There is an unwritten rule of double standards when it comes to Indian males from all over the world.

They only expect their same race spouse to be a perfect 10 in all expects but the same rules are not applied to a spouse of a different race.
You are right..some are even slaves to their inlaws but if they had married an Indian girl they wont tolerate her parents!LOL

There is one Indian guy who lives near my mum house..he keeps praising his sloppy looking non Indian wife who always looks like a mess(even though she has maid at home)..he keeps saying that she is a natural person (as if the rest of us are genetically modified!LOL) and his mother too keeps praising her.

I was thinking if only it was an Indian DIL who dressed like a sloppy mess surely the MIL would not be singing praises of her!LOL

So you see all rules and regulations only apply for us Indian females.

If it was Indian inlaws the husband would have told his wife: "what do your parents think?Am I am their slave or what? tell them to go to hell and get a worker to paint their house!"

But if it was a non Indian inlaws the husband would have told his non Indian wife "Your family is like my family..your father is like my father..after all what is painting a house..let me paint even their neighbour's house..I will gladly be at your families service"

I have a theory on this . All TB boys are natural slaves. It is not race specific.It is only a question of degree .There are more in awe of their white wives because of our colonial past and painting the house is a small thing
TB girls are born to rule .they do not bother about the colour of the spouse .I had one relation working in a very low position in us embassy in delhi who hooked a white peace corps fellow from an affluent family in US and setting terms for going to us and settling with him there . she yielded after a lot of persuasion by husband and her family who did not want her here as they had to think of other girls in the family to be conventionally married

When doing gruhapravesam one of my relations married to a christian did not know what to do with christ photo at homam . It was on a side wall in the hall where there was homam with hindu gods on another wall.. his wife was in traditional hindu madisar with thaali and sindhoor
The photo of christ mysteriously vanished for a few hours until the homam was over . His wife was very upset with this disappearance . She found it later nicely hanging in her bedroom instead of the hall .
this is adjustment in mixed marriage .
I do not know if he was beaten up by her for this act.lol

I wont be surprised to hear that Yoga, Ayurveda and Siddha and even Hinduism were also invented by Westerners.

You forgot their biggest invention - making us believe that we are inferior.

Sure yoga was invented by Indians, pilates by westerners. So? Ayurveda vs modern medicine, the effectiveness is proved just by usage. Which is more popular right in India, the birthplace of Ayurveda? If you can get by only using Ayurveda hats off to you and your physique. What's so special about Hinduism as compared to Zoroastrianism, and the ancient Greek, Roman and Celtic religions? It is all nature worship

We do not have to feel inferior. At the same time we cannot ignore modern science and history. We have to leverage the findings of the Western world and jump ahead. That is how Indians have won Nobel prizes.

We have to be able to distinguish between advances in science and tech and the use some people make of them. The West is not just Facebook and Hollywood. That is just the marketing arm.

That said I do agree with you about youngsters obsession with mobile phones and social media.

I agree that the west has made great contributions to modern science that has risen the comforts of people manifold. But it is like saying I made a child happy by giving him chocolates. Of course in moderation it is ok. But if people get obsessed with science and technology I think their ability for finer feelings will slowly vanish. You then become obsessed with what is external than focussing on inner improvement. I am sure even the west does not realize this truth and assumes that it is natural for one to fall for temptations and that the human mind is inherently imperfect. This is where the stellar contributions of Indian philosophy stand out emphasising that one can and should strive for inner improvement and not be obsessed with the external things.

I agree it is impossible to cut oneself off the external world but one has to be in control of self and not be carried away by what science and technology can offer.

This thread seems to go in the direction of false choices. Except in the minds of few less informed people there are really no issues of East vs West.

Mature people in India and elsewhere appreciate the best of what people in the West have offered to the world while acknowledging the issues of 'body oriented' culture that seem to have originated in the west and has taken over the world (with many Indians aping the West in these areas with vengeance)

Mature people in India and in the West also appreciate the great contributions to the meta-science areas from India and have become ardent followers for self growth while recognizing that much of India including those 'educated' people in India are clueless about the teaching of ancient Rishis and are buried in sea of corruption.

The best of what human beings have to offer to the betterment of society comes from all countries in variety of means. The worst lifestyles that one can lead is also found in all countries.

Unchecked capitalism has produced disastrous result for the world. Unchecked corruption has turned Karma Bhoomi (India) into Adharma Bhoomi.

HBO has a special show called VICE which does investigative reports across the world. This week they showed a piece investigating the rape crisis in India and the corrupt cops in many of the states of India.

There is no need for anyone in India to talk with a 'holier than thou' attitude towards the western people or make ignorant and spiteful remarks about anyone including the NRI people living in other parts of the world. Those only reveal the narrow minded and corrupt nature of environment that they live in

Indians abroad have lost the plot . reducing it to a comparison of unchecked captalism vs corruption

India has changed in last 25 years with manmohanamics and opening out . the oppertinites for high incomes and consumer spending have taken india to a very high plane . indians need not be refugees in the west for a living . many would die to return to india to enjoy the goodies here , If one goes to NRI forums ,one can see the trend of many NRIs trying to return or buying property for future .
those who went abroad many years back have lost the plot and are justifying their actions to prove to themselves they are right .
the narrow minded indians in india are having the last laugh enjoying the benifits of both socialist and capitalist world in mixed economy .
black economy gets us the goods of latest technology at very competitive rates . we get quality education with high paying jobs .we get flats in high rises which have luxuries not imaginable . we get the consumer eletronics and cars of latest makes. we also get TB matches which NRI are finding hard to get.
we have right to our attitudes . we are indians in india . Others from west have to come to us with their goods and services and their broad mindedness for our favours . hamara bharat mahan.

I don't understand what sort of body oriented culture.First of all my idea is not critisize west.I also want to make the best of both culture. That does not mean that we should not look into the root cause of the problem. When you diagnose tumor we look into the root cause..Like that i looked into. I HAVE SEVERAL TIMES TOLD THAT WEST ARE GOOD ADMINISTRATORS AND EXECUTIVES.

Mature people in India and in the West also appreciate the great contributions to the meta-science areas from India and have become ardent followers for self growth while recognizing that much of India including those 'educated' people in India are clueless about the teaching of ancient Rishis and are buried in sea of corruption.

This is not armchair criticism but an analysis...just like in every society there are natural divisions.therefore everyone should do according to their GUNA, their karma. But now we are leading a very unnatural life.GITA SUGGESTS THAT EVERY ONE SHOULD EVOLVE ACCORDING TO THEIR NATURAL TENDENCIES. EVEN FOR PREACHING MOKSHA OR EVEN FOR PREACHING ABOUT BRHAMAN OR HIGHER CONCEPTS IT IS CLEARLY TOLD THAT IT SHOULD BE PREACHED TO ONLY WHO DESERVES IT.
