the starter of this thread meghavarshini, appears to have left us.

bored her to death did we :) :)

or another bird of passage (pun definitely meant here) :)

Dear K:

She came here to get some guidance - alas, what she got was a heavy dose of MASSIVE confusion and too many voices and criticisms etc.

Probably, she will never come back again!

Too bad.

dear Y,

may i beg to disagree with you on this one? pliss.

megh came with a lot of anger. megh's replies and retorts, i think, were not akin to someone seeking views or 360 degree.

there was a lot 'anger', some contempt, and what i saw was a tendency to dismiss posts provided here as inadequate or irrelevant.

not quite the attitude of a knowledge seeker. atleast i think so.

the 'MASSIVE confusion' that you talk of, is the norm and behaviour of this forum. we have here folks from all walks of views, including 'too many voices and criticism'.

i think that is thebeauty of our forum, open windows to all views, and a lively 'fish market' atmosphere.

so what do you think was expected instead?

a nice coordinated 'class' session, with a stern moderator, wielding the proverbial stick to regulate participation and views, that may be insync with megh's mode of questioning?

:) :)

why can't she be like you?

after all, you too came here, with questions. a while ago. n'est pas?

Speaking of Buddha, I have always thought of him as an escapist. As much as I respect him and his views, I can't help thinking of the way he got married and then left his wife and child and abandon them, not very exemplary. Whatever else he has given the world today, he didn't do his duty towards his wife IMO.

Y,

as a post script to my earlier post, #178, i do wish to say that the best complement to a poster, is to receive responses.

megh, i think, succeeded beyond any expectation, on that front. that alone, should be a source of gratification and appreciation.

for does it not take effort, interest and knowledge, to take the trouble to pen a reply here.

what is sad and surprising, is that i get a gut feeling, that it might be some joker, playing with the essential decency of all of us here. we may fight tooth and nail, but i do not think, anyone of us abuse each other, in the obtuse way, some birds of passage, drop by, create a ruckus, divide us to the point of killing each other, stand aside, and watch the tamasha.

i believe, that is among, the most gullible, and easily swayed group, particularly if some a hindu based post cries 'wolf' !

indifference, i think, is the best (or the worst) form of insult. i would rather, anyday, be openly verbally abused, than be ignored.

ofcourse, praise would be nice too :) :)

Sometimes a few have to suffer for the greater good of many.

hi amala,

i agree with u....i heard a jataka story abt buddha....when he was born...his royal astrologer predicted that either he will be become

a great chakravarthi of this planet....or great sanyasi of this planet....some time fate takes its own direction....like ir or not....

beleive it or not....fate plays greater role in human beings.....sometimes if we want acheive something in this world...we may have to

loose many things.........may be family and kids too.....i wont say its a great thing...but its natural.....we want to acheive something...

we may have to sacrifice many things.....if u want to continue in UK....you have to sacrifice ur malaysian life....this is natural

phenomena.....its called LIFE.....

Do you want to bring back that troubled fellow Sarvajith or whatever his nick is

Just kidding of course:)

Not only is Buddha , many other sadhus and sanyasis . Lot of mothers, fathers and wives have been heartbroken by the decision of the Sanyasis to take their station of life. I would presume that in Ancient India Sanyasa Ashrama was taken after vanaprastha which was when there was no more attachment to the family members. This seems to be a less hurting way to become a sanyasi.

brahmin...becoz my caste certificate says... im brahmin.....like it or not ....IM BRAHMIN...

.
But who gave you a caste certificate as BRAHMIN and why you have such certificate? Such certificates are issued only for those who will be availing privileges of the reserved! Isn't it? Couple of months back the census officer came to my house for enumeration. He took all the info from me but did not checked my community status (the regular census also requires enumeration for idetifying SC and ST from OC). When I asked him he replied 'madam from your look I know that you are Brahmin. Also you are living in this street of Brahmins'. Even by yesterday when my neighbor wanted to enroll himself as member of BJP party in the stall that they have put near Kapali temple, they automatically marked his community as OC declaring that they can easily identify a Brahmin. Perhaps the answer to the question of this thread is in the subconscious mind of the communities that Brahmins interface. If Sankaracharya runs away...he still remains as Sankaracharya. But if Kshatriya Buddha runs away from his kingly responsibilities...he only has to form his own 'ism. Our identity cannot be erased that easily.

This seems kind of outdated. None of my certificates mentions my caste, even though they were a while ago. In fact nobody in any educational institution never asked my caste. That is how it should be: caste-blind.

In this matter we should learn from Mr. Amitabh Bacchan: DAY 752(ii) | bigb.bigadda.com
His caste is INDIAN

This totally brought a smile to my face, because again first time I have heard it: Kshatriya Buddha. Imagine if we always called him by this name, e.g.
Kshatriya Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath.

Thank you Harini for letting laughter brighten my day!

An SSLC book is an SSLC book and is not a Caste or Community certificate. Particularly the one issued in olden days like 1974 is not accepted as such proof.

The Brahmin in you is very much apparent by the fact that you wanted to ex-communicate yourself to uphold the sanctity of Brahminism. But that is not possible. An ex-service man tag doesn't make you a non-brahmin.

By the way...is it possible to get ex-servicemen certification for me as well for my ex IT Service?

Hi Mr. Biswa:

I finished SSLC in Tamil Nadu in 1967.. my SSLC Book has a question: Religion & Caste.

The clerk has entered something even without our knowledge! So much for the accuracy.. even they enter wrong age!

Cheers.

"By the way...is it possible to get ex-servicemen certification for me as well for my ex IT Service?"

Why not? Get it from your previous employer! lol

Y,

incidentally, my anglo indian high school certificate of 1966, was an eye opener for me.

till then i was merely m.kunjuppu, but for the final exam and government audit - i had to provide DOB (the only proof was my horoscope initiated at birth, no govt certificate) which my father told me.

i know relatives, who took advantage of this, to reduce the recorded age, so that they could get an additional couple of years of government service. no kidding.

this particular habit, had quirky side effects ie one man could not celebrate his real 60th sashti, as he was only officially 58 and was scared that the long arm of the government would get him. so he waited till his spouse turned 60, and celebrated her sashti instead :)

also, i had to come up with surname and christian name. me not being a christian had no clue. my dad just took m. kunjuppu expanded it to muttaal kunjuppu, with muttaal being my christian name :) and K being the surname.

was also asked religion, caste. for the first time, came to know, that my dear christian friends, were officially addressed as 'roman catholics' much to the surprise of some of them too - the moniker roman gave them some sort of european 'airs' :)

i do not know whether the muslims in my class were asked if they were sunni or shia

mercifully when i married years later, the concept of record keeping was becoming the norm. i registered my marriage the day i married, all formal and stamped, sealed. for the benefit of immigration canada. ofcourse !!

we just had our census in canada. just name, age and occupation and citizenship. not even religion or salary or what work i do. compared to this, i find, india, like the ordinary indians, is indeed a very nosy society and government. :)

just kidding on the above underlined quote...

do you really mean this.. முட்டாள் kunjuppu ;)

Not very nice at all this முட்டாள். For the lovely person you are K mama it should have been முட்டாய் instead :) IMO.

K, pardon me, but I just can't accept this as anything more than a joke, really, was your first name entered as such?

I was also completely thrown off with this first name and last name business. What the heck are they, was what I thought when I was filling out application forms for U.S. universities. The long and short of it is, my given name is now stuck as the last name for all of us, including my daughter-in-law who traces her ancestry to France!!!

BTW, the Canadian census reality not withstanding, I am very interested in the caste based Indian census data. With this data we will have objective basis to really understand how true the victimhood narrative of Brahmins really is and how much progress remains to be made for, not economic parity not even think about that, but even a very low bar of economic justice.

Cheers!

Dear Friends

I am of view by varnam elders would have meant only " class" and not "caste"
A son or daughter of a particular class need not be classified as the same class of parent unless
he or she follows the path of his/her parents. Take the case of any rishi. His parentage has nothing to with
his path but he was classified according to his way of life.

So i would like to say "Do you want to be classified as Brahmin or Vaisya etc ? Then follow
the path specified for that particular class.

Run away

.is it possible to get ex-servicemen certification for me as well for my ex IT Service?"

Why not? Get it from your previous employer! lol
But what about quota and that too for my wards. That is not possible with the certificate that I have from my previous employer. I need that e- servicemen certificate that guaranteed all such things!

I was kidding as the way you said it appeared that you have managed ex-serviceman certificate. As a daughter of an Airman (hon) I am already with certificate (I did not managed anything of it). But my point is that we have to run away to far off land (like Canada and France) to drop our identity as Brahmin. Not possible in Tamilnadu even if this forum is not able to decide on the definition of a Brahmin. Cho is not going to escape wrath against Brahmins here just because he managed a serial (most watched by all from all community) stating that Brahmins have vanished in to thin air and so he may not be a Brahmin
