How to arrest the slide in TB numbers

Am waiting on this for more ideas relating to OP!

Usually most topics started with good intent somehow degenerate into some trivialities or inane items.

There is one point I want to reiterate and it applies to all cultures (and hence to TB culture).

Those cultures that have promoted and condoned Adharmic actions will eventually disappear. This is like a law of nature.

These include many actions some of which I have enumerated earlier.

The only way a culture survives the onslaught of time is by practicing the culture with full understanding of the significance of all the practices and its connection to Dharmic living.

If the above is followed, nature will take care of the prosperity of a culture. One can ask 'why preserve a culture' ?

My view is that one cannot preserve a culture, but only Understand and Follow Dharma though their cultural expressions.
When the above happens, the by product is that culture is defined well and is naturally preserved.

The above applies to all castes. There are no shortcuts.

What is culture? What are we trying to preserve?
I have been asking this question, but no one answers it. They just keep lamenting about the loss of culture.
Culture is like a river, or breeze. You can not hold it in a place. If you arrest the river, it no longer is a river. Similarly arrested practice is not culture.

Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts.

The Center for Advance Research on Language Acquisition goes a step further, defining culture as shared patterns of behaviors and interactions, cognitive constructs and understanding that are learned by socialization. Thus, it can be seen as the growth of a group identity fostered by social patterns unique to the group.

The word "culture" derives from a French term, which in turn derives from the Latin "colere," which means to tend to the earth and grow, or cultivation and nurture. "It shares its etymology with a number of other words related to actively fostering growth," Cristina De Rossi, an anthropologist at Barnet and Southgate College in London, told Live Science.

Many countries are largely populated by immigrants, and the culture is influenced by the many groups of people that now make up the country. This is also a part of growth. As the countries grow, so does its cultural diversity.

Constant change

No matter what culture a people are a part of, one thing is for certain, it will change. Culture appears to have become key in our interconnected world, which is made up of so many ethnically diverse societies, but also riddled by conflicts associated with religion, ethnicity, ethical beliefs, and, essentially, the elements which make up culture," said De Rossi. "But culture is no longer fixed, if it ever was. It is essentially fluid and constantly in motion." This makes it so that it is difficult to define any culture in only one way.

Culture is a powerful human tool for survival, but it is a fragile phenomenon. It is constantly changing and easily lost because it exists only in our minds. Our written languages, governments, buildings, and other man-made things are merely the products of culture. They are not culture in themselves. For this reason, archaeologists can not dig up culture directly in their excavations. The broken pots and other artifacts of ancient people that they uncover are only material remains that reflect cultural patterns--they are things that were made and used through cultural knowledge and skills.

In continuation of posts 100, 112 and 128.

The subject has become so hammered by anti brahmin rant here that the original subject has been forgotten completely. Now this attempt by me is to take it back to the subject of OP.

Before I write any more I would request all the doubting Thomases and the Revolutionery colonisers who have settled down abroad or other states to raise their objections to what i am going to write in a separate thread and not to derail this conversation once more.

what is the situation?

Brahmin community is under attack. It is a micro minority, struggling to keep its distinct identity in a country which is nothing but a majotitarian anarchy. Here neither brahmins nor other sAtvic minorities like dalits can live peacefully with equal rights to compete with others. Ruling out violence as it is against the very kernel of these pathetic minorities, other methods to live here peacefully have to be found.

Reservation is used as a political instrument to keep the brahmins subjugated and isolated. IC marriages are eating into the vitals of brahmin community. These are the two menaces which need to be addressed immediately.

Now how do we go about this? I suggest the following measures.

what all need to be done?

1. The first and foremost requirement is collection of data and creation of a data base. We need to do this urgently. A simple form of questionnaire can be distributed widely through ads., handouts at temples and marriages/upanayanams etc.,

Mr Vagme, please insist on propagating this effort. I m with you many would follow. Enough we all have done On every topic . What we need is time bound action.enthusiastic Veterans, who invariably offer suggestions & 19 of them to benominated by our leader & request them to chalk outa program of action and others would give unstintedsupport & achieve the Goal
Let us jointly request Mr. Praveen to make a start by calling a Meeting of All in Chennai.

In continuation of post # 330

The aim is to form a Brahmins Panchayat (onthe lines of Parsi Panchayat in Mumbai and the magamai of Southern Nadar groups) in which all brahmins would be eligible to become members. For this the data base is the first need. The database will be-available to all brahmins who will be given a smart card and a password to access the data base.
Thus the parents or husband of a TB girl who has to go to the distant Macao Islands or Sacramento on official work has a ready database to search and find where to get help from in case of need. A TB youngman/ Girl going to the Kings College or Harwards can find others from the community there for networking. A TB youngman/girl badly in need of a good job can find whom to touch for quick help. A TB executive looking for a good employee can get a TB youngman/girl for the job by adding a tulsi dal to the TB youngman/girl's pan on the balance when there is a tough tie. The data base can be used for several collective actions too. The possibilities are many.

In course of time a separate TV channel can be floated which has immense possibilities for serving the community. This channel can be in addition to whatever channels are there run by mutts and other religious institutions. This channel can promote and preserve our cultures and traditions and can teach noble values to youngsters.

The BP (Brahmin Panchayat) can help poor and helpless from the community in getting their legal rights protected/enforced by giving them the necessary references to advocates from the community who are in the network.

can set up a University and a few colleges/schools

(Will be continued)

Dear Vaagmi ji,

For the Brahmin Panchayat...how would a "Natamai" be selected?

Now this is a very important question...cos once there is a post...then differences among TBs will crop up and one sect/sub-sect might favor their own sect to be 'Natamai'..for example Iyer might prefer an Iyer to head the Panchayat.
Vadakalai might prefer a Vadakalai and so on.

Also..do you really feel youngsters would abide to such suggestions?

BTW to increase the number of TBs..why not Iyers and Iyengars consider Intersect marriage with each other?

Absolutely no problem. Already in Tamil Nadu most of the Iyers, irrespective of sub sect, have thought they lacked leadership qualities and accepted Iyengars in politics, music and in other fields as their leaders.

The problem, in all probability, will be between VK and TK.

For example, Kanchi Mutt Head used to finish his speech by saying 'Narayana Narayana'. LOL

Your questions will be addressed later.

This thread is becoming hilarious now. :)

Auh,

When a serious lecture is delivered there are back benchers who create all the ruckus in the class! I think we should allow Vaagmiji to complete what he wants to state..Then we can debate the pros/cons and feasibility

Thank you Vaagmiji for steering the course!

hi

ur doubt abt iyer/iyengar.....my doubt abt iyer's subsect naattamai...MAY BE VADAMA IS MORE SUPERMOST EGOISTIC IN NATURE...

FIT FOR NATTAMAI...born to lead...how abt this...

Of course not. Why do you think most youngsters abstain from this site? They actually know how to fend for themselves and are quite successful in real life without feeling the need to build walls around them.

What selection?
When there is a born leader (who by the way is hijacking the site) there is no room for others. Of course all others are outsiders (out of state, out of country, out of TB community, out of his kingdom).
Renukaji you qualifies for multiple categories in addition you are a Woman, need I say more?

I actually think Renukaji will be awarded a special place of honor just like he has been accorded in this forum. :)

Dear Prasad ji,

When I read this last night I could not stop laughing..I was laughing so much...I have never laughed like that in a very long time...it was really funny indeed that I qualify for all categories!LOL

I laughed so much last night that my ribs have slight pain today...it was that much I laughed!

One generation will probably lead and the subsequent generation sells everything and vanish. This has been happening in a few cases already.

Dear RR ji,

Prasad Ji..didnt mean that I qualify to be Nattamai..what he meant is I fit into the category of out of state, out of country, out of TB community, out of his kingdom and also the fact that I am a woman..that means I am totally out of the picture .

OMG! RR ji..Natamais do not wear upper cloth! Ha Ha Ha

My understanding of "nattamai" is restricted only as a village leader or henchman, who perhaps uses force to impose his will on others.

Why does this "nattamai" thing keeps cropping up again and again? What am I missing?
