Yes mama. Its a pretty big part of Telugu culture so my grandmother did it every year my mother sometimes. I understand though that its not popular in Kerala so I'm not surprised about Mrs K not doing.

hate to disappoint you amala, but i have a suspicion, mrs K borders on agnosticism.

her mother aka ma-in-law once whispered to me, that mrs K does not like all this god stuff :)

i have lived with it for 31 years. i think she enjoys the social part of pondugal iduthal (as we call sumangali prarthanai)

good lady she is :)

Dear Amala,

Today I was a good girl..never took a drop of water and even a morsel of rice till sunset and i like VV cos we can give the Gastrointestinal system a rest and for the next few days we wont eat that much too and helps to maintain our weight.
But I didnt do any prayers.

Dear Amala,
Welcome to hijack club.I was called Hijacker in another thread too.So we both can be Kutti Pisasu and launch attacks.
So guys better beware!!! HIJACKER KUTTI PISASUS are in town.

I think the word "God" should be abolished and only "Goddess" must be used! We must be fair to the fair kind...

Oh wait, the fair kind is going to bash me for saying this now... any which way we lose!

Hey Barani,

We woman have no problem with the male concept of God.
BTW God is Purusha and eveything else Prakrithi.
So you guys are technically "female" too!!!! LOL

Neither acting like a kutti-pisasu will get you that coveted title, nor kutti-pisasus frighten us as much as Fatty pisasus do! If women really want to scare us they must be at least 88 kg in weight!

Ok we will be Mohini Kutti Pisasus.
BTW yet to come across a Fat Ghost..its not very aerodynamically friendly for a Ghost to be Fat.

88kg? Amala and I togather dont even weigh 100kg and you want us to weigh 88 kg each?

There is no such thing like bhoots, aatmaas, pishachs, Pei. This is just superstition nothing else. andhavishwaas and core bakwaas.one should not speak about these in the 21st century scientific world.

Shri Saiyeen,

According to the Tantriks who routinely perform many kinds of tantrik rituals to save people and property (houses, mainly) from haunting ghosts, the different levels of existence in the universe are (from the highest to the lowest) :—
1. Devas
2. Gandharvas
3. Humans
4. BrahmarakShas
5. Pisaacu (Ghost as we normally call)
6. VetaaLs
7. Bhairavams

One interesting point is that "Brahmarakshases" are the souls or life principles of "Braahmanas" who, instead of devoting their life solely to the attainment of Brahmajnaanam as prescribed in the Divine order of creation, fall into the lure of worldly attractions and eventually die. I asked one Tantrik that as brahmins are today, or for that matter for a few generations earlier also, almost all brahmins must have ended up as "Brahmarakshases" and he replied that it is so in the plane just below the earth. I then asked him whether all those souls would not have reached the pitruloka due to the Antya Karmas and annual Sraaddhas and Tarpanas being done by their descendants. The Tantrik laughed and said it would be difficult for him to convince me but for him (the Tantrik) it is possible to see the enormous crowd of "Brahmarakshases" particularly thronging the Siva temples because they are linked to Rudra.

"Brahmaraakshasa" is different, according to that Tantrik and represents the wandering soul of non-brahmins who try to learn the scriptures and imitate the brahmin way of life when alive in this world.

Probably these are as much interesting topics for discussion as "God Exists" ;)

No Saiyeen, dont be too sure.Paranormal Entities are around us.They are in a different dimension and its just that we dont see them. Not too sure if they can see us.
Its just like different floors in an apartment..we dont know everyone in every floor.
When there is a portal of entry from one dimension to another then earth bound spirits with unfulfilled desires make their entry and we humans who have ESP can actually see them sometimes.

Never doubt the existence of anything..the Truth Is Out There.. X Files.

Hello Dr RK,
A Very Good understanding by you of Paramathma.HE is the only Supreme and Purusha(means Leader and not man). All the rest are Created by Him from Moolappragrithi. All men, women, chit achith etc,etc Originate from Him.All of us are His property. This is Ramanuja's Sidhantham.

Beg to differ, this is not Ramanuja's Siddhantham.

The VA siddhantam of Bhagavat Ramanuja asserts three tathvas, never created, and they are Chit (Jeeva), Achit (jadam), and Iswara. Chit and Achit are inseparable, but distinct from Iswara. They have a three-fold relationship to Iswara -- supported/supporter, commanded/commander, and enjoyed/enjoyer. This three-fold relationship is natural and can never be undone.

So, to say everything originated from Iswara is Ramanuja Siddhantam is incorrect. Your last observation "All of us are His property." is indeed part of Ramanuja Siddhantam.

Cheers!

attributing gravity existance to newton is wrong.newton formulated laws of gravity.similiarly existance of god is a realisation born within a individual,to attribute gods existance to a person or diety is only a helpful tool for ultimate realisationof god consciouness.

Whether "God" exists or not, these 1300-and-odd posts will probably exist in the forum archives for many years.

As Shri Yamaka pointed out, the OP visualised God as a barber who has his shop open (perhaps 24x7) and awaits customers eagerly. But the discussions here wandered off in a very different direction, viz., whether the said Barber exists or not. I had been expecting some of our brahminist (by which I mean those who reveal intolerance to any new idea other than that which they have got into their heads from their so-called brahmin upbringing) members to take objection to the comparison (odious?) of God to barber. Since no such objection has come up even after 1300 posts, I presume that God can perhaps be visualized as a supernatural barber who does not shave the hair but shaves the brains of His devotees so that their brains are permanently closed shut for new and unorthodox views and thoughts. ;)

For the first time in this thread some one has come out with what he understands by the term brahminism. Welcome. Oh boy! am i not happy that I am not a brahmin by this definition and so am eligible for all the reservations and victimhood doles in this forum. Plus, I can now call myself a member of the elite club in this thread whose divine ordained privilege it is to define such things. If God can be a chariot driver, can be a shepherd, can be a begging brahmin, can be a mischievous thief etc., he can as well be a barber. Theists here are not stung by this new nama coined. It is rather pathetic that the sages here do not know the difference between shaving and scrubbing. May be, where they are required to shear out some extra unwanted growth they tend to scrub out whatever is there and that is perhaps 'un'orthodoxy. Long live 'unorthodoxy'!

Cheers.

Once there was an argument between two gentlemen on some point of law.
One of them commented during the course of the discussion - that is his
funeral. The other one flared up and accosted the former - how dare you
talk about funeral. Mr.X is alive. Do not bring death and funeral here !

I am of the opinion that at the time of initiating this discussion he was
just giving an example. He did not compare God with a barber.

Your condemnation of all the members is not what I would do. Thanks.

Dear Rangnatha Ji,

How can we forget this episode from Mahabharat:

In the middle of the night Sri Krishna went to Draupadi, woke her up and asked her to prepare a plate for Puja. Draupadi did so without any question. Sri Krishna asked her to follow Him. As they walked Draupadi’s slipper were making a noise, this may wake other people. Sri Krishna asked Draupadi to take off her slipper, and He picked them up. Sri Krishna lead Draupadi to Bhishmapitma ‘s tent. Sarathi - the Chariot Driver; Srimad Bhagavat Katha:-day 2

To a true devotee God will assume any form.Don't you agree with me?
