Bhajji +sojji are delicious along with filter coffee

If one can get a girl along with it, one TB might imagine he is an Omar khayyam and turn lyrical singing the latest tamil hit.

Bhajji + Sojji along with filter coffee will last only for few hours.

But the girl................... some TBs who mostly live in imaginery world might imagine himself as 'Alexander the Great' and turn lyrical singing of old tamil hit.

With all due respects to the gentleman mentioned in the article.

Why should the village feel proud? Why should India feel proud? He has gone to the US. He is not a priest. Two generations of his families are in US. We do not know whether they speak Tamil the TB style or the US style. We do not know whether they celebrate pongal (the harvest festival), and whether it coincides with the weather and harvest season of USA (their homeland). We do not know if they perform trikala gayathri japam in winter and summer. (Forget aupasanam and study of the scriptures.)

What are we chasing?

Mr auh:

Do you do all the things you have listed - Japam et al.?

These days people can buy even that with a peg or two of strong vodka and one or two pills called viagra. LOL.

Mr Vaagmi:

Surely you have no experience with these sin stuff!
How do you know dosage is 1 to 2 pills -- your naughty side is being noticed, OMG

LOL

Thats because I offered mangalore bonda instead of sojji and bajji.

Some one might be thinking of younger days when he could get bajji and sojji .

Some face serious age related mental issues and miss out on exciting offers in chennai..

When some one is out of Delhi, i.e. out of touch with XXX Road their favourite spot which offers them excitement, they lose their mind and do eccentric things, perhaps they need to grow and get more educated to adopt themselves with different environment.

Solar energy food processing is reported to add real value to the product but will it retain the nutrients better.....?

Of course, TBs who wander in dreamland won't mind enjoying the excellent excitement under the hot sun of river bed munching vadams with punching bags!!

Auh Ji

I know that this Forum is a platform for members consisting of all shades to express their opinion freely, but I sincerely believe that there is a ‘Lakshman rekha’ and there is a need for self-regulation too.

Now my answers are given in blue.

Are you trying to convey that Arab invaders beheaded only Brahmins, that only Brahmins were crucified in Portuguese inquisitions, and that only Brahmins were vilified by British missionaries?

Can you solemnly and sincerely deny that these Arabian Invaders have not beheaded Brahmins, Portuguese have not crucified Brahmins during the Inquisition at Goa and the British Missionaries treated us well?

Well sir, for a start can you please list out the features of Brahmin culture and answer my queries as to why it should be preserved and what special benefit or end we seek to attain? Who and when can someone be classified as a BB? Please clarify.

Well Sir, as for your queries as to why it should be preserved and what special benefit or end we seek to attain, etc I would like to add that it is an அரைத்து அரைத்து பிளித்துப்போன மாவு as defined by one of the senior members of this Forum. I vouch his opinion.

Who and when can someone be classified as a BB? Please clarify.

Well, those who are against Brahmanism are considered as Brahmin Bashers. To be more specific those who insult, humiliate, ridicule Brahmins their traditions and culture.

Now I have a question. Can you be honest and declare before the members of this Forum that there is nothing against Brahmins amounting to insult, humiliation, ridiculing, etc in this thread?

I do not think that any "left out brahmins" of this forum are morally crucified. That seems too far a stretch.

May be it is your opinion. For an orthodox and sensitive hapless Brahmins, mention of such words like intellectual violence, arrogance, etc may be quite damaging.

Please do not slander the poster as this serves no purpose other than to heat the discussion up.

I have absolutely no idea to slander anyone in this Forum.

Whose version of reality?

There is no your version or our version in reality? What is happening before us in our everyday life is reality.

When somebody differs on an opinion, it does not mean that like minded members have to immediately group up and gag the opposing voices. When we do that it means we are showing a similar intolerance that we see in the extremists

There is no grouping up as such and have never attempted to muzzle anyone’s voice. But never fail to retort/retaliate anyone who try to rub the wrong way.

When a topic is being seriously discussed, I appreciate members contributing healthy debate, lively exchange of opinion, etc But I am against someone ridiculing the community, humiliating the culture and tradition, etc without understanding the rich value. Hope I made my point clear.

Last but not the least is that being a knowledge seeker, I am here to learn.:-)

Sir, I am at a loss to understand what you are attempting to convey. Invaders and others may have killed brahmins along with other hindus. But what is relevant from that episode to this thread?

Pointing out follies and discriminative attitude is not equivalent to insulting or humiliating. After all I am only asking to introspect.

Thanks,

I did go through the post and the NY Times article linked therein

With all due respects to your post, I fail to see your objection to the article posted.

I have not come across more than 10 persons in this forum confessing to to doing sandhyavandanam, or gayatri japam (even once a day - forget trikAlam and aupasanam etc.) But that has not stopped them from considering themselves as brahmins and pointing inadequacies of brahmin culture (whatever the culture may mean - I feel presently the definition of culture especially TB is quite nebuluous), especially proferring advice after advice to TBs at the drop of the proverbial hat.

That being the case, why should Sri Srinivasan be doing all of the above to be eligible to be discussed in this forum?

About village feeling proud... During their hey days KrishnamachAri SrikAnth, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Teldulkar etc. used to perform admirably in cricket and the whole country used to feel proud of their achievement. My or your feeling proud or ashamed does not in any way affect the adulation the Society at large bestows on the achievers. I doubt whether the aforesaid mentioned cricketers performed their sandhyavandanam or restricted their food to only vegetarianism (at least Sachin Tendulkar did not) but they are always reported to be belonging to brahmin community and they did not object to it.

One naturally feels to be associated with an "Achiever" in whatever way a connection can be made. What is wrong with that?

On the other hand, there are 1000s of posts in this forum terming TBs as "Ambis" and "Ammanjis" pejoratively as a matter of routine. No one including your goodselves raised even a mild objection to this abject mischievous over generalization and many such posts got the "Likes" or "Thumbs up" sign. What were we chasing then?

May be you missed reading this paragraph in the NY article, which says a lot about the feelings of the villagers, though it is just a one liner:

"Outside the temple sat a farmer named Kanakaraj, who grows rice on a meager half-acre of land. He has been observing the unusual goings-on, and when asked what he knew about it, gave a sudden, dazzling smile.

“Our son in America, he is a judge,” he said. “I don’t know about the family. But a judge — a judge is like a god.”

He (and others like him) perhaps had a better feeling to being the member/s the society in which Sri Srunivasan or their ancestors had also been a part, than TBs, a thing which TBs can better try to emulate.

I did read through the entire article and the relevance of my post is somewhat suited to the topic discussed in this thread only.

I am pointing to the irony of the post in this forum where we discuss about maintaining TB culture (similar to purity of breed) and yet do not hesitate to praise a person from a TB family, and settled in a foreign land (for two generations) where following all the norms required of our culture is not possible.

I have nothing against the farmer in the village, or the gentleman mentioned in the article.

Trust this clears.
