Indesent Dressing by Girls

In US i see young and old wearing a very small short/ and bra running on the roads, this a decent dress here.

Dear PJ sir,

That is not a bra...it is a sports attire that most people here wear at gyms.

Here those types of attires are worn during marathons and its not considered indecent when worn during a marathon.

BTW sir...no one wears a swimsuit when not at a beach or at a swimming pool.

I have been always told that Bangalore is a modern city and girl dress modern/"sexy" but whenever I go there all I see is girls dress in jeans and T shirt or some Kurti tops with jeans etc which is considered modern or some sleeveless tops with pants/skirt.

Every other married women is in a Salwar Kameez or saree.

Hardly anyone wears shorts too.

The fashion sense is just Ok and not figure hugging or with skin show.

No one really exposes anything if you ask me...but yet rapes occur in India.

Boys harass girls in crowded buses Trains etc and when they see a scantly dressed girl

Dear PJ sir,

I disagree...there is no difference.

Once I was travelling from Blore to go to Whitefield by bus to go see Sathya Sai Baba..and I was wearing a salwar kameez with a duppata drapped over my head.

Still one guy at the bus station started singing some Hindi love song for me and started telling me how beautiful I looked.

Dear PJ sir...so what say you???

I was covered head to toe not even my head exposed.

Do you still believe that type of Dress is ok in Chennai roads or in any village road.

So when it comes to respecting women..education does not count...the simple fisherman saw girls dressed in 3/4 pants and T shirt as his sisters but our own college professors think as long a person is an NRI or Foreign citizen..she is of no good character.

An American friend of mine who is in her early 50s came to Chennai and I booked a room for her in decent Hotel at the heart of the City and told her to wait in the lobby the next day for me to come and meet her . She said within a span of an hour or so many men who were staying in the hotel ( all seem to be well educated and well dressed in Coat / Ties etc ) were behaving to her as though she was a call girl waiting for customers . She said one particular man who claimed to be a very senior executive of a Blue Chip Company and also an MBA from IIM literally was forcing her to come to his "Suite" up and she how wonderful his "Suite" is . This all happened when she was very decently dressed ( I had already given her instructions to cover herself up properly when she is in India ) and was silently reading a book in the lobby .
She was very shocked and said why does everyone have to believe that a single women staying in a hotel has to be a slutty women even when she is decently dressed .
Foreigners / NRI women who travel single are subject to lot of direct / indirect sexual harrassment when they come to India . I am not telling that all Foreign / NRI women are saints but branding each and everyone of them as sluts just because they travel alone is not good .

Dear PJ sir,

I dont know Chennai as well..but I am sure there must be some areas with gated community posh area where outsiders are not allowed and people are free to jog wearing shorts and sports attire.

Out here also in Msia..we dress according to the location...where I stay its ok to wear shorts/sports top on road for jogging.

But in some rural areas it might not be suitable.

BTW I know a few friends of mine from Chennai who do wear shorts when they go to a few selected areas.

if you had read my op carefully, i have already mentioned there, even otherwise girls are raped!!

Wearing indecent and vulgar dress only means the chances of physical harassment is more. This is the point i wish to make.

Indian Cities are different, Bangalore is different, but not all places in Bangalore; same is the case with any other Indian City.

Most girls are physically harassed in Crowded Buses, Trains in India, it is sort of raping!! These Girls wear perfect dresses
but mentality of some evil men is always ugly.

Dear Sir,

I agree with what you wrote but the take home message for the day is "Saint or Slut...if a man wants to make contact with a woman he better have her CONSENT"

aped!!

Dear PJ sir,

Disagree again and again.

Its not the dressing of a girl...it is just the nature of the guy...but the average Indian male thinks it is manly like 'aan singham' to disturb a girl.

You can even see in Tamil movie where a Behenji types will give lecture to girls that a man will be a man so its up to us to dress covered.

You see...so all these just gives the green signal for males to misbehave.

Even a lion waits for consent from the lioness.

An admiring glance is a lot different from sexual harassment.

Agreed Renukaji and also would like to add that when a women says NO they just have to leave her alone and respect her feelings but my question is why do many men ( especially in India ) believe that a women ( Foreigner / NRI ) traveling alone has to be a cheap women .
Before the Delhi Nirbhaya rape case could die down we saw one foreigner jumped out of her window in a Hotel in Agra to escape the molestation from the Hotel Owner and in the process had her leg injured .
I was in Rishikesh last month and this time there was more than 25% drop in foreign / NRI tourists especially women in North India due to the Nirbhaya incident and before it could die down this Agra incident reignited the issue . I have now many of my foreign female friends requesting me to only recommend those drivers / hotels where they would be absolutely safe from harassment .
I feel the tourism department has to educate people not to harass any foreigner / NRI especially if she is a women traveling alone . They need not treat them as sisters but they should at least respect their individuality and treatment them as human beings . A mindset change is needed and for which people have to be made aware and educated on the same right from school /college and I hope even Tamil / Hindi Movies can also take up this issue and educate people on the same like they do so for Polio /AIDS etc .

Whoever is Mr.MCP Muhammad Ali, please ask him to make men wear burkhas and stay at home since they are troubled with clothes and their hormones, not the females.

1) Actual verse (on covering up):
O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not annoyed..." (Qur'an 33:59)

What it should be:
O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to ask men to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among women). That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not annoyed..." (Qur'an 33:59)

2) Actual verse (on hijab):
"Say to the believing man that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them; and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; and that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands..." (Qur'an 24:30-31)

What it should be:
"Say to the believing man that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them; and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; and that they should not display their beauty and well built body except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their wives..." (Qur'an 24:30-31)

3) Actual verse:
And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof, that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, fathers, husbands' fathers, sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women or the slaves whom their right hand possess or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! Turn ye all together towards Allah(S.W.T) that ye may attain Bliss (Surah 24:31)

What it should be:
And say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and be modest in behavior; that they should not display their beauty and manliness except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof, that they should cover their bodies and not display their beauty except to their wife, mother, wive's mother, daughters, or their sisters' daughters, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not stomp their feet or be loud in order to draw attention to their authority. And O ye Believers! Turn ye all together towards Allah(S.W.T) that ye may attain Bliss (Surah 24:31)

Dear Sri mkrishna100 Ji,

I am not surprised.

Look at this Forum. How many members here actually believe that the west is decadent, everyone will sleep with anyone? They don't understand the western culture, and more importantly they do not understand nor do they want to acknowledge their own culture's rot.

It is sad when 'educated' folks behave like this. And we have the temerity to claim that our behavior is induced by the western culture! It is just sad.

Regards,
KRS

Renu (post #47) and MKrishna (post # 52),

Unfortunately, many Indian men raised in India lack scruples, morals, and are utter cheapios when it comes to treating females well. Its a combination of male ego (every man thinks he is a king), archaic mindset which favored males (as they could do anything to females back until recent time), and idiotic mothers who raise sons in a patriarchal setup with scant respect for their own species. Methinks, India needs many more laws to tighten up screw loose males.

Dear Sir,

Not only men but even some women in India think the same and these women back up the men by saying bad things about rape victims.

We Indians wherever we are need to admit that most of us come with a "Holier than Thou" attitude and anything so called "unholy" needs to be treated without respect.

First and foremost the government should get rid of the word Eve Teasing...that is too light a word...it does not carry the weight of sexual harassment.

Eve teasing sounds too Kosher!

Dear Palindrome,

This is exactly what my mother told me.

We parents need to educate our children right.

Last week I asked my son some basic questions and I asked him 'what are your duties as a Hindu"

He said :

1)Do not eat beef

2)Speak the Truth and Do Good.

3)Don't rape women!

He has been following all the rape cases of India closely and felt very bad for the victims.

So that is why he said "a duty of a Hindu is not to rape women"

3)Don't rape women!

In the entire Nirbhaya episode there was only one Senior Police officer was was talking about how the mindset of Indians need to change and he said this must be brought about right from childhood at homes , in schools , collages etc . He said when a women says No , learn to respect that and move ahead without forcing your way or labeling her as slut / cheap women . He says many Indian men cant take a No from a women and either go about harassing her more till she approves ( this is more common in Indian Movies the hero somehow trying to winover the women ) or throw acid on her face or spread wrong information about her on the net etc .This attitude must change and it must be taught from childhood and media ,schools , movies etc must also play a constructive role in this mind set change .

Sweden is a country of freedom, wealth, social security and kushy life. It is under the grip of riots for the past one week. Why are these people, or a section of the people, unhappy, and indulge in wanton destruction?

Maharashtra government is mulling on an act that will ban mannequins from wearing lingerie. Male mannequins are exempted because no indecent attacks are expected.

The general Indian male mindset is that if a female is scantily dressed or wears skin-tight dresses showing her body as much as possible, she is deviant and hence must be of loose morals too, and easily available for sex. Our cinemas too have been sending such a message only in subtle forms. This will take a long time more to change.

I think it will be more suitable for India to accept this reality and follow the Saudi norms instead of the utopian idea of trying to change the mindset of its many crores of males by means of legislation, punishment, etc.

LOL!

Wait till the day women start attacking men too then lets see if guys will be asked to cover up fully and not go out late night.

That time too I am 100% sure..women will be blamed all over again and again.

I guess in India there is no way out...women will be blamed no matter what!

I remember reading before in some country I think it was Papua New Guinea (not 100% sure which country)...some tribals have an open day for all women (married or unmarried) to rape men.

The women will eat some yam root that has contraceptive effect and go out in groups on the open day and rape which ever man they find alone outside.

I guess we should invite some of these women over to India for some open day..and lets watch the guns run!

It is because many of us are leading a life away from dharma. There are hundreds of temple sculptures, erotic literature, and half clad men and women of all ages of all jatis were walking in the streets even two generations ago.

Change of mindset everybody demanding is the call to return to our old dharmic values.

It will be more suitable for India to accept women have freedom to wear what they please. It is better to realize clothing and morals do not really connect, since loose morals can come in tightly packed kaupeenam also.

Instead of trying to pack everyone back to stone age, better for crores of males to get out of that age; and wake up to this century. Legislation and punishment is a must, and required for a safer society. Assaulting a female, then blaming it on her clothes, is rubbing insult into injury.

India is a male dominated society, hence we still have stupid outdated laws which do not punish offending males. Strict punishments need to be created and enforced, to protect females.

Punishment like: 'Cut off the part that committed the crime!'

Dear RR ji,

This wont do any good...remember we have lots of stories to escape on technical grounds in our Puranas for example... "the eyes that saw can not speak and the tongue that can speak did not see"

So some male will come up with some excuse by saying that "the organ that committed the rape did not have a brain and the brain that can think did not commit the rape"!

Gouge the eyes out for visual violation and vocal cords/tongue for verbal violation and legs for following. perhaps knock out the teeth for smiling.

That is why sharad yadhav of janata dal objected to inclusion of 'following' and 'staring' from the list of punishable activities; how can one woo and win a girl if these two are forbidden, worse defined as criminal acts.
