனிப்பதற்கு?”

கிழித்துத் துடைத்தாள் சேலைத் தலைப்பால்;
பிழிந்து கட்டினாள் மூலிகையின் சாற்றால்.

கள்வர்கள் வழிமறித்துத் தாக்கினார்களா கூறு?
காயம் வந்த மாயம் என்ன சொல்லு!” என்றாள்.

“அம்மா! யாரும் இல்லாத அநாதை நான்
அழைப்பர் என்னை ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் என்று.

பசுவைத் தாக்க முயன்றான் ஒரு பாதகன்;
பசுவைக் காத்தேன்; விழுந்தது ஒரு வெட்டு!”

இதயத்தைத் தொட்டது “அம்மா!” என்னும் சொல்!
இவளும் யாருமில்லாத ஓர் அநாதை அல்லவா?

ஆனந்தக் கண்ணீருடன் நாரணனை அவள் நோக்க,
அகக்கண்கள் திறந்து கொண்டன அதே நொடியில்!

‘தன் எதிரே நிற்பது ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் அல்லவே!
தன் எதிரே நிற்பது ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணன் அல்லவா?’

கண் இமைக்கும் நேரத்தில் கண்ட ஒரு காட்சி
கண் முன் கொண்டு வந்தது பூர்வ ஜென்மத்தை!

#8a. VaguLa MAlikA

Lakshmi left him and went away to earth! On the earth the foolish cowherd broke his crown. NArAyNan was miserable. Bruhaspati who visited him felt equally miserable to see his sufferings.

“The mountain SeshAchalam is full of medicinal herbs and surely you know how to use them! Why do you suffer thus oh Lord? The blood is still oozing and my heart bleeds to see you suffer thus” Bruhaspati told NArAyNan.

NArAyNan decided to attend to the cut in his forehead and went looking for the medicinal herbs. VaguLa MAlikA saw this young and handsome man with bleeding wound roaming the forest. She was an old woman and a sincere devotee of the Aadhi VarAha moorthy.

She kept aside her basket of flowers and approached the young man. She asked him, “Why do you roam around with a bleeding wound in this manner? Is there no one to take care of you?”

She tore the edge of her sari and cleaned the wound. She squeezed out the juice of the herbs and put a bandage on the wound. “How did you get this wound? Did the robbers waylay you?” she asked him.

“I have no one to call my own, oh mother. My name is SrinivAsan. A foolish cowherd wanted to attack a cow with his axe. I intervened and took the blow”

The word “mother!” was like nectar to the ears of this old woman who had no one to call as her own. Tears of joy sprang in her eyes. She looked at SrinivAsan and immediately her JnAna sakshu opened.

Was it SrinivAsan standing in front of her now? No! It was Sri Krishna himself standing there now! This scene which lasted for a split second brought to her the memory of her previous birth.

6#7b. நகுஷன் (2)

பொய்த்தது மழை; வறண்டன நீர் நிலைகள்;
காய்ந்தன பயிர்கள், நிலவியது கடும் பஞ்சம்.

பாழடையும் தலைவன் இல்லாத ஒரு வீடு;
பாழடையும் தலைவன் இல்லாத ஒரு நாடு!

தேவேந்திரப் பதவி இருக்கலாகாது காலியாக;
தேவை அதை அலங்கரித்திட நல்ல மன்னன்.

தேர்வு செய்தனர் தர்ம சீலன் நகுஷனை;
தேவேந்திரன் ஆக்கிவிட்டனர் நகுஷனை;

நல்லாட்சி செய்தான் நகுஷன் – நாட்கள்
செல்லச் செல்லப் பெருகியது அகந்தை!

விரும்பினான் இந்திராணியைக் காண்பதற்கு;
விரும்பினான் இந்திராணியை அடைவதற்கு!

“இந்திரப் பதவியில் நான் அமர்ந்த போதே
இந்திரனின் சொத்துக்கள் என் சொத்துக்கள்.

வரவில்லை சசி தேவி இன்னமும் என்னிடம்;
வரச் செய்யுங்கள் விரைவில் என்னிடம்!’ எனத்

தலை குனித்து சென்றனர் சசிதேவியிடம்,
தலைக்குனிவு வந்து விட்டதை எடுத்துரைக்க.

திடுக்கிட்டாள் துயருற்றாள் இது கேட்ட சசி,
சடுதியில் சரண் அடைந்தாள் குலகுருவிடம்.

“காக்க வேண்டும் என் கற்பைக் குலகுருவே!
ஏக்கம் கொண்டுள்ளேன் கணவன் பிரிவினால்.”

“அஞ்சற்க தேவியே! நகுஷனை எண்ணி நீ!
தஞ்சம் புகுந்த உன்னைக் கை விடேன் நான்.

வராது ஆபத்து உந்தன் கற்பு நெறிக்கு;
வரும் ஆபத்து விரைவில் நகுஷனுக்கு!”

உலகம் உய்ய வேண்டும்! விசாலம். K. ராமன்

6#7b. Nahushan (2)

The rains failed; all the water bodies dried up; the crops withered and there was a famine. A house will be ruined without the householder to care for it and a country will be ruined without a ruler to care for it.

“The throne of Indra should not remain vacant for long. We have to crown a good king from earth as the new Indra. The Devas decided thus an chose Nahushan to become the new Indra.

He was duly made the king of heaven on an auspicious day. At first Nahushan ruled well and justly. But as the days rolled by he became proud and arrogant.At first he wanted to see Sasi Devi. Then he wanted to possess Sasi Devi.

He told the Devas, “The moment you crowned me as the new Indra, everything that belonged to Indra now belongs to me. Why is that I have not yet met Sasi Devi? Please arrange to send her to me soon!”

The Devas were crestfallen but there was nothing they could do now about this. They went to Sasi Devi and conveyed this message. Sasi Devi was shocked to hear this demand and ran for protection to Bruhaspati – the Deva guru.

She cried and said, ” I am sad ever since I got separated from Indra. Now Nahushan wants to have me as his companion. Please protect me and my virtue. I am helpless now!”

Bruhaspati consoled her and said, “Do not worry Oh Queen. I will not let any harm befall you. You will be safe but Nahushan’s end is neaing very fast.”


 
KANDA PURAANAM - URPATTHIK KAANDAM

6a. சிவனும், உமையும்.

உமையின் தவக் கோலத்தைக் காண
இமயம் சென்றார் சிவன், தவசீலராக!

அழைத்துச் சென்றனர் உமையிடம் – பின்
ஆசனம் அளித்து உபசரித்தனர் தோழியர்.

“சிறு பெண்ணே! உடல் வருந்தி இளைக்கப்
பெரும் தவம் செய்யக் காரணம் என்ன?”

“முக்கட் பிரானை மணம் புரிய விரும்பி
இக்கன்னி செய்கின்றாள் அரும் தவம்!”

“நான்முகனும், நெடுமாலும் காண்பதற்கரிய
நந்தி வாஹனன் இத்தவத்துக்கு எளியவரோ?

மணம் புரிவாரா உன் தவத்துக்கு இரங்கி?
குணம் அறிவீரா அந்த முக்கண்ணனின்?”

“முதலும், முடிவும் இல்லாத அவன் மறுத்தாலும்,
நுதற்கண் பெருமான் மீது தவம் செய்வேன் நான்!”

“சிவனைப் பற்றி நன்கு அறிவேன் நான்.
அவனைப் பற்றிக் கூறுகின்றேன் கேள்!

ஆடையோ தோல்! ஊர்தியோ ஓர் எருது!
ஓடே உண்ணும் கலம்! உணவோ நஞ்சு!

அணிகலன்கள் எலும்பும், பன்றிக்கோடும்,
பணிகளும், பல கபால மாலைகளும்,

இருப்பிடமோ சுடுகாடு! படைகளோ பூதங்கள்!
விரும்பும் ஆயுதங்கள் சூலம், மழு, தீ!

தந்தையும் இல்லை, ஒரு தாயும் இல்லை!
சொந்த பந்தம் என்று எவரும் இல்லை.

மலை அரசனின் அருந்தவப் புதல்வி நீ!
விலை கொடுத்து வம்பை வாங்குவது ஏன்?”

“பொய்க்கோலம் பூண்டு வந்த பார்ப்பனரே!
மெய்யன்பர் பேசும் வார்த்தைகளா இவை?

அவுணர்களிலும் மிகுந்த கொடியவர் நீர்!
சிவனின் பெருமைகளைக் குறை கூறினீர்!

ஈசன் மகிமையை உணர்ந்தவர் எவர்?
பூசனை செய்யாதவர் போகலாம் வெளியே!”

1#6a. SIVA AND UMA.

Siva wanted to witness Uma’s tapas. He transformed himself into an old brahmin sanyasi and reached Himalayas.

Uma’s friends guided him to her and offered him a seat. The old man asked Uma, “Why do you do severe tapas and suffer thus?”. Her friends replied that Uma wanted to marry Siva and hence this tapas.

“Siva can’t be seen even by Brahma and Vishnu as and when they please. Do you think your tapas will make Siva’s heart melt and make him marry you?

“Whether or not Siva marries me I will continue my tapas.” Uma replied.

“I personally know Siva very well. I will tell you all about Him. Listen to me carefully now! He wears
the skins of animals. He rides on a bull. He begs for food and eats out of a skull.

His favorite food is poison! His ornaments are bones and tusks of boars. His jewels are poisonous snakes and a garland made of skulls . He dances on the cremation ground.

His army consists of scary monsters. His favorite weapons are trisoola, mazhu and fire. He has neither a father nor a mother nor any kin nor kith.

You are the pretty daughter of the King of mountains. Why do you wish that a person like Siva should become your husband?”

Uma got wild with anger and burst out,”I am sure you are not a real sanyasi nor a real brahmin. No devotee of God can utter such crude and cruel words.

Not even the asuras can speak ill of Lord Siva in this manner. If you dislike Lord Siva, you must leave this place immediately. Please go away now!”

9a. ஆகாச ராஜன்

திரிந்தான் பைசாச உருவில் சோழராஜன்;
பிறந்தான் பூவுலக வாழ்வை நீத்த பிறகு,

நாராயணபுரத்தை ஆண்டு கொண்டிருந்த
நல்ல மன்னன் சுதர்மனின் முதல் மகனாக.

ஆகாச ராஜன் என்ற பெயரை வைத்தனர்.
அன்புடன் அவனைப் பேணி வளர்த்தனர்.

பிறகு பிறந்தது இன்னொரு ஆண் மகவு;
பெயர் விளங்கியது தொண்டைமான் என.

ஒற்றுமையாக வளர்ந்தனர் இருவரும்;
போற்றினர் அனைவரும் இருவரையும்.

சுதர்மன் விரும்பினான் வனவாசம் செல்ல;
சுபமாக மணிமுடி தரித்தான் ஆகாசராஜன்.

இளவரசுப் பட்டம் கிட்டியது இளையவனுக்கு;
இருவரும் ஏற்றனர் தந்தையின் விருப்பத்தை.

உயர்குலப் பெண்களை மணந்து கொண்டனர்;
பெயர் விளங்கும்படி நிர்வகித்தனர் நாட்டினை.

உருண்டோடின வருடங்கள் ஒவ்வொன்றாக,
பெருகின வளமும், நலமும் அந்த நாட்டில்.

ஆனந்தம் கொண்டிருந்தனர் அனைவருமே
ஆகாச ராஜன் என்னும் மன்னனைத் தவிர!

குழந்தை ஒன்று இல்லை கொஞ்சுவதற்கு!
குழந்தை ஒன்றில்லை முத்தாடுவதற்கு!

“இப்பிறவியில் செய்யவில்லை ஒரு பாதகம்;
முற்பிறவியில் செய்ததை யாம் அறிகிலோம்.

குலகுரு சுகர் அறிவார் மூன்று காலத்தையும்.
குலகுரு கூறுவார் நல்வழி ஒன்றை நமக்கு!”

அரசி ஆலோனை கூறினாள் அரசனுக்கு;
அரசன் அழைத்து வரச் சொன்னான் சுகரை.

பல்லக்குச் சென்றது சுகரை அழைத்துவர,
சொல்லுக்கு வல்லவர் சுகர் அங்கு வந்தார்.

#9a. AakAsa RAjan

The Chozha king spent the rest of his life roaming around as a ghost. In his next birth he was born as the son of king Sudharman ruling NArAyaNa Puram. He was fondly named as AakAsa RAjan. He got a younger brother later on who was named as ThoNdaimAn.

The two sons grew up well and were very much attached to each other. After reaching a ripe old age, King Sudharman wanted to go for vana vAsam. He crowned his elder son AakAsa RAjan as the new king . ThoNdaimaan became the prince. They both married suitable princesses and ruled the country well.

Years rolled by and their country was very fertile and rich. Everyone was happy except the king and the queen. They were sad since they did not have any children.

The Queen told the king, “We have not committed any sin in this birth. But we do not know what we had done in our previous births. Our kula guru sage Sukar knows all the three times namely The past, The present and The future. He will surely guide us appropriately.”

The king sent his men with a palanquin to bring his kula guru Sage Sukar to his palace with due honor.

 
DEVI BHAAGAVATAM - SKANDA 6

6#8a. நகுஷனின் மோஹம்

செய்தி அறிந்தான் நகுஷன் இது குறித்து;
செய்கின்றான் தடை தேவகுரு பிருகஸ்பதி!

ஆத்திரம் கொண்டான் நகுஷன் அளவின்றி;
ஆத்திரம் தருபவனைக் கொன்று விட்டால்?

சமாதானம் செய்தனர் தேவர்கள் நகுஷனை;
“மகாபாவம் பிறன் மனைவியை விழைவது.

கணவன் உயிரோடு இருக்கையில் காரிகை
கற்புடன் இருக்க விரும்புவது இயற்கை.

மூன்று உலகங்களை ஆளும் மன்னன் நீ
தோன்றுவதை எல்லாம் செய்யலாகாது!

தேவ கன்னிகைகள் உள்ளனர் ஏராளம்;
தேவி இந்திராணி போன்றவர் அழகில்!

தேடிச் செல்ல வேண்டாம் கற்புக்கரசியை;
கூடி மகிழுங்கள் விரும்பும் கன்னியுடன்!”

சிரித்து விட்டான் நகுஷன் இதைக் கேட்டு;
“சரியான அறிவுரை அல்லவே கூறுவது!

கூடி மகிழ்ந்தான் அகலிகையுடன் இந்திரன்;
கூறவில்லை அது தவறு என ஒருவரும் கூட;

போதனை செய்வீர்கள் தாராளமாகப் பிறருக்கு;
போதனையைப் பின் பற்ற மாட்டீர்கள் நீங்கள்.

இந்திரப் பதவியில் இருப்பவன் நானே – என்னை
இந்திராணி கூடுவதில் தவறு எதுவும் இல்லை!

இணங்கச் செய்யுங்கள் என் விருப்பத்துக்கு;
பிணங்கினால் கொணருங்கள் பலவந்தமாக!”

உலகம் உய்ய வேண்டும்! விசாலம். K. ராமன்

6#7b. Nahushan’s anger

Nahushan came to know about this. He became very angry with Deva Guru Bruhaspati for meddling with his private affairs. He flew into a bad temper and wanted to kill Bruhaspati for that.

The Devas consoled and pacified Nahushn by saying,”It is a sin to covet the wife of another person. Any woman will wish to remain chaste and pure when her dear husband is still alive. You are the ruler of the three worlds. But still You can’t be doing whatever you feel like doing.

There are many Deva kanyAs as beautiful as IndrANi Devi. Choose the one you like most and enjoy with her. Please do not trouble our queen IndrANi any more”

Nahushan broke into peals of laughter on hearing this. “This is not the advice you would have given to Indra. He enjoyed with Ahalya Devi and none of you dared to point out to him tha it was wrong. You will advise the others but you will not follow your own advices.

I am the Indra now. She is the wife of Indra. There is nothing wrong in her choosing me as her husband. Bring her here. If she still refuses, bring her here by sheer force”.

Nahushan was very specific in his instructions about IndrANi Devi.



 
Kandapuraanam (Urppathik Kaandam)

6b. ஈசனின் தரிசனம்.

“உன்னையே மணம் புரிய விரும்பி வந்தேன்,
என்னையே நீ வெளியேறச் சொல்லலாமா?

இது தகுமா? இது முறையா? இது தருமமா?”
பதை பதைத்த உமை இடம் பெயர்ந்தாள்!

விண்ணில் அவள் கண்ட காட்சி தான் என்ன?
விடையேறும் பிரான் அடியார்கள் புடைசூழ!

“ஐயனே உம்மைக் கண்டு கொள்ளாமல் பேதை
ஐயமுற்று வன்மொழிகள் பகர்ந்து விட்டேன்!”

“இகழ்ந்து நீ உரைத்தவற்றை எல்லாம் நான்
புகழ்ந்து நீ உரைத்ததாக எண்ணுகின்றேன்.

உடலை வருத்தும் தவத்தை விட்டு விடு.
உடன் வந்து மணம் புரிவேன் நாளையே!”

மகிழ்ந்த தோழிகள் ஓடோடிச் சென்றனர்,
நிகழ்ந்தவற்றைத் தாய் தந்தைக்குக் கூற;

அன்னையும் தந்தையும் விரைந்து வந்து
அன்புடன் உமையைக் கூட்டிச் சென்றனர்.

1 # (6b). THE DHARSHAN.

“I have come here in order to marry you and you tell me to get out! Is it fair? Is it just? Is it Dharma?”

Uma got badly agitated by these words and tried to leave the place in a hurry. But just then what did she see in the sky high above? It was the grand sight of Lord Siva seated on his Nandhi and surrounded by his devotees.

“Oh Lord! I failed to recognize you and spoke to you harsh words. Please forgive me”. Devi Uma begged for Lord Siva’s forgiveness.

“I consider your harsh words as sweet words of praise. Do not punish yourself with this penance. I shall marry you tomorrow”

Uma’s friends and attendants ran to the HimavAn and Mona Devi and told them of the happenings. They came to Uma in great joy and took her home with them.

9b. மரப் பேழை

பல்லக்கில் வந்த குலகுரு சுகரை ஆகாசராஜன்
உள்ளன்போடு வரவேற்றான் அரசியுடன் சென்று.

"அழைத்த காரணம் என்ன அரசே?” என வினவ,
“விழைகின்றோம் மழலைச் செல்வதை யாம்!

பலன் தரவில்லை புரிந்த தான தருமங்கள்;
பலன் தரும் வழியைக் கூறவேண்டும் தங்கள்!”

“புத்திர காமேஷ்டி யாகம் செய்தால் – உனக்கு
உத்திரவாதமாகப் பிறக்கும் குழந்தை!” என

“பொய்க்காது பெரியோரின் ஆசி மொழிகள்;
செய்வோம் யாகத்தைத் தங்கள் ஆசியுடன்”

குறித்தனர் நல்ல நாள் ஒன்றை யாகத்துக்கு;
குவித்தனர் யாகப் பொருட்களைக் கொணர்ந்து.

குழுமினர் வேத விற்பன்னர்கள் யாகம் புரிந்திட
அழைப்புகள் சென்றன அருமை நண்பர்களுக்கு!

உழுதான் ஆகாச ராஜன் அந்த யாக பூமியை,
தொழுத பின்பு இறையையும், குருவையும்.

வேத கோஷம் செய்தனர் வேத விற்பன்னர்கள்.
கீத நாதம் ஒலித்தனர் இசை விற்பன்னர்கள்.

நிலத்தை உழுத ஆகாச ராஜனின் கலப்பை
நின்று விட்டது ஓரிடத்துக்கு வந்தவுடன்.

அழுத்தி உழுதவுடன் எழுந்தது ஒரு சப்தம்;
ஆழத்தில் கலப்பையைத் தடுத்தது எதுவோ!

தோண்டினர் காவலர் நிலத்தை விரைந்து;
கண்டனர் அழகிய ஒரு மரப் பேழையை!

பேழை வந்தது அரசனிடம் பத்திரமாக!
பேழை வீசியது ஓர் அரிய நறுமணத்தை.

#9b. The wooden chest

The King and Queen welcomed heartily their kula guru Sage Sukar. The sage wanted to know why he had been brought there to the palace?

The king replied, “We wish to have children of our own. The good deeds performed by us did not bear any fruit. Please tell us which puja we will have perform or which vratham we have to observe to be blessed with children”

The sage replied,”Performing the putra kaameshti yagam will surely bless you with children!” The king said, ” I am sure you advice will yield the desired result. Please help us to perform the putra kaameshti yaagam in the prescribed manner.”

The sage agreed to the king’s request. An auspicious day was fixed for the yaagaa. The articles needed for the yaaga were all collected and stored ready. Invitations were sent out to all the king’s friends. The experts in Veda were invited to perform the yaagaa.

On the auspicious day and time, king Aaakaasa Raajan started to plough the yaaga saalaa. The Veda gosham and the music by the experts also filled the air. The king went on ploughing but hit something and could not go any further.

He tried to plough forcefully and there was a noise as the plough struck on something hard. The king’s men dug at the obstruction and found a beautiful wooden chest buried in the earth. They took it out and brought it to the king very carefully.

The wooden chest was carved beautifully and gave out a wonderfully pleasant smell.



 
DEVI BHAAGAVATAM - SKANDA 6

6#8b. இந்திராணி தேவி

செய்வது அறியாத தேவர்கள், முனிவர்கள்,
சென்றனர் மீண்டும் குரு பிருஹஸ்பதியிடம்.

“தஞ்சம் புகுந்துள்ள இந்திராணி நகுஷனைக்
கொஞ்சி மகிழ்வதில் என்ன தோஷம் கூறும்?” என

“இந்திரனாக வந்தவன் அனுபவிக்கலாம் இங்கு
இந்திர போகங்களை எல்லாம் விருப்பம் போல.

அனுபவிக்க முடியாது பிறன் மனைவியை மட்டும்;
அனுமதிக்காது தர்மம் இந்தப் பாவத்தை மட்டும்!

சரண் புகுந்துள்ளாள் தன் கற்பைக் காத்துக் கொள்ள;
முரண் பட்டாகிலும் காப்பாற்றுவேன் சசி தேவியை!” என

“நகுஷன் கோபக்காரன்; துஷ்டனாகி விட்டான்.
நகுஷன் இழைப்பான் பல தீமைகளை நமக்கு!” என

“அபாயம் நீங்க வேண்டும் எனில் செய்வோம்
உபாயம் ஒன்று இந்திராணியின் உதவியுடன்.

நடிக்க வேண்டும் இந்திராணி நகுஷனிடம் சென்று;
நடிக்க வேண்டும் அவனுக்கு இணங்குவது போல!

‘தடையில்லை உம்மை அடைவதில் எனக்கு- என்
உடையவனின் நிலைமையை அறிந்திட வேண்டும்!’

காலக் கெடு விதிக்கட்டும் இந்திராணி – அந்தக்
கெடுவுக்குள் கண்டு பிடிப்போம் இந்திரனை!”

சென்றாள் இந்திராணி நகுஷனைத் தேடி,
நின்றாள் மனம் நிறைய அச்சத்துடன் கூடி.

ஞாலம் கருதினும் கைக் கூடுவது எப்போது?
காலம் கருதி இடத்தால் செய்யும் போது!

உலகம் உய்ய வேண்டும்! விசாலம். K. ராமன்

6#8b. IndrANi Devi

The Devas and sages were helpless by these specific commands laid by Nahushan. They asked Bruhaspati, “What is wrong if IndrANi accepts Nahushan as her new husband?”

Bruhaspati replied, “As the new Indra Nahushan can enjoy all the pleasures of Heaven but he can not enjoy the wife of another person. All the Sastras forbid it. She has taken refuge in me and I will protect her and her virtue at any cost.”

The Devas and sages said now, ” Nahushan has changed a lot and has become very adamant and arrogant. He can cause us a lot of troubles if he feels displeased.”

They evolved a scheme. IndrANi should pretend to accept Nahushan’s claim but she must buy sometime during which Indra had to be located and their future course of action planned.

IndrANi must go to Nahushan and say that she wanted to know about the fate of her husband by a certain time limit before accepting Nahushan as her husband. Accordingly IndrANi went to meet Nahushan - very tense and worried wondering what was in her fate?


 
Kandapuraanam (Urppathik Kaandam)

7. மணம் பேசுதல்.

மணம் பேசி முடிவு செய்தால் அன்றோ
மணம் புரிந்து கொள்ள இயலும் பின்னர்?

உமையை மணம் பேசிட முனிவர்களை,
இமயத்துக்கு அனுப்பினான் சிவபிரான்.

இமவானும், மோனையும் வரவேற்றனர்
சிவனருள் பெற்ற முனிபுங்கவர்களை.

“இறைவனுக்கு உமையை மணம் பேசிட,
பிறையணி நாதன் பணித்தான் எம்மை!”

உமையைத் திருமணம் செய்து தர
இமவான் ஒப்பினான் மகிழ்வுடன்.

மோனைக்கு அச்சம் இருந்ததால்,
தானே கேள்விக்கணை தொடுத்தாள்.

“தக்ஷன் மகளைச் சிவபிரான் மணந்தான்;
தக்ஷன் தலையைக் கொய்வித்தான் அவன்,

அக்கதையைக் கேட்டு அஞ்சுகின்றேன் நான்
முக்கண்ணனுக்கு எம் மகளை அளிக்க!”

“மகளை மணம் செய்வித்ததால் தக்ஷன்
தலையைக் கொய்யவில்லை சிவன்,

சிவனை இகழ்ந்து வேள்வி செய்ததால்,
அவனை அழிக்கவேண்டி இருந்தது தாயே!

தன்னைப் பணிவோருக்குத் தண்ணருளும்,
தன்னை இகழ்வோருக்கு இன்னல்களும்,

பிறையணி நாதன் ஈவது இயல்பே!
மறையோரும் பிறரும் அறிவார் இதை.”

“பெண் புத்தி பின் புத்தி என்பதற்கேற்ப
உண்மை அறியாமல் பிதற்றி விட்டேன்!”

மன்னிப்புக் கேட்டாள் முனிபுங்கவரிடம்,
தன் தவற்றை உணர்ந்த அன்னை மோனாதேவி.

“ஈசனுக்கு மகளை மணம் செய்வதற்கு
நேசத்துடன் யாம் காத்துள்ளோம் அறிவீர்!

நாளையே இங்கு எழுந்தருளி, நல்ல
வேளையில் மணம் புரியவேண்டும்!”

இன்சொற்களை இமவான் இங்ஙனம் கூற
இன்பம் அடைந்தனர் முனிபுங்கவர்கள்.

அன்புடன் நடந்ததைச் சிவனுக்கு உரைத்துப்
பின்பு தம் இருப்பிடம் திரும்பிச் சென்றனர்.

1# 7. THE WEDDING PROPOSAL.

The wedding should be proposed by the groom and accepted by the parents of the bride. Siva requested the rushis to talk on his behalf to Uma’s parents and get the proposal accepted by them.

The king and queen welcomed the rushis. The rushis explained the purpose of their visit. HimavAn was more than happy at the proposal but Mona Devi had had her own doubts and shot a question at the rushis.

“I hear that Siva beheaded Dakshan – whose daughter he had married. This makes me hesitate as I am afraid of Siva!”

“Siva did not kill Dakshan just because He had married his daughter. It was because Dakshan humiliated Siva on purpose – during the Yagnam performed by him. Siva blesses and protects His devotees and punishes the miscreants. Everyone knows this to be true.”

Mona Devi begged for pardon and repented her hasty remarks. HimavAn requested the rushis to inform Siva that He was welcome there the next day to marry Uma at an auspicious hour.

The rushis were happy that their mission had been successful. They went to Kailash, told Siva of all the happenings. Then they took leave of Him and went back to their dwellings.

9c. பத்மாவதி

தென்றல் தழுவிச் சென்றது குளிர்ச்சியாக!
தெளித்தது வானம் நன்னீர்த் துளிகளை!

பூமியை உழுத ஜனகனுக்குச் சீதையைப் போல,
பூமியை உழுத மன்னனுக்கு கிடைத்தது என்ன?

பேழையைச் சமர்பித்தான் மன்னன் குருவிடம்;
பேழையைத் திறந்தார் ஆர்வத்துடன் குலகுரு.

ஆயிரக் கணக்கான தாமரை இதழ்களில்
ஆனந்தமாக சயனித்திருந்தாள் குழந்தை!

பெருகியது கண்ணீர் பெருகிய உவகையால்!
பரிவுடன் வணங்கினான் குருவின் பாதங்களை!

ஆகாசத்தில் இருந்து ஒலித்தது ஓர் அசரீரி.
“ஆகாச ராஜன்! பூர்வ ஜன்ம புண்ணியம் இது.

பூர்த்தியடைந்தது உன் நித்திய கோரிக்கை.
புத்திரி கிடைத்தாள் உன் மனக் குறை தீர!”

மார்புறத் தழுவினான் மலர்க் குழந்தையை!
ஆர்வத்துடன் அடைந்தான் அரண்மனையை.

பெயர் இட்டான் குழந்தைக்கு பத்மாவதி என.
பெயர்க் காரணம் தாமரையிதழ்களில் சயனம்.

நடத்தினான் தான தருமங்கள் நாடெங்கும்;
நடத்தினான் பூஜைகள் ஆலயங்கள் எங்கும்.

தன் வீட்டிலேயே தேவி வந்து பிறந்ததுபோல
தன்னிறைவு அடைந்தனர் ஒவ்வொருவரும்.

#9c. Padmaavati

The king gave the wooden chest to his guru. The chest was opened by the guru. Inside the chest, they found a beautiful girl child lying on thousands of lotus petals!

Tears of joy sprang in the eyes of the king! He paid obeisance to his guru. An asareeri was heard from the sky. “AakAsa RAjan! This is the fruit of your poorva janma puNyam (good merits). Your wish has been fulfilled now. You have got a beautiful daughter!”

The king embraced the child and took her to the palace. He named her as PadmAvati since she was found lying on the petals of lotus flowers.

The king donated wealth to the needy. He performed abhishekha AarAdhana in all the temples. The whole country was happy celebrating the arrival of the child – as if the child had been born in the house of each one of them!

6#8c. நகுஷனின் மகிழ்ச்சி

மகிழ்ந்தான் இந்திராணியைக் கண்ட நகுஷன்;
“மனம் கனிந்தாயா மனோ ரம்மியமானவளே!

உன்னை நான் அடையும் அந்த தினத்தில் தான்
உண்மையில் நான் இந்திரன் ஆவேன்!” என்றான்.

“தர வேண்டும் ஒரு வரம் பேதைப்பெண் எனக்கு;
அறிய வேண்டும் இப்போது இந்திரனின் இருப்பிடம்.

இருப்பதும், இல்லாததும் அறிந்த பின்னர் என்னால்
விருப்புடன் இணங்க முடியும் தடையின்றி உமக்கு!”

தப்பி விட்டாள் தாற்கலிகமாக எனினும் சசிதேவி
தப்ப வேண்டும் நிரந்தரமாக நகுஷனிடமிருந்து.

“கண்டு பிடியுங்கள் என் கணவர் உள்ள இடத்தை!”
கண் கலங்க வேண்டினாள் தேவர்களிடம் இந்திராணி.

பிரம்ம ஹத்தி பீடித்த இந்திரன் ஒளிந்துள்ளான்
பிறர் கண்களுக்குத் தெரியாமல் எங்கோ சென்று!

உதவிட வேண்டும் இந்திரனைக் கண்டுபிடிக்க;
உதவிட வேண்டும் இந்திராணி கற்பைக் காக்க!

தேவர்கள் துதித்தனர் விஷ்ணு மூர்த்தியை – தமது
தேவைக்கு உதவுபவன் என்றும் அவனே அன்றோ?

“தேவியைத் துதித்தால் தீரும் பாவங்கள் – எனவே
தேவர்கள் புரிய வேண்டும் அஸ்வமேத யாகம்.

தேவி போக்கி விடுவாள் பிரம்மஹத்தி தோஷத்தை;
தேவியைத் துதிக்க வேண்டும் இந்திராணியும் கூட!

வசப்படுத்துவாள் மோகத்தில் நகுஷனை பராசக்தி;
நாசம் செய்துவிடுவாள் நீசன் நகுஷனைப் பராசக்தி.

பாவங்கள் தீர்ந்து தூய்மை அடைந்த இந்திரன்
பயமின்றித் திரும்புவான் சுவர்க்க லோகத்துக்கு!”

6#8c. Nahushan’s delight

Nahushan was delighted to see IndrANi in his palace. “Oh pretty lady! So finally you have taken pity on me! I will become the new Indra, the real king of heaven, only on the day I will have you as mine.”

IndrANi now made a request to him,”I am a helpless woman. I seek a boon from you. I must know the whereabouts of my husband Indra. Only after knowing his present condition and plight, I can decide about my future with you!” Nahushan saw the logic in her request and accepted it.

IndrANi had escaped from Nahushan temporarily but she had to escape from his clutches permanently with the help of her husband Indra. She made a tearful request to the Devas to find her husband as fast as they could.

The Devas always approached VishNu – who was more than willing to help them at the face of any problem. The Devas prayed, “Please help us to locate Indra fast. Please help us to protect the virtue of our queen IndrANi.”

VishNu told them, ” All our sins get washed away when we worship Devi. The Devas must perform an Aswamedha Yaagam. Then Devi will remove Indra’s Brahma haththi dosham. Indra and IndrANi must worship Shakti Devi. She will delude Nahushan and destroy him completely. Indra will be rid of his Brahma haththi dosham and can return to rule the heaven as before!”

8a. திருமண ஏற்பாடுகள்.

திருக்காட்சி தந்து அருளினான் உமைக்கு!
திருமணம் பேச அனுப்பினான் முனிவரை!

உலக அன்னை உமையின் திருமணம்
உலகத் தந்தை சிவ பெருமானுடன்!

நினைத்த மாத்திரத்தில் எதிரில் நின்றான்
அனைத்தும் அறிந்த தேவத் தச்சன்.

“திருமணத்திற்காக அலங்கரிப்பாய்
பருவதத்தை அமராவதிக்கு நிகராக!”

திறமைகளை எல்லாம் வெளிக்காட்டி,
அழகிய நகரையே உருவாக்கினான்!

கோபுரங்கள், மண்டபங்கள், பந்தல்கள்,
சாமரங்கள், மலர் மாலைகள், கொடிகள்,

தோரணங்கள், வாழை, பாக்கு மரங்கள்,
தோதாகப் பொருட் சாலைகள் என்று.

பதினாதிரம் யோஜனை பரப்புள்ள மதில்!
திசைக்கொன்றாக வாசலில் கோபுரங்கள்;

பசும் பொன் மண்டபம் ஒன்று நடுவிலே;
பன்னீர், சந்தனம், கஸ்தூரி தெளித்தான்.

பல வண்ணத் திண்ணைகள் அமைத்தான்
சிலைகளை அழகுற நிறுவி அமைத்தான்.

இந்திர நீல இரத்தின அரியணை ஒன்று
சுந்தர மணமக்கள் மண்டபத்தில் எழுந்தருள!

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

1#8a. THE WEDDING ARRANGEMENTS.

Siva had given dharshan to Uma. He had sent the Rishivars to move the marriage proposal. The wedding of the ‘Mother of the Universe’ with ‘Father of Creation’!

HimavAn thought of the heavenly carpenter, and he appeared there in a moment. “It is the wedding of the Gods. Decorate HimAlaya to match with Indra’s city AmarAvathy.”

The divine carpenter was well pleased with his assignment. He built an entire city on the mountain! There were Gopurams, mandapam, pandals, pankhAs, flower garlands, flowering creepers, banana trees, betel nut trees and decorations of all kinds.

A huge area of 10,000 yojanas was enclosed with high walls. At the center was a beautiful wedding mandapam made of purest gold. Rose water mixed with sandal paste and kasthoori was sprinkled there.

Many attractive statues were set in spots decorating the place. A throne studded with the sparkling blue sapphires was set for the couple to sit upon.

10. நாரதர்

நாளொரு மேனி பொழுதொரு வண்ணம்;
நற்குணங்கள் அனைத்தின் ஓர் இருப்பிடம்.

நந்த வனத்தில் தோழியாரோடு ஆனந்தமாகப்
பந்து விளையாடுகையில் வந்தார் ஒரு கிழவர்.

வயது முதிர்ந்த கிழவராக வந்த நாரதர்
“பயத்தை விட்டுவிட்டு வா இங்கே!” என,

தயங்கினாள் பத்மாவதி அவரை அறியாது!
“தயக்கம் வேண்டாம் நான் அந்நியனல்ல!

கைரேகை கண்டு சொல்லுவேன் பலன்
தையல் உந்தன் எதிர் காலத்தைப் பற்றி!”

நீட்டினாள் தன் இடக் கரத்தை பத்மாவதி;
நீட்டிய கரத்தைப் பிடித்து நோக்கினார் அவர்.

“தெய்வாம்சம் பொருந்திய கை கூறுகிறது
வைகுந்த வாசனை நீ மணக்கப் போகிறாய்!”

“அத்தனை பாக்கியமா எனக்கு?” வியந்தாள்
அவள் கண்டாள் நாரத முனிவரை எதிரில்.

“அறிவிக்கவே வந்தேன் உனக்கு நான் இன்று !
அறிவாய் உன் கணவன் வைகுந்தவாசன் என்று!”

ஆட்டத்தில் செல்லவில்லை அவள் மனம்;
நாட்டம் கொண்டு விட்டது பரந்தாமனிடம்

நிறைத்தாள் உள்ளம் முழுவதும் நாரணனை.
உரைத்தாள் உள்ளன்போடு “நாராயணா!” என்று!

“பருவ வயதில் உனக்கு இத்தனை பக்தியா?” என
அருமைத் தோழிகள் கேலி செய்தனர் அவளை!

கேட்டாள் நாராயணன் செய்த லீலைகளை.
கண்டாள் நாராயணனின் திவ்விய ரூபத்தை.

உரைத்தாள் நாராயணின் திவ்ய நாமங்களை .
பணிந்தாள் நாராயணின் திவ்ய விக்ரஹத்தை.

வைகுந்தவாசனை மணக்கும் சுபவேளைக்குத்
தையல் காத்திருந்தாள் மிக்க ஆர்வத்துடன்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

#10. NArada

PadmAvati grew up well. She was pretty as well good natured. She was playing in the garden with her friends one day. NArada came there disguised as an old man. He asked PadmAvati to show her palm so that he could read her future.

At first PadmAvati hesitated as he was a total stranger. Later on she sat near him and showed him her left palm. The old man (NArada) told her,”You palm is divine and auspicious. It says you will marry lord VishNu himself.”

PadmAvati was very happy to hear of her good fortune and saw NArada standing in front of her instead of the old man. NArada told her, “I came here to tell you that you will marry Vaikuntha vAsan himself.”

Now PadmAvati lost all interest in playing with her friends. She felt deep love for NArAyNan. She filled her mind with thoughts about him. She uttered his name very often. Her friends made fun of her for becoming so very pious at such a young age!

PadmAvati wanted to listen to the leelA performed by NArAyaNAn. She kept repeating his name with love. She wanted to see his roopam. She paid obeisance to his vigraham.

Padmaavati was waiting eagerly for the auspicious day when lord NArAyan would marry her.

6#8d. இந்திரன்

செய்தனர் அஸ்வமேத யாகம் தேவர்கள்;
செய்தாள் இந்திராணி தேவி ஆராதனை.

குரு பிருஹஸ்பதியின் உதவியுடன் அளித்தனர்
பிரம்மஹத்தி தோஷத்தைப் பகிர்ந்து நால்வருக்கு.

மலைக்கு ஒரு பங்கு, மரங்களுக்கு ஒரு பங்கு;
பூமிக்கு ஒரு பங்கு, பூவையருக்கு ஒரு பங்கு.

பாவம் நீங்கித் தூய்மை அடைந்தான் இந்திரன்;
பாவம் நீங்கினாலும் திரும்பவில்லை சுவர்க்கம்!

தாமரைத் தண்டிலே மறைந்திருந்தான் – தண்ணீர்
தடாகத்தில் முன்பு ஒளிந்து இருந்தது போலவே.

பிரம்மஹத்தி நீங்கிய பிறகும் கணவன் வராததால்
பிருஹஸ்பதியிடம் முறை இட்டாள் இந்திராணி.

“இடைவிடாது செய்வாய் தேவியின் ஆராதனை;
தடைகள் நீங்கி அடைவாய் உந்தன் கணவனை!”

விதிமுறைகளை உபதேசித்தார் இந்திராணிக்கு;
திரிபுர சுந்தரியை ஆராதித்தாள் இந்திராணி தேவி.

இன்ப போகத்தில் நாட்டம் கொண்டவள் இந்திராணி,
இன்ப வஸ்துக்களைத் துறந்து விட்டாள் இப்போது.

தவக் கோலம் பூண்டு தூய வாழ்வு வாழ்ந்தாள்;
தவித்தாள் கணவன் இந்திரனின் வருவைக்காக.

மனம் கனிந்தாள் அன்னை பராசக்தி இது கண்டு,
மனம் கொண்டாள் இந்திராணியின் துயர் தீர்த்திட.

6#8d. Indra and IndrANi

The Devas performed an Aswamedha YAgam. IndrANi did AarAdhana of Shakti Devi. With the help
of Deva Guru Bruhaspati, Indra’s Brahma haththi dosham was divided into four parts and passed on to four other objects and persons such as the high Mountains, the Trees, the Earth and the Women.

Indra was rid of his Brahma haththi dosham and regained his original splendour but he still opted to stay hidden. So he did not return to the heaven. He hid himself in the stem of a lotus pant in the MAnasarovar as before.

IndrANi was very upset with this and sought the help of Guru Bruhaspati once again. He told her,”Worship Devi with unshakable devotion. She will unite you with your dear husband Indra.” He taught her the correct rules for worshipping Devi.

IndrANi had loved to indulge in pleasures previously. But now she lived the life of an ascetic and gave up all the objects of pleasure. Now Devi ParA Shakti took pity on IndrANi and decided to remove all her sorrows and solve her problems.


 
Kandapuraanam (Urppathik Kaandam)

8b. திருமணச் செய்தி.

அமராவதியாக மாறிவிட்ட இமயத்தை
இமவான் கண்டு மனம் மகிழ்ந்தான்.

நான்முகன், திருமால், தேவர்களை
அன்பு மனைவியுடன் வருகை தருமாறு

செய்தி விடுத்தான் எல்லோருக்கும்.
செய்தி அறிந்து வந்து குவிந்தனர்!

மந்தரம், மேரு போன்ற மலைகளும்,
திக்கஜங்கள், நாகர்கள், கடல்கள் என்று.

அலைமகளும், கலைமகளும் வணங்கி, பின்
மலைமகளைச் செய்தனர் அரிய மணமகளாக.

மலை அரசன் அடைந்தான் திருக்கயிலை;
மலைமகளை மணம் புரிய ஈசனை அழைக்க,

“கணங்களுடன் கணப் பொழுதில் வருவேன்!
சுணங்காமல் செல்லுவீர் நீவிர் முன்னே!”

இறைவன் ஆணைப்படியே மலை அரசனும்
விரைந்து திரும்பினான் மணமண்டபத்துக்கு.

வாழ்க வளமுடன் விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

1 (# 8 B) THE WEDDING INVITE.

HimavAn was pleased to note that now HimAlayas competed with AmarAvathy in it beauty and splendor. He sent out wedding invites to Brahman, Vishnu and all the other Devas.

Whosoever was invited turned up for the wedding. Mountains like Meru, Manadra giri, the Ashta dig gajas, NAgars, Oceans were all present there.

Lakshmi Devi and Saraswathi Devi arrived with their lords and decorated Uma as a lovely bride. HimavAn went to Kailash with his retinue and invited Siva to marry Uma at the auspicious hour.

Siva told him, ‘I will come with my Siva gaNas. You may please return first”. HimavAn went back with his group of persons.

11a. சந்திப்பு

உலவின துஷ்ட மிருகங்கள் தம் இஷ்டம் போல!
நிலவியது ஆபத்து வனத்தில் வசிப்பவர்களுக்கு!

சுனை அருகே வசிப்பவர்களுக்கு பிராண அபாயம்,
சுனையில் நீர் பருகும் சாது பிராணிகளுக்கும் கூட.

“வேட்டைக்குப் போகின்றேன் அம்மா – விலங்குகளின்
கொட்டத்தை அடக்குவதற்கு!” என்றான் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்.

காட்டை விட்டு வெளியே வந்து திரிபவைகளைக்
காட்டுக்குள் விரட்டினான் அவற்றை அச்சுறுத்தி.

துவம்சம் செய்து கொண்டிருந்தது ஒரு மத யானை!
துரத்தியவுடன் ஓடியது காட்டை விட்டு வெளியே.

வெளியறியது அது சேஷாச்சலத்தை விட்டு விட்டு!
வெறி கொண்ட யானையை விடலாகாது அன்றோ?

நாரயணபுரத்தை நோக்கி ஓடியது மத யானை.
நாராயணனும் துரத்திச் சென்றான் யானையை.

நுழைந்தது ஆகாசராஜனின் உத்தியான வனத்தில்!
‘இழைக்குமோ ஆபத்து அங்கிருந்த பெண்களுக்கு?’

அம்பினால் அடித்தான் அந்த மத யானையை.
தும்பிக்கையைத் தூக்கிப் பிளிறிவிட்டு ஓடியது.

யானை சென்றபின் அழைத்தனர் பத்மாவதியை,
“யானை வந்துள்ளது, திரும்புவோம் அரண்மனை!”

யானையை விரட்டிய நாரணன் வந்தான் அங்கே.
யானை சென்று விட்டது; இருந்தனர் அப் பெண்கள்.

மற்ற பெண்களிடையே இருந்தாள் பத்மாவதி
மணிகளிடையே ஜொலிக்கும் வைரம் போல.

முககாந்தி ஈர்த்தது இரும்பைக் காந்தம் போல.
முன்னேறினான் பெண்கள் கூட்டத்தை நோக்கி.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

#11a. The first meeting

Wild animals from the deep jungle roamed in the forest, closer to the ashrams. Danger was in the air for the people living near the fountains and the gentle animals which came to drink water from the streams and ponds.

SrinivAsan wanted to send back the wild animals deep into the forest. He tool leave of VaguLa MAlikA and went to the woods. He managed to send back most of the wild animals deep into the forest. But there was a mad elephant which started running towards NArayana puram when chased by him.

A mad elephant could not be let loose in highly populated areas. So SinivAsan went chasing it. It ran straight to the garden of AakAsa Raajan where the princess PadmAvati and her friends were playing.

The girls got frightened by the sight of the elephant. SrinivAsan shot an arrow at the elephant. It trumpeted loudly lifting its trunk and ran away from there once again.

Her friends told PadmAvati, “Let us go back to the safety of our palace.'”Just then SrinivAsan came to that spot. He saw PadmAvati who shone among the other girls like a diamond placed among the other gemstones.

Her face which resembled a full moon attracted him like a magnet attracting a piece of iron. He went nearer to those girls daringly.

6#8e. திரிபுரசுந்தரி

திரிபுர சுந்தரியாகத் தோன்றினாள் பராசக்தி!
திகழ்ந்தாள் அழகிய அன்ன வாஹனத்தில்!

கொண்டிருந்தாள் கோடி சூரியர்களின் பிரகாசம்;
கொண்டிருந்தாள் கோடி சந்திரர்களின் குளுமை.

பாச, அங்குச, அபய, வரத ஹஸ்தங்களுடனும்;
பாதம் வரையில் புரளும் முத்து மாலைகளுடனும்.

“அருள வேண்டும் கணவரைக் காணும் பாக்கியம்;
அருள வேண்டும் என் துயர்களைத் துடைத்து நீக்கி.

அருள வேண்டும் கணவர் சுவர்க்கம் திரும்பிட!
அருள வேண்டும் நல்ல வாழ்வு மீண்டும் நிலவிட!”

தேனினும் இனிய குரலில் கூறினாள் இதைத்
தேவி பராசக்தி பக்தை இந்திராணி தேவிக்கு.

“செல்வாய் மானசரோவர் என் தாதியுடன் – அங்கு
காண்பாய் ‘விஸ்வகாமை’ என்ற என் விக்ரஹத்தை;

உள்ளான் இந்திரன் மானசரோவரில் ஒளிந்து கொண்டு;
தள்ளுவேன் நகுஷனை நான் இந்திரப் பதவியிலிருந்து!

அடைய மாட்டாய் துன்பம் நகுஷன் தொல்லையால்;
அடைவாய் இன்பம் சுவர்க்க வாழ்வை மீண்டும் எய்தி!”

சென்றாள் இந்திராணி தாதியுடன் மனசரோவர் தடாகம்.
கொண்டாள் ஆனந்தம் இந்திராணி கணவனைக் கண்டு.

6#8e. Tripura Sundari

Devi appeared to IndrANi as Tripura Sundari, seated on a graceful swan. She was as brilliant as ten million Suns put together and at the same time as cool as ten million full Moons put together. She had PAsam, Ankusam and the Abhaya, Varada mudras in her four hands. Her numerous pearl stings hung down well below her knees.

IndrANi prayed to Devi, ” Oh Mother! Please let me meet my husband. Let him come back to heaven. Let us get our lives back in order. Let us be rid of all the present problems!’ Devi smiled at her and spoke in a voice sweeter than honey,

“Go to MAnasarovar with my attendant. You will see my image ‘Viswa KAmai’ there. Indra is hiding in the MAnasarovar. I will push down Nahushan from his position as the king of heaven very soon. You will not be troubled by him any more. You will unite with your husband Indran and live happily in heaven as before.”

IndrANi went MAnasarovar with Devi’s attendant. She was overwhelmed to meet her husband Indra there.


 
KANDA PURAANAM - URPATHTHIK KAANDAM

9. தேவர்கள் வந்தனர்

“ருத்திரர்களையும், மற்ற தேவர்களையும் இங்கு
மொத்தமாகக் குழுமச் செய்வாய் நந்தி தேவா!”

சிந்தையில் அவர்களை நினைவு கூர்ந்ததும்,
வந்து குழுமினர் நந்தியின் முன் அனைவரும்.

காலாக்னி ருத்திரருடன் நூறுகோடி கணங்கள்;
கூர்மாண்டேசருடன் பல கோடி பூதங்கள்;

ஆடகேசுரருடன் கோடி கோடி ருத்திரர்கள்;
வீரபத்திரருடன் நூறாயிரம் கோடி பூதங்கள்;

அய்யனாருடன் நூறு கோடி பூதங்கள் வந்தன;
அய்யன் கட்டளைப்படி அனைவரும் வந்து,

ஈசனைக் கண்டு போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்தனர்.
மணக்கோலம் காண மிக விழைந்தனர்.

நான்முகன் தந்த பொன் ஆபரணங்களைத்
தான் அணியவில்லை; தொட்டு அருளினார்.

தன் பாம்புகளையும், பிறவற்றையும் மாற்றினார்
மின்னும் பொன், இரத்தின ஆபரணங்களாக!

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

1 #9. GATHERING ALL THE DEVAS.

Siva told Nandhi, “Please make all the Devas gather here on mount Kailash!” As Nandhi thought about each of the Devas, each of them appeared on KailAsh.

KAlAgni Rudran came with a hundred crore GaNas. KoormANdesar turned up with his seventy two crore boothAs. Aadakesuran came with one crore crores Rudras. Veerabadran came with 110,000 crores of GaNas. AyyanAr came with hundred crores boothas.

They all sang the praise of Lord Siva and were eager to see His wedding with Uma. Later Brahma presented Siva with precious ornaments worthy of a groom. Siva merely touched them. He transformed his own bone and snake ornaments into gold jewels studded with precious gems.
